The acquittal of four police officers who previously faced charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm is not sitting well with Treveno Marcelle, one of the three men who brought the officers before the court, following an incident that occurred in Lambeau. Mr. Marcelle spoke with TV6's Elizabeth Williams. She filed this report.

00:00 No justice was served at all.
00:02 And to hear one of them say, you know, it's the best justice system ever, is a real failure.
00:10 You know, and the one especially that actually did the most damage to everybody,
00:15 you could be talking about justice.
00:18 If I know justice was served, I'd like the DPP to look into that matter.
00:25 Mr. Marcel told TV6 News that he was informed of the not guilty verdict in the case via text.
00:32 The fact to me is that assault was done.
00:35 We was found not guilty, there was no trial.
00:38 Some assault was done, some injustice was done.
00:41 And that didn't suit me at all.
00:44 Mr. Marcel recalled the incident where he said he was ambushed by police officers in a white vehicle.
00:51 He told TV6 that the incident started at Sandy Hill Trace in Lambeau.
00:57 When they did jump out, I noticed it was police now.
01:00 And then they decided to put me in the trunk of the vehicle with some lashes.
01:04 Arrested me, well, placed a handcuff on me and then pursued along more into the village
01:11 where they saw a bunch of people coming to my rescue because like the barman tell them,
01:16 they're beating me up down the road.
01:18 So everybody ran to the situation and they took out two out of the people that ran to the rescue.
01:24 They took out two from there and let them join me in the trunk and drive to Orange Hill with us and beat us.
01:30 Threw one off our cliff, K2 in court.
01:33 And this is the outcome of that today.
01:35 Today, despite the not guilty result in the matter, in favour of the officers,
01:40 Mr. Marcel is today calling for justice and has since written to the DPP, Roger Gaspard, on the matter
01:47 in a letter dated November 16, 2023.
01:51 In this matter, I had already written to the DPP in due respect to this matter
01:56 because it didn't settle on my chest for after 20 years.
01:59 You know, but at the same time, they find them guilty if this did happen.
02:04 I feel I had more fair play and also if Juhi was in the matter, I feel this would have some kind of fair play in it.
02:10 But meanwhile, what happened is a judge alone did the trial.
02:16 I see that, you know, they leave it to one corner where I do find that this needs a public thing
02:22 because it's the citizens and it's the people cheering the Africans.
02:25 So you need everybody's mind on this one here.
02:28 You don't need one person's mind on this.
02:30 And I felt they left it carelessly.
02:33 Last Wednesday, four Tobago police officers, Andy Cunningham, Dave Chambers, Kurt Beard and Imran Mohammed
02:41 were acquitted of assault occasioning actual bodily harm when they reappeared before the Scarborough High Court
02:48 before Justice Ransomrare Hines.
02:51 Two of the four officers spoke with TV6 News and expressed relief in the case.
02:57 The charges against the officers arose following the execution of a search warrant in the Lambeau area.
03:04 Treveno Marcel, Zaki Lord, who is now deceased,
03:08 and Casey Bruce, who is today incarcerated for murder, brought the complaint against the officers.
03:14 Elizabeth Williams, TV6 News.
03:16 news.
