00:00 Uh, what's your biggest now that you've had an opportunity to
00:03 Assess where you are and what the assets are. What's the biggest challenge that lies ahead for the usga?
00:09 um
00:12 I think there's you know, it's you know me. It's hard for me to pick one thing. I mean there's um
00:16 There's three things and they range from what I consult call internal problems to external problems
00:22 Uh, we're 127 year old brand rick
00:24 And every time I sit in a plane and I sit down with these letters on some because oh usga. I love the game
00:29 I live in such and such I play and then somewhere in the fight. They look at me and go
00:32 What is it you guys do again? Yeah, and they know the usga
00:36 They probably could tell you what the letters stand for but they really don't know the usj's role in the game
00:41 so one of the things i've really set out on the quest for and that's probably because I come from a marketing background is
00:45 It's time to tell people our role in the game and just for nothing else
00:49 So people so i've changed these letters on the inside. So on the inside it stands for unify showcase
00:55 Govern in advance. We spend about 12 million dollars a year unifying the game your gin handicap app world handicapping system course ratings
01:02 When you go play and and especially in your case when you and I come to play
01:06 The only way you and I can have a competitive game
01:08 Is that I give you a ton of strokes and how do we figure out how many strokes?
01:10 We pull out our gin app and you have a handicap and then we figure out where do you get those strokes on each hole?
01:15 Because we've course rated that course all around the world by the way
01:18 You and I could fly to thailand which never gonna happen
01:21 But if we did and went to thailand and walked on the first tee and played with an 18 year old girl and a 26 year
01:26 Old boy, we could have a real game. I mean try that in baseball or basketball or volleyball not not possible
01:32 So we unify the sport through our investments in these unification tools. We showcase the sport 15
01:38 national championships a year old young male female team individual
01:44 Professional amateur and now starting in july this year players with disabilities as well with the u.s
01:50 Adaptive open 15 ways for you to strive and have a dream to reach the highest level in the game
01:56 No matter where you are in the game over 50 under 15 male female
01:59 Team and amateur so that's showcase. We govern the game. Everybody seems to know that we're the rule makers together with the rna
02:06 Again, simply to make sure that wherever you play the game whenever you play the game
02:10 We're all playing by the same common set of rules amateur status pro status
02:15 The last one is the a rick and that's advanced the game if I was being honest and and would critique my own organization
02:22 I think the thing that the usga has um has tended to back away from is
02:26 Advancing the game for the next 50 and 70 years. I think they um, they tend to do that through writing checks pj of america
02:34 Launches a new initiative. We're the largest check writer if augusta starts drive chip and putt
02:38 We'll write the largest check if pj tour starts
02:41 First team we'll write the biggest check lpj girls golf. That's sort of been our answers. Yes, of course
02:46 We're supportive. We write big checks
02:48 But what you're going to see over the next few years is the usga launching what I call some bbls big
02:53 Bold leadership initiatives things that we're going to be into for decades and we're going to be into for tens of millions of dollars
02:59 That are fundamental to making sure this game is better in 50 years
03:02 That it is today and I think that will be the the difference in the short term and for me personally on the inside
03:08 That's my that's my top priority
