00:00I just want to start with Ty Simpson quickly.
00:03There is a market now on which team will draft Ty Simpson.
00:07And the New York Jets are underneath plus 200 here as a favorite at plus 185.
00:13What's even more interesting is not a soul alive thinks that Ty Simpson will be drafted at second overall.
00:21So I guess that means the Jets would be drafting Simpson with their second pick available in round number one
00:30at 16.
00:33Or maybe they're going to draft Tim Simpson at the top of the second round.
00:39Where are you at on Ty Simpson right now, Joe?
00:43I'm going to say this right now.
00:44I don't think he's a number first round draft pick.
00:47And I know the scouts love him.
00:49I just haven't seen that throughout the regular season.
00:52He started off very fast for Alabama.
00:55And then down the stretch in more difficult games, Ty Simpson struggled.
01:01Does that mean he can't be there potentially or two or three years?
01:05It's possible.
01:06But I would much rather take other, you know, raw quarterbacks in this draft and roll the dice with them.
01:12And you know that I was high on Talon Green.
01:15I would much rather take Talon Green that surprised everybody at the combine, and I said it before anybody else,
01:22than I would Ty Simpson.
01:24Is Ty Simpson an elite quarterback?
01:26What we've seen even with Drake May coming out of North Carolina?
01:31No, he's a one-year wonder and lost four games for Alabama and had a pathetic effort against Indiana in
01:39the college football playoff.
01:40So what has Ty Simpson showed everybody that, again, warrants a top-10 selection?
01:46I just don't see it.
01:48He's a good pocket passer when you give him time.
01:51I still think he's raw.
01:52Does he have an elite arm strength?
01:54It's good.
01:55I don't think it's elite like Caleb or Jaden, and I wouldn't waste a first-round draft selection on them.
02:02That being said, I see them, if they are going to waste it, I think it would be a team
02:08like Arizona.
02:09I really do.
02:11They'll move on from Kyler and start fresh.
02:15So this is kind of the issue that I have a little bit with Simpson, where let's use the Jets,
02:23for example.
02:25Drafting Ty Simpson at 16, the only justification for that is basically you can.
02:34If you take a quarterback in the first round, that means you think they're going to be your franchise quarterback.
02:40If you are right, when we do a redraft, right, we love doing redrafts, so when we redraft in 10
02:47years,
02:49Ty Simpson will go second where you have the pick.
02:53You either have the quarterback or you don't.
02:56Again, you have to be able to read the room, and if you can wait, that is great.
03:01But also, if you think this guy could be a franchise-level quarterback, you have to move up and go
03:07and get him.
03:07You just sitting there with your hands behind your back is a bit crazy.
03:13This idea that there is a quarterback who's not worth a top-five pick but is worth a 15th or
03:19an 18th or a 23rd overall pick,
03:21that's not reality.
03:23That might be where a guy goes, but either you are going to have gotten it violently right or violently
03:28wrong.
03:30And the Simpson piece of it, Joe, feels like we're in the heart of draft season.
03:37Last year, Shador Sanders was thought to go top 10.
03:40Right.
03:41As we sit here right now, I'm curious who becomes the first book to offer up total quarterbacks drafted in
03:49round one,
03:50and I want to know what the price is for under the one and a half.
03:53I think there will be one and a half.
03:55I want to know what the price is because I think it's very on the board that it's Mendoza, and
04:00that's it.
04:01Yeah, I mean, Kev, it's possible, but we've seen these quarterback-needy teams reach up and grab a guy, right?
04:09I mean, it's always possible, but I'm with you.
04:12Look, I think when we look at the overall talent, the only quarterback that, to me, is worthy of a
04:19first-round selection at this point in time,
04:23combine and the regular season and the playoffs, it would be Fernando Mendoza.
04:28And again, if you're asking me, and maybe you and I differ on this,
04:32but if you're asking me, is Mendoza as good in your opinion or has as much upside as Jaden and
04:40Caleb did just a couple of seasons ago,
04:43my answer to you is no.
04:44I think Fernando Mendoza is clearly the best quarterback in this draft class,
04:50but it's a very weak quarterback draft class.
04:53And the only other quarterback that I would be willing to bank on as taken as a potential franchise guy,
05:02and this is going to sound crazy, but it would be Taylon Green.
05:05I'm sorry.
05:06Knowing his elusiveness and athleticism and knowing that he was the best player,
05:12him and Mike Washington on a terrible defense,
05:15I would take a shot on him in the later rounds than any other quarterback outside of Mendoza.
