Hello. For most, it's going to be a fine Tuesday. However, there is a storm on the way. It's
00:05
going to turn wet and windy from the middle of this week, thanks to Storm Babbit. It's
00:10
working its way up from the southwest, picking up moisture as it goes. We named the storm
00:15
on Monday morning. It's the rainfall that is the greatest cause for concern because
00:19
it's going to be quite slow moving. So some places could get stuck under these weather
00:23
fronts, bringing persistent and heavy rainfall through Wednesday, Thursday and indeed into
00:30
the weekend. So we do have a number of Met Office yellow warnings in place. Check out
00:34
our app and our website for more details on those. Before it arrives, however, as I said,
00:40
many places set fair through Monday night and into Tuesday, thanks to an area of high
00:45
pressure that will bring largely clear skies across the northern half of the UK. There'll
00:49
be a few showers continuing over the Northern Isles, cloud thickening in the southwest and
00:54
the breeze strengthening here through the night as well. But light winds and clear skies
00:59
across southern Scotland, Northern Ireland and Northern England. Tinge of blue on the
01:03
chart there. There could well again be some pockets of frost on Tuesday morning. Not so
01:08
though in the southwest, because the breeze strengthening quite a blustery start for southwest
01:13
England and Wales on Tuesday. Some very strong gusts, particularly to the west and north
01:19
of the hills. The breeze will strengthen across Northern Ireland, the cloud increasing here.
01:23
One or two showers, perhaps, graze in the east coast of England and still over the Northern
01:27
Isles and the cloud thick enough for some showery rain at times for Somerset, Devon,
01:32
Cornwall, maybe Pembrokeshire. But for most places, it is going to be another dry and
01:36
a bright day on Tuesday. Temperatures could be a little higher in most places compared
01:40
to Monday, but it'll probably feel just as chilly, particularly with the winds across
01:45
the south and across Wales. As I said, it could get quite gusty for a time through the
01:50
day. The wet weather will move northwards towards Northern Ireland. So we'll see our
01:54
first batch of rain coming in here on Tuesday evening. That'll spread into western Scotland
01:59
on Wednesday. And then we start to see further pulses of rain coming up from the south for
02:04
Wednesday. And these are going to turn quite heavy in places, parts of Wales and southwest
02:09
England, but particularly later on across parts of Northern Ireland. The rain could
02:13
start to build up here. Notice, though, for much of eastern Scotland, eastern England
02:18
still on Wednesday, it is mostly dry. And that wind is continuing to strengthen, bringing
02:23
maybe some large waves on some north sea coast, particularly across northeast Scotland and
02:28
still bringing a chill here as well. Temperatures in the south ticking up a little higher, 16,
02:33
17, but it will be feeling all that warm, of course, with the wind and the rain. This
02:39
heavier zone of rain tracking towards Northern Ireland. That is the first pinch point we're
02:44
concerned about from Storm Barbette as it works its way northwards. We have a Met Office
02:48
warning in place for Northern Ireland for Wednesday and into Thursday, but many other
02:52
warnings in place from Thursday onwards because of that storm system bringing some very heavy
02:58
and persistent rain, but also some strong winds as well. So do check out our app and
03:03
our website for the details of those weather warnings. And do please stay up to date with
03:08
the latest from the Met Office by following us across social media.
