00:12I really hope Batman's better at this. I'm having a hard time keeping track of all his
00:15boy wonders. Here's a look at the brand new McFarlane toys, DC Direct, McFarlane Red
00:20Platinum Edition, Robin. Acrobat Dick Grayson was the youngest member of his parents' death-defying
00:30circus act. But after their cold-blooded murder, Dick vowed revenge. Seeing a genuine piece of
00:35himself in the boy, Batman took him in and gave him a better outlet for his anger. Becoming Batman's
00:40protege, Robin is an expert fighter and astounding acrobat, and with the toughest example in the world
00:45to live up to. But the boy wonders true strength may lie not being Batman and providing a beacon
00:51of hope and family throughout the Dark Knight's grim crusade. Grayson may be an expert acrobat.
00:57Luckily, though, for the guy behind the camera, I didn't have to jump through any hoops to find
01:00one for myself. The DC Direct McFarlane Red Platinum Edition, Robin, should be available right now,
01:05either in stores or online. Happened, though, to find this one on the Facebook Marketplace,
01:10grabbed this from Popeye the Toy Man. For how tall Robin's going to be, tape measure's telling me
01:14he's only about five inches in height. That's also going to be working out to be figured. That's
01:20about twelve and a half centimeters tall. Now, the main reason why I got this Robin was so that he
01:25could be displayed with the Silver Age Batman, and for why not? Here's also what he looks like
01:29with Ace the Bat-Hound. He's a good-sized Robin if you want your Robin to be small. I had
01:34thought,
01:35though, that he was going to be using a lot of the mold from the previous classics Robin, but it
01:40does
01:40seem like it's maybe only just the legs and possibly even the arms. He's got now a smaller head,
01:44he's got a brand new tooled torso, and now he has a cloth cape. Some other sized Robins of various
01:50sizes. Here's what the figure looks like with the Damian Wayne Robin, and here's also a figure it
01:53looks like with too tall of a Robin, but here's what he looks like with him as well. Not that
01:57you
01:57may have needed this nudge, but the DC Direct Robin does come in clear with a reproduction of Batman
02:01issue number one. Don't hawk this on eBay pretending to be the OG. People would probably recognize right
02:07away that that's a more modern DC logo, and that that's not really on the original issue. What I don't
02:13think was also in the original issue was more than one story, and yet, though, this actually
02:17collects various different stories of Batman and the Boy Wonder. It does also collect major Bitsby
02:24and bots, and further from that, way past some Batman stories, we also have an appearance of
02:31Ginger Snap. Finally, Ginger Snap is making an appearance. I don't know who Ginger Snap is. But I love
02:37the fact that we get ourselves an issue, and it's actually an issue where it's the, well, it may not
02:42be the full story inside, but at least, though, it's some old dated comic pages of, again, the Cape
02:48Crusader. So that's really, really cool. I'm going to move that off to the side. What's also cool, too,
02:53is that Robin comes in clear with a trading card that happens to have that same image.
02:57Now, on the back of the card, for those that didn't already know this, his real name is Dick Grayson.
03:01You may have also known already that the little paragraph read, might even be more than just one,
03:07was one that I actually read at the beginning of this review, so I saved you a little bit of
03:10time.
03:11See what I do for you guys? No, no, no, no. No, it's the least I could do. The least
03:17they could
03:17also do, too, is that Robin does also come in clear with a display stand. I'm not going to eat
03:21up a whole
03:21lot of time talking about the fact it's still the same DC logo stand that we always get with these
03:25DC
03:25figures, whether it be DC Direct or whether it be under the DC Universe banner. Let's move it off to
03:31the side.
03:31The figure of Robin does also come in clear with both a grapple line, and on the end of that,
03:36he comes with a batarang. How cool is that? Now, there's really no place to store this on the
03:42figure's body, but you'll be happy to know at least that Robin coming out of the packaging
03:46already does have two gripping hands. I find always that it's a hard thing to try to get the
03:51batarangs into their hands without actually dropping them on the floor. Knock on wood. Come on in.
03:57I haven't yet lost this. Of course, now that I've said that, watch that end up happening.
04:02Luckily, though, the figure does also come in clear with, again, some swappable hands as well,
04:05so in case you didn't necessarily want the figure to be holding anything, just get him to stand here
04:10for a second. It's got tiny, tiny little feet. Stay there, Robin. Stay there. We've still got to
04:15have a whole lot of look. You know what? This display stands there for a reason. I'm not going to
04:20be
04:20wasting my time. I'm not certainly going to be wasting your time. Let's just get the figure to stand
04:24on his stand while we look at the remaining accessories. Let's just say for all intents and
04:28purposes, your boy, Wonder, likes to put up his dukes instead. Well, you can swap out those hands
04:32for a pair of closed fists instead. Just turning this around so you guys can see. Yeah. Two closed
04:38fists. The figure does also come in clear with some gestured hands. Those are always good. I always
04:43like those. Probably going to be swapping one of those out in a second. Figure also comes in clear
04:47with a pointing hand or yes, boss. Maybe he's pointing up to the sky and he also comes in clear
04:52with a thumbs up hand too. To swap the hands out, we'll get him back off his display stand now.
04:58Maybe
04:58what we'll also do too is remove the battering. Just don't want to get that lost. If you did want
05:02to swap out the hand though, it's not that hard to do. Just hold onto the forearm. Wiggle back and
05:06forth. This takes so much more longer than I was hoping it was. And there we go. Take the new
05:12hand
05:12that we want to use. Now, I always end up saying this when we swap out these hands. Does this
05:18hand look
05:19way too big? Does it? It does. Doesn't it, right? It looks like it's probably a hand from another
05:25figure because it was really only just these hands when I started to swap them out. I thought to
05:30myself, like when I was looking at that, that's Robin's normal hand. The one that he comes out of
05:34the packaging with. That's the new hand. Do they not seem like it's probably a hand from another
05:39different figure? Almost like a Green Lantern hand? I think it's way too big for all intents and
05:45purposes. It may have also been designed specifically for this Robin, but I feel like
05:49maybe that's too big of a hand. We'll leave the big hand there for right now. It's like the man
05:53hands from that episode of Seinfeld getting a little closer look at Robin. I like overall the figure and
05:59I find the one thing about this figure is I find like it's probably going to be a shadow casted
06:03on
06:03him because at the same time this guy got released, there was also again that DC Classics Robin. The one
06:09that I look at, I think right away of like, was it Death in the Family? Death in the Family
06:13Robin. So again, like I think a lot of people are probably going to be maybe beelining it past this
06:18Robin altogether in favor of that larger Robin, but some things could be said positively about this
06:23figure. First of all, if you really want a small sized Robin, there's very few on the market right
06:28now. The one that I had had most of the time on my display shelf was really this guy right
06:33here.
06:33Now there has been, I feel positive changes made. First of all, I feel like this head was way too
06:38big.
06:39Just get the camera to focus here for a second. Too big of maybe of a head. The body
06:43wasn't so bad, but like looking proportionally at the way that the head is to the sizing of the
06:48rest of the body, I feel like probably this is just a better Robin for that. Now there are a
06:53few
06:53things though that they have done differently. Like for starters, the original Robin here would have
06:57had a plastic cape. It also would have covered across the top of his shoulder where his collar
07:01would have been. He had also a larger R and his tunic was a little bit longer as well. This
07:06Robin
07:07shortens all of that. He gets a smaller R now. And instead of that plastic cape, he gets a fabric
07:12cape. I don't love this cape really. It's like a super powers kind of cape that they have where
07:18it's laminated kind of on the front. It also, by not having wires built sewn into the side of the
07:23cape, it doesn't have any flow to it. It just feels like it's a triangular fabric piece. Essentially,
07:29that really is what it is. Just attached on the figure's body right there on the top of the collar.
07:33It also is tucked in a way too that you can see there's a space between the color that's painted
07:38in yellow and then the cape that's yellow a little further down from that. I don't think it's
07:43necessarily a... Had it only really been that they added the seam, just sewn in the wire, then at least
07:49I feel you could probably have done a little bit more with the cape. I honestly would have probably
07:52liked to have the cape maybe a little bit more tapered off like this, but not having a wire,
07:57it's sort of just left to do what it's doing right now, but not a whole lot. For though the
08:02arms, it does almost does look like he's using the same arms, and I was trying to kind of match
08:07things up. A lot of times really what you can do is like look at wrinkles. So like right here,
08:13right around here, you can kind of really see that there's a wrinkle right there on the top of
08:17his sleeve. See that right there? And then he also has like a similar wrinkle right here. The length of
08:22the arms
08:23look like they're the same. Maybe possibly also the arms as well, like this part of the glove arm,
08:28I should say. Now to go back, and we were saying this earlier, I was saying this earlier, like the
08:32hand looked too large. It does in fact look like it is the same hand as this robin, but what
08:38throws
08:39things off though is because it's also a shorter robin and a smaller head is probably also why that
08:44hand looks as big as it does. The legs do seem like they're the same. I don't think though,
08:50like just lifting up his tunic here for a second, is it possibly even the same? I think it might
08:57be
08:57also the same trunks, just though that this one's a lighter green. This one's more of a darker green.
09:01Looks like it's the same legs, possibly also the same elf shoes. So it isn't from scratch. It
09:08borrowed some things like arms, the legs, a brand new head again, a brand new torso. That's something
09:13completely different as well. It's a good robin, especially again, if you want a robin this size,
09:19because again, a lot of times, like who really in their right mind is going to want this kind of,
09:23I guess it depends on really when you start to read the comics, like mid what, mid nineties or so
09:27when
09:27the robin run started. If you really want like a taller robin, I guess that would be the better one
09:31to go with. I honestly like my boy wonder to be a little bit smaller, especially to be displayed
09:36with Batman. He shouldn't really be the same size as Batman. He should be like half that size. I think
09:41this is a pretty good robin for that. Did we spend that much time really talking even about his face?
09:47I like the face. I don't know why I feel this also looks like a very young Sylvester Stallone.
09:54Maybe not. I don't know. That's a bit silly. The face on the mask looks good. I like that he
09:59also
09:59has like those half crescent moon. Again, well, not really an half crescent moon. That's a crescent moon
10:04shape for the eyes. The eyebrows look good too. And they've also nicely painted a little bit of blue
10:08in the hair as well. The only thing I would really say is just, I don't love the cape. The
10:13cape just
10:13needed to be a little bit better than what it was. For the figure's articulation though, DC Direct Red
10:18Platinum Edition Robin, that's going to be a whole lot to put in the title, does have a ball joint
10:22in
10:22the head. So it allows the head to rotate all the way around. The neck, because it also seems like
10:27there's probably a ball joint here at the base of the neck, actually has a lot more mobility than you
10:32think there would be. The top of the torso is more limited just because again, like this, all part,
10:37all this part of the tunic is wall of one piece. So it only really rotates there. Arms easily,
10:42rotate all the way around. Hinge them out. No problems there. Here's a bicep swivel. Is it a
10:47bicep swivel? It is a bicep swivel. Had to second guess myself for a second. Double hinge on the
10:52elbow. The hands, as large as they look. It doesn't look as bad really on the other Robin. It looks
10:58just
10:58more, it looks like man hands from the episode of Seinfeld. Hands rotate all the way around though.
11:03They hinge back and forth. Leg split out. No issues really there. Forward and back they go. Swivel at the
11:08top
11:08of the thigh they go. Double hinge on the knee. Ankle pivot up and down. Ankle rocker. And the
11:14figure, of course, like with the other one before, does have toe articulation too. It's a good figure.
11:19I mean, with having such small feet like this, it makes for a little harder of a figure to really
11:23stand. I guess if you get a wider stance, boy, it does just look like it broke his ankle. If
11:28you get
11:28a wider stance for Robin, you may not have as hard of a time getting him to stand. Bringing back
11:33in
11:33Silver Age Batman, bringing also in Bat-Hound, Bat-Hound Ace. Always seems to go where Batman
11:39goes. For a long time though, when I wanted a smaller Robin, this generally was the Robin that
11:45I went with. I mean, again, like took a lot of some of the, some of the molding at least
11:50from like the
11:50arms, the legs, I think like possibly also the trunks as well. New tunic, new head, new cloth cape.
11:58Good or bad? Cloth cape generally is a better way to go, but like with Batman, he needs to have
12:03a
12:03wire sewn into that because without that not being the case, the cape is always just going to look
12:08like a sail and that's not good at all. I find the one thing about this figure is that it
12:13came
12:14at the wrong time. Had this figure came out like months earlier, I think a lot of people probably
12:19would have had this one on their radar right away for Robin. The problem with it though, is it's
12:23coming out at around that same time that the DC classic Robin is coming out, which I know a lot
12:28of
12:28people really are wanting to get that Robin just for, again, if you want an 80s look to the character.
12:32I still will have plans to pick that one up as well because I have two very distinct ideas of
12:38where I want to put this Robin. That other Robin is going to go with like my 80s lineup of
12:42my DC
12:43figures. This Robin, however, is going to be paired very nicely with the cape crusader to the right of
12:48him right now. I think one benefit of this boy wonder is he's a little bit more budget friendly
12:52compared to what the DC silver age gold label version of Robin's going to be. This guy was, I think,
12:57like half the price. It could just be also that people were scooping up that other silver age Robin
13:02and then just jacking the price up, which a lot of times ended up happening with DC multiverse
13:06figures. They have scarcity to it when it comes to the availability. People then start to buy them
13:11up and then start jacking and listing the prices a lot higher than really what they should be.
13:15This Robin was quite affordable. I think I ended up paying like $30 or so for him. He comes with
13:21a lot
13:21of cool accessories too, not to mention as well, he comes with the reproduction of Batman issue number
13:25one with a few other things sprinkled in there inside as well. Having also a grapple line with a
13:30batarang, having also some swapped out hands, which I think while looking at those hands,
13:36thinking initially that maybe the hands were a little too large for the Robin, they were in fact
13:40with the previous Robin, but I think because that other figure did also have the larger head,
13:44I didn't notice it maybe as much as I noticed it with this figure here. The colors, I think,
13:49are darker. Certainly they are darker in the red and the green, and I think it works a little bit
13:53better for the color scheme for the character. I don't think though like the brighter green always really
13:57worked that well for Robin. This, I think just for a color standpoint, also looks a little bit better
14:02than the previous Robin. And also too, if you're one that generally likes to have your DC figures
14:06with cloth capes instead of plastic capes, this Robin does check that box off too. Unfortunately
14:11though, by checking off that box, there's a little kind of asterisk just below that. What's the asterisk
14:16say? What's that say? Oh, there's no wire sewn into, man, that is small, into the seam of the cape.
14:26Actually, there is no seam at all in this cape. Adding a wire could have really greatly improved
14:31upon this figure because then, you know, most people generally like to have their figures
14:34displayed where they can go in and start to move the capes around. Batman had that. Ace the Bat-Hound
14:40didn't have that. He didn't have a cape. But then why wouldn't Robin have had the same? I say that
14:45only
14:45because I want to have those two figures displayed together. And it certainly is going to stand out
14:48to me that Batman can have mobility in his cape and the Boy Wonder can't. If you guys, like I
14:54said,
14:54are interested to get this one for yourself, the Red Platinum Edition DC Direct Robin should be
14:58available either in stores, comic book stores, I think a lot of times are the best bet for you.
15:02You can also check online. You can also check the Facebook Marketplace. I seem to better with the
15:07last one. I favored with the last one. And I was able to get this on the Facebook Marketplace
15:11from Popeye the Toy Man. If you guys did enjoy this video, you can do, of course, the solid
15:15hit with a like. And if you guys also want to stalk me over on socials, you can find all
15:18those links
15:19down below in the video description. If you also need, man, I'm talking a lot. If you also need
15:25a fix for more content coming your way or not, there's going to be a, there's also going to be
15:29a spot for that. Yeah, it's right here. It's inside the videos.
