Join Kevin Richardson, Gabby and Bobcat on a lively walk through the wildlife sanctuary, where two lions reveal very different personalities. Curious, energetic Gabby explores, climbs and looks for mischief, while Bobcat follows scents, marks his territory and pauses to listen to the other lions. Along the way, Kevin explains why long walks support the lions’ physical and mental well-being, and shares observations about their behaviour, personalities and natural instincts. This relaxed wildlife encounter also offers a glimpse of the sanctuary’s dry landscape and the everyday care that goes into looking after these majestic cats. For viewers interested in lion behaviour, big cat enrichment, animal encounters and wildlife sanctuary life, this Lion Whisperer home-movie walk blends nature footage with personal commentary. Enjoy a close-up wildlife experience, a peaceful animal walk and an engaging look at Gabby and Bobcat in their environment.

00:00Oh you're loving that boy. Pooh looking good. So he's heard something hence that look. Look at those eyes.
00:15Gabby and Bobcat. Bobcat having fun. Gotta keep an eye on Gabby that she doesn't go chew tires.
00:23Uh uh Gabby. We'll just follow Bobcat. Oh yeah boy. All right morning everybody. We are driving in to the
00:37sanctuary and today we're going to be taking Bobcat and Gabby to a new enclosure and but before we do
00:42that I'm going to be taking them on a on a walk. Okay so arriving at Bobcat and Gabby's enclosure
00:49um and normally they come running up. Oh there they are. Here's my boy.
01:05So Bobcat. Look here my boy. Yes yeah yeah yeah. Look here. Look here. Look here. Look here.
01:13Yeah yeah yeah. And go. What? You cheeky Charlie. She's never going to load if you're there.
01:22She'll never load if you're there. No she won't.
01:28Okay. Yeah because you're naughty. Yeah.
02:00I've always felt um as as many of you know
02:03that it's so so important um for these animals to get out and and to to just you know sometimes
02:12mindlessly walk and walk and walk and walk. We know what it does for us uh when we need to
02:18clear
02:18our minds and we go for a long walk or a run or a ride. Exercise is really important. Hello
02:24boys.
02:24Oh oh oh oh. Joji. Yummy. Yes. Next time. Next time. Next time your turn. Next time your turn.
02:33Next time. Next time. Next time. Next time. Next time. Next time. Next time. Next time.
02:46So now the question is who do I follow uh Gabby or Bobcat?
02:52All right. Let's see.
02:59As expected Bobcat's already
03:04starting on his marking.
03:08Oh.
03:13Here Gibbs.
03:16You're delicious. Oh.
03:36All these smells boy. Sure. Hey.
03:41This is what life's about. Okay. Bobcat poo number. Poo number one. So yeah. Bobcat. Hope you enjoy.
03:53Maybe we'll leave Bobcat and go with Gabby or let's see what Gabby wants to do first.
03:57Um. She's looking, looking, looking, looking as to what there is to do. Let's go there.
04:30Oh my god.
04:34Oh. Are you happy?
04:45No jumping today Gabs. I know you're excited.
04:50And look at that. Is that not what it's all about?
04:59Gabby and Bobcat. Bobcat having fun.
05:06Oh.
05:08Oh.
05:35Gotta keep an eye on Gabby that she doesn't going to chew tires.
05:40Hi Gabby! Her and her brother are both very energetic almost hyperactive cats remind me a bit of myself too
05:51much energy at times so Gabby's very curious she will always explore always keen for a game and always keen
06:03to jump on me so today I don't feel like being jumped on.
06:11Gabby you'll hear me say that a lot with this lion Gabby Gabby Gabby Gabby Gabby Gabby Gabby go away
06:25away silly buddy go that way go Gabs
06:35Gabby!
06:36So you'll often hear us screaming. Gabby as Gabby does what Gabby does.
06:45Naughty cat.
06:52wouldn't say it's naughty actually i think gabby you're just mischievous
06:57and uh you've got lots of energy that you need to dispose of
07:06i think we follow you gabs let's go gabs let's go come on let's go
07:27so probably follow her around and him when he joins us for about an hour hour and a half
07:34pretty much the same period of time that you'd probably take your dog for a long walk
07:41um as i say they were fed yesterday so um that could be a factor
07:54a determiner of their energy gabby's seeing what's going on there
08:06here comes bobcat already she's calming down uh here comes mr big
08:23all right so bobcat today is really just about sniffing out poopoo
08:30i think for him you gotta watch your back otherwise you're gonna have gabby slam dunking you
08:40uh gabby as i've said she is a boisterous lovely lioness
08:46um she's not the tallest of lionesses but she is quite a chunky stocky girl
08:54um not overweight at all gabby's been gabby since a small little cub she's always jumped
09:01um on me and she's always um keen to surprise you so she's got that that little bit of you
09:09know
09:09people often say do the lions have um you know their personalities do they have like fun personalities
09:15and naughty personalities and joking personalities and i can tell you now when i look at gabby uh she's
09:22definitely got one of those personalities that is like sneaky and i'm gonna have some fun and i'm
09:28gonna jump on you and when you when you least expect it i'm gonna take you down and and that
09:33you
09:34can almost hear her giggling under her breath um and that's really what i love about gabby
09:39and she's always she's always pulling these pranks on old bobcat and who sometimes takes it in his
09:46stride and other times he gets quite upset about it you know you can see that when bobcat's uh been
09:53embarrassed almost by gabby then bobcat's like oh you know um can't do that to me and then he'll give
10:01her a real a real go back so um yeah that's bobcat and gabby okay so gabby's found a skull
10:11of an impala
10:15male it's actually just the horns nothing really to eat there girl but she's still gonna try and make a
10:23meal
10:23of it we'll just leave her to do that we'll just follow bobcat oh yeah boy happiness is bobcat
10:53oh all in the camera
10:58being mocked by bobcat okay camera mocked uh compliments of bobcat okay so bobcat what can
11:09we say about bobcat he really is good for his age at an age where most lions in the wild
11:15would be
11:16you know way um past their prime and pretty much ousted from their pride uh because of condition
11:25life is a lot tougher out there bobcat fits the description of a lion i would say if you had
11:34to
11:34guess his wild age wild equivalent age i think you would be looking at about a seven year old lion
11:39so he he literally does look half his age i'm sure most of you would agree look at that cat
11:46he's really
11:47incredible looking good bobcat
11:59he's enjoying this as am i i think it's always good to get out walk let them stretch their legs
12:08get rid of that energy so it's it's so apparent when they first get out they're just so excited they
12:15don't know where to go and what to do which direction to take off in and then as the minutes
12:21you know in that half an hour hour ticks by um you know they really slow down and then gabby's
12:30on her way
12:30following us with her skull uh in mouth so yeah so bobcat bobcat um also doesn't suffer fools gladly
12:43he really wants people um to respect his space he wants uh lions to respect his space too but he
12:52specifically likes uh people to keep their distance from him if you get too close to bobcat bobcat's going
12:58to let you know uh and he lets you know simply by the way that he knows how to communicate
13:04these things to you by growling oh
13:09oh
13:13oh
13:18oh
13:19oh
13:19oh
13:27oh
13:28oh
13:28oh
13:31oh
13:32oh
13:34oh
13:47he's a black mane line
13:49as you can see
13:50gold type of golden uh fringe
13:53with the black black black black black
13:56um
13:58he's marking a lot his testosterone levels are still
14:01very very peaky and there the telltale of that is behind the the hind leg
14:10there is that black black stripe which is very very dark on Bobcat very very
14:18dark that is a sign of his testosterone levels and condition and so you can hear
14:29the other lions roaring and Bobcat's listening you're really cool if he starts
14:39roaring
14:44couldn't be bothered Kev he's saying so he's heard something hence that look look at
14:56those eyes completely focused incredible
15:05Oh
15:53Oh you're loving that boy
15:56Pooh looking good
16:22see naughty Gabby wanting to cause trouble with Bobcat
16:45so while Bobcat sits there licking some antelope poop which basically I've explained it before
16:57but it acts on the same receptors the feel-good receptors in the brain and so he's actually
17:02he's actually getting on a bit of a high from sniffing and tasting and licking and when he's licking it
17:09he's actually the sense coming over the organ of Jacobson and so he's you know drawing it in that way
17:18and it's actually quite fascinating to see when I smell the poop it actually doesn't smell that offensive it's actually
17:26quite a nice smell
17:27so I totally I totally get why Mr. Big walking on I totally get why he likes it
17:35and certain poop has a much better flavor than other poop so yeah that's what Bobcat enjoys he enjoys just
17:47cruising around and you know sniffing the bush marking his territory and
17:57rolling around and just wondering whereas Gabby enjoys different things Gabby's always looking for something to chase and looking for
18:04something to
18:04you know claw on the trees and she's jumping up and down trees and exploring she's a real explorer
18:11to actually see her huff and when she wants to just pop her
18:11after her
18:11so
18:13so
18:25it's gonna be haunted
18:26it's gonna be a little bit
18:31it's gonna be a little bit
18:34it's gonna be a little bit
18:36where
18:37it's gonna be a little bit
18:41for her
19:01Oh!
19:11Alright guys so it's worth discussing this as Bobcat walks past what used to be a dam and there's the
19:23dam wall where Gabby is now coming from so Gabby is walking towards us from the dam wall and this
19:29whole area here is normally you know a dam and at least a wetland but currently it's as drier
19:40as a bone we've had a really really dry summer last summer was really dry not the rainfall we needed
19:51and so we sit here towards the end of winter coming on spring and we're just praying for rain we
19:59seem to have made it through we certainly got a month or two before the the real rain starts so
20:07I don't want to get too excited too soon
20:10but I was extremely worried that we wouldn't get through the winter and it just seems that the underground water
20:17has been enough to to bubble through
20:21so yeah but it is it is real the drought is real
20:25come Gabs come oh come come sweetie
20:37come Gabby
20:56nice and peaceful
20:57I'm so sorry
21:00How many共
21:08good
21:09you can see
21:19I'm so sorry
21:19I'm so sorry
21:27but you can see
21:27oh yes is that nice is that nice
21:45okay
22:06okay
22:14just waiting to see what Gabby gets up to
22:26Bobcat's looking for some more interesting stuff to roll around in get his scent on
22:43here
22:51Gabby's climbing trees
22:59I think he's pretty much almost spent so if I didn't know any better I would say that Bobcat's probably
23:13going to go and try and find somewhere to chill out
23:19and
23:20and
23:35and
23:36and
24:04So, let's go.
24:17It's a beautiful little thicket here and this tree is all drooped over all the
24:24dead branches. Behind there used to be obviously the water source so it was
24:29filled with water. It's a really really nice place to just chill and hopefully
24:34she does just that. Gabs? Oh!
24:47Come. Yeah.
25:04Hey Gab. Oh! Oh!
25:12Oh!
25:25Do you have a good time? Hmm? Good time? Where's your naughty man? Hey? Oh! Look at that big belly.
25:35You're meant to be on a diet.
26:00Hello, boy. Oh!
26:06oh
26:20okay George he's left them there he's gonna I think he's heading more
26:24towards that enclosure I might just open that gate there and let them in there
26:38walk almost over hey I think it was a lovely walk look at you you out of breath
26:44big boy hey mm-hmm yeah boy oh
27:22you
27:23you
27:25you
27:50Okay so we're making our way back now it's been a lovely walk

29:42just click on the subscribe button and yeah share these videos guys that's how we
29:48spread the awareness to the plot of the line both in captivity and the wild almost
29:55there boy this was once a wetland so in summer we shouldn't really be able to walk
30:04over this we will just simply sink but in winter we can still do that
30:15so I've decided I'm not going to load them back in the vehicle I'm just going to
30:17actually put them in an area here that they are used to haven't been in it for a while but
30:26so it's also going to be fun and exciting but it's been a really really good walk
30:36I get some exercise so it's not only just about those two and their mental well-being and physical
30:45well-being it's also about mine so yeah here we go here we go
31:09might take a little bit of persuasion
31:19okay
31:29well it didn't really take too long for gaps yeah
31:38oh
31:51come get a bobcat oh yeah
31:59until next time from bobcat
