01:53yeah this pride is always so tricky to get going at these days so I've tried a
02:01bit of a different approach today forgive me if it looks like I'm wearing
02:05sunglasses I am okay he stays starting to play a bit now which is good but
02:13before I left to go away on my trip his pride was really really tricky in fact I
02:22had to leave Thor behind on one of the walks just so that I could walk the
02:28group I see old Charlie's now the tricky one today Thor seems fine but he
02:36doesn't want he still doesn't want Charlie too close
03:04I don't know what's the matter with this cat out out and about that's the tricky
03:09part over oh sorry I think he definitely needs to stretch his legs a bit because
03:16yeah this is so important these walks for them I can't emphasize it enough here

04:08as I said earlier about 10-11 days and so this is me catching up almost like a
04:18reunion video with Thor's group fun and games
04:28you're gonna see the perspective that I get but I can see he's still I think he's
04:38got he's got this possessiveness over India and it's mainly India it could also be
04:45Lola the reason being is they've been giving off this false estrus and we are
04:51gonna have to and I have mentioned this before we are gonna have to do a full
04:56spay and I have explained to you guys before why it's not because I'm picking on
05:04the females it's because it's a little bit trickier if I vasectomize the boys which
05:15is not a problem guys I have no problem vasectomizing the boys it's just that if
05:22you vasectomize the boys then the problem is is if you vasectomize the boys and you
05:30leave the girls to their own devices that doesn't stop the estrus cycle and that
05:36would be causing havoc between the males continuously because if they vasectomize
05:43the girls will never fall pregnant so as you can imagine it's this vicious cycle
05:47literally guys honestly the best thing for a lion pride is for the lions to breed
05:55breeding lines are the best thing but you cannot do that in captivity
06:03yeah he's definitely keeping keeping a close eye on Charlie he doesn't want Charlie going anywhere
06:12near and it's actually this time it's Lola okay so if each lioness has four lion cubs each
06:21um litter survives that's four times four that's sixteen lions overnight so this pride of six lions
06:29goes from uh six to sixteen plus six so yeah 22 lions in a heartbeat and uh what do you
06:40do with all
06:40those lions when they get older you can't growl at the water buddy i love about um don't growl at
06:58the water
07:01gets grumpy because you can't cross the water
07:05all right all right i'm going to cross higher up i think that's going to be a safer place to

07:53people are always writing and thanking us because they they learned something new about
07:58lion behavior that they could not otherwise have ever have learned by watching a documentary because
08:04documentaries don't get this close to lions guys they don't understand walking with a lion her
08:10behavior why she's flicking her tail like that at the moment look at it she's doing little circles
08:17flicking her tail you'll see it now there and there and there
08:25you know why she's doing that because she's hot on the trail of a scent and that's her
08:33interest and her focus that tail in this context but a flicking tail in another context
08:53could mean irritation and aggravation so a flicking tail in another context could mean she's just about
09:03to uh pounce so if she was hunkered down in the grass and her tail was flicking left to right
09:09right to
09:09left she would um be moments away from pouncing on her prey so yeah you can't just look at a
09:20flicking tail
09:21and assume that that is what is going on okay so she does these interesting look how she's sniffing
09:31she's catching the scent of that warthog there was a warthog in here and she's going to find it i
09:39know jabari
09:40she will lock into that scent and she's going to walk in zigzags backwards and forwards
09:50so what she's doing is she's crossing the scent trail then losing it then picking it up then losing it
09:56and so forth and so forth until she can triangulate where the strongest scent of that animal is and
10:02then she'll she'll lock in on it crazy
10:10look at that swagger love it look at that guys so here i'm hot on the trail of some lion
10:21tracks they're
10:21pretty fresh so i can see they are probably about um 10 seconds old and that's the reason why
10:32look at that we can see where she's made those paw prints and this is what always uh you look
10:39at that
10:39track there and this is what always uh it interests me when i go to the bush and i hear
10:47trackers talking
10:49about um why this track is old and now this particular track if i was in the wild with a
10:58tracker
10:59and they weren't a master tracker they were just a normal bush guide they're going to say look at
11:04this track it's now we know that this track was made 10 seconds ago look at that piece of grass
11:09look
11:10at that piece of grass look at that going over the tow pad and all these stones um so if
11:17i was in the in
11:18the bush i can tell you now a guide's going to go maybe that's a day old or half a
11:23day old because
11:24you see the wind's blown some of the sands falling into the track there's a piece of grass over the
11:29track but that's my point is the tracks are not always pristine and perfect even when they're made
11:39let's see if these two have a little moment together

12:01oh jabari's she's uh scratching the ground there not happy not happy with the hyenas over there
12:13who actually been very very well behaved today they're not running up and down and giggling and
12:17being all stupid but this is where we've got to just watch a little bit because thor is now getting
12:24pretty peed off and then what he can what he can do is then he says oh look over there
12:32um there's
12:33charlie getting in the way and he's going to run and blick some charlie for coming near lola who's over
12:42here so i'll just keep a watchful eye on that knowing the dynamics of the pride all right so for
12:52those of you who are coming across this video for the very first time and you are asking yourself a
12:58question why is this idiot walking with six lions um the reason being and for those of you who know
13:06my work and watch my videos uh just uh bear with me but uh yeah these lines six lions 12
13:14years of age
13:14they're all more or less 12 uh thor will be um literally turning 12 in december uh the rest will
13:23follow
13:24behind very very quickly but um there are four females and two males uh there just so happens to be
13:33three
13:34white lions and three tawny lions but they live in captivity and what my relationship with them
13:44allows me to do is it allows me to give them a life that would mimic as close as possible
13:51the life of a
13:52lion in the wild in other words these lions can at least get out into a big area this area
13:57is 50
13:59hectares and what that means is that they can explore this area um without me having any control over
14:10what what we want to do as a group so we as a group decide where we want to go
14:16and as a pride we all
14:18generally stick together in this vicinity or in this area and it's wonderful to see how they just act and
14:28behave within this area so we're looking at lions doing what lions would be doing uh that would be
14:35kind of exploring sniffing looking for prey uh this would i would i would equate this to lions uh being
14:44on
14:44the hunt early hours it's cool look at her she's looking she's scanning her environment um they
14:51sniffing they are scratching they are doing all the things that a lion would be doing in the wild
14:58and that a lion wouldn't be doing in an enclosure okay now let me catch up with these girls but
15:04they've decided to go through all this crappy bush here all i know one of them is waiting
15:11in ambush ah let's see why they're here so there's been fresh warthog activity here and i can see
15:26someone is busy digging
15:33to try and get them out
15:38very fresh
15:47yeah i don't think
15:51any warthog is going to get out of there or come out of there
15:56i certainly think they've caught wind that these two are out and about so
16:05yeah i'm not overly optimistic although this is very fresh activity over here
