00:38need to free up this camp, do some maintenance work on it, and move the two lions that are

01:13I must say, I'm super thrilled with Vayetzi's progress in terms of his health. I want you

01:44As you can see, that really was a piece of cake. There was no effort involved whatsoever.

02:04Alright, so the lions both safely in the back. That makes my life a lot easier. Now I can literally
02:11just let him out. We can drive to the next camp and then offload them there.
02:18And what it does guys is it really makes managing this facility that much easier. Having these
02:26relationships with these animals that would otherwise be very wary and hateful of people potentially.
02:33It would make things extremely dangerous to try and move lions around to different camps for
02:40management purposes. So this is a stress-free way of doing it. It's, you know, likened or akin to you
02:50taking your dog, you know, somewhere in the car. But it's a dog that actually enjoys going in the car.
03:02Whereas, if you have animals that are not acclimatized to doing this kind of thing, then that too can become
03:17a stress.
03:19So what's important to note is that lions like Vietzi and Ginny and Bobcat and Gabby and all the rest
03:28of
03:29the lions here at the sanctuary, they've all grown up with this vehicle and other vehicles like it.
03:34And for them, this is an absolute outing. Being able to be moved from this camp to another camp for
03:43management purposes, which also completely enriches their lives. So as much as this is important for
03:52management of this facility, because now I don't have lions in here, I can now go in there and do
03:58all the necessary tree cutting, grass cutting, whatever needs doing on the fences, etc.
04:06Without having lions in there and without having to call a vet out at great expense
04:13and sedate these animals just to move them to another camp. It just makes no sense. It's nonsensical.
04:20Stress them out, put them under anesthetic, purely so you can move them from one camp to the other.
04:27This just really makes a whole lot of sense when you're managing the lives of these animals in a
04:33captive situation. And look at how stressed they are. Are you stressed my boy? Look at the stress.
04:44So folks, the reason for that explanation is because there has been a few people out there asking
04:53why do I move them and how do I move them, you know?
05:00So there's a good explanation as to why and how. And there's many other factors involved, but that's the
05:12main rationale or reasoning. I always say to people, can you imagine living in one space your entire life?
05:21As an animal that's living in a captive environment and as an animal whose life I manage,
05:30I have a duty and an obligation to give that animal the best quality of life that I can possibly
05:38give.

11:17we started to
11:18notice some physiological changes
11:22in bobcat
11:23probably about two three years ago
11:26up until that point bobcat was quite
11:29quite strong
11:30I want you to notice specifically
11:33uh
11:34the bow leggedness
11:35of bobcat
11:36so when he walks
11:38look how the legs
11:39bow
11:42all right
11:42so that has become
11:45a way
11:47of compensating
11:49we took bobcat
11:51to peter for
11:52a x-ray of the spine
11:54and the hips
11:55I noticed
11:56severe crepitus
11:57in the hips
11:59crepitus is the
12:00the grinding
12:03kind of bone on bone
12:06so
12:06unfortunately
12:08that was quite severe
12:10and then
12:11the x-rays revealed
12:14that
12:15bobcat
12:16had spondylosis
12:17of the vertebra
12:19which is basically
12:21arthritis
12:22of the
12:23of the vertebra

12:26in some areas
12:28he also had
12:29ankylosing
12:29spondylosis
12:30which is when the bones
12:32fused
12:32and we did put him
12:33on a
12:34a whack of different
12:35courses
12:36to
12:36kind of stabilize
12:38everything
12:39and so
12:39what we saw
12:40was that
12:42this guy
12:43was suffering
12:44a lot more
12:45in the early
12:47days
12:48of having
12:49this arthritic
12:51issue
12:52okay
12:54but as
12:55the ankylosing
12:57of the bone
12:57so as the bone
12:59fuses
13:00then we see
13:01that
13:02it tends to
13:03although it tends
13:05to change
13:06to change
13:07them mechanically
13:08they tend to
13:10compensate
13:11and work around it
13:12and cope a lot
13:13better than
13:14in initial phases
13:15so that's what

13:19any anti-inflammatories
13:21or any pain meds
