00:00Let's take it to Florida now, and Florida's just been swamped by torrential rainfall.
00:05Take a look, one teen seen walking in near waist-deep floodwaters at his school bus stop in Port St.
00:11Lucie.
00:11And Florida Panthers fans had a soggy walk back to their cars after last night's game,
00:16walking through the flooded parking lot.
00:18Jeff, I was just watching on social media, someone taking their paddleboard to get out and vote today
00:23because they were flooded in.
00:24How about that? It's a memorable event.
00:26And record floodwaters left cars submerged and trapped people in their homes.
00:32Here in Palm Bay, Florida, police have confirmed one death due to the flooding.
00:35The city of Palm Bay experienced a one-in-a-thousand-year flood event.
00:40Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has declared a state of emergency for several impacted counties.
00:45And one-in-a-thousand-year flood event means that there is a one-tenth of a percent chance
00:50of flooding of that magnitude in that location any given year.
00:53So, again, if you kind of average it out, you'd have about one 100-year flood event every century.
01:02At least statistically, that's the way it would work out.
01:04This is one-in-a-thousand-year flood event in Palm Bay, Florida.
01:08All these icons here are locations where the polling places had to be moved or changed because of flooding.
01:15It was a big deal here in eastern Florida and, again, some shifting plans because of inaccessible or flooded locations.
01:23Overall, by the numbers, the 72-hour window opens up the door here for what has been a 28-inch
01:29rain event in Malabar.
01:31Palm Bay, where we mentioned that one-in-a-thousand-year flood event,
01:34that small spot there with that pink color, 24 to 36 inches estimated by radar.
01:39Rain gauge report, 28.17 inches.
01:42Other areas like Bernair Beach, 26 inches of rain.
01:45Melbourne Beach had 20 inches plus.
01:47Incredible rainfall.
01:48We're going to be mainly wet on the east side of Florida tomorrow and more of the interior southeast,
01:54all the way down to the Gulf Coast and up into places like Nashville and Atlanta.
01:57We'll see some showers and even a thunderstorm or two tomorrow.
02:00The severe risk comes down from where it has been over the past day or two.
02:06We've had some flash flooding and severe thunderstorms, even a few tornado threats as well.
02:11But tomorrow's risk for strong thunderstorms still may bring a couple of severe warnings,
02:16but we don't expect to see as much intensity near the Gulf Coast.
02:19And then as we move forward into Thursday night and Friday, we have some more showers and storms,
02:24putting a decisive end to that long dry spell in Raleigh, North Carolina.
02:28Here you can see showers and storms returning.
02:30We will probably not see as much as we need, but at least there will be some rain out there
02:34on Thursday and Friday.
02:36And a quick look ahead to Friday.
02:37More dry weather returning to the interior.
02:40Storms and showers along the tail of the front right along the coast.
