Slow-moving storms raise flood risk in the Southeast

Multiple rounds of torrential rainfall over the first days of August could lead to flash flooding across the Southeast.

00:00We've had some strong storms here continuing across this region, some severe storms across

00:03the coast and along the interior. So yes, we'll still be watching out along the leading edge of

00:08that front, that cold front. Now behind the front, we're going to see clearing skies and really nice

00:13weather. That's what's brought us those widespread 70s to the north and across the northeast. But

00:17along the leading edge, as this cold front continues to drift its way to the south,

00:21we will still be watching out for widespread showers, storms. The highest potential for

00:24severe weather will continue here across primarily the I-95 corridor there in South Carolina. So

00:29we'll keep you up to date on that as we go forward. But it's not just this evening that

00:33we're tracking a risk of heavy rainfall, flooding and severe weather. We're going to be watching

00:37out for this stormy pattern to persist even as we head throughout the next four to five days.

00:42This is going to last even as we head throughout early parts of next week. The timeline on this

00:46is going to be between now and Tuesday. Look at that. The localized flash flooding will be an issue

00:52and along the shores, rough surf and rip currents will be possible as well. So we'll be watching

00:57out for that potential. But in this darkest shade of green here from Alabama all the way through

01:02North Carolina, this is where we're going to be watching out for that highest potential of

01:06flash flooding here, widespread flash flooding across this region with rounds of torrential

01:10rainfall that could bring travel disruptions here as we head into early parts of next week.

01:15So how much rainfall are we expected to see? Well, some areas across parts of Georgia and South

01:20Carolina, especially the coastal areas, can see anywhere between widespread four to eight inch rainfall

01:25totals. Some areas possibly there could be one rain gauge out there that could see up to a foot

01:30of total rainfall. So for some of these areas, we can see dangerous, if not devastating flooding

01:34as we had in early parts of next week. Here's the overall setup of what we are tracking for Saturday

01:39and you can see widespread showers and storms not only across the Gulf, but it'll also extend up into

01:44parts of Western Oklahoma and the Texas Panhandle, but it's still going to be sweltering across the

01:49central and southern parts of the Florida peninsula. So heads up for that. That's where we're going to see

01:53widespread nineties in the forecast. Jacksonville, Tampa, down through Miami, the rest of the region

01:58temperature wise will primarily be in the seventies and eighties because of the cloud coverage and the

02:02rain chances here. We'll see some rain cooled seventies, especially up to the north. Now behind the front,

02:07that's where we're going to see the nice weather finally starting to work its way into the forecast. So

02:10it's going to be nice for Saturday. It's going to be pretty nice on Sunday as well, but we will still be

02:14watching out for widespread showers and thunderstorms to continue to dominate the forecast headlines.
