OpenAI just rewrote the rules for how ChatGPT should behave. ๐
On October 29, 2026, OpenAI updated its Model Spec, the public document that describes how it wants its models to act. According to OpenAI's Model Release Notes and the Model Spec itself:
โข The new version is built around five core values: faithfulness to human intent, harm minimization, honesty and transparency, human agency, and care.
โข It adds guidance on memory, personalization and oversight.
โข It retires most of the detailed style guidance.
โข It now refers to the model as "GPT" instead of "the assistant".
The same day, OpenAI said GPT-6 in ChatGPT will give more concise answers with less flattering language. That applies to Free and Go users and people using ChatGPT signed out. On Plus and Pro, only the fallback model you get after hitting usage limits changes.
