Your ChatGPT agent can now text you back. ๐ฌ
On October 28, 2026, OpenAI started rolling out texting for "dots", the always-on ChatGPT agents it introduced earlier this year. According to OpenAI's ChatGPT help pages:
โข You can reach your dot through iMessage on iPhone or RCS on Android, in one-to-one conversations.
โข You can send it text, photos and voice messages, and it can text you when something needs your attention.
โข If your dot needs your approval, it sends you a link to review the request in ChatGPT.
โข OpenAI says your dot can only text you, only you can text it, and setting up texting does not give your dot or OpenAI access to your other text conversations.
โข The catch: texting is a beta for ChatGPT Pro users in the U.S., and group chats, phone calls and FaceTime are not supported through texting for now.
9to5Mac and The Verge also reported the rollout on October 28.
