Episode 5. On today's interview of The Brian Nichols Show, I'm joined by Richard Blank (CEO of Costa Rica's Call Center) who give us some real, authentic means to enhance the sales experience for both the prospect AND the salesman.

The Brian Nichols Show Episode 518 features Richard Blank, CEO of Costa Rica's Call Center, discussing how his background as an old-school retro gamer shapes and enhances the modern sales experience.

The Core Concept: Retro Gaming Meets Sales

Richard Blank uses his obsession with 1970s and 1980s classic arcade games and pinball machines—which he actively collects and houses directly inside his call center—as a foundation for building authentic connections in business. Instead of traditional, aggressive sales techniques, the episode focuses on human-centric strategies:

Meeting People Where They Are: Applying the basic fundamentals of sales and marketing to truly understand the prospects' needs rather than just trying to win an argument.
The Gamification of Soft Skills: Treating the sales process with the patience, tactical planning, and engagement of retro gaming to enhance the experience for both the consumer and the salesperson.
Company Culture: Building an environment where employees genuinely enjoy their workspace, fostering retention and better customer service.

00:00Let's talk about the enhancing the experience, and I'm writing that note down there, because
00:05you brought up not just the experience of the customer, the prospect, but you also mentioned
00:11the experience of the agent.
00:14Could you dig into that a little bit more?
00:16100%.
00:16In fact, I didn't come into the call center space as a C-level executive.
00:21I started off as an agent.
00:23And so for years, I was sitting amongst thousands upon thousands of Costa Rican bilingual Ticos
00:28that were on the phone speaking in English, getting positive escalations and converting
00:32calls.
00:33And so for me, I found it fascinating, the art of speech, because most people today are
00:38just chatting and sending out emails.
00:40But to me, there's a beautiful connection you can make with somebody over the phone in
00:44regards to retention, upsell referrals, and sometimes even getting an exit interview back
00:49on areas to improve and to beat your competition.
