Episode 5. On today's interview of The Brian Nichols Show, I'm joined by Richard Blank (CEO of Costa Rica's Call Center) who give us some real, authentic means to enhance the sales experience for both the prospect AND the salesman.

The Brian Nichols Show Episode 518 features Richard Blank, CEO of Costa Rica's Call Center, discussing how his background as an old-school retro gamer shapes and enhances the modern sales experience.

The Core Concept: Retro Gaming Meets Sales

Richard Blank uses his obsession with 1970s and 1980s classic arcade games and pinball machines—which he actively collects and houses directly inside his call center—as a foundation for building authentic connections in business. Instead of traditional, aggressive sales techniques, the episode focuses on human-centric strategies:

Meeting People Where They Are: Applying the basic fundamentals of sales and marketing to truly understand the prospects' needs rather than just trying to win an argument.
The Gamification of Soft Skills: Treating the sales process with the patience, tactical planning, and engagement of retro gaming to enhance the experience for both the consumer and the salesperson.
Company Culture: Building an environment where employees genuinely enjoy their workspace, fostering retention and better customer service.

00:00Talk to us. What was the story that led Richard Blank going to Costa Rica, of all places, and now
00:07having such an amazing career of success leading this amazing call center team?
00:12Thank you so much for the great question. It actually starts back in northeast Philadelphia.
00:17When I graduated Abington High School back in 91, I doubled down on my favorite class, which was Spanish.
00:22Went to the University of Arizona, was a Spanish communication major.
00:26And at 27, a very good friend of mine gave me an opportunity to come down just for two months
00:30and train English at his call center.
00:33Well, two months turned into four years at his center. I'm currently in this country for 22 years, and I'm
00:39celebrating my 14th year of business running my own call center.
00:42And so when I was there, I was able to see areas in which to enhance the experience for the
00:46agent and for the client.
00:48And then in my mid-30s, I decided to throw my hat in the ring and start my own company.
