00:00I get this as well.
00:01When you're a highly paid quarterback and you lose a football game,
00:07we look at the quarterback.
00:09For instance, let's look at the, this is an example.
00:12It's been a rough year for Justin Herbert of the Los Angeles Chargers, right?
00:17The only names we hear from the Los Angeles Chargers are Herbert,
00:22Harbaugh, and Mike McDaniel.
00:25That's the only three names that we hear about.
00:27But all of them stink.
00:29Like, they're getting horrible play from everybody.
00:33So, okay, that's the way it works.
00:36You're the quarterback.
00:37And I do think of the seven games,
00:39that was probably the worst performance that we've seen from Purdy.
00:44Then again, that's not the most terrible criticism ever
00:48because he's had a great year and he's an MVP candidate halfway through
00:51and all of those things.
00:53I look at yesterday and I see a game that was not ideal,
00:59some decisions he'd love to have back,
01:01acknowledge the weaponry problem that was present
01:06that also got worse when Christian McCaffrey left the game,
01:11and continue to say what I think I've said for a number of years now.
01:16Brock Purdy is not the 49ers problem.
01:19He is not a 49ers problem.
01:23Yesterday was not his best stuff.
01:25It, I thought, was good enough.
01:28They moved the ball after a week where they were told that,
01:32yeah, Mike Evans goes out and you can't move the ball.
01:35Well, they did, they did, they still scored 20 points with four turnovers
01:42and a turnover on downs and a missed extra point
01:47and whatever else you want to throw into that conversation.
01:50So, yeah, not a banner day for Brock Purdy,
01:53but way short of an issue or a problem as far as I'm concerned.
01:58I mean, he was an issue, but if you want to rank the issues,
02:01he's not number one.
02:02He certainly is up there because, for me, the pick he threw,
02:06the first one, was the moment where the game really swung
02:09because you were moving down the field
02:11and you were in a spot where you could have at least settled for three
02:15and you were unable to do so.
02:17Like, the Kalon Black fumble in the first half, yeah, that was brutal
02:20and that was one that was unfortunate,
02:22but you go up and you give up three before the half,
02:25Atlanta comes out and they get seven more.
02:28So, you know, that's basically a 10-point swing
02:31without the offense really doing anything
02:34and now you're on the move, you're down to the 25-yard line
02:36and you throw a pick.
02:37And so that was the moment where you go down there,
02:40even if you just get three.
02:41Now you're down 19-17, fine, at least you got something out of it.
02:45So, you had Atlanta double up on you,
02:48which is what Shanahan loves to do,
02:50and you couldn't do that because Black fumbled,
02:52they get a field goal, Osa jumps off sides,
02:54gives them new life, they get three,
02:56you don't even touch the ball,
02:58they get the kickoff, they score another touchdown,
03:01okay, now you're down five,
03:02and Brock does what he does, like you said,
03:04and McCaffrey actually returned for that drive.
03:07He had one carry, lost two yards,
03:09big play to Kittle,
03:11Farrell with a nice catch on a Brock scramble.
03:13It's like, right on, Brock, you're in your bag.
03:15You're going to do this.
03:16And then he throws an awful pick
03:18and just completely stops the momentum.
03:21You're talking about the first one or the second one?
03:23The first one.
03:23Yeah, the first one.
03:24I agree with you.
03:25Yeah, and so, I mean, it was not his best game.
03:27It probably was his worst game.
03:29And for me, it was that interception
03:32that was the one that completely flipped the game
03:35because then Atlanta goes down
03:36and I can't even add up how many plays in that next drive,
03:39but they go 90 yards
03:41and it takes you all the way into the fourth quarter.
03:44Now you're down by 12 points
03:45and the Niners get the ball back,
03:48but you're down by 12 with about 14 minutes left.
03:51Look, I accept all of that.
03:54Yeah, Brock Purdy, it was not a great day by him yesterday,
03:58but he is down my list of the first things
04:03that I would circle as to what happened
04:06to the 49ers yesterday.
04:07I will still maintain the other quarterback
04:11carries the answer to the equation
04:14as far as what happened.
04:15Michael Penix's quarterback rating yesterday was 119.
04:19Yeah.
04:20That's not acceptable.
04:22It's because nobody touched him.
04:24Nobody even moved him.
04:26You didn't even get him off of his spot.
04:29That's an NFL quarterback.
04:30Like, and he still missed some throws.
04:33I was going to say, yeah.
04:34He missed some wide open throws.
04:36So, I don't think, in fact, I know Penix's,
04:42his data would suggest he's very poor under pressure.
04:46He's not very mobile,
04:48and he is not the most accurate passer.
04:52And when you start to move him around a little bit,
04:55he really struggles, and the Niners didn't do it.
04:57And for me, it was the most surprising part
04:59of the football game yesterday
05:01was the lack of production and movement
05:04for the defensive line.
05:05Yeah, they couldn't get anything,
05:06and even when they would blitz,
05:08there were a few times where they blitzed
05:10in the third and the fourth quarter,
05:11and unfortunately, the Niners either got beat
05:14or they committed a penalty.
05:16And I'm looking at their Atlanta second drive.
05:18They're already up 19-14.
05:20It's third and eight around midfield.
05:22The Niners bring the heat,
05:23and they actually put a lot of pressure
05:26on Michael Penix, and he throws,
05:28and it's pass interference on Jack Jones.
05:30And that was the one where he grabbed the receiver,
05:33he held him, he was with him,
05:36then he tugged on his jersey,
05:37and the throw was,
05:38I don't think it was London on that one,
05:40but the pass was well overthrown,
05:42and Jones just throws up his hands like,
05:44what?
05:44You're going to call that?
05:46And he committed a multitude of fouls on the play.
05:48It was a foul the whole time.
05:49Right.
05:50Like, as he's running,
05:51I'm like, foul, foul, foul, foul, foul, foul, foul, foul, foul.
05:55Let him go.
05:55That becomes a 20-yard penalty.
05:57So now it's first and 10 at the Niners 34,
06:00and they went on and eventually scored,
06:02but a third down PI is something that can't happen.
06:06And the defense also had,
06:08as I mentioned earlier,
06:09same drive, second and 20,
06:11and there are two fouls,
06:14both of them against the defense,
06:15and one of them was on Jones,
06:16one was on Mustafa,
06:18and you go from second and 20 for Atlanta
06:20to now first and 10.
06:22Prediction,
06:22and we've got so much time for this
06:25as we head into the bye,
06:26but it just popped into mind
06:27as we're kind of talking about
06:29the productivity of all of this.
06:31If you want to kind of know
06:34exactly where the 49er offense is,
06:37by the time we see them again,
06:39I think there will be actual receivers
06:42that they mean to play
06:44out on the field.
06:45So that's one aspect of it.
06:48I think that they will get,
06:49right,
06:50they're going to get the mental
06:51and physical break that they need.
06:53Hopefully McCaffrey gets his leg
06:55feeling really good.
06:57And the 49ers can be somewhere near
06:59full strength offensively
07:00when we see them again,
07:01and they get a home date
07:02against a team that looks less
07:04and less scary by the minute
07:06in the Raiders,
07:07who have lost four games in a row.
07:10And I know everyone always focuses
07:12on the quarterback position.
07:13If you really want to know
07:14what's wrong with the Raiders,
07:15they don't stop the other team
07:16from scoring ever.
07:17If you look at the amount of points
07:19they've given up,
07:20it's just overwhelming.
07:22I expect the 49er offense
07:24to come out and really cook
07:27in their next two football games.
07:29They will be at home to the Raiders
07:31and on the road at Dallas.
07:33And those are two struggling defenses.
07:36It is after that,
07:38that the 49ers in theory,
07:40we got to play the games
07:42and all of that,
07:42but in theory should have people back.
07:45I don't know if it's going to be everybody,
07:47but assuming that you're receiving core
07:51is something more along the lines
07:53of Mike Evans,
07:54Demarcus Robinson,
07:55and Debo Samuel.
07:56And if you've got your rotation going
07:58of Christian McCaffrey and Kalon Black,
08:00and Kittle and Farrell are both healthy
08:02and the offensive line,
08:04fingers crossed,
08:05continues to stay healthy.
08:07And obviously by then,
08:09there will also have been
08:09the trade deadline.
08:10Who knows?
08:11Maybe you've even added
08:12some people in there.
08:13But after that,
08:15week 11 and week 12,
08:17you have back-to-back games
08:18against the two teams,
08:20I feel,
08:21are the two best defenses in football.
08:23So you will go to Mexico
08:25and play the Vikings,
08:26and you will come back to the Levi's
08:28to take on the Seattle Seahawks.
08:29It is at that moment
08:31that we will,
08:32in my opinion,
08:32find out how Super Bowl-ready
08:35the 49er offense actually is.
08:37That's kind of how I,
08:39that's how I'm looking
08:40at the next month of their lives.
08:41It's a fair way to look at it,
08:42and the Raiders have given up
08:44more points than everyone
08:46except Arizona.
08:47Yep.
08:47The Cardinals are even up 208,
08:49and you still have Arizona again.
08:51And you look at Minnesota,
08:52they've given up 74 points
08:54in six games.
08:55It's stunning.
08:56Yeah.
08:56It's stunning.
08:57Now, they have not played
08:58great offenses.
08:59It doesn't matter.
09:00Well, but they're about
09:01to get their test.
09:02They go to Detroit this week,
09:03and then they've got Buffalo
09:05right after that.
09:06The Vikings are about
09:07to get their test.
09:08We'll learn more about them.
09:09But yes,
09:10their output right now
09:11is incredible.
09:12Brian Flores is doing
09:12an awesome job.
09:13And the last undefeated team,
09:15so my weekend of disastrous
09:17trades, wagers,
09:18and fantasy football,
09:19I had Kansas City
09:21on Cal sheet
09:22as the last unbeaten.
09:24Whoops.
09:24And that thing went away
09:25last night.
09:26I had Houston
09:27in my survivor pool.
09:29I was down to eight.
09:30Eight of us left,
09:30and I think four of us dipped.
09:33So figure out
09:33what the tiebreaker is
09:34and where that
09:35meager payout will be.
09:37I'm not getting
09:38the big enchilada.
09:39I might get a couple
09:40of tortilla chips
09:41and some guac
09:42for the effort.
09:44Don't scoff at that.
09:45I'm not.
09:46I'm going to lose
09:47unless Dallas' defense
09:48gets like 38 points tonight.
09:50I'm going to lose
09:50to the worst fantasy
09:51football team in our league.
09:53It happens.
09:53Shout out Ken
09:55and his just awful squad
09:57that is picking me apart.
10:00So I'm trying to think
10:01if there's anything else
10:02that went awry for me.
10:03Well, the Nounners lost.
10:04Well, yeah, but I mean,
10:06fade the dipper,
10:06I had a cuckooch.
10:08Yeah, but I thought,
10:09you know, like...
10:10Right, but they're six and one.
10:10So I'm talking
10:11about me personally.
10:13Yeah, like I think
10:14this is what Lucky
10:15in the city is talking about.
10:17Lucky doesn't know
10:18the first thing about me.
10:18Personally, a 49er fan
10:21should care if the Niners win
10:24no matter if they're six and one
10:26or not.
10:26The point of this is...
10:29Thank you, Grandy.
10:29It's about the reality
10:32of the Kalshi,
10:34the fantasy football
10:35and the survivor.
10:36It has nothing to do
10:37with my Niner fandom.
10:38Yes, my Niner fandom.
10:39Okay, I cried yesterday
10:42for about an hour and a half.
10:43This isn't about you
10:44and your mesh cuckooch hats.
10:46It was only about me.
10:47The whole thing was about me.
10:49It's not.
10:50Survivor, loss,
10:51fantasy loss,
10:52Kalshi, loss.
10:53That's what that was about.
