00:00It's a weird dynamic of a game.
00:02I feel like we were all warned, led by you,
00:06that the 49ers could and potentially would lose this football game.
00:11And they did.
00:12So how many times before the game even happened
00:14had you heard someone say, you know,
00:17if you're going to the by six and one, that's pretty great.
00:20So I feel like we had been appropriately prepped
00:24for the possibility of what took place.
00:27I can just speak for me, the second you fly down the field
00:33with Bob, Tim, and Joe as your wide receivers
00:37and score a touchdown and then get the ball back
00:41and score a touchdown, the second you're up 14 to three,
00:45well, for me, it changes.
00:47It just does.
00:48I'm no longer happy, go lucky, six and one is just fine
00:53because you are signaling to me.
00:56You are once again still an effective offense
00:59even without so many of your weapons.
01:02Then Christian McCaffrey leaves the game
01:04and you are still able to move the ball.
01:07You're signaling to us you're the better football team.
01:11And by the way, duh, we know that you're better
01:14than the Atlanta Falcons.
01:16Not that the Falcons are the worst the league has to offer.
01:19And then the mistakes take over.
01:21I don't know where the defensive line was
01:23and when you lose the turnover battle by four,
01:27I mean, my God, it's actually incredible
01:30that this game was as close as it was.
01:33I wonder what the stats say through the years
01:35of being minus four in the turnover battle
01:38in a football game.
01:39It's probably pretty rare that anybody wins a game like that.
01:42Yeah, probably less than 10%.
01:44So I found yesterday to be disappointing.
01:46It's not like a disaster.
01:48It's not shocking.
01:50But I found it to be really disappointing.
01:52They could have and should have won that game, I thought.
01:54They had many chances even late to still win that game.
01:58And so you mentioned four turnovers.
02:00Well, the Kittle won at the end of the game.
02:02It's a turnover, but you're down by two scores, whatever.
02:05But if you want to add in the Osa-Odigizua
02:08offside jump on fourth and four,
02:10well, that's kind of a turnover
02:11because they're at the 44-yard line.
02:13And I don't think that they were going to go for it.
02:16They were in the,
02:17hell, let's just see what happens kind of a mode.
02:19If you kick the field goal, it's a 62-yarder.
02:22And now you give them a short field
02:24if, in fact, you don't make it.
02:26So I don't know what Atlanta would have done.
02:27But Osa, he didn't even jump.
02:30He barged through the line.
02:32And so automatic first down.
02:34They get three.
02:35They come out.
02:36They score on their first drive.
02:37And, okay, we've got ourselves a ball game.
02:39And at that point, things got a little bit sideways.
02:41And that's where the Brock Purdy pick to me
02:43was the biggest blow of the game
02:45because he's blatantly trying to just throw the ball away.
02:48And you mentioned, you know, Tom, Dick, and Harriet,
02:51wide receiver.
02:52I don't even know who was targeted.
02:53Was it Cowing?
02:54Was it Kirk?
02:55Was it Kirk Cowing?
02:56Was it Cowing Kirkland?
02:58Was it, you know, Costco and Kirkland?
03:00Where was Sourdough Sam?
03:02That's who I wanted him to throw the ball to.
03:04Throw the ball to.
03:05I don't even know if the Falcons have a mascot.
03:07It feels like they should have somebody out there
03:09flapping their wings,
03:09but that's the one where if you just throw it away
03:12like you kind of meant to,
03:14you live to fight another day.
03:15But that was the pick to me that swung the whole game.
03:18Like, yeah, that was, that was,
03:20and same thing in real time.
03:22And I think the Niners, too.
03:23Everybody thought the guy was out of bounds.
03:25I still don't know if he fully had possession
03:27with feet down, but it was an unbelievable effort.
03:30And, yeah, it's on Brock.
03:32You can't, you can't give that guy a shot.
03:35And so I'm with you.
03:36I think that was the one that annoyed Kyle.
03:37That was the one that annoyed me.
03:39I think we should be big enough to tip our cap
03:41when someone else makes a great play.
03:43The second interception at the end of the game,
03:44I thought was just a great, great play.
03:47Well disguised, well executed by the Atlanta linebacker.
03:52So, yeah, but Brock's a part of this.
03:55Kaelin Black's a part of this.
03:57George Kittle and Jordan James are a part of this.
03:59They were loose with the ball.
04:01And that is the one thing,
04:03especially on the road,
04:04that you cannot do.
04:07And 11-point lead,
04:08though it be very, very early,
04:10that's how you blow it.
04:12There was a run in this game
04:13where the Falcons scored 23 unanswered points.
04:17Yeah.
04:18Whoa.
04:19Whoa.
04:20Like, I don't care what the hell's going on
04:22with a team this good,
04:24that should not happen.
04:26You should never have anyone
04:28score 23 straight points on you.
04:31I don't see that for this team.
04:32And we saw it yesterday.
04:34And so that is,
04:35yeah, there's no death blow here.
04:37There's no calming of the Super Bowl hopes,
04:40but that was super disappointing, I thought.
04:43It was rough.
04:43And, you know,
04:44you had the black touchdown
04:46to go up 14-3 on their third possession.
04:49And then they go down and they score.
04:51And then you had the black fumble.
04:52And then you had the Osa jump.
04:54And then they get a field goal.
04:55Okay, there's a 9-0 run
04:56because they also doinked their PAT.
04:59We were swapping missed PATs.
05:01And then they come out,
05:02they get the ball,
05:03they score again,
05:04and Brock throws the pick,
05:06and they go down and they score again.
05:07And so for me,
05:08it was somewhat about the turnovers,
05:11but it also was about the defense.
05:12And they just could not get to Michael Penix.
05:15They had two pressures on the day.
05:16And I was looking at the game last night
05:19or yesterday in real time,
05:20and I watched it again last night.
05:22It really looked to me
05:23like a seven-on-seven July practice for Penix.
05:27You get the snap.
05:28You've got time.
05:29You're just bouncing on your feet.
05:30You look, you look, you look.
05:32Where's London?
05:33Where's Bijon?
05:34Where's Pitts?
05:35Charlie Warner got to eat a little bit.
05:37They had no pressure on Michael Penix.
05:40None, which was shocking
05:41after what this group without Nick Bosa had been doing.
