00:00Hey, what's up, everyone? Frankie V here, New York Post Sports and U Stadium.
00:04I wanted to make this quick video about a stat that really caught my attention.
00:10Now, listen, I am not a big preseason stat person.
00:15I don't think PFF grades in the preseason mean all that much.
00:21But there's something here that I think might point to something bigger going on at one Jets drive.
00:30That maybe the ship is actually turning maybe in the right direction.
00:36I'm going to be a little positive for once.
00:38Because after the second preseason game against the Steelers, the Jets just look like they're being coached better.
00:47Maybe Frank Reich was a pretty good hire.
00:50Maybe the offensive line coach in his second year as our offensive line coach, Steve Hyden, starting to get it.
00:56But maybe Aaron Glenn is a better defensive coordinator or play caller than we've given him credit for.
01:05There's a stat that PFF came out with that just caught my attention.
01:09The Jets right now are number one in the NFL in overall grade.
01:14They're number one on defense.
01:16They're number one in tackling.
01:18They have the best coverage grade at over a 90 for PFF, 91.1.
01:24You know, I was worried about the secondary.
01:26And they have the number one special teams on PFF.
01:30That's pretty interesting.
01:33That's good.
01:34I mean, that's something you want to see.
01:36Gino Smith came out against the Steelers and just starts the game hot.
01:40Seven to seven was perfect.
01:41Ends a drive with a touchdown.
01:4480 Mitchell gets involved.
01:45Who looks really good, by the way.
01:47Garrett gets a little involved.
01:49I don't know what's going on at one Jets drive.
01:52I don't know if Aaron Glenn is the coach of the future here.
01:56But I do think the Jets have put together a roster and have brought in some coaches that I think
02:03may actually be raising the floor here.
02:05And that's all we can ask for.
02:08After two preseason games, all you can ask for is for the fits to be right, for the offensive line
02:14to look good.
02:14I posted something where it looked like the parted sea with the way that these offensive linemen were blocking for
02:22Gino, giving him forever.
02:23He could have sat down and had a cup of coffee.
02:26Seriously.
02:27There may be the tide may be turning there with that team and we need it as a Jets fan
02:36covering the Jets, talking about them weekly for hours upon end.
02:42You want to see things moving in the right direction.
02:46And it looks like with the roster that they put together and some of the pieces that Darren Mugey's brought
02:51in here, things may be going in the right direction.
02:55Now, I don't want to get anyone's hopes up and you seeing a positive side of me might be a
03:00little bit different than usual.
03:01Because you know how hard I can be on this team, this coach, this owner, this quarterback, whomever that is.
03:09But I do like what I'm seeing.
03:11And when I looked at the Jets, the last two preseason games, looked at the all 22, the one thing
03:17that stood out is they look like a real football team.
03:21They don't look like what we had to see last year in the first half when they were 0-7
03:26and in the last month of the season where they gave up more points than any teams done in the
03:31month of December in NFL history.
03:34The Jets look like things might be turning in the right direction.
03:38And as a fan, I can sit here and say, I feel like this team just feels different.
03:43This team may be getting to a place where by next year, things start gelling with a young roster this
03:51year.
03:51And then next year, you can capitalize with the quarterback.
03:55You can bring in another piece on offense.
03:57You can bring in maybe someone in the secondary to help you out.
04:00And last but not least, my guy David Bailey got his first sack.
04:05Not a real sack.
04:07It's preseason.
04:08Again, we don't want to go too far into preseason stats.
04:10They don't count, but it's nice to see my guy getting off the edge, clean, getting to the quarterback, Will
04:18Howard, who had dropped back a bit too far, getting there clean.
04:22That's what you want to see when it comes to guys that make a living off getting sacks.
04:28You want the easy ones.
04:30You got to get the easy ones.
04:32It's like a baseball player.
04:34He's landed.
04:35If he's throwing that curveball, that's just hanging right over.
04:39I'm going to belt that one.
04:40And that's why I hit 50 home runs, because I get 20, 25 off pitches like that.
04:45That's the kind of sacks that you want to see Bailey just capitalizing on.
04:49Broderick Jones didn't set well enough.
04:51You got a little bit of an edge off your first step.
04:55Get home and finish.
04:57That's it.
04:58Guys make careers off sacks like that.
05:01And then you get the harder ones.
05:02And you get him using his spin move, his second tertiary move, whatever that is.
05:07But I like what I'm seeing from David Bailey.
05:10I like what I'm seeing from the Jets defense.
05:12And again, I mean, it's PFF stat.
05:14You're the number one overall defense.
05:16You're number one in tackling.
05:17And you have the number one coverage grade.
05:21Aaron Glenn, thus far, looks like you're doing a pretty good job with where the team's at right now.
05:27I can't hate all the time.
05:29You got to call a spade a spade when it's ready to be called a spade.
05:33Right now, it's ready to be called a spade.
05:35They're the number one team in the NFL ranked-wise on PFF.
05:38And watching them and going through the All-22, they look pretty good.
05:41With that said, Frankie V here, New York Post Sports.
05:44We'll be doing videos throughout the week.
05:46We will also be having our show, Gangs All Here, which Ryan Sampson and Brian Costello, the beat reporter for
05:54the New York Post Sports, covering the Jets now for a while.
05:57Now, Brian's a man.
05:59Brian's funny, too.
06:00He's a good time.
06:02We'll be doing our show weekly.
06:04And then we'll be doing our post-game shows in season, which always get a little feisty.
06:08Ryan gets at me a little bit, but I get right back at him.
06:11So those should be fun.
06:12We'll see how the team performs.
06:13But, yeah, tune in, hit a like, and a subscribe on the New York Post Sports.
06:17This season's going to be fun.
06:18This season's going to be fun because things are changing.
06:20New roster, new guys, young guys, new quarterback.
06:23It's going to be fun.
06:24So, yeah, with that said, Frankie V, New York Post Sports, and I'm a member of U Stadium that I
06:29helped found.
06:29So, yeah, with that said, have a great week.
