00:16there happy new year welcome to 2026 the new york jets are going into week 18 versus the
00:29buffalo bills and gangs all here is back as better than ever uh for a new year and we're here to
00:35discuss obviously this week 18 matchup against the bills we're going to talk about aaron glenn's
00:39comments but where the state of this team in his first year is 10 years a head coach and we're
00:43going to break it all down on today's episode but before we get to any of that cause happy new year
00:48how are you today sir i'm good ready for the season to be over we're almost there i think you are
00:56echoing a lot of what jets fans feel right now it's been uh jets jets just end the season
01:01for a while now uh frankie do you echo those sentiments right now 100 man the jets ruined
01:09my christmas i'll say that i was in the holiday you know cheer for the last two weeks or i was going
01:15to be until i had to talk about this team the last couple weeks so yeah look uh we took a little bit
01:21of a break uh for myself as the holidays reset but we're here now uh like cause said we're ready
01:26for the season and because there's going to be a busy busy offseason for this new york jets team as
01:31they navigate into what we expect a big offseason of hopefully finding the next quarterback and
01:36building this team the right way but i do want to start off fellas on what happened this week with
01:43aaron glenn talking about his team and for gang sounds off aaron glenn was asked uh by your our
01:50colleague mark canizero cause about what exactly he thinks this jets team has done well in this first
01:56year
01:56if you have to see when you have seasons like this um people are kind of trying to extricate the
02:05positives what would you say there's a handful of guys on this team that really kind of show
02:10some well overall as a team and i said that at the beginning is there are certain things that
02:16um there was a huge emphasis for us as a team to see how we want to get better um in 24 i think we
02:25were last in the league as far as running the ball i think in 23 we was in the bottom 10 and then we
02:31got ourselves to where we were somewhere in the top seven for right now all right so that was a huge
02:35emphasis and i'm proud of the way our guys went about that and breeskin a thousand yards also i mean
02:41we were dead last in the league when it came to penalties uh for two years straight and this year i think
02:46we're somewhere between 17 you know so that's a huge improvement for our guys and then also as
02:52for as special teams um i mean we've become one of the elite special team units right across the league
02:59and not just that even on some of the small detail things that people really don't look at
03:04and that's on our field goal block the field goal team last year we had three blocks
03:08and i feel like this team this year i mean we had no blocks we're at about 98 percent so
03:12as far as field goal so those are some things that um there was a huge emphasis from the very
03:18beginning and i know there's some things that we have to clean up you know and as we go forward
03:23those some things that we're looking at and that's defense and really our passing game on offense
03:27so that's what aaron glenn has to say about his his first year positives that he takes from this jets
03:33team uh cause just to point blank i know you asked him later in that same press conference about
03:38things people don't see inside the building that you know that this team has improved upon
03:44i thought that was an interesting answer as well but just starting off first year with aaron glenn
03:49have what have we learned about him as a head coach and do you agree with the positives that he's laid out
03:55there oh it's tough what we've learned about him as a head coach i i uh i don't know how i'd answer
04:04that ryan i'd have to think about that one in terms of the positives like yeah like the they've
04:09you know the special teams is the one you can't deny they they have been an elite special teams
04:16unit all season that is the plus in my eyes if you're asking me what they've done well and whenever
04:22i've written anything about aaron glenn and saying like here's the negatives here's the positive the
04:26positive is the special teams and he hired chris banjo he also emphasized special teams you could see
04:31that in the spring in the summer you could see he was doing that so give him credit for that the rest
04:36of it i'm kind of like yeah you know i mean i get the stats say that what they about their running game
04:40but have you ever felt like this was a dominant running team this season like i haven't no and
04:46you know the stats say what they do but sometimes the stats don't tell the whole story uh and then
04:52you know the kicking the no block field goals they just made me chuckle a little bit like
04:57you know that's like that's like your house is falling apart but you're like oh the water still
05:01comes out of the sink like it's kind of like the baseline expectation is like what you're
05:06you know like okay yeah you didn't have field goals block great like i don't he shouldn't have
05:10probably gone there um so you know and then he drops well we gotta really get better at defense and
05:17passing the ball oh just that like that's kind of all that's kind of important so you know look he's
05:26he's in a very tough situation right now to answer these questions it's it's there's there's
05:32you know they won three games it's hard to spin this positively at all uh so you know he answered
05:37the question the best he could and you know i i do think i do think he hit on some things that have
05:43been okay and and to good with special teams but overall the part of it i can't get over is like
05:49yeah well we just gotta get better defensive passing game it's like well yeah yeah that's kind of
05:53important that's it just those two things we need to get better at uh look frankie i agree with
05:59cause there and i think it's a it's a it's a good way to put it but i'll go back to my first question
06:03that i asked cause as well do you think we've learned what do you think we learned about aaron
06:07glenn considering what cause just laid out about you know those things were the things that the jets
06:11have done well so far and they put an emphasis on special teams but him as a head coach what have
06:16you learned about him so far in his first season i don't know what i've learned from him
06:21specifically but what i have learned overall is it's damn hard to be a head coach in the nfl especially
06:27in new york because if you remember his tone and what he was saying in the offseason um his you know
06:34he had his bravado he was confident you felt like we could maybe roll off you know two three four wins
06:43this could be a seven eight nine win team that's what it felt like to a degree but this is a tough
06:49damn game and it's a tough business and um i think it sort of side swiped him a little bit
06:55right what's the old what's the old saying everyone's got a plan until they get you know
06:59punched in the mouth um uh aaron glenn has shown me that there you have to get everything right
07:09especially when you're the new york jets head coach to be able to be successful your coordinators have
07:13to be the right hires you obviously need the players um and you in in how you do business you
07:20need to change and and i don't think he's adapted enough as a head coach throughout the year that's
07:25really my biggest issue i've learned that he's stubborn if you want something that i've learned
07:29from aaron glenn this year um i think the trade uh uh you know with sauce and quinnon was was was
07:37brilliantly done to a degree so i'll give him credit for that so i think he did backpedal a little bit
07:42there in terms of what he was telling us in a good way but overall outside of that he's just
07:48been a little bit too stubborn in my opinion i think he needs to take a step back in the offseason
07:52and he needs to look at things that didn't work and tell himself that his initial plan wasn't right
07:59as a coach not as a an operator and he's got to fix this thing he doesn't have much time necessarily
08:05might have another year year and a half i think he'll have another year um maybe even more but um i've
08:11just learned that he's he's stubborn and this is a tough business honestly what else what else am i
08:17going to say i mean the special team stuff could even be he did hire chris banjo but i always point
08:22to special teams you get a little bit lucky sometimes a return or two goes your way sometimes
08:27it's just the way the the cards are drawn on special teams i don't know if i'm going to give
08:32him credit for that necessarily however we do give him blame for things that might not be his fault so
08:37you almost can't have it both ways at times it's good to be fair overall cause is right the special
08:42team has been great but i've learned that he's stubborn and uh i think for him to be successful
08:47he's got to be a little bit more flexible in how he thinks about this that is do you think that's a
08:52fair assessment cause and what frankie's saying about stubbornness i actually disagree with frankie
08:57on that one i think he hasn't been stubborn i actually think that's one area he's been good at
09:01because i'll go back i'll hit a couple of them beginning of august he recognized that the kickers that
09:07they chose were no good and they brought nick folk in here and and signed him and that it turned out
09:11to be a really good signing that that worked uh i think they realized their planet defensive tackle
09:16wasn't very good at the end of august and they they made the trades for uh briggs and for phillips
09:22which have been good moves and i know fans i've seen fans kind of want to credit muji for all this
09:27like whenever it's a trading aaron glenn is sorry you know he's involved in all this he's he's yeah
09:33you know muji's working out the details but aaron glenn is a driving force behind this stuff so
09:37there's that then you know you can argue he should have moved off justin fields earlier
09:41but i did think he did move off justin fields he did he did bench him he got there it took a little
09:47while and it kind of was a little wonky because remember yes uh tyrod got hurt before the cincinnati
09:54game and then they had a thursday night game so and then they won a couple games so it kind of got a
09:59little hard to bench him during that period but he did bench him and he moved off of him and then he
10:04fired steve wilkes and that was his hand-picked defensive coordinator and he fired him so you
10:10know to me that was a sign that he wasn't stubborn that he wasn't sitting there going you know what
10:15i'm gonna ride this out i know wilkes is the guy like i know fields is the guy he did get there
10:20um so i i would disagree with that on with with frankie i don't think he's he's been stubborn i think
10:25he's been been actually good and i think that's a good sign because he's gonna have to really
10:29really look at everything this offseason and figure out you know what he needs to do differently
10:34um but yeah i i have a hard time with what i've learned about him ryan just because yeah i i don't
10:42know exactly what i've i'd have to think about that for a while what i've learned about him this
10:45season fair enough uh and i think it's a good discussion either way but just because it is
10:50going to be the focal point until we get to really kicking into draft coverage guys and free agency
10:55of discussing this jets team in this first year aaron glenn because a lot of the stats cause
10:59like you said you can pick out any stat you want a lot of them are bad and and they're all they're
11:04all time bad in terms of where aaron glenn is standing in terms of efficiency epa how this team
11:10has operated it's it's been historically bad and the fact that they're again going into week 18 with
11:16zero interceptions and a guy that built his career on picking the ball off and talked about it it's
11:21crazy that we're in this situation as as fans watching and like not even one interception that's
11:28crazy yeah you know that that one thing i've learned about him i'll give you one thing there is how hands
11:32off he's been with the defense as shocked right like because i've covered obviously a lot of defensive
11:39coaches and some of them have had coordinators that call the defense uh saw i had all brick that
11:45called the defense todd bowles casey rogers called the defense majority of the time rex had
11:50pet and calling the defense at one point dennis thurman another point but they were always like
11:55it was their defense and they were in there and they were like definitely working we talked about
12:00his number from detroit and stuff i've been shocked like it doesn't feel like his defense at all it
12:05doesn't look like he's involved in it at all so you know he's taking the ceo thing to a different
12:11level than i expected i have learned that about him yeah and i think that's gonna say that go ahead
12:16frankie well just to rebut uh cause a little bit he is right with the roster in and in and of itself
12:23how he's been able to change things you know he bench gibson etc he did the cock gibson he did a
12:30bunch of moves throughout the year steve wilks obviously the thing that stubborn what i mean by
12:36stubborn is his approach as a coach i think he's coming from this and maybe that's all he knows with
12:42this rah rah this this i want to be this you know tough guy ceo i'm not gonna get hands on with the
12:48defense i think him as a coach and how he thinks this is gonna get done a la how parcells and al
12:54grow did it years ago that's what i mean by stubborn i i think i didn't hear enough from him throughout
12:59the year where he's talking about things regarding you know schemes and and x's and o's and things that
13:06i think that this team really lacks and i feel like he always came to the podium and kind of said the
13:11same old oh we got to be tougher than them we're gonna focus harder that kind of rhetoric but
13:15maybe that's all he knows and that's why he got hired so yeah i think the scheme is an interesting
13:21uh thing you bring up frankie because and like kai said it doesn't feel like his defense it doesn't
13:27feel like the detroit lions is like his hands are on this defense uh necessarily and and it goes back
13:33to again when you're trying to look at this jets season it didn't go the way we expected right
13:39starting oh and seven before they get their first win uh the fact that justin fields didn't work out
13:45that was his hand-picked quarterback that he wanted he tried to try the experiment it didn't work
13:51uh and and ultimately they just they they're not good in a lot of areas and they're gonna have to
13:57improve so now this begs the question cause because we can only talk so much about this football game
14:02but i do want to ask you heading into this off season there's so much heat around aaron glenn and
14:08and people and jets fans are are off the bandwagon with him like they cannot be more fed up with him
14:14as a head coach here with the jets like yeah i've never that's putting it kindly putting it kindly but
14:19like so i'm trying to be level-headed here because i don't i don't want to be the wfan caller here i want
14:24to ask you yeah as a as a person that that likes that loves this franchise and wants to see this team
14:29succeed the question really remains about aaron glenn is this the right guy is this the guy that
14:35can bring them to that next level we know how they have set themselves up for the future with all the
14:40assets and capital uh cap space that they have but is this the right guy to lead them to that promised
14:47land of being competitive every single year yeah i don't think i i don't know how you could say yes
14:52right now you know they've won three games and like we've said it's you you want to pick out the
14:56interceptions that's that's a crazy stat you want to go with they're not going to have a wide receiver
15:02that has 500 yards you know they're not one receiver that has 500 yards first time since 1976 that's
15:08happened with the jets wow like that's that's insane um and they were running the wishbone in 1976 so
15:15that that's where that's where you're at like i'm sure if you go before that there's a long time
15:19before that so you know i don't see how you can sit here right now and say yes he's the guy that's
15:24going to turn it around on the flip side i don't know you know you can say no i've seen enough but
15:31i do think we need to see a little bit more i do think we need to see if he can get a quarterback
15:36here uh see if he can flip the roster this offseason i mean my feeling is that this roster is going to
15:43be so much different i i mean i think there's probably going to be 20 guys from this team that
15:48here next year something like that like it's going to be i think it's going to be drastic change uh you
15:54know if you look at the guys playing right now yeah like you know if you would take this sunday
15:58starting line how many guys are going to be here next year it's or how many guys are going to be
16:01starting like it's insane so i do think we need to see that um but yeah i can't sit here and say oh
16:07he's the guy i don't know who could right now okay you'd really be your you'd be just be blind faith
16:12there's nothing we've seen that would tell you that yeah would you say for me just because i've been
16:16trying to like it feels like there's two seasons here there was the jets starting oh and seven
16:22reeling off three out of the next four wins right and then or sorry three out of the next five games
16:28they win they win those games and then it was hey we traded away sauce and quinnon this season's
16:34really going down the tubes let's just evaluate what we have here and that really can't be held
16:39against aaron glenn but 23 28 25 point losses those are on your ledger you're not competitive
16:49in these games so yeah is it fair like i guess that's a question he deserves to be criticized for
16:57the 0-7 start right he deserves to be criticized for the the justin field situation he deserves to
17:04be criticized for the steve wilkes hire but does he really deserve all the critique considering this
17:10last court last month of the season yeah has just been really in full tank mode yeah i think it's fair
17:16to criticize him i don't think you can overreact to it i think i think there's been some overreaction
17:20particularly on sunday nights which i understand like everyone that is in the tank crowd it sounds
17:26great until you're watching your team lose 35 to 3 at halftime you know and that's what tanking
17:32looks like it's brady cook is playing quarterback brady cook should not be playing quarterback
17:36right now he's not ready um you have you know you don't have they shut garrett down he probably could
17:42be here they've got guys playing in the secondary that have no business playing right now so it's
17:48ugly um i think it's fair to criticize him it's still his team and it's still going next to his knee
17:53like these like i i've heard this premise i think the badlands guys say the year zero thing i've heard
17:58that from them i don't buy into that at all because i think you know next year if he starts
18:05oh and three we're gonna be oh he's three and 17 as the head coach no one's gonna say i don't but
18:092025 didn't count that was your year zero like that it counts so but i think you have to put it into
18:15context i don't i don't think we can like firing him because they lost 42 to 10 to new england now like
18:21that's like the decision whether to fire him or not was made in october right after oh and seven it was
18:28when they traded sauce and quinnon they said all right we're sticking with this guy we're gonna
18:31we're gonna push to the future um we're looking to the future you're our guy muji's the guy you're
18:37coming back so there was a shift there uh and yeah since i'd say since the miami game you know
18:45it's just been it's been a different season now like you know i think miami i i thought they were
18:50still trying there and then um the fun was jacksonville i think since jacksonville it's been
18:55tank city um so but yeah he doesn't he doesn't get to erase this stuff you know he doesn't get
19:01to like just oh it doesn't count like it counts toward his record frankie your thoughts on what
19:07kaz is saying because i i agree with a lot of you saying right now i do too and um listen the jets
19:13made an organizational move um to basically tank after they traded quinnon and sauce um they made a
19:21move to say when we'll see what happens the next couple games but this isn't a competitive product
19:26this year we're gonna look into the future obviously um the the thing though that's alarming
19:32see you can have two things happening at once in two conversations at the same time you can be rooting
19:37for the tank and losses and also be critical of the coach and the schemes that are happening on sunday
19:44um if you look at jacksonville we spoke about it ryan our post game and i think we touched on it too
19:51with you um or i did um trevor lawrence was on pace to have eight touchdowns nine touchdowns yeah
19:58and they took him out drake may the same thing was on pace to have six or seven touchdowns seven
20:03touchdowns total for a quarterback by the way would tie the nfl record you had two quarterbacks
20:08in the last couple weeks that were on pace to break that record both of them that were you know
20:15they sat them during the third so that's what's alarming to me is like you got this guy chris
20:20harris out there to you know for the for dead basically step in help him out i don't know what
20:26the hell are you doing over there like that's fair yeah because i mean we've seen so many bad seasons
20:31guys and like we've never seen this like the score like like it's like i know like serbia
20:35is this the worst is this the worst season i know it's been a debate like 2020 versus this
20:40season or 96 versus this season but like 2020 they beat the rams in december like they and the
20:47rams yeah so and then they beat the browns and the browns had like no receivers in that game because
20:53of covid but they the browns went to the playoffs but it was like you know i remember they get their
20:57doors blown off by seattle but they were competitive for the most part down the stretch that year
21:02um so yeah this has been a wild stretch and i think the stat is what if if they lose by 23 on
21:09sunday then the first team ever to lose five straight games by 23 points or more like that's
21:14historic stuff so even when you're you know there's plenty of bad teams out there um but yeah so i think
21:20it's fair to be to i think it's fair to criticize them for sure i just don't think it's fire them
21:26because this right fire them because 42 to 10 i think that this i think if you wanted to fire them
21:30you had to do that off of 0 and 7 you had to make that decision then and if you were on both the
21:36board then fine you know but i think flipping now to being like oh this is the reason to fire them
21:41isn't isn't quite right well i think uh well a lot of jets fans are pointing back to causes is the fact
21:47that all these things that caught that that's leading to aaron glenn's first season it's a lot of
21:52what one and done head coaches look like right now where the stats that he's putting up the records
21:57that he has these are this is what a lot of one and done coaches look like right now yeah i would
22:02say one thing about that and i you know i can't go through every one and done i don't remember all
22:07of them but a lot of times it's a toxic situation and that isn't the case here that i've sensed i
22:12don't sense that the organization is coming apart at the seams like urban meyer comes to mind right
22:17like that was crisis mode one and done get rid of him um so you know he didn't finish the season
22:26frank right felt like that in carolina too like things were falling apart and so you know i i
22:33could be wrong maybe it's behind the scenes that i don't know about but i don't get the sense that
22:36this building is crumbling here right now and i think that's oftentimes what leads to one and done
22:42more than the on the field results and i think i know people thought about gerard mayo that to me is
22:48a complete unique situation where they did that because they knew they could get mike brable and i'm not
22:55sure gerard mayo would have been fired if other than that if it wasn't for brable being available
22:58yep i i i understand what you're saying and i and i it's just uh we never thought it was going to be
23:07like this i think for the first year for aaron glenn three and four we're looking we're staring at a
23:11barrel three and fourteen um and and this is are you really that surprised though ryan like like
23:16let's call it like i've heard this a bunch now to start the season oh and seven frankie i did not see
23:20that but i'm saying the year ending like we're a three or four win team it's wasn't the craziest
23:25thing in the world right i mean like people like i couldn't believe it vegas had is that what five
23:30and a half six and a half wins yeah yeah it's not i mean i don't know i but i think it i think it's
23:36i think it's looked worse i think it's looked worse frankie yes anyone expected yeah no that it has
23:41for sure yeah they don't have any advantage schematically on the field besides special teams
23:48that's the only place where they look better and what's you know one thing you've had with the
23:53jets as bad as it's been at times is like they pull like this strange win out of nowhere so like
24:002021 that season was terrible right they're four and 13 worst defense in the nfl they beat the
24:06bangles and they give you the mike white game and the bangles went to the freaking super bowl here so
24:10like like that's crazy uh 23 they beat the eagles out of like the eagles were undefeated they beat the
24:16eagles like out of nowhere it was zach wilson at quarterback you know there's these strange
24:21wins that they've had they haven't had any of that this year like the teams they beat you know i guess
24:27the falcons now look like an incredible win yeah they're playing better that win makes no sense at
24:33all yeah but you know they they beat cincinnati with flacco and that was a miracle win they beat
24:38cleveland with dylan gabriel because they had two kick returns you know in that game and then atlanta
24:42in a rainstorm you know so but like none of these are we're not gonna be talking about any of these
24:47games in five years you know like it's so that part of it too has been like i don't know what you hang
24:53your hat on off of this season for for aaron there was not one signature win uh among the bunch no and
24:59that's again it goes part of the it goes back into what i originally asked you guys about what did we
25:05learn from aaron glenn in his first year you don't really hang your hat on anything with him besides
25:08special teams um i think the answer to ryan is not much right not much that's a problem i think
25:14we go into 2026 really not knowing what aaron glenn is which is which is tough it's very tough
25:21and the other thing we want to bring now is the future right like they're sitting currently in the
25:25third spot in the draft order if you look at nfl tank-a-thon uh we saw what happened last week with
25:31the ultimate tank-a-thon game between the giants and raiders the raiders ultimately lost that game
25:36we saw what they're doing they're full tank mode as well by sitting max crosby who wants to play
25:40and and now they're locked in looks like the number one pick they're most likely going to be
25:45looking at that quarterback spot fernando mendoza's name is constantly being mentioned there
25:49because we don't know the rest of the quarterback crop coming out for this draft and we know that
25:54this all starts with the quarterback position for the offseason there are questions surrounding
25:59aaron glenn and the development of the quarterback spot because who he has in that in that room right
26:05now tanner angstrand a first-time play caller who has not done anything to basically say yeah he we
26:12got the guy there calling plays he's done nothing to show that and the other thing is charles london a
26:16running backs coach who really has not shown any history of developing a quarterback and i have to
26:21again go back to aaron glenn's history in detroit with the lions they already had an established
26:28quarterback in jared goff and if you want to credit any great seasons with goff you really have to give
26:33that to the guy who's currently leading number two seed in the nfc ben johnson who is there as the
26:38offensive coordinator so there is no history here with aaron glenn and proving he can develop a
26:43quarterback it goes into my question of can we trust him to pick the right quarterback and evaluate
26:50the quarterback spot to bring that guy in yeah i get it but i think there's probably a lot of examples
26:56of guys who like didn't have a history developing a quarterback had success with court like did bill
27:02belichick develop a quarterback before tom brady like no cleveland didn't have any star quarterbacks
27:07when he was there he inherited bernie cozar he had vinnie you know and then he got bled so so i'm not i
27:13don't buy into the development thing as much ryan like because to me development's a tricky word i think
27:21you have to surround the guy with really good players i think you have to call good plays but
27:25like i think you either have it or you don't from what i've seen and then it's your situation then
27:32kind of dictates what you can do out of that situation like i think sam had it sam had it
27:36right like we saw sam in the first but they didn't but develop develops a tricky word they didn't they
27:43gave him jermaine curse and robbie anderson as his wide receivers they they they had bad play
27:48calling here they had terrible offensive linemen here so that's why sam didn't click here and i
27:52think sam then goes to san francisco is on a good team learned like you know he had this time to learn
27:59minnesota he's got justin jefferson jordan addison kevin o'connell like development's a tricky word for
28:06me but i think i do think angstrand was in detroit so he did see the ben johnson stuff i i think
28:12i don't think angstrand did a bad job this year i think he had all like i don't know what he could
28:17have done his quarterback play was absolutely horrible and that's maybe you could say that's
28:21on him but i don't know if i put that on him and he lost his best player in october i think we all
28:28sat here in august and i said garrett wilson is going to play seven game what do you play seven
28:32games something like that well we would have said oh boy they're in trouble like we really like he was
28:40the one player this team couldn't lose and they lost him so i do think that's part of the
28:44angstrand equation i wouldn't be surprised if they make a change at quarterback coach that
28:48wouldn't shock me um you know so you could get somebody in here who maybe is a more established
28:55quarterback coach for next year i can see them maybe they go down the senior assistant route
29:00and bring somebody in here to help angstrand along like sort of what they tried to do with
29:04greg knapp with zach wilson i can see that happening so i i don't think i think we need to let the next
29:10few weeks play out before we know exactly what that picture looks like ryan but like
29:13yeah the core the development of quarterbacks i struggle with i do yes like did drake may
29:21get developed yeah with josh mcdaniels with josh mcdaniels he was pretty good last year too like
29:26you know he was pretty good last year he there was i think we said they have a quarterback we knew
29:32they had a quarterback we didn't think he was going to be this good but like yeah but like the but
29:36that's but is that development or is that play it's you're you're developing it's different but
29:40you're so here's the thing you're developing development to me is like you're holding his
29:43hand and like teaching him how to play quarterback like i think these guys either have it or they don't
29:48you're developing a pro style offense around him though right so like i hear you on the surrounding
29:52pieces those have to be good but at the same time you like you said you have to have the right
29:56play caller and you have to have the right quarterback coach in the room helping harness that
30:00quarterback and saying this is what you need to focus on here's your concepts here's our route
30:04concepts here's where our tree is here's your reads here's your signals here's what you need
30:08to make adjustments the line of scrimmage when you're calling plays when you're caught when you're
30:11calling the line of scrimmage protection those things go into this and that's to me i think
30:15there's a lot of kids coming out now and i think frankie would agree with this they come in raw and
30:19they're not developed there so sam darnell was not developed there and i think what i'm trying to
30:23say is is like trevor lawrence is seeing his best season ever under liam cohen liam cohen's giving
30:28him a structure in his system that he this isn't his best season ever he's looked pretty damn good
30:33his last six games his first season with his first season with doug peterson look at the numbers i
30:38understand the numbers but at the same time on the field when you watch trevor lawrence this is the
30:42best we've seen him play the same thing i would say about uh the way that that that might be the
30:48best team he's on but i would say the same thing with drake may it's the same team but like
30:52they've developed him this year with with josh they got digs they brought digs in but coaching
30:58matters is what i'm trying to say though i'm not saying it doesn't matter i'm not saying it doesn't
31:01matter i think we overemphasize the development thing though i think it's i like i think zach
31:07wilson could have bill walsh and you know josh mcdaniels and sean mcveigh and kyle shanahan all in the
31:14same room and zach wilson's still gonna be zach wilson like it just wasn't gonna happen there i don't
31:19think you can just develop a quote i think i i think there's more innate ability that goes into
31:25it then uh and then i think it's then it's who you surround them with and play calling is a big
31:30part of it i'm not diminishing play calling i'm more diminishing like what you can do with them
31:36in terms of teaching them the position i think it's a little bit but i think more they either they
31:40either got it or they don't yeah i mean look i'm watching i'm watching kevin o'connell win games
31:45with no-name quarterbacks i think it i think coaching matters yeah but because their defense
31:49because their defense played i know but he also it's just it there is a point in time where and
31:55jj mccarthy has he not developed jj mccarthy then jj mccarthy might not have that it's a combo right
32:01there's no there's no all 108 ability all 100 just the coaching i agree you need both of that and
32:08that's why i'm trying to say if aaron glenn like he said he's the ceo he's picking the quarterback here
32:13so yeah do i trust him picking the quarterback frankie do you trust him
32:17i'll say this right to answer that question um not yes but also not no and let me explain why
32:26when i look at good hedge you you like that answer uh maybe yes maybe no maybe maybe yes maybe no
32:37uh i'll say this when it comes to developing a quarterback i think you have to pull the
32:42right levers with the quarterback for example look at what dave canalis did with bryce young
32:47he had to bench bryce young to wake him up a little bit hey man wake up in there kind of i'm putting
32:52your back against the wall if this doesn't work out again you might not be a starter wake up man
32:57you might need to go in and sit down with them and go through x's and o's which i don't think glenn's
33:02going to do by the way um and then in game your plan in game needs to fit the quarterback sometimes
33:08where i worry with defensive guys specifically is don't turn the ball over let's just you know
33:14get to run the ball robert sala race to 20 kind of kind of rhetoric um so i think it's a there's
33:22there's a few different elements there when you're developing a quarterback cause is right ultimately
33:26you either got it or you don't but some guys are like on the cusp of of being uh able to be
33:33starters like a bryce young bryce young i don't think if he had canalis there doing what he did
33:39gotta be a little bit of a wizard in a way pull the right levers and you might be able to see that
33:45quarterback through and reach somewhat of their potential um but yeah it's tough with glenn i don't
33:53think glenn's gonna ruin a quarterback i don't i don't because why i don't think he's gonna get that
33:56involved in the scheme and i don't think his game plan is gonna be like so much of what we hate with
34:05defensive guys about running the ball and like this rex ryan style of playing offense i think he's
34:10gonna do what the offensive coordinator wants him to do like i really do so if the offensive
34:14coordinator is right and the quarterback room looks good or you have a veteran in there i always think
34:19it's important to have a lot of veterans or a few veterans in that quarterback room just to sit down
34:24and devise game plans and speak to the rookie you're sitting right next to the guy you're looking
34:28at the same boards you know they can help you a bunch so um i would like a guy like kurt cousins
34:34for example in this room i think it would help i don't think he would come here and i don't think it
34:38makes sense actually financially but regardless i don't think glenn i don't think it's a sure thing
34:43that he's gonna ruin a kid but do i think he's gonna liam cohen a guy absolutely not like there's
34:50guys like sean mcveigh kyle shanahan even mike mcdaniel there's a bunch of coaches in this league
34:55that would do a better job of sitting down and and and providing the right coaching around
35:02structure quarterback and structure i don't think glenn's gonna be too too much of a detriment i think
35:08rex ryan his personality is arguably more of a detriment to a quarterback than aaron glenn aaron
35:13glenn will let the oc do what they want to do he's gonna be in the middle kind of raw ryan things
35:18keeping the roster right because that's part of his job um and if the oc's good the quarterback
35:25could develop if not we're kind of screwed so i i don't know i don't know if that makes any sense
35:30yeah it makes sense frankie and i hear you on both sides uh ultimately cause if the jets end up at the
35:36number three pick let's say they lose this game against buffalo and they end up at that third spot
35:41um i do you believe that pick will be all in with the i mean i know it might be too early but
35:46they got to be taking a quarterback there at three right i think so right now i mean it's
35:52january 2nd we're doing this so there is a long way to go before the draft and things are going
35:57to fluctuate and things but yeah i right now i think they have to i just i like i've said this
36:03before on here though there's going to be pressure on them to win next season and i don't see how you
36:08kick the can down the road uh to to the following season on the quarterback you know unless they really
36:14don't like any of them but i think you know i think somebody's going to emerge here as the number
36:19two quarterback at this draft and that that's probably where they're going to end up going
36:22listen i i hope and i and i am pleading with aaron glenn to hopefully listen to what cause just said
36:28and hopefully they bring in some veteran experience and in terms of and a senior assistant or advisor
36:35into that quarterback room because i just right now i don't believe in charles london i don't believe
36:41in tanner angstrand right now because i haven't seen enough in my opinion to say yeah that's the
36:45guy and i hear you the search situation and circumstances will give you the results but at
36:50the same time there's nothing schematically that i've looked at and said that that guy is x's and
36:54o's way above everyone else and that's going to lead us to to victory so that's where i am at right
36:59now in terms of the quarterback position we'll have plenty of discussions in the offseason after this
37:03last game to talk about the quarterback position finally guys we have the week 18 game there
37:08are no player props available on any of the sports books right now because there are so many guys
37:13going in and out of the lineup we don't know who's playing we know the two quarterbacks
37:16in trubisky and cook but they have not given us any other props so i don't have any over-unders for
37:22you guys in terms of this player prop that player prop so we're gonna have to finish the season so
37:28that's what i'm about to tell you so the over-unders right now we have finished after frankie went
37:32six and all last week come on whoa yes i got two weeks ago against the saints frankie finishes with
37:39a record of 51 and 52 one game under 500 he was on your heels cause because you finished three and
37:46three two weeks ago and you are 52 and 45 how does that work the math i don't know how that math works

40:26the game that everyone is dying to watch at 425 on sunday 425 uh look i i get it mitch trubisky but
40:36the jets i don't know how you could pick the jets against anyone right now um you know indiana i think
40:43would would probably be a favorite over the jets at this point so i'm gonna go bills i don't think
40:49it's gonna be a blowout because i think trubisky like i don't think the bills are gonna have their foot

41:47going to come out with their hair on fire i think erin glenn's been hearing a lot of things i think

42:07isn't the worst case situation in the world um i think the jets are going to beat the bills i don't want

42:18season it's hilarious they need to make a sitcom about this this this jet season there's to be like

43:17brady cook is not a starting quarterback i don't even think he's a backup quarterback at this point
43:21he has no business being on the field that's still a bills defense that will dominate him
43:26i think the jets are going to look very lifeless again on all sides of the ball besides special teams
43:31which i'm sure they'll probably get a kick return from isaiah williams that'll be awesome but at the
43:35end of the mvp the mvp the team mvp that's right i saw you tweet that that was cool amazing a guy
43:40only mvp that was cut yeah and he wasn't on the team to start the season crazy they signed him in
43:46week two actually that's one positive for the jets uh so look is it a positive i don't know i don't
43:53your kick returner that you signed in week two is your mvp look i don't know anymore all i know is
43:59is that this game is going to be ugly if you're watching this game shame on you uh all you should
44:05be watching is the espn app and seeing the score as long as the jets are losing the tank is going on
44:10because the jets do need that top three pick they need to be in that conversation of picking a
44:14quarterback this is the future of their franchise don't be irresponsible don't win this game this
44:19weekend there's no reason to mess it up because if you do mess it up then we really have questions
44:23about you as a coach but i think from jermaine johnson speaking after the game last week and
44:28aaron glenn's backtracking comments like he's backtracked on a lot of things this year uh he's
44:33kind of lost the locker room a little bit here and i think they're done with him so i think they're
44:36ready to mail it in everyone's already shipped their cars down south the jets are going to lose
44:40this game to the bills 17 to 3 i got bills over jets uh the jets offense doesn't do anything well
44:47especially in the cold uh against this buffalo bills team that's a season show season long show
