00:00Hello boys, happy Victory Monday.
00:02Oh my god, no, no, no, don't, no, no, no, do not put this up, no, I disavow this.
00:08What?
00:09Oh, the poll is up.
00:10Hold on, you guys, get a stupid, no, this is dumb.
00:13Let the record show play the audio.
00:14I did not demand the poll to be put up.
00:16Alright, no.
00:17I did not, at any point.
00:18Right now, it's on 923 The Fan.
00:21Don't put this up.
00:22John, do you have the password for our poll?
00:24Daryl, they're fighting right now because last segment,
00:27last segment, Anthony Lima wanted to entertain talking about bringing Deshaun,
00:32or sorry, Cam Ward here next season.
00:34Well, it was just, it was, it was something that was brought up pre-game
00:39about whether this was a tryout for next year.
00:42Really well, and considering they fell behind 14-0
00:47and were able to rally back multiple times, yeah,
00:54and that last drive was, you know, impressive.
00:5758 seconds on the clock, get into field goal range,
01:00kick the, not just get a field goal attempt off,
01:04for it to be basically a chip shot attempt at 32 yards.
01:09I, you know, I thought Deshaun played really well yesterday.
01:13Well, Daryl, he came back from the interception,
01:16and what were your thoughts immediately when you saw that interception?
01:20I don't think you had the network feed, or did you?
01:22Were you listening to...
01:23No, I had the TV on in the office.
01:27Okay, so you heard Logan Ryan immediately defend Watson
01:30and say it was on the young wide receiver,
01:32but what did you think when you saw that INT,
01:35and then they're down 14, nothing before you know it?
01:37Well, I mean, I thought we were going to have a repeat
01:41of the Jets game for a minute.
01:45Then once they tied it up at 14,
01:48I was convinced that they were going to win the game.
01:50But when they started down 14, nothing, I was like,
01:53okay, this is unfortunately going to be another one of those Sundays
01:57where, you know, the Browns are going to remind us
02:01that they have some growing to do.
02:03But nope, they came back and won the game.
02:07And look, that's what matters right now,
02:09is that they're winning these games that they,
02:11in the past, would have lost.
02:15Like, that's a real big difference.
02:16And I think Todd Munkin deserves a lot of credit for that.
02:20One of my favorite moments in that game
02:24was after the Titans punter got hurt
02:28and they were sending their place kicker out
02:31to punt for the first time since high school.
02:34And special teams had 12 men on the field
02:36to give the Titans a first down.
02:38You saw they cut to Todd Munkin
02:41and he was given special teams coordinator Byron Storer
02:44near full on the sideline.
02:46And it didn't last long.
02:48Todd made his point
02:49and moved on and refocused to
02:53what he needed to be focusing on on the field.
02:57And the reason I liked that moment so much
02:59was because we're just not used to seeing that
03:02from a Browns head coach.
03:04And it wasn't anything all that demonstrative.
03:08You could tell Todd was upset.
03:10He said what he needed to say
03:12and they moved on.
03:13And, you know, it was visible accountability
03:17in the span of a game.
03:18You know, Kevin Stefanski probably would have just stood there
03:20and shrugged his shoulders and said,
03:21OK, we've got to be better, Byron.
03:22And then just, you know, moved on with his day.
03:25I like seeing that emotion from Todd Munkin
03:29and seeing that filter down through the team.
03:35I think that's, you know, a big difference.
03:37And these players have really latched on to that.
03:40And they respond to him.
03:41They respond to this coaching staff.
03:44So they're 5-2.
03:45They're in first place.
03:47All five wins are of the fourth quarter.
03:50Nail-biting, game-winning drive variety.
03:52But who are we to complain?
03:54I do think there's a difference
03:55because it's locked in.
03:56And listen, you know, Lyme and I had a good relationship with Kevin.
03:59I'm not going to sit here and throw Kevin under the bus.
04:01I think Kevin's a good man.
04:03But, you know, what you saw on Sundays was in so many ways,
04:07like, yeah, he chuckled here and there a little bit,
04:10but what you saw on Sundays was in so many ways who he was.
04:14And I do think that Todd can lock in during a football game
04:18but is also able to possess people skills
04:22outside of calling and managing a football game.
04:26And I think with this team, it's very important.
04:28And I think we've seen a bit of a difference here
04:30in the camaraderie of the football team
04:32and being able to trust one another
04:33and then trust their football coach.
04:35Yeah, 100%.
04:38And I think it's fair to say that, you know,
04:40both sides needed to go their own ways after last season.
04:44Like, that's fine.
04:45Kevin's doing fine down in Atlanta.
04:48You know, unfortunately, the quarterback thing
04:50seems to be following him.
04:52But, you know, I think that both sides just needed to change
04:56and it's worked out for both sides.
04:59Yeah, it is interesting.
05:00Daryl, had the Browns have lost the game,
05:03we would have been all over that moment.
05:05But because they won, that was the first time it got brought up.
05:08So thank you for bringing it to the show.
05:10Not to mention we would have brought up,
05:11oh, the Browns came in as the most penalized team in the NFL.
05:14Like, nobody is using that against Todd Munkin this year
05:18because I think we had lower expectations
05:21and what he's gotten out of Deshaun Watson to this point.
05:25And now you've got young pass catchers getting in this scheme,
05:30feeling more comfortable like yesterday.
05:32The arrow's pointing up.
05:34Yeah, no, you're absolutely right.
05:37I mean, you're thinking about the fact that this is an imperfect team.
05:43You know, they're playing from behind pretty much every week.
05:47And again, it would be nice if they would stop doing that
05:50and make life easy on folks that are watching these games.
05:55But they're not.
05:56And, you know, they're putting themselves in situations
05:59that typically, yes, they would lose.
06:01And they're not losing these games.
06:03They're finding ways to win.
06:06And you bring up the penalties.
06:07You're right.
06:08That is still something that has to be cleaned up.
06:12Okay.
06:12Now, we've had parts of this season where they've been better
06:16with the penalties, right?
06:17Early on, the offensive line, we're racking up penalties left and right.
06:22And then those started to die down a little bit.
06:24And then the defense started to get a bunch of flags.
06:27But, yeah, they are still one of the most penalized teams in the NFL.
06:35Yesterday, flagged eight more times.
06:37These are accepted penalties, by the way.
06:40Cost them 48 yards.
06:42Yeah.
06:42They got to clean that up.
06:44You know, Deshaun Watson played one of his best games, in my view,
06:48as a Cleveland Brown.
06:49Was he perfect?
06:49No.
06:50Are there things that he needs to clean up?
06:52Sure.
06:53I mean, he could have really had a heck of a day statistically
06:58if Casey Concepcion is able to haul in that 48-yard touchdown
07:03that went through his hands.
07:04But, and again, typically that mistake comes back to bite the Browns
07:09in the backside and cost them football games.
07:11Not the case yesterday.
07:12They still were able to overcome that mistake and win.
07:15The Denzel Boston route, a mistake that typically cost them a game.
07:20Nope.
07:21They overcome that mistake.
07:22They win the football game.
07:23So, like, that's what I'm looking at with this team.
07:26They're not a finished product by any stretch of the imagination.
07:28Todd Munkin is 100% right when he's doing these victory speeches
07:32and he's talking about, hey, we haven't even scratched the surface
07:35of what we can be and our potential and things like that.
07:38Because it's true.
07:39Like, they're 5-2, still not playing their best football
07:45and putting themselves in position to lose games and finding ways to win.
07:50Again, I've kind of equated it to what we see year in and year out
07:55from the Pittsburgh Steelers.
07:56And I think that, from my standpoint, that's my way of giving them a compliment.
08:00They're doing what fans have been griping about for them to do.
08:04And that is find ways to win games when you're not at your best.
08:08Just find a way to win the game.
08:10And that's what they have done time and time again
08:12through seven weeks of this season.
08:14So, good for them.
08:15The dangerous one, Daryl Ryder, joining us here on the show.
08:18So, I don't want to turn the page too, too quickly
08:21because I'm still basking in the glory of this.
08:23And I, you know, for the first time, and I think a long time,
08:26I can't remember when I trusted them when they were down 14-0.
08:30Yeah.
08:31Isn't it incredible?
08:33Again, like, once they scored the first touchdown, it was 14-7.
08:36I'm like, all right, they got the thing back on the track.
08:39So, it'll just be a matter of time before they catch up to these guys
08:41and blow by them.
08:42Like, it's just not a doubt in my mind.
08:45They're earning the right to believe in what they're doing.
08:49And the typical skepticism that even I have watching them at times,
08:53it's kind of going away because there's no reason to be skeptical.
08:58They are turning these games around.
09:01And it's a team effort.
09:03It's not just one player.
09:04The running game yesterday, vastly improved.
09:08And Munkin said after him, that's what it's supposed to look like.
09:11Thanks, Todd.
09:12We're aware.
09:13Quinshawn Judkins was fantastic.
09:1517 carries, 96 yards, a couple of touchdowns.
09:18The return of Dylan Sampson was huge.
09:21He ran for over 40 yards.
09:23And then he had, you know, a couple of catches as well.
09:27You know, Harold Fannin Jr.
09:29talking about getting him back involved again.
09:31Well, lo and behold, there you go.
09:33Six catches, 81 yards, and the biggest one coming there
09:37toward the end of the game that got him into field goal range.
09:40Jerry Judy had four catches yesterday, right?
09:44Without having to be a featured player.
09:46So, I mean, this is a balanced effort.
09:48And then you look at the defense.
09:50Goal line stand.
09:51You know, not a great day for the defense yesterday,
09:53but they got a key goal line stand.
09:56Yes, they gave up the tying touchdown with less than a minute to play.
10:00That was unfortunate.
10:02But Denzel Ward, you know, dislocated pinky, got stitches in the hand,
10:08comes up with an interception, right?
10:11They created a couple of turnovers after the Browns ended up giving up
10:17a couple of turnovers.
10:19So, despite their warts, they're finding ways.
10:23And I think if you're a Browns fan, you should be really, really excited
10:27about this football team right now.
10:31Daryl, I thank you very much for the time.
10:33You got anything else over there, Tone?
10:35Our boss wanted him to formally weigh in on who's more likely to be here next year.
10:40I'll probably say Deshaun Watson.
10:43Because if this keeps going, they're probably going to re-sign Deshaun Watson.
10:47How does it work, by the way?
10:49Like, how do you – because you can't tag him, correct?
10:53Correct.
10:54Okay.
10:54So, you just – I know there's the $200 million poison pill in the contract
10:58that all but guarantees he's going to be released,
11:01but you just rewrite all that language.
11:03You just – hey, you know, it's simple legalese.
11:06This agreement supersedes any previous agreements.
11:09This is what it is, and there you go.
11:11It's not difficult to do, but there is a deadline on that.
11:13Letigious Daryl, Tone.
11:14I like letigious Daryl.
11:15There we are.
11:16You don't want him on your bad side.
11:18No, you don't.
11:19But there's a deadline to this.
11:21I forget the date.
11:22It's in early March, okay?
11:24But, yeah, I think it's more likely if this continues
11:28and Deshaun keeps playing the way he's playing,
11:30I think it's more likely than not that he'll be the quarterback
11:33for this team in 2027.
11:36All right.
11:36Daryl Ryder.
11:37Daryl, thank you very much for the time.
11:39I'm still shocked you wanted Cam Ward.
11:42What?
11:42Now?
11:42Wait, wait, wait, wait.
11:43What are you talking about?
11:44What are you talking about?
11:45Lima.
11:46Oh, no, he didn't want Cam Ward.
11:48He wanted to talk about it, and today's not the day.
11:51Yeah, no, it's not the day.
11:52No.
11:52What the hell are you doing?
11:53Well, we just played him.
11:54If you're scouting him, you just played pretty well against him.
11:58You were that impressed, huh?
11:59You only bring it up if things are going to hell later on,
12:02and then you sit there and go, hey, remember when we played Cam Ward?
12:05You know, he's pretty damn good, and they didn't lose because of him.
12:07That's what you say, but you don't say it the day after they beat him.
12:11And it's right now the poll that's up on X.
12:14Which I did not put up.
12:15No, none of us on the show did that.
12:17I disavowed it.
12:18It says, Ken Carman tells Sports Boy Tony that he would like to know
12:21if there's unfair to ask whether it's more likely Deshaun Watson or Cam Ward
12:25will be the Browns starting quarterback next season.
12:28Right now, Deshaun is winning that.
12:29I've distanced myself from that post.
12:33I've distanced myself from it.
12:35Goodbye, Daryl.
12:36Bye-bye.
12:36Daryl Ryder.
12:37Daryl's brought to you by?
12:38Shive and Jewelers, Cleveland's premier jewelry store.
12:41I trust the Browns for the first time since even before 2023.
12:45I can't believe I'm saying it.
12:47Coming up in five on The Fan.
