00:13Welcome to MojoPlays, and today we're taking a look at 10 of the creepiest levels in non-horror
00:19games for the PlayStation 2. Let's get spooky.
00:32Before we begin, we publish new content all week long, so be sure to subscribe and ring
00:36the bell to be notified about our latest videos.
00:41The Lair of the Beast, Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus.
00:45What's with this industrial-strength voodoo gate?
00:49Ms. Ruby must really be trying to keep something out.
00:54Or maybe she's trying to keep something in.
00:57Who knew a cartoon raccoon's platforming adventure could be so creepy?
01:02Well, in the Lair of the Beast, Sly Cooper ventures into a murky, foreboding environment filled
01:07with an eerie atmosphere, treacherous pathways, and the unsettling feeling that something nasty
01:12is lurking just out of sight.
01:14Spoiler alert, there is.
01:16The contrast between the game's colorful, cell-shaded art style and the level's sinister
01:21setting makes the whole experience feel like a spooky storybook brought to life.
01:25It might not be a horror game, sure, but this stage definitely proves that even a lighthearted
01:30stealth platformer can deliver a wonderfully creepy change of pace.
01:43Moon of the Dead and Vos' Lair, Star Wars Bounty Hunter.
01:58Star Wars Bounty Hunter might be all about tracking down targets and blasting your way
02:03through the galaxy, but these two stages take things into some seriously unsettling territory.
02:08The Moon of the Dead lives up to its ominous name, with a grim atmosphere that feels worlds
02:13away from the franchise's usual swashbuckling sci-fi adventures, while Vos' Lair brings
02:19players face to face with the disturbing hideout of the deranged Dark Jedi Komare Vosa.
02:24Between the creepy surroundings, hostile enemies, and the unnerving sense that Jango Fett has wandered
02:30into something far more sinister than just an ordinary bounty hunt, these levels deliver a
02:35darker side of the Star Wars universe. The Moon of the Dead is especially memorable for its eerie,
02:40glowing-eyed Bandogora cultists and its ancient graveyard setting, while Vos' Lair pushes the
02:46creepiness further, with shadowy, crypt-like passages and a hostile cult guarding the way to their leader.
02:59STAGE 11 HANG CASTLE SONIC HEROES
03:11Who says a Sonic game can't get spooky, right? Well, HANG CASTLE sends Sonic and friends racing through a
03:18massive, topsy-turvy, haunted-looking fortress, filled with gloomy corridors, eerie architecture,
03:23floating platforms, and ghostly surprises that make this stage feel like something straight out
03:28of a Halloween special. Things get even stranger when the castle's supernatural gimmicks turn the
03:34environment upside down, forcing players to navigate its twisting architecture while dealing with creepy
03:39enemies lurking around every corner. With its ominous atmosphere, the haunting music, and playful,
03:45ghostly tricks, HANG CASTLE is a wonderfully spooky detour in a series better known for
03:50colorful landscapes and high-speed action, rather than haunted houses.
03:58Not bad! What? What's going on?
04:01The castle ripped upside down!
04:05SPOOKY FORREST SHREK 2
04:08Are you done yet?
04:10You smell the monsters!
04:16SPOOKY FORREST SHREK 2
04:16Heck, even a fairytale comedy like Shrek 2 has room for a little bit of nightmare fuel,
04:21and the spooky forest level delivers exactly that. Trading the bright, cheerful scenery of the kingdom
04:27for twisted trees, shadowy woodland paths, and a decidedly more sinister atmosphere, this stage feels
04:34like the sort of place where fairytale creatures go when they want to give someone a fright. The creepy
04:39setting is made all the more amusing by the fact that Shrek and his companions are still cracking on,
04:44with their usual action-packed adventure, even as the surroundings look ready to host a ghost story.
04:50Now, it may not be particularly terrifying by horror game standards, of course,
04:54but this eerie woodland is a memorable reminder that even DreamWorks' funniest
04:59fairy tales can take a creepy turn, or two, or three.
05:11Hey, no need to be spooked, our 24-7 gaming livestream has loads of awesome content.

05:19Paths of the Dead, The Lord of the Rings, Return of the King.
05:23This is where the dead gather. It is a place of great evil.
05:29No matter the peril, we must cross this!
05:32Most action games let you fight living enemies, but Lord of the Rings, The Return of the King sends
05:37Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli straight into a supernatural nightmare with the Paths of the Dead level.
05:43This gloomy underground passage is filled with ghostly warriors, spectral green light,
05:48and shadowy ruins that make every step feel like a journey into the underworld.
05:52The army of the dead emerges from the darkness in waves, creating an eerie atmosphere that stands
05:57in stark contrast to the game's otherwise epic hack-and-slash battles. With its haunted tunnels,
06:03and an entire army of restless spirits standing between the heroes and their destination,
06:06this level is proof that Middle-Earth can be every bit as chilling as it is heroic.
06:21Level 7 Homer, The Simpsons Hit and Run
06:31Springfield essentially turns into Halloweentown during this final section of the game,
06:35game, replete with ghosts, skeletons, witches, pumpkins, and aliens galore.
06:39For a game that spends most of its time poking fun at suburban life, The Simpsons Hit and Run takes
06:45a surprisingly unsettling turn in its final chapter, Level 7, where players take control
06:50of Homer during Springfield's full-blown alien conspiracy crisis. The mysterious black van's
06:56creepy surveillance and sinister extraterrestrial plot gives the familiar town a distinctly paranoid
07:01atmosphere, and super gloomy one at that, as the whole adventure's bizarre events finally begin
07:06to make sense, somewhat. While the game's cartoon humor is still firmly intact, for sure,
07:11the idea of an alien invasion unfolding in the middle of an otherwise ordinary Springfield
07:16makes this chapter feel like a strange sci-fi thriller, during Halloween time, hiding inside of
07:22a comedy game. Now, it isn't exactly nightmare material, but between the eerie conspiracy and the
07:27feeling that something has been seriously wrong with Springfield all along, Homer's final outing
07:32is considerably creepier than you'd initially expect.
07:35Sweet acceleration. Oh, like no. Hasta la vista, souls.
07:42The important thing is I'm not imagining these guys. Coming through.
07:47Theme Park Circus Tent, Scooby Doo Unmasked.
08:00A creepy circus is practically a recipe for nightmares, right? And Scooby Doo Unmasked makes
08:05great use of that very idea in its Theme Park Circus Tent level. Beneath the colorful decorations
08:11and carnival atmosphere lurks a much more unsettling setting, where strange sights, dangerous obstacles,
08:17and suspicious characters kind of just make the whole place feel like a funhouse gone wrong.
08:22It's the perfect environment for Scooby and the gang, whose adventures have always thrived on
08:26turning seemingly innocent attractions into spooky mysteries packed with surprises.
08:31Although the game leans into cartoonish platforming rather than outright horror, of course,
08:35with the goal here in the stage being to rescue Daphne, the circus setting taps into that classic fear
08:41of clowns, creepy carnival attractions, and whatever might be waiting around the next curtain.
08:46Beware, the big top beckons.
08:59Castle Frightmare Ape Escape 2
09:10Let's do it!
09:11Ape Escape 2 is best known for its zany, monkey-catching antics, but Castle Frightmare
09:16proves that even a colorful platformer can have a delightfully creepy side. As its name suggests,
09:22this spooky stage trades sunny scenery for a macabre castle atmosphere, complete with eerie
09:27surroundings, shadowy corners, and the sort of supernatural surprises that you'd expect from a
09:32classic haunted house adventure. The contrast between the game's goofy humor and the castle's spooky
09:37aesthetic makes exploring its corridors a particularly fun experience, especially when you're busy
09:43chasing mischievous monkeys around. It never takes itself too seriously, but Castle Frightmare still
09:48delivers the perfect blend of Halloween-style atmosphere and playful platforming that makes
09:53it stand out among the game's many, many imaginative stages.
10:09Raise the dead, plus save Nolens, New Orleans' Tony Hawk's Underground 2.
10:23Tony Hawk's Underground 2 is all about outrageous skateboarding, ridiculous stunts,
10:28and ludicrous mischief and mayhem. So you probably wouldn't expect it to suddenly transform into a
10:33zombie nightmare, or maybe you would. But that's exactly what happens during the Raise the Dead
10:38portion and the Save Nolens portion of New Orleans stage, where the skateboarding antics take a
10:43supernatural turn and the streets become a short but spooky playground for the undead.
10:48The contrast is what makes this sequence so darn memorable. One minute you're just exploring a
10:53cool as heck city built for skateboarding, and the next minute you're caught up in a horror movie
10:58scenario involving reanimated corpses. It's a wonderfully bizarre detour for a skateboarding game,
11:04proving that even a series focused on pulling off ridiculous tricks can still find
11:08time to unleash a little zombie apocalypse fun.
11:24Prologue Nightmare, Max Payne.
11:27I really love to watch cartoons. Captain Baseball Batboy's my neighbor.
11:36Max Payne is a gritty, hard-boiled crime thriller packed with shootouts and noir-inspired storytelling,
11:42but its infamous and downright unsettling and creepy prologue nightmare sequence plunges players into
11:48something straight out of a psychological horror game. Max finds himself wandering through a surreal
11:53blood-soaked nightmare where narrow crimson pathways stretch into darkness. Unsettling cries and moans and
11:59wails echo through the void, and the haunting sound of a baby cry makes the entire experience deeply,
12:05deeply uncomfortable. Gone are the satisfying gunfights and cinematic action sequences, replaced by
12:11a disorienting maze that weaponizes grief, guilt, and the trauma of Max's murdered family to create some
12:17genuine dread and scares. It's a shocking tonal shift that demonstrates just how effectively a game
12:23about a revenge-driven detective can transform into pure nightmare fuel without ever being classified as a
12:29horror game.
12:41So, what did you think of our spooky picks for this list? What are some creepy levels in PS2 non
12:46-horror
