00:00Uncharted 3 Drake's Deception Collector's Edition. These are limited edition. They're only going to make like three, maybe more. Hopefully
00:10more. They should have more.
00:11Welcome to Mojo Plays, and collectibles, limited or collector editions are some of my favorite things about this hobby, but
00:18even I can't find and display them all, even if I do already have more than a couple on this
00:23list.
00:23So I will do this part. Alright. There it is. There it is. Again, it has a hefty, hefty weight
00:33to it.
00:33Before we continue, be sure to subscribe to our channel and ring the bell to get notified about our latest
00:38videos.
00:41Panzer Dragoon Remake, Forever Limited.
00:51A remake of the only reason to own a Sega Saturn already felt like a miracle.
00:56But then the Forever Limited kept it limited to 500 numbered copies, is Megapixel's way of still gatekeeping one of
01:03Sega's best games from all but the diehard fanboys.
01:07In the collection, you get a remake plus a certificate that makes the print run official, which is how a
01:12modern disc becomes a relic before the decade is over.
01:15The original is still that rail shooter where the dragon is beautiful and the world is trying to knock you
01:21off it.
01:22But this box is that instinct applied to retail.
01:25Most people who wanted it blinked, refreshed, and found a sold-out page and nearly three decades of continued regret.
01:32Owning a numbered copy is proof that in a world of eight billion people, you are one in five hundred.
01:46Metal Gear Solid 4, Guns of the Patriots, Limited Edition.
01:51This is it, brother. Our final moment.
02:03MGS4 is the end of a tired war after a generation of codec calls, complete with a mustache that hurts
02:09more than the punchlines.
02:11Players felt every grumble as Old Snake crawled through a send-off that already knew it was an ending,
02:17and Sony boxed that mood like it deserved furniture, and every statue edition since has been chasing the same pose.
02:24Region to region, the extras changed, but the idea didn't, and the EU got the best version.
02:30Pulling Snake out of the screen and sneaking him onto a cabinet in a premium case that made the release
02:36date feel like a wake.
02:37You can finish the disc without the display piece, but you don't get the ending that keeps standing there after
02:43the credits,
02:44which is exactly the kind of extra this series had both earned and deserved.
02:48Kojima, once again, led an industry that's still playing catch-up.
03:01Cult of the Lamb True Believer Edition
03:03Cult of the Lamb stays cute right up until the sermon,
03:13which is why a plush next to a numbered display disc feels slightly unholy, but also correct.
03:18Devolver and Massive Monster printed about 300 True Believer sets and then sold them like relics for people who wanted
03:25the lamb on the desk as well as in a save file.
03:28The game is still a cheerful little theocracy you can grow on any normal skew,
03:33but this bundle is that following made physical, right down to the toy that looks like it should be placed
03:39on an altar.
03:39Even if you miss the launch window, the cult keeps running, just without the official stuffed product the rest of
03:45the plot unboxed while the page still worked.
03:48The Crusades play out either way, but there's only one edition that leaves a witness on the bookshelf.
03:58Gree, Signature Edition
04:00Gree is grief with a color palette and almost no dialogue to hide behind.
04:04So, of course, somebody turned it into a 250-copy Signature Edition that cost $250 on the way in.
04:12The game already looks like it belongs under glass.
04:15This drop just added a number and a clock.
04:18Walk the watercolor path on a regular copy and the melancholy is intact.
04:22But what you won't get is the presentation that treated the sadness like an art showing,
04:27which is the kind of package that makes a quiet platformer feel like it left a gallery with a price
04:32tag and certification of authenticity on the corner.
04:35If you sat on the product page deciding whether you were that person,
04:39this art piece disguised as a special edition decided for you,
04:42and then purposely kept the guest list small for its viewing.
04:46Uncharted 3, Drake's Deception, Collectors, and Explorer Edition
04:57Uncharted 3 gave players Nate trying to out-movie a desert and a ship graveyard.
05:02And for once, Sony put the expedition on a retail shelf instead of behind a contest form.
05:08That accessibility is how people missed it,
05:11because it looked like there would be another chest next week when there wasn't.
05:14The Collectors Edition gave fans an articulated Desert Drake statue
05:18and a whole living room looking like the trailer had unpacked itself and decided to stay.
05:23The Explorer Edition upped the ante with an antique-style chest
05:26to hold all the goodies from the Collectors Edition.
05:29The campaign still works anywhere a solid right hook and one-liners still play,
05:33but it's this edition that looks like you brought the desert home
05:36and refused to rebury it for the next treasure hunter.
05:39And that chest makes the set piece feel like it followed you off the screen.
05:44$99.99.
05:45Or for me, it's free.
05:47Because I'm stealing it.
05:51Looking for games that are a lot easier to find?

06:03Demon's Souls Black Phantom Edition
06:12Demon's Souls taught an entire generation to lose with manners.
06:16Then the Black Phantom Edition put that lesson in resin before the remake made the Foggate pretty.
06:21A red stylized case and an art book were the first wave way of saying the PS3 cult already knew
06:27it was going to build a church.
06:29But not every region got the same saint.
06:31And the ones that did got a shrine instead of just a keep case.
06:35Bulletaria is still open on later hardware with the same messages and the same long way back from a stupid
06:41death.
06:41But this early collectible is the part that says you celebrated those deaths before they were a brand
06:46as well as the plastic proof that you were in the congregation when the tower still felt like a secret.
06:58The Last of Us Part 2, Ellie and Collector's Editions
07:02What do you do?
07:10I saved her.
07:11The Last of Us Part 2 is the revenge story people still argue about in comment sections that still debate
07:17Masterpiece or Overrated.
07:19However, the collector boxes are the part almost nobody argues with.
07:23The collector's edition gave Survivors a foot-tall Ellie with the guitar to occupy an end table.
07:29While the Ellie edition added the real-world recreation of her backpack and a 7-inch vinyl that just commits
07:35to the bit.
07:36Letting you relive the game's soundtrack the way it was always meant to be heard.
07:40The debate around the campaign may never go away,
07:43but if you waited, you missed some of the most impressively detailed collector's items from the 8th generation.
07:48Naughty Dog built a second apocalypse and then sold the souvenir that made it look permanent.
07:53And the statue is how the ending keeps standing there when the arguments don't.
08:00They'll act like you heard of us or something.
08:04God of War Ragnarok, Jotnar Edition
08:14God of War Ragnarok gave players a Kratos learning to be a father while the Nine Realms catch fire.
08:20Which is already more mythology than most cabinets can hold,
08:23and then Sony shipped a 16-inch Mjolnir and a cloth map as if the living room needed its own
08:29relic case.
08:30The Jotnar Edition looks like a museum gift shop that finally got the license right.
08:34Right up until you notice the game itself is a code hugging a steelbook.
08:38The campaign still plays incredibly either way,
08:41and Mjolnir looks imposing on a shelf.
08:43But what this box really captures is the generation in miniature.
08:47A spectacular object up front in the actual game living in an account.
08:52Which is a very modern way to send a god off to retirement.
08:56That's giant craftsmanship.
08:58You've been to Jotunheim again?
09:00Shinrei Jususuchi Tarumaru
09:08Tarumaru is a mean little Saturn action game that never got a Western parade.
09:12And the publisher even died after a few thousand copies.
09:16Which is a brutal way to finish a print run even by late 90s standards.
09:20Five to seven and a half thousand were already a short life cycle.
09:24But a dead company turned that into a closed book.
09:27The play is frantic in that late 32-bit way that feels one cabinet away from an arcade,
09:32full of odd timing and a tone that never apologizes for being weird.
09:36The case is the only official body the game has left.
09:40Which is why the object matters more than a plot synopsis ever will.
09:43You didn't miss a blockbuster must-play.
09:46You missed a little title that ran out of publisher before it ran out of personality.
09:50And the plastic is how that personality still occupies a shelf Sega stopped supporting decades ago.
10:00PowerFest 94 plus Star Fox Super Weekend plus DKC competition.
10:05These titles were never supposed to live next to a normal SNES library.
10:10Nintendo dragged time builds of Star Fox and Donkey Kong Country through malls and blockbuster stores,
10:15putting a clock on the same courses kids already knew from home.
10:19And then maybe handed out a jacket or two if the line was kind.
10:23The carts were weekend equipment that was supposed to go back in the crate when the folding tables came down.
10:29A normal childhood missed them on purpose because the retail versions were already in the living room without a buzzer
10:34and a crowd.
10:35But owning one now is owning the event that borrowed a hit and turned it into a ticket stub that
10:40still boots up.
10:42Which is a very 90s way to make hardware feel like a field trip.
10:45Clay Fighter Sculptor's Cut
10:53Clay Fighter 63 and a third already looked like a craft store accident that learned special moves.
10:59And then the Sculptor's Cut stuffed in extra fighters and hid the whole thing behind a blockbuster counter instead of
11:04a Toys R Us glass case.
11:06When the chain cleared house, only members could buy the leftovers.
11:10Which is how a rental joke became a complete box that never had a real retail life.
11:15You could spend a weekend with bad Mr. Frosty and return him like a normal person.
11:19But what you never got if you shopped like a normal person is the addition that only existed because a
11:25video store briefly acted like a publisher.
11:27The fights are still silly clay punches with a roster that looks homemade on purpose.
11:32While the box is the part that feels like a late fee and a sticker that was never supposed to
11:36become the entire story of the cartridge.
11:46A mail order Moses game that spent years with only a couple of confirmed copies is a wild thing to
11:53have to say about a cartridge.
11:55Even in a decade that sold all kinds of strange ideas through the back of a magazine.
11:59Red Sea Crossing is a biblical action on hardware that was already struggling to keep ordinary titles in print.
12:06Offered from a catalog page instead of a campaign with television time.
12:10So naturally, almost nobody ordered it and even fewer kept it.
12:14The rarity is a curiosity from the corner of the 80s that thought scripture needed a joystick and a title
12:20screen.
12:21While the box is the order form made real.
12:24If you never saw the ad, you lived the normal version of that decade.
12:27But if you somehow have the version that actually shipped,
12:31you have a strange prize for paying attention when everyone else was buying something with a household name on the
12:36label.
12:37Air Raid
12:37Air Raid is an Atari 2600 shooter you can explain in one breath.
12:42But then the T-handle cart shows up looking like it wandered in from a different industry and declined to
12:48apologize.
12:49Only about a dozen are known to still exist.
12:52Which is less a release and more a shape that escaped the booth.
12:55People bought things that looked like games.
12:58However, this one looks like a tool you weren't supposed to take home.
13:02Early adopters who skipped it missed out on the handle.
13:05And that handle is the entire personality of the edition.
13:08The shots were simple enough that the software would never have earned a spot on a list like this by
13:13itself.
13:14Instead, it's the object that remains when the screen fades.
13:17A piece of plastic that still doesn't resemble anything else on the table and refuses to advertise it's a video
13:23game.
13:23NBA Elite 11
13:25What are the Lakers looking for here tonight?
13:27If you're facing Nualdang, the thing you want to do is make sure that this guy does not get easy
13:31baskets.
13:32EA cancelled NBA Elite 11 after copies had already been pressed and then tried to pull them back like the
13:39warehouse was a customer service desk and the season could be unscrewed.
13:43However, a handful of PS3 boxes left anyway.
13:46So a basketball game that never launched still has a spine and a cover that looks almost ordinary.
13:52What you're holding isn't a dynasty mode worth defending on the merits.
13:56It's the leftover of a product that officially didn't happen.
13:59Most players experience the cancellation as opposed.
14:02But this is the kind of cancellation you can put next to the games that actually tipped off.
14:07Which is a grim little trophy for a sim that never got its opening night and still managed to leave
14:12a box behind.
14:13It'll count if it goes.
14:16And this one comes to an end.
14:18Pepsi Invaders
14:19Coca-Cola made 125 carts so employees could shoot the word Pepsi in a Space Invaders clone.
14:26Which should be a reunion story told over lukewarm punch but is also somehow a real cartridge.
14:32The game has all the depth of a cooler sticker.
14:35But for an addition that was only supposed to live in an office, it's a novelty for novelty's sake.
14:40If you weren't in that building in 1983, then you likely lived your life without knowing of its existence.
14:46But if you somehow have one, you have the pettiest soda war of the 2600 era in a shell that
14:52was handed out like swag and never meant for a toy aisle.
14:56The cartridge alone is the office party idea that accidentally became hardware history.
15:01Which is a ridiculous thing for a console to preserve and somehow the most honest artifact of how companies used
15:07to treat games as favors.
15:09Elemental Gearbolt Assassin Case
15:20Elemental Gearbolt is the rail shooter people remember as the other one.
15:24The one that didn't get the Time Crisis poster or the arcade pedestal.
15:27But then E3 handed 50 people a briefcase with a gold gun con and the game riding along like an
15:34alibi for the hardware.
15:35Press and partners left the floor with a prop that looked like they heisted a retail release that never quite
15:40became public.
15:41The disc was a light gun campaign with enough style to preserve better luck with no lanyard and no case.
15:47The briefcase is the addition.
15:49Players can still play a normal copy if you can find one.
15:53What you won't get is the show floor collectible that made the game look incredibly important for one afternoon.
15:58Which is a very E3 way to advertise a game that otherwise could have easily been forgotten.
16:11The Last of Us Post-Pandemic Edition
16:20The Last of Us already played like a prestige collapse, with the kind of apocalypse that made a living room
16:25go quiet.
16:26And then, GameStop USA put Joel and Ellie on a 12-inch stand, added a steelbook, and then sold the
16:32first release as a prominent collectible before anyone had a sequel to fight about.
16:37The pre-order came and went before anyone even realized how generational the game would become.
16:42Remasters kept bringing the campaign back in sharper coats, but this particular pairing never came back to the counter.
16:48You can still get the story on later discs, but the statue is how the two of them remain in
16:53the room long after the last clicker is dead.
16:56Like the outbreak decided it needed a centerpiece, which is the whole reason this edition exists.
17:02So is that everything you hoped for?
17:05Jury's still out.
17:07Oh man, can't deny that view.
17:10Stadium Events
17:11Bandai shipped a power pad runner that asked kids to sprint, jump, and look ridiculous on living room carpet,
17:18and then Nintendo yanked it so World Class TrackMe could wear the official shirt.
17:23It was the same ROM, just a different box, which is the entire reason this edition exists.
17:28The approved version is the one most people remember when they remember a Mac game at all,
17:33with first-party branding and a lot of sweating in front of a television that made aerobics feel like a
17:38sport.
17:39Stadium Events is the label that was supposed to disappear after the swap.
17:43In the Bandai era wrapping, Nintendo didn't want to sit next to its own catalog.
17:47This box is the first name, the one that got pulled before the pad ever had a chance to become
17:52ordinary,
17:53and the cardboard is what remains of a recall that never quite finished the job.
17:58Uncharted 2 Among Thieves, Fortune Hunter Edition
18:11Uncharted 2 is still the set-piece sequel everybody uses as the measuring stick,
18:16from the train to the ice peaks and the sense that Naughty Dog had figured out
18:20how to make a weeknight at home feel like a summer movie.
18:23The Fortune Hunter Edition never sat on a retail wall,
18:26and instead, only 200 contest copies came with a signed case
18:30and a life-size furbid dagger that made the living room look like the prop department
18:34had taken a wrong turn out of Nepal.
18:37You either won, or you didn't.
18:39The campaign is playable everywhere now,
18:41but the dagger is the part that stayed an exclusive event.
18:44If you somehow missed that one email back in 2009,
18:48you witnessed a lost relic slip through your fingers,
18:50which is a very uncharted way to keep the story
18:53and lose the souvenir that made the expedition feel finished.
18:57What the hell did you do back there?
19:00Oh, you know, save the world.
19:04Nintendo World Championships Gold
19:1326 Gold Shell Karts were mailed out as Nintendo Power Prizes
19:17and never boxed like something you grab next to Mario on a Saturday.
19:21Instead, they were trophies that happened to run a timed sprint
19:24through Super Mario Bros. and Rad Racer
19:27for people who had already won the magazine.
19:29Grey Competition Karts are the common folk version of that singular weekend,
19:33the ones that still feel like a rumor with pins.
19:36While the gold is the prize version.
19:38The shell still looks like somebody melted a trophy into a cartridge,
19:42which only accentuates its collectible nature.
19:45Playing the events remains a footnote for anyone
19:47who wasn't in that handful of living rooms.
19:50While holding this one is the championship
19:52the rest of the hobby only gets to read about
19:54in the same magazine that was used to pick the winners.
