00:10Welcome to MojoPlays, and today we're here to take a look at 10 games that are often
00:15considered to be bad or just simply unenjoyable to play. However, I absolutely love these games,
00:22flaws, faults, and all. Yes, that's right, this is a personal curated list. So my hope here is
00:29that you'll see some games you don't normally hear about and perhaps give them a chance.
00:33To some, they are bad. To me, they are awesome. So let's do this.
00:46Before we begin, we publish new content all week long, so be sure to subscribe

00:551. Alone in the Dark
01:06Fans of Southern Gothic vibes and Lovecraftian themes have a lot to like here in 2024's Alone in the Dark.
01:13While this game may not have been the return to form for Alone in the Dark like many had hoped
01:18for,
01:18it's still dripping with tension, horror, and plenty of uniqueness. Stepping into the shoes of
01:24either Edward Carnby or Emily Hartwood, you must traipse through the eerie hallways, rooms, and portals
01:30of D'Arcedo Manor, uncovering the dark mystery at play. Despite the game's clunky combat, uneven pacing,
01:37short runtime, and just general wonkiness, it manages to shine through with deeply unsettling and creative
01:43settings. A memorable cast of characters, dual campaigns, simple yet enjoyable puzzles,
01:49and some intriguing exploration across a host of otherworldly domains.
01:572. Nickelodeon Kart Racers
02:13Now, alright, I'm a downright sucker for a cartoony kart racing game, which might be an understatement,
02:19no matter how bad or good the game might be. So much so that I can confidently yet pathetically say
02:25that I 100%ed Hello Kitty Cruisers for Nintendo Switch. Yeah, that's right. So it probably, I guess,
02:32doesn't come as any surprise that Nickelodeon Kart Racers from 2018 to me is a blast to play,
02:38even if I'm honest, it's obviously not a very well made game. Despite the second and third iteration of
02:44this kart racing series, making things more robust and refined and more fun overall, I guess,
02:50it's actually the first game that I come back to more often than not. Yes, it does feel a bit
02:55hollow
02:55and soulless at times, but it more than makes up for it with a good kart racing feel, drifting included,
03:02some fun items to use, and a nice selection of Nickelodeon inspired tracks to race on. Plus,
03:07you get to hoover up slime coins to buy new gear, which adds to the longevity here. Even with the
03:13lack of
03:13characters and character personality, if I'm honest, it manages to be a simple right to the point car
03:18racer that is just fun to play, thrills and frills notwithstanding. The Haunted Mansion
03:42Gosh, I really adore this PS2 era action adventure title set within the eponymous Disney mansion.
03:49I come back to this game all of the time, especially during the Halloween season. You guide the bumbling
03:55yet courageous Zeke Holloway, who accepts a job as a caretaker at the very much haunted mansion.
04:01Zeke soon learns he is in over his head in all manner of spooks and specters,
04:06and just things that go bump in the night. The game mixes in unique ethereal lamplight
04:10third-person combat, a host of creepy locales to explore in the mansion, solve puzzles within,
04:17find upgrades, and collect death certificates to flesh out the denizen's ghostly nature.
04:21The game is filled to the brim with inspiration from the Disney ride, with the mansion itself
04:26being interconnected in a sort of light metroidvania-esque way. Like many early 2000s games,
04:33it does suffer from a wonky camera, strange difficulty spikes, uneven performance,
04:38and some technical hiccups. But it certainly makes up for it in spooky vibes alone,
04:42paired with the Disney flavor that helps it stand out.
05:02BANJO KAZOOIE NUTS AND BOLTS
05:13Had this game not been about Banjo and Kazooie, it likely would be more fondly remembered. However,
05:19as it is, Nuts and Bolts is the black sheep of the venerable Banjo-Kazooie franchise.
05:24You see, instead of leaning into the 3D platforming goodness we enjoyed in Kazooie and 2i, and heck,
05:30even the sort of top-down 2D Grunty's Revenge platforming for GBA, Nuts and Bolts is all about
05:36creating, crafting, and building specific vehicles and vehicle types, in order to make your way
05:41through the game's many levels. The vehicle construction system is the beating heart of
05:46this game, make no bones about it. If you don't jive with that, then it really won't resonate with you,
05:51even if it does still feature some 3D platforming adjacent shenanigans and puzzles. Again, it just
05:57doesn't feel like a Banjo game. If you can look at the game as a unique sort of one-off
06:02experience,
06:03then it might just provide a good enough blueprint for fun in your book.
06:16Castlevania Lords of Shadow Mirror of Fate
06:27Where Lords of Shadow shone as a beacon of hope in the 3D Castlevania space, and Lords of Shadow 2,
06:33serves as the low bar, a confusing and odd title to actually recommend, Lords of Shadow Mirror of Fate
06:39sits in this sort of middle ground. It's not a revolutionary or even remarkable title, let alone
06:44as a Castlevania game, yet it manages to still provide a mostly compelling 2.5D Metroidvania experience.
06:52This bridge gap game between the first and second Lords of Shadow games thrusts you into the roles of
06:57Trevor Belmont, Simon Belmont, and even Alucard. Oh, and even a super brief opening section as Gabriel.
07:03This multi-character campaign consistently provides new narrative and gameplay surprises,
07:08as you navigate through the intertwined map layout, engaging in puzzles, platforming,
07:13and battling hordes and hordes of supernatural baddies. While it can often feel janky and needlessly
07:18repetitive at times, its overall sense of gothic ambiance, paired with great music,
07:23makes it a worthwhile Castlevania game despite its flaws.
07:38Fable 3
07:39Now, I don't think most people out there really think that Fable 3 is a bad game. However,
07:50Fable fans generally think of this one as the weakest of the bunch. Personally though, I find
07:56Fable 3 to be deeply enjoyable and replayable, the game in the series I come back to most often.
08:01The whole industrial revolution version of Albion really changes up the experience and ambiance here,
08:07not necessarily for the better, since it often means that very specific, can't really put your
08:12finger on it, Fable fantasy charm takes somewhat of a backseat at times, but only somewhat. The narrative
08:18hook here is how you deal with your tyrannical king brother Logan, either helping him or hindering
08:23him and his kingdom, and everything in between, and then you eventually become king and have to make
08:28those big decisions yourself. You see, the thing is, Fable 3 often comes across as a more simplified version of
08:34the previous
08:34games, at least when it comes to RPG stuff. Standardizing and homogenizing things all the way. This does make for
08:41a more straightforward
08:42fantasy RPG experience that refines a lot of the fluff from the first two games, but that means it
08:48can leave it somewhat lacking in overall personality at times. However, at the end of the day though,
08:53it still does feel and play like a classic Fable game, humor, hijinks and all.
08:57I really love how much time we're spending in caves and sewers these days. No, really.
09:18First Frights is typically seen as where the 3D Scooby Doo games fully went downhill, with the Spooky
09:24Swamp from 2010 sort of being the nail in the coffin for future 3D outings, as sad as that is
09:30to say.
09:30Where Night of 100 Frights is looked at as the high point, First Frights is the low point.
09:35It's a bummer, and honestly a real shame, since First Frights is actually a really fun game to play
09:40through, replete with stages that feel ripped straight out of the cartoon, the ability to play
09:45as the whole Scooby gang, various costumes to collect, and bosses ready to be unmasked.
09:50First Frights plays as an action platformer with beat em up elements, and plenty of Scooby snacks to
09:55collect. Yes, it can get repetitive quite quickly, and it's all quite simple and easy.
10:00However, for a game that feels like you are playing through episodes of the Scooby cartoon,
10:04it's a fun time to enjoy over a weekend, especially with a friend or family member in tow.
10:20Call of Duty Ghosts
10:21Now I'll be the first to admit that Call of Duty Ghosts took a long time to sink its hooks
10:26into me.
10:26I had to play it, stop playing it, and then replay it a bunch of times before it finally clicked,
10:32and
10:32actually became one of my favorite COD games that I often return to for some quick bot matches in the
10:37large and creative maps. While the single player campaign was bombastic, unnerving, and relentless,
10:43kind of like watching a typical action movie, and like other COD games out there, as well as the
10:48Extinction Horde mode, it's actually really Ghosts' multiplayer that kept me coming back for more.
10:53The weapons fell weaker from other games, but were also enjoyable to experiment with. The maps were
10:59diverse, open to multiple routes and flanking maneuvers, and highly enjoyable to saunter about
11:04within, trying to quell the opposing forces. It just feels unlike any other COD game, for better or
11:10for worse, depending on the player you are. And I mean, come on, that spooky fog map where you can
11:15shape-shift into Michael Myers via a hard-to-find field order is just the perfect chef's kiss to
11:20the bunch of great DLC maps added to the game over time post-launch.
11:30Bubsy in Claws Encounters of the Third Kind.
11:39Yep, it's Bubsy. You either love his games or downright despise them. But as someone who grew
11:45up in the 90s with the Sega Genesis, and with copies of Sonic 2 and Bubsy, I'd be lying to
11:51you
11:51if I didn't say I have really fond memories of both of these games. But for the purposes of this
11:56very
11:57list, Bubsy might be a bad game all around, something I can easily get behind since I did
12:02try replaying it in 2026. But gosh darn it, I still find it so enjoyable for some odd reason.
12:09Maybe I'm crazy? Probably. Perhaps it's the hard-to-master momentum-based platforming.
12:14Perhaps it's the zany cartoony levels. Perhaps it's Bubsy's quirky and often annoying quips and
12:19one-liners. Or perhaps it's just because it's a product of its time. Regardless of all of this,
12:25Bubsy can be both bad and fun at the same time. Yeah, why not?
12:38Spirits and Spells, also known as Castleween, console version.
12:49The inspiration for this very list, and the reason I pitched this topic to begin with.
12:54Yes, that's right, a super obscure early 2000s platformer centered around the Halloween holiday
13:00was the inspiration for this very list. It's the game that always comes to my mind when I personally
13:06think of bad games that I love. Spirits and Spells, known as Castleween in other regions,
13:11tosses you into the costumes of Alicia and Greg, two kids who must save their friends on Halloween night
13:17from the nefarious hands of the boogeyman. After several detours, they managed to shake off the
13:23monsters, but now they were lost. This game just oozes Halloween charm, vibes, ambiance,
13:30and flavor. There's no two ways about it. The spooky levels, the whole costume thing,
13:35the abilities, the collectibles, just all of it. I love it for all of that. But my goodness, if I'm
13:41completely honest, this is a poorly made game. The platforming never feels right, the camera is a mess,
13:47the later levels are laid out poorly, the bosses are unforgiving at times, and it just simply doesn't
13:52feel all that great to play. But despite all of that, it still manages to be fun to play,
13:57somehow, someway, especially during the cool, crisp autumn months and Halloween season.
14:12So, what did you think of my picks for this list? We'd love to hear about games that you enjoy,
14:17that many consider to be bad. Be sure to let us know in the comments.
