00:00Are they going to have a running game this week, Daryl?
00:02Junkin's back, Samson back?
00:04It feels that way.
00:07We'll see this weekend, but just listening to folks out here in Berea,
00:14there's a lot of optimism with the arrow pointing in that direction,
00:18and obviously that would be a little bit of a shot in the arm for the run game,
00:23which has struggled to find its footing here in the first six weeks of the season.
00:27But I do think that there's a very good chance that they'll be at full strength
00:34at running back this weekend.
00:36I like that idea.
00:38I do too.
00:39So what are you going to do with Estime?
00:42What are you going to do with Jaleel if they're back to full strength?
00:45Well, you have practice squad, right?
00:49Yeah.
00:50Hopefully you can get them on there.
00:51Yeah.
00:52I don't think that'll be – I don't know that Andrew Berry's losing sleep over that one.
00:58Much – unlike the quarterback situation, that's – you know,
01:01obviously you're going to figure out that next week.
01:03What happens on –
01:04Yeah, what happens there?
01:05Look at your crystal ball.
01:06What happens on Tuesday?
01:07Be the man, Daryl.
01:08I think Andrew Berry calls everyone's bluff and keeps all four on the active roster.
01:12Love it.
01:14That would be –
01:14For starters.
01:15That would be fun.
01:16Until an opportunity presents itself.
01:18But I think that – because, I mean, I haven't heard anything to lead me to believe that Dylan Gabriel
01:26has been lost for the season.
01:28And he – and what we see in practice is we don't get to see much.
01:33We just see stretching in individual, you know, periods, things like that.
01:38But I – like, I haven't seen anything to lead me to believe that he's going to be left on
01:44injured reserve for the rest of the season as well.
01:46So, that's obviously good news for Dylan Gabriel.
01:50Maybe not such great news for Andrew Berry, who will have to, again, make some tough roster decisions here.
01:57He may not really have to make – if he does decide to keep four quarterbacks, which I – sometimes
02:02I'm like, there's just no way.
02:03But I think you could be right.
02:05I think at the outset they will.
02:06Yeah, I think you are too.
02:07I really do.
02:07By the way, I think it lasts as long as this road trip, right?
02:11This three-game road trip because the trade deadline's on the 10th.
02:16So, maybe that's when they make their next decision is – you're only looking at two games, right?
02:22Two games, yeah.
02:22Two games, Pittsburgh and, what, New Orleans after that.
02:25New Orleans, right.
02:27Yeah, so that you look at that and you're like, okay, well, we'll carry four quarterbacks for two games.
02:32And then we'll assess this by the 10th.
02:35Or unless something happens around the league to where Andrew Berry's phone rings, right?
02:39Yeah.
02:39Because we've – I mean, we've already seen that here in the first six weeks of the season.
02:45So, I'm convinced that had Dylan Gabriel not had to go on injured reserve at the start of the season,
02:53maybe Andrew Berry already made a trade with the New York Giants involving a quarterback.
02:59So, but yeah, no, I think at the outset they'll keep four and then hope the phone rings.
03:09Darrell, I want you to watch out for our airplane because while you've been on the phone,
03:12we've heard a truck backing up on you and we've heard now the train go by, just so you know.
03:18I'm concerned about you.
03:20Can you hear the construction that's by me as well?
03:23Yeah.
03:23Are you wearing a hard hat?
03:25No, I'm not.
03:26I'm outside the work zone.
03:27Okay, all right, good.
03:28So, personal protection equipment does not apply.
03:31We care about you.
03:32That's why we ask.
03:32We certainly do.
03:33Because 92.3, the fan cares.
03:36I'm out of the reach of the crane that's over there.
03:38By the way, they got the big hole, Doug, for the community stadium that they're building out here too.
03:44You can see, you can kind of really see that start to take shape and where that's going to be.
03:49Man, they're digging a lot of holes over there.
03:52I hope nothing collapses.
03:53You got two big holes.
03:54Oh, stop.
03:55I'm just saying.
03:57Darrell, we've heard a lot of rumbling about, okay, will the Browns trade a quarterback?
04:01Will they trade Jerry Judy?
04:03Do you think the Browns will be buyers at the trade deadline rather than sellers?
04:09Well, I mean, let's be honest about it.
04:11The NFL trade deadline tends to get overhyped quite a bit.
04:14Sure.
04:15You know, I think that Andrew Barry has certainly shown himself to be a very aggressive GM.
04:23He is not afraid to buy or sell.
04:26So if there is a material need and opportunity pops up, yeah, I think Andrew Barry will pull the trigger
04:31if it can make this team better.
04:32They're 4-2 right now.
04:34They are, you know, sitting atop the division.
04:36They're, you know, playing some great football on the defensive side.
04:41And the offense is doing just enough at the end of games to, you know, to get them over the
04:46top the majority of the time.
04:48So if there's an opportunity there, yeah.
04:50Now, do I think that they're going to be selling?
04:52I don't think so.
04:54I know the conversation around Jerry Judy and why people are thinking that way.
04:59Me, personally, I wouldn't trade him.
05:00This is a guy that's helped you win two football games.
05:03I don't know that you win those two games without him.
05:06I just, I personally would not trade Jerry.
05:10I don't feel like he is a negative in any way, shape, or form.
05:14And so I think that they should keep him unless you get some absurd compensation in return.
05:24But I get why people keep bringing him up as a potential player that gets traded because of just the,
05:34you know,
05:34the fact that he's not right now a primary target.
05:39But you listen to Todd Muckin yesterday and what Todd say, I probably should get him even more involved.
05:45So we'll see if that materializes here this weekend in Tennessee.
05:50All right, let me ask you this.
05:51We've been kicking around all day.
05:53Who is the real Deshaun Watson?
05:55Is he quarters one through three or is he quarter four?
06:00Wow.
06:01I think closer to one, two, and three.
06:04But he's doing what he needs to do in quarter four to help them win football games.
06:09The question, to me, the question is, what can Deshaun Watson do to be like the guy in the fourth
06:17quarter in quarters one, two, and three?
06:20What can the Browns collectively, that's one of the questions I've been asking here this week is, you know,
06:25what can they do to be that offense in the first through three quarters so that you're not in this
06:31live or die,
06:33win, you know, win or lose situation here in the fourth quarter?
06:37It's great what they've been able to accomplish.
06:40Don't want to diminish that.
06:43But, you know, how do they get off the better starts and faster starts collectively?
06:47What's he doing differently in the fourth quarter that he's not doing in the first quarter, in the second quarter,
06:52in the third quarter?
06:53And how do you get him to do those things in those quarters?
06:56And then maybe you're not, you know, in that position.
06:59And, listen, if I had the answers for that, you and I wouldn't be having the – I'd be in
07:05Todd Munkin's seat, okay?
07:06But I don't have the question.
07:07I don't have the answers for that.
07:09And I don't know if Todd Munkin has the answers for that either.
07:12But certainly the outcomes are all that, you know, really matters, the end results.
07:17And, again, they played six games.
07:20And Deshaun Watson has four game-winning drives.
07:24A lot to be said for that, Daryl.
07:27It's only stats that matters, Jeff.
07:29It really is.
07:30You just need one more point than they got.
07:32It doesn't matter if it's, you know, 13-10.
07:35It doesn't matter if it's 27-26 or 42-41, right?
07:40It just doesn't matter.
07:41And you've got a defense.
07:42And I think that what's helping, too, is you have a defense that has been so strong and stout without
07:48Miles Garrett.
07:49They're number two in the league in sacks without Miles Garrett.
07:53And Jared Burst has zero sacks.
07:57And I don't necessarily think that that's a bad thing.
07:59I know fans will look at it, oh, you know, Jared Burst is playing terrible, et cetera.
08:04I completely disagree.
08:05I think Jared Burst is playing great.
08:07I think Jared Burst is helping everyone on that defensive line eat.
08:11And they are.
08:12They're feasting.
08:14And so, you know, we didn't talk to Jared in the locker room this morning.
08:18And he, again, reiterated, as long as they're winning, you know, if everyone else is getting sacks and he's not,
08:28he's perfectly fine with the wins.
08:31This isn't about the player I'm going to ask you about.
08:34This is about what the offense is doing with him.
08:38Harold Fannin has two catches in the last two games.
08:42Yeah.
08:43What's up?
08:45Yeah, I think it's a combination of quarterback not seeing him, not having either the time or the vision to
08:55get him the ball.
08:56And I think it's also a combination of he had an outstanding rookie year.
08:59And defenses are trying to limit the damage and focus on him a little bit as well.
09:06I don't think it's one singular thing, because I think it was one singular thing, Jeff, we wouldn't be having
09:11this conversation.
09:11I think they'd have a chance.
09:14But, you know, look at Denzel Boston, right?
09:17Give the Ravens defense credit.
09:20They basically said last weekend, Denzel Boston is not going to beat us.
09:24Denzel Boston didn't beat us.
09:25Jerry Judy did.
09:26Denzel Boston didn't, right?
09:28So, this is the ebbs and flows of a season when you have good, talented players, right?
09:34And you have defenses saying, hey, got to take Fannin out.
09:39Got to take Boston out.
09:41Got to take Quinshawn out.
09:44There are legitimate players offensively that opposing defenses have to game plan for and target as part of their game
09:52plans going in week in and week out.
09:56For me, I think that's a positive thing, okay, that these guys are commanding that type of respect.
10:01I think the next evolution for some of these young players is now, how do you overcome that?
10:06You know, what can Harold Fannin Jr. do to make himself more available in the passing game or make himself
10:12more visible in the passing game for Deshawn to feel comfortable, you know, throwing to him in some tight spaces?
10:20And same thing with Denzel Boston, right?
10:24And those aren't criticisms.
10:25Like, again, this is just the ebbs and flows of, you know, being an offensive player in the National Football
10:31League.
10:35I know we asked this question before everybody else's last question.
10:39Is this a trap game?
10:40Yeah.
10:41It is a trap game.
10:43Don't tell Jared first that.
10:44You don't believe in him.
10:45I do.
10:47Jets was a trap game they lost, right?
10:49Mother Nature didn't cooperate.
10:50That didn't help either.
10:51It was a terrible weather game, but the Browns were not at their best.
10:56Yes, this is absolutely a trap game.
10:58You've got a trip to Pittsburgh where you have not won a regular season game, I want to say, since
11:012003.
11:02I know they won the playoff game during COVID.
11:06Right.
11:06But that's just the Browns have had absolutely no success, really, in that stadium in the regular season since it
11:13opened.
11:14So, yeah, this absolutely is a trap game for them.
11:17Titans are 1-5.
11:18The message coming out of the locker room, the message coming from the Browns building here, Titans don't look like
11:25a 1-5 team.
11:26And if we don't show up on Sunday, believing that and playing like that, well, they're going to have a
11:33repeat of what happened against the Jets.
11:35Because they had that Jets game won, let's be honest about it.
11:37Yeah.
11:38They had that game won, and they blew it in the final four minutes and 20 seconds.
11:43So...
11:44We lived it.
11:44Yeah.
11:45Yeah.
11:46You know, you can't let that happen again.
11:47But, yeah, it's a trap game.
11:49With all the respect to Jared Burst, they do exist.
11:51There you go.
11:51All right, Daryl, thank you very much.
11:52We do appreciate your time.
11:53And, of course, we're always listening for your updates right here on 92.3 The Fan.
11:57Thank you, Daryl.
11:57Thanks, Steve.
11:58You bet, guys.
11:58Have a good one.
