00:00Nathan Segura joins us right now.
00:01He's on the Wise Heart Right, We Make a Right Call, Kyle Right Hotline.
00:04Nathan, how the hell are you?
00:06I'm doing great, Monfrere.
00:08It's great to be with you guys.
00:09How are you doing?
00:10Doing wonderful.
00:11We're trying to find some spots here for some guys, all right?
00:15So let's just cut the crap and get right to it with the quarterbacks here.
00:19What are we going to do with these four QBs?
00:23That's a great question.
00:24I think that is one of the toughest questions or decisions
00:26facing General Manager Andrew Barry on Sunday
00:29because right now you could make a legitimate case
00:34that you should keep all four quarterbacks.
00:36And if you keep all four quarterbacks,
00:38that obviously puts some stress on other parts of your roster.
00:41Now, with the ability to elevate players from the practice squad
00:44multiple times a season, that makes it a little bit less of an issue.
00:49But a lot of teams try to go into the season with two quarterbacks on the 53,
00:52three at most, four would be incredibly rare.
00:55But I don't think there's any way somebody with the raw talents of Talon Green
01:01clears waivers.
01:02I could be wrong.
01:03But after what I saw last night, his ability to make something out of nothing
01:07and, you know, you hope you can continue to develop him as a quarterback.
01:09But you could just see the guys on New England started playing differently on defense
01:14just because of his ability to basically run out of the end zone
01:17and pick up 30 yards on a play where they thought they were going to get a safety.
01:20Dylan Gabriel was absolutely dealing.
01:23Dealing Gabriel is what people were calling him yesterday.
01:26He looks great running this offense with no reps.
01:28These guys haven't gotten reps all week.
01:30And they went out there and looked as good as they did.
01:33So that speaks, number one, to their diligence,
01:34also number two, to the coaching they're receiving.
01:38So, I mean, I'm guessing you are going to be fielding trade offers for Dylan Gabriel.
01:42Again, it would not surprise me in the very least if we believe what we're hearing out
01:47of Atlanta to be true, and that is that Tua Tungabailoa might not even make that roster.
01:53That would obviously be a perfect landing spot.
01:55But here's something I want people to think about.
01:57Dylan Gabriel was drafted, you know, to be somebody that the Browns thought would be in
02:02the league for a decade.
02:03Could be a backup.
02:04Could be a starter when you need it.
02:05Think of a Case Keenan.
02:06Think of a Colt McCoy.
02:08And I do think that they think he is a valuable piece of their future.
02:12I think they're looking for the guy of the future.
02:15But I really think there's a portion where they believe that guy of the future,
02:20whether it's on the roster now, Deshaun or Shador Sanders,
02:23that Dylan Gabriel is going to be that person's backup.
02:26So it will be very interesting to see how this plays out.
02:29But I think right now we are actually in a scenario where they could keep all four quarterbacks.
02:33And if they do, one player who I think could end up being pivotal in that would be Mike Hall
02:39with the effect that he's playing both defensive tackle and defensive end.
02:43We have historically, over the last few years since we've had an attack front under Jim Schwartz,
02:47kept 10 on the defensive line.
02:48Five ends, five tackles.
02:50I think it's very easy to get to five tackles right now.
02:53I don't think it's quite as easy to get to five ends.
02:55So could they go four ends with Mike Hall being kind of counted as that fifth end as well?
02:59And then that frees up a spot where you can do something else on the roster,
03:02which could be a spot that ends up being the fourth quarterback.
03:05Nathan Zagura joining us on the show.
03:07You and I talked about that yesterday on the pregame on Browns game day.
03:11And I brought that up earlier this morning.
03:13And, you know, I got some eye rolls to that.
03:16I think it's possible.
03:18I think that that's a way you can use that.
03:22It kind of moves some pieces around, get some guys on that roster,
03:26including those four quarterbacks there.
03:28You mentioned Dylan Gabriel on a trade possibly to Atlanta.
03:32You know, what do you think?
03:33What do you think he could get back?
03:35Are we talking seven, six, higher?
03:38What do you think?
03:39I have no idea.
03:40And my guess is not that the Browns are going to be greedy with it,
03:45but I don't think they would just give him away.
03:47Because as you can see, he can still absolutely play quarterback.
03:50He can go back to early in training camp when he was getting a few more reps.
03:53There was talk.
03:54Should Dylan Gabriel get more reps than he's getting?
03:56And, obviously, look, the size is always going to be there with Dylan Gabriel,
04:00but he certainly knows how to operate an offense.
04:02He knows where the ball should go.
04:03And you saw that last night.
04:05Now, you also saw down the field a little bit.
04:07Can he put just enough on it, the ball that got to Luke Floria,
04:11if that ball's thrown two inches further, that's a touchdown.
04:15By the way, what a performance by Luke Floria.
04:17I really hope that he makes it.
04:18I know that we live in a world where it is very difficult,
04:20especially if now we're talking about keeping four quarterbacks,
04:23that you could have a fifth or a sixth receiver, however you want to slice it,
04:27who does not play special teams at all.
04:29But, I mean, what more could you ask for that kid?
04:31Every time he's been in a game, go back to Carolina last year, his debut,
04:35makes a big catch down the sideline, gets hurt.
04:37We don't see him again.
04:38Chicago, the big catch down the field.
04:40Touchdown last week.
04:40Two touchdowns, almost three this week.
04:43I really hope he can make it.
04:44A men or kid, it would be an awesome story.
04:47But I think Luke Floria's at least shown that maybe there's another team in the league
04:50that says, hey, you could come be our fourth receiver.
04:52You don't need to worry about special teams.
04:54And he gets an opportunity.
04:55But I think Luke Floria's shown that he is a 53-man roster player
04:58in the National Football League.
04:59I hope it's with the Cleveland Browns.
05:01You know that's going to make the locals excited.
05:03What about the back end of that running back room there?
05:05Because at the beginning of the game,
05:08saw a little bit of niceness from Rocket Sanders and then Devon Booth.
05:11I know that he had that fumble, put the ball on the ground.
05:13I don't know if it was a fumble or not, but he was upset about it.
05:17But certainly showed some shiftiness there as the game went on.
05:23Yeah, I like him.
05:24I think that Devon Booth can end up on the practice squad.
05:27I think probably Amani Marshall will as well.
05:29And you have kind of the bigger back.
05:31And Marshall, who's got some juices we saw in the past game.
05:34And then Devon Booth, who I think is fun.
05:35He's explosive, very productive at Mississippi State.
05:37The ability out of the backfield.
05:39And you saw that kind of Madden spin move there.
05:41That was fun.
05:42So I think those two guys went up on the practice squad.
05:44I think that Rocket Sanders is going to ultimately be your third back.
05:47And I like the way he runs.
05:49Yes, it's a little bit upright.
05:50But, man, it is powerful.
05:52Yes, he always falls forward.
05:53And then he's got a little more juice getting kind of to the edges
05:55than you might expect for a back of his size.
05:58We saw that last night.
05:59I thought he ran very well and kind of locked that third running back spot up.
06:03All right, Nathan, the broadcast last night,
06:05which, of course, you were a part of the Browns broadcast,
06:09the Amazon one was focused on Deshaun Watson, redemption story,
06:15whether or not he could complete the comeback.
06:17A lot of favorable things said.
06:19They did the interview as well with him on the sidelines.
06:22He looked, you know, comfortable being out there walking around.
06:27Very different, obviously, when he has to actually play the game.
06:30And we know what happened last time he was there.
06:32How confident do you think Todd Munkin is and this organization
06:36that after winning this job, he can actually, you know,
06:39seize control of this football team as a starting quarterback?
06:44Yeah, that's what they give him the opportunity.
06:45I didn't watch the Amazon broadcast, obviously, as I was doing ours.
06:49So I don't know exactly what was said.
06:50But this is for Deshaun Watson.
06:52This is his chance, right?
06:53This was something that a year ago people did not think was possible.
06:57Certainly it would not have been without the coaching change.
06:59And now he's got an opportunity to go down to Jacksonville
07:02and to go to Tampa and make a statement that he's back,
07:06lead this team to wins.
07:08And if he does, I think there's one thing that Brown fans should look at it this way.
07:12If Deshaun Watson, quarterback 17 games this year,
07:14that means that he's playing excellent football.
07:16The Browns are winning and are contending for the AFC North in a playoff spot.
07:21Short of that, Shador Sanders is going to play.
07:24And then you're going to find out, can Shador Sanders be the answer?
07:27Yes or no.
07:28And you'll have a pretty clear picture going into 2027
07:31of what you need to do with that position.
07:33So I think for Deshaun Watson, his goal is to play 17 games
07:37because he's only playing 17 games if he's playing really well
07:40and the Browns are winning.
07:41I think that he obviously knows what to do in the quick game.
07:43He knows where the ball should go kind of in those early situations.
07:46The next step for him is going to be going back to being the playmaker
07:49that he was in Houston, being able to push the ball down the field,
07:52letting it rip.
07:53And I think he should be playing with as free of a mind as there is.
07:57This is something that he did not think he was going to get the opportunity to do.
08:00Now he's getting that opportunity.
08:02Just let it rip.
08:03Go down, swing it if you go down.
08:04If not, make big plays and shock the world
08:07and become the quarterback that leads this Browns team back to prominence.
08:11Well, Nathan, this week, and you've seen all of it every step of the way,
08:15more RPO stuff.
08:16Is that accurate?
08:17Are we going to really be seen for the first time as a Brown?
08:21Does Deshaun Watson's legs be a factor in the game plan?
08:25Yeah, I think so.
08:27Because think about what you got.
08:28And he's not Lamar Jackson.
08:30Nobody's going to confuse him with Lamar Jackson as a runner.
08:32But with the weapons that we have out wide,
08:35with the weapons that we have to stretch the field both horizontally and vertically,
08:39there will be space if you make it 11 on 11.
08:43And I do think, and I don't know if we will.
08:45This is just my speculation.
08:46I think we can see some situations where Kalen Green gets some work in the red zone.
08:49Because he just makes defenses play differently in those read options.
08:54But yes, I do think we will see some RPOs.
08:56You can see a play, for example, where you've got the jet motion with Casey Concepcion going one way.
09:01Quinshawn Judkins is going the other way.
09:03Quarterback's got the option to give either one of the football.
09:05Or if it parts like the Red Sea, he keeps it, goes right up the middle.
09:08They have so much stuff in their bag of tricks from working with Lamar Jackson.
09:13Travis Schweitzer was there.
09:14Warhop was there.
09:15Munkin was there.
09:16So there are so many things kind of in that arsenal that, yes, they will, I think, be able to
09:20unleash.
09:21And, yes, we will see some of that in addition to him just throwing the football.
09:24What are the challenges?
09:26The weather's going to be a challenge down there.
09:27What are some of the other challenges here over the next couple of weeks as they get ready for week
09:31one?
09:32You've just got to get everybody rowing in the same direction.
09:35You've got to get everybody in the timing, in the rhythm.
09:38You've got to get ready for the silent counts you're going to need to use on the road.
09:41Of course it is going to be hot.
09:42So being in shape, hydration, all of those things are critically important.
09:46You know, we can't quite simulate that, although we're going to get some 90-degree days and humid early next
09:50week.
09:51So I would imagine those practices are going to be hard to try to prepare them for the elements when
09:54they get down to Jacksonville and Tampa to start the season.
09:57But really for this team now, it's all go.
10:00Todd Munkin told me last week on the Todd Munkin Show that about on Wednesday of this week,
10:04they will transition from, you know, good on good into full-on game season prep mode.
10:09And that's really when they're going to start the march towards Jacksonville and trying to get their season opening win
10:13on the road.
10:15They certainly have some sunny days ahead of them, Nathan Zaguro.
10:19Yes, they do.
10:20And they're not staying home.
10:21They're out there working at them.
10:23Yes, they are.
10:24Nathan, thank you very much for the time.
10:26Enjoy your weekend.
10:26All the very best.
10:27We'll talk to you next week, friend.
10:29All right.
10:30You got it, guys.
10:31Nathan Zaguro.
