00:00Elton Jenkins will not be playing in this game.
00:01He is ruled out.
00:02Both Jenkins ruled out for the Browns, but Elton Jenkins not playing.
00:05And it's funny because, I mean, he really is having a pretty impactful year.
00:09And you want to look at his overall grade on PFF.
00:12He's about middle of the pack.
00:14But his pass block grade is the very best among all centers in the NFL.
00:19He's doing a stand-up job.
00:20Yeah, he really has.
00:22And for as many operational issues that this team has had,
00:26and that's been such a hot-button word since the summer,
00:30the one thing that has actually seemed pretty smooth, Jonathan,
00:34even dating back to training camp, is that center quarterback snap exchange.
00:39Knock on wood, we have not had a big flub with that,
00:42even though this is a rebuilt offensive line.
00:44And this is Elton Jenkins and Deshaun Watson's first regular season ever playing together.
00:50Obviously, there's going to be a huge new wrinkle in all that now with Lou Whipler.
00:54Whipler and Deshaun do have familiarity just because he's been around
00:58and he's been depth in the building.
01:00But that is going to be a big blow, especially when Cam Hayward is the guy on the other side
01:07of it.
01:07That feels like a substantial blow.
01:09Well, I think Munkin, I think he put out that it was going to be Whipler
01:12because he didn't want us to do the conversation about if it's Brailsford
01:15and you have three rookies starting on the offensive line.
01:17It would have been tough.
01:18And we like Spencer.
01:19And obviously, you know, Austin Barber had a penalty this last week,
01:22but he's been pretty good overall.
01:23I think a lot of people really like him.
01:25And so it would have been really tough, even though both,
01:28I'd say both rookies so far have done an adequate to good job.
01:31It'd be really tough to turn around and be like,
01:33now you have three rookies starting on the offensive line.
01:35That's not great.
01:36And it's week four.
01:37Yeah, that's not great.
01:38Maybe we get there at some point in the season,
01:40but I would like to, you know, wait until weeks.
01:43We're in the late teens.
01:45Now, in a run block perspective, he was not grading out the highest according to PFF.
01:49He was 25th out of 32.
01:50And it's kind of funny how this offensive line has worked where,
01:53and this is maybe some of the Quinchon conversation that we can get into.
01:56The offensive line has pass block grades that are through the roof as a whole,
02:01but their run block grades aren't the greatest.
02:03And so it is one of those things where it's like, you know,
02:06sometimes you got to figure out what you can do and what you can't do.
02:09And it's like, you can have Quinchon struggling and also blame that partly on the offensive line
02:13while also saying, yeah, Deshaun looks like he's got a lot of time
02:16and a lot of chances to throw the ball deep, or he's not taking them,
02:20but he's got a lot of chances to throw the ball deep
02:21and say the offensive line is doing a good job there.
02:24It felt like Quinchon's successful runs were coming between the tackles, up the middle.
02:29So even though that run grade is what it is on PFF,
02:33I just don't love the fact that you're going to be without your starting center in this game.
02:37Oh, no, it's brutal. I mean, absolutely brutal.
02:38Now you're telling me which one is more impactful for tomorrow night.
02:41Joey Porter Jr., one of the best cornerbacks in the league not playing, or Elton Jenkins.
02:45I'm saying JPJ not being on the field is much bigger ball to Pittsburgh than us losing our center.
02:51Especially now, and it's crazy to do this because we've never gotten to do this before.
02:55We've got playmakers to be excited about.
02:57Like, we've got guys on offense that that defensive meeting room today in Pittsburgh
03:02has to circle while they're on their bus ride over here.
03:05They've got to say, hey, defensively, we've got to be on the lookout for Denzel Boston.
03:08This is a big guy that could hurt us with his legs.
03:11Casey Concepcion is a burner that hasn't had an opportunity to do stuff yet.
03:15Harold Fannin already looks like one of the best tight ends in the sport, and he's just 22.
03:19So they do actually have a bunch of Browns receivers that they're going to have to be worried about,
03:25and now it's going to be up to really Ramsey and his broken wrist.
03:28His broken wrist.
03:29They're pretty thin at safety, too.
03:31What a tough guy.
03:32It's Jaquan Brisker and Rayshon Jenkins who was playing special teams here last year.
03:36Sometimes when football players are like, ah, we're the toughest, I just kind of roll my eyes
03:40because I've seen guys go out for getting the wind knocked out of them.
03:44I'm like, not everyone's tough.
03:45I watch too much Jed Wills play football for me to be like, everyone's universally tough.
03:50But then you've got guys like Jalen Ramsey.
03:51Legitimately breaks his wrist and is out there playing games and playing through it all.
03:55That's nuts.
03:56It's crazy.
03:57It's crazy to think about.
03:57I don't even know how that, from a fundamental level, I don't even know if the Browns can find a
04:03way to attack that
04:04or do something with that.
04:05It's just kind of wild to me.
04:07But all right, so anyway, you asked Ashley about the quarterback situation,
04:10and Ross Tucker joining us coming up in about 15 minutes or so.
04:13But you asked her about the quarterback situation.
04:15I do think you bring an interesting perspective to the table here.
04:18Or an interesting thought.
04:20The whole point of putting Dylan on the IR was the idea that by the time you took him off,
04:26Deshaun Watson was probably going to be bad, and then that would just be your answer.
04:30And then it would be Shador, it would be Dylan, and it would be green.
04:34It would just kind of be what it is.
04:36What do the Browns do now?
04:37It's going to be fascinating to see what they do now.
04:40So Jeremy Fowler, in his same report that we mentioned earlier about Marvin Harrison Jr.,
04:45did have a note that the Browns would probably welcome a deal at the right price for one of their
04:52backup quarterbacks.
04:53Yeah, Mary Kay said this last weekend that they're not interested in Shador or Dylan being dealt.
04:57And I'm not taking that to mean that they're interested in dealing green.
05:01I don't think he's got much of a market at this point.
05:04And I don't know what the market for Shador or Dylan really are to this point either,
05:09because we haven't seen those guys in quite a bit.
05:11Like Dylan put together some great tape in the preseason, that finale against New England,
05:17but then he's been on the IR.
05:19He hasn't even practiced in four weeks.
05:21And he went on the IR in a way that, again, if this was league offices, we couldn't talk this
05:26way,
05:26but it's two people on Sports Talk Radio can talk, so it just is what it is.
05:29It's like he went on the IR in a way that we all think is real sketchy.
05:34It was clever.
05:35Oh, that's fun.
05:35That's a nice way to put that.
05:36Clever instead of sketchy.
05:37So here's a conversation that I had, Jonathan.
05:41Yeah, all right.
05:43If Dylan and his agent were down to play ball with the sketchiness of the IR.
05:49And they clearly were for at least the first four weeks of the season.
05:51What do you need to guarantee that, hey, we're not getting cut when we're back?
05:54We're guaranteed a spot.
05:55Okay.
05:57If we're going to play ball with you for four weeks.
05:59Yeah, if we're in the shadows of this to begin with, if we're playing in the – it's basically like
06:04the dark web of NFL transactions.
06:08The unspokens of the NFL transactions.
06:11Yeah, the place you don't want to go to, okay?
06:12Right.
06:13If we're there, then yeah, if I was Dylan, I'm going to go back on for four more weeks so
06:16they can try to figure out what happens with Deshaun.
06:18Yeah, I'd probably want some guarantees.
06:19Yeah.
06:19I wouldn't want a guarantees to go on for the first four games though.
06:23So if I got a guaranteed spot going to Dylan, I got Taylor Green who I drafted in round six
06:29and Munkin has spoke glowingly of him.
06:32Deshaun's the starter and playing well.
06:34I just wonder what happens.
06:36There's four quarterbacks and the thing with the shadiness with Dylan's IR stint is if he's saying that he's healthy
06:43and ready to go,
06:44they're going to have to activate him because the NFL PA gets involved and then we got ourselves in a
06:49whole world of uglyness.
06:50Aren't you looking at this season a little bit differently if you're the Browns,
06:53if you think you only have to play Deshaun Watson instead of having to play potentially four quarterbacks?
06:57But they can't be naive.
07:00Just because these first three weeks you've had a little bit of fun, I don't want to see them getting
07:04naive.
07:04Deshaun's way too injured of a quarterback to ever truly rely on that.
07:08Right.
07:08But even let's say this way then, if you think that Deshaun, again, health is always going to be a
07:12part of this conversation,
07:13but if you think Deshaun has bought himself at least to the bye week,
07:16then the obvious next step of that would be we only need one other quarterback.
07:19More likely than not, you only need one and you're probably not going to need,
07:23this is going to be a season where they need five quarterbacks like a couple years ago
07:27when they had to get Flacco off of his couch.
07:29Like this season's pretty, it's pretty cut and dry because Deshaun didn't fall flat on his face.
07:34Which makes you wonder, you know, this Fowler report being out there that they'd welcome a deal at the right
07:40price.
07:40What's that price?
07:41Like Dylan was a third round draft pick that they overdrafted and pretty much everybody knew that.
07:46The minute the card was read and his name was announced at the draft,
07:51Shador was a fifth round pick that seemingly nobody wanted.
07:54But J.J. McCarthy just went for a fifth round pick though.
07:56Like you think, you think Shador is getting a fifth round,
07:57but when J.J. McCarthy is getting a fifth round pick, you think Shador is?
08:00You think Dylan is?
08:02No.
08:02No way.
08:02No chance.
08:03Not, not, again, when J.J. McCarthy and J.J. McCarthy isn't good,
08:06but J.J. McCarthy still has the draft pedigree and everything that comes with him.
08:11When he's getting a fifth round pick, like I'm sorry guys,
08:13you're not getting anything more than, I mean,
08:15you're getting a bag of footballs for those guys.
08:17That's it.
08:18Yeah.
08:18Which is why it's always been sensible for the Browns to keep them on the roster
08:21and just kind of ride this thing out.
08:23Even if at the end of the season, you end up drafting a quarterback in 2027
08:26and you blow the whole quarterback room up to begin with.
08:30You're looking at like a 2032 seventh round pick for either one of these cats.
08:38Because Deshaun's not going anywhere because of the dead cap if they move them.
08:41Either one of these cats?
08:42You know Deshaun's going to be here.
08:44You're like a 1970s jazz band?
08:46What's going on here?
08:48We're kind of stuck in this situation.
08:51I like when you call people cats.
08:54Sometimes you really show your stoner side and I really enjoy it.
08:57Sometimes I'm like, all right, are we just dazed and confused over here?
09:01Every now and again.
09:02But I appreciate it.
09:03Oh, you're getting red now.
09:04He's getting red.
