00:00Good morning, Ty Law.
00:02Good morning, y'all.
00:04It was a great morning.
00:054 to 5, 17.
00:07Yeah.
00:08I mean, huge win.
00:10And before we get to that, it was so awesome to see all of you
00:16and your teammates back there this weekend at Gillette.
00:19How was that experience for you, Ty?
00:21I mean, the experience was great.
00:23It's always good to see the guys.
00:25And the crazy part, we never left the loft.
00:30We never left the locker room when we get together.
00:31I mean, some guys haven't seen each other for years.
00:33Of course, we keep in touch.
00:35But when we get all the guys back together, it's a great time.
00:39We hung out.
00:40Where the hell was you at, Wiggy?
00:41I had a family emergency, brother.
00:44I'll text you about it later.
00:45Oh, sorry, sorry.
00:45Yeah, no, worry about it.
00:46Okay, all right.
00:47Okay, all right.
00:48Sorry about that, man.
00:49No, that was all good.
00:51Yeah, yeah.
00:51But it was a great time, man, seeing old Lori Malloy.
00:54Everybody got a little bit more gray on them now.
00:55I will say that.
00:57But for the most part, our 2001, we're still looking good compared to some of them other teams.
01:02I ain't going to lie.
01:03I ain't going to lie.
01:04We still look pretty good.
01:07Well, Curtis's lead this morning was a bit of disappointment that Tom Brady and Bill Belichick were not there.
01:15Did they send a video to you guys?
01:17Did they communicate at all?
01:18Did they give a call or anything?
01:21Well, to be honest with you, I was working and I got to the dinner late.
01:24I missed it.
01:26I missed Kraft when he was there because I was out there doing my thing.
01:29But, I mean, Tom was working to call him the game.
01:32Bill Belichick, you know, he's coaching.
01:35He got his guys down there.
01:36I don't, I mean, it's a whole lot of people that you would have liked to have probably seen that
01:41couldn't make it for whatever reasons.
01:43But, you know, Tom, we understand that he's working.
01:46I mean, he does.
01:47He is with the Raiders.
01:48But, I mean, it could have been a conflict.
01:50I have no idea.
01:51But I heard he was calling the game.
01:53Was that true?
01:54Yeah.
01:54Yeah.
01:54Yeah, he's called the Raiders.
01:56I mean, Seattle.
01:57Well, hell, if you're getting $37 million a year to call a game, that's where the hell you got to
02:01go.
02:01Yeah, you got a job.
02:03Ty, when you look at, like, I think a lot of...
02:06I'll say this real quick.
02:07Let me say this real quick.
02:08Give me $37 million.
02:09I ain't showing up.
02:10Hey, I'll send y'all a video.
02:12I'll call all y'all.
02:13I'll put you on the group text.
02:15But $37 million a year, damn it, I'm going to work.
02:19You ain't lying about that.
02:20Ty, when you start to look at this team and you start to look at maybe some of the fight,
02:25I know everybody always compares every, you know, Patriots team to what we had back in 0-1.
02:33Are there anything that you see from just, like, looking at this team that you say,
02:37oh, okay, they had a little bit of what we had?
02:41The resilience, because, you know, you still got a lot of your dogs down.
02:45You know, A.J. Brown is out.
02:48Christian Gonzalez was out.
02:49So when you get your main core guys and you're able to pull off wins like that,
02:54Drake May is doing his best version of Tom Brady.
02:58He is spreading the ball around and he's carrying the team right now.
03:01All the flack that we were giving him for a couple weeks, guess what?
03:05All that, when you play like that, all that's a race.
03:08I mean, I've been seeing some Drake May have MVP already after these last two games.
03:13I was like, damn how things change.
03:15Damn things change quick.
03:17So they do show the resilience and the willingness to play as a team.
03:21You never know who's going to make the next play,
03:23and that's what's reminiscent of our old teams.
03:25You never know who was going to be the guy that day, whether, of course, you got Tom Brady.
03:31You don't know if it's going to be Troy Brown, Antoine Smith.
03:35You never know who was going to make the play on the defense.
03:38I mean, it's great to see out there, and I think they're going to just continue to improve
03:42and get more confidence as we move forward with the season.
03:46And guess what?
03:47It's a great game to keep it going versus the Jets.
03:51I mean, come on.
03:52You've got to beat them, but it's always going to be a tough fight because it's in the division,
03:55so you can't sleep on it because this is a set-up game.
03:58You know how it is.
03:59It's a set-up.
04:01Don't get too confident.
04:03Ty, you bring up the injuries.
04:04How much credit do you give to Mike Rabel for having that next-guy-up mentality and those guys ready
04:09to go?
04:09Because it does seem like they are suffering more injuries than maybe other teams around the league so early in
04:14the season.
04:17But Mike comes from that school, you know, where they quote-unquote the Patriot way.
04:23He's the best guy to lead this team in a situation like that because he's been there.
04:28That's how our mentality was.
04:30You know, Wiggy, next man up.
04:31It even started with the quarterback.
04:33The next man up became the greatest quarterback of all time.
04:36So you have to be available, and if you get your opportunity, take advantage of it, and that's what these
04:45guys are doing.
04:45So they're not just playing for the Patriots right now.
04:49To be honest with you in this business, when you get your opportunity, you play for all 31 other teams
04:55out there too
04:55because you create an opportunity for yourself.
04:59It's a thing called free agency.
05:01So when you get your opportunity, you might not be starting here, but if you play well enough in your
05:06time,
05:06then you're going to get an opportunity to start for another team.
05:08So that's just how the NFL works.
05:10Ty, when you start to just look at this team defensively, and I know they were able to make some
05:17plays
05:17without a lot of key players on that defense, but they consistently show that, you know,
05:23they don't give up a lot of points.
05:24They do a good job against the pass.
05:27They get after it.
05:27When you have a team like that that is defensively led and has that capability,
05:35what makes it so difficult to beat a team like that?
05:40It's that bend-but-don't-break mentality.
05:42I mean, it's been times that you can give up drives, but you give up three instead of seven,
05:47and your offense is good enough to put points on the board with anybody.
05:52You can, I mean, not giving up seven points is the key.
05:56That was one of the keys for us.
05:58You know, you might, you know, get some good runs, but you're not getting in the end zone.
06:02I mean, you get in field goal range, so you better make it.
06:05And I think that's what the Patriots are showing is that they are not going to give up easy touchdowns.
06:12They're going to make you earn it all the way downfield.
06:14And when you get into the red zone, I mean, they have a knack for keeping you out of the
06:20end zone.
06:21You know what I mean?
06:21They're holding you to that field goal.
06:23That is the key, because all those guys on the other side, you know, get paid a lot of money,
06:28too.
06:28So when it comes down to those crucial situations, you know, on that crucial third down,
06:33or if you're down there in the red zone in scoring position, can you hold them to three points?
06:38And I think that's what the Patriots are great at doing.
06:41Ty, we talked a lot about that 0-1 team and the build-up to the anniversary celebration over the
06:45weekend.
06:46Would you put the Snow Bowl as the most memorable game you were ever a part of?
06:53Absolutely.
06:53As far as memories, to get there, we're closing out the stadium.
06:58I mean, it just had so much, the tough rule, the kick.
07:02I mean, it was so much drama into that game, and that kind of, you know, that was it.
07:08But if you ask everybody, what's the greatest experience?
07:11Of course, it's winning the Super Bowl.
07:13But as far as the memorable game and how it all played out, how fun it was to play,
07:19you're talking about the field conditions weren't the best people trying.
07:25You had to play a little bit different than you normally would because of the footing.
07:29And just what was on the line, that is always going to stand out as one of the most memorable
07:34games for most of us.
07:35But the most important game, of course, is winning that first Super Bowl.
07:38Ty, question for you on the Subaru of New England text line, 617 text.
07:44Do you believe that the lack of hitting in camp is a factor when it comes to the injuries?
07:52Hell yeah.
07:53You got, you got, see, it's one of those double-edged swords, Gray, because you want to preserve the players
08:00because it's always game time.
08:03I mean, that's where the, that's where the real checks start coming and everything else.
08:07You get to play a little, hopefully you get to play a little bit longer.
08:09So their, their reasonings behind it is to preserve players' safety.
08:14But in football, in the way the game is and how fast the game goes, you have to have contact.
08:21You have to go out there.
08:22You got to put yourself in harm's way, you know, just to get better as a football player,
08:26to get used to falling and tackling and things like that.
08:29So it's one of the, it's a very fine line of what's enough and what's too much.
08:34And I think that they still have to figure that out, but you can't go out there and expect not
08:39to be physical in training camp
08:42and not play in the preseason, only play a couple plays here and there,
08:46then go out there and give it your all, look your best and feel ready to go when it comes
08:51game time,
08:52when the real bullets start to fly.
08:53So they got to figure that out.
08:54Question of the week for Ty is brought to you by 110 Grill, gluten-free dining done right.
08:59Courtney has it.
09:00We know that you had some issues and some worries about Drake May the first three weeks of the season
09:04when we talked to you.
09:05Have those gone away now that he's had back-to-back great performances?
09:10Yeah, all is forgiven.
09:12We forgive you, Drake.
09:14And guess what?
09:15Now, just don't give us nothing else to talk about because it's like negative because we got to say it.
09:21And I think that he listened, he heard us.
09:23So no one wants to hear that, not that he has to care by any means, but as a competitor,
09:29you don't want to have all that floating around.
09:32You want to eliminate that kind of stuff.
09:34I know if you start throwing at me, which that was kind of rare.
09:38I ain't nobody too much attacking me too much, Wiggy.
09:40But if you decided to, and I wasn't playing my best, damn it, hey, come back.
09:47Hey, I got to get this monkey up off my back.
09:49You know what I mean?
09:49Coach, put me over your air with him, man to man.
09:52I got to redeem myself.
09:54And I think that he has that type of mentality.
09:57So, you know, you kind of want to go into it and talk more junk about Drake May
10:02because it seems like it pisses him off, so we'll win.
10:05You know what I mean?
10:06That's the type of mentality I have.
10:07But I ain't going to do it, though.
10:08I ain't going to do it.
10:09We love Drake.
10:10All right.
10:10You got a score for us on Sunday?
10:13Oh, yeah.
10:14I mean, with this type of performance in the last two weeks,
10:16the New York Jets come to town not taking anything for granted,
10:20but I still think the Patriots – wait a minute.
10:24Let me ask you this first.
10:25Is A.J. Brown coming back this week?
10:26We don't know.
10:27Yeah, we don't know.
10:29Still up in the end.
10:30I wouldn't rush him.
10:31I would bring him back against the Bears and not have him have a short week
10:34in his return.
10:35I would have him on the bench.
10:38I mean, I could agree with you.
10:39I know he wants to get back out there, you know, play and be a part of this.
10:44And now Drake may have thrown the ball downfield.
10:46But I'll say – I'm going to say 31.
10:49I mean, Patriots, we go up to 31 this week, and I give New York –
10:55I give them 13 because they'll probably miss a damn field goal.
10:57That's a gist.
10:59All right, Ty Law, as always, great to talk to you,
11:03and we will talk to you again next week.
11:05All right?
11:06All right, Ty.
11:06Thanks, guys.
11:07All right.
11:08That's Ty Law.
