00:40When there is a mental mistake like that, and we talked yesterday with Mike Rabel about this
00:47and decision-making when it comes to Drake May, is that we went back and forth about
00:55who's talking to Drake and what Josh McDaniels is saying.
00:59Like, is that on the coaches to make sure he understands the situation that he's in
01:05and doesn't throw the interception, or is that on the player entirely by himself?
01:10I mean, it's a combination of both.
01:12I mean, the coach has to remind you, but we all got to understand that.
01:16When you're out there playing, things are going, you know, very fast.
01:20You have to make split decisions, and when – you know that as a professional.
01:26So the coach doesn't – they don't have to tell you, you know, that.
01:30Even though most coaches say, hey, understand the situation.
01:33Hey, this way let's not get a turnover, you know, and so on and so forth.
01:37But at the end of the day, you know, the onus falls on the player.
01:40Drake, you know.
01:41No, I don't give a damn if Josh McDaniels said throw the ball.
01:45You know not to do it.
01:47You know what I mean?
01:48So that's what I'm saying.
01:50So you got to put that on the player there.
01:51But like I said, it's early.
01:53It's the first game.
01:54You learn from it, and you move on.
01:56Ty, you look at that game, and Christian Gonzalez did actually a really good job on JSN,
02:02but there's times in the game where he's not on him.

02:07Because I feel like it should be like, hey, I got him the whole game, and that's it.

02:14Why do you think they go away from that as times as coaches?
02:20I don't know, and I think – I don't understand it.
02:24I mean, you come up and, you know, he earned every dollar that he got.
02:28He has the big contract, but you are the guy.
02:31You are the guy that's supposed to be on JSN wherever he goes.
02:34So if he go take a bathroom break, damn it, you take a bathroom break too.

02:38I'm going wherever he is going.
02:40And that's – I think that's a player's decision as well along with the coaches
02:45because I think Christian Gonzalez, he needs to be walking up in Mike Vrabel's office
02:50and say, look, I got the number one guy.
02:52I don't give a damn where he goes.
02:54Now, they might have that much faith in Carlton Davis too because, you know,
02:58he got a pretty good check of himself.

03:00Hey, he came on as a free agent, and he got paid well,
03:04so they might just have that much faith in whatever corner is out there.
03:08But Christian Gonzalez, to be the top cornerback in football,
03:12I think is his responsibility to cover the number one guy on the opposing team.
03:17I mean, that's just how I look at it.
03:18And that's coming from a cornerback who loves that type of challenge,
03:23and I wouldn't take nothing less.
03:25If it was ever a game plan going into it that I wasn't on the number one guy,
03:29damn it, I got to go see why.
03:30I'm going to coach Belichick and say, what the hell is going on?
03:33Why am I not here?
03:35And that was just me.
03:36So I'm just talking from personal experience, but, you know,
03:39everyone doesn't think like that.
03:41Ty, for the Drake apologists, they're saying, well, Seattle has such a great defense.
03:44That's why he screwed up so often.
03:47When you're watching that game in your eyes,
03:49what was Seattle able to do to make Drake get into his head so much?
03:55They said the offensive line, they did okay.
03:59I mean, I'm hearing a lot of praises going around with the offensive line.
04:02It was still a lot of pressure put on Drake May.
04:04They were bringing the pressure.
04:05There was a lot of guys that was coming scot-free,
04:09so he probably wasn't comfortable back there.
04:12You know, he had to use his legs, unfortunately, for Drake May
04:15and the Patriots that he can't get out of certain situations.
04:18But they put the pressure on him.
04:20So, I mean, hell of a job by their coordinator.
04:24Not so great of a job when it comes to the offensive line, in my opinion.
04:28But, yeah, it's tough back there when you never know where the pressure is coming
04:33because whether they sent pressure, they was getting there.
04:35And a lot of times people were winning the one-on-one battles up front.
04:39So, like I said, the line, decent job, but not a great job by any means.
04:44Hey, Ty, I thought the game plan was way too conservative.
04:48From McDaniels or Vrabel, whoever was in charge.
04:50What did you think of the Patriots' game plan
04:52and how they chose to attack that Seahawks defense?
04:57I mean, you start off running the ball, of course.
05:02I mean, they had some success with the run.
05:03But because, you know, they have so many different types of defenses
05:08and when they put pressure on you, you've got to try to keep them off balance.
05:12But as the game went on, it's time to do something.
05:16You've got to go up top.
05:17You've got to try to create some momentum for yourself
05:20because if you get into certain passing situations where we know you have to pass,
05:25that's advantage to those guys.
05:27So, I understand what Josh McDaniel was doing is trying to keep them off balance
05:30by using the run game.
05:32But at some point, when you've got a guy like A.J. Brown,
05:35and I know that we missed one on the flea flicker.
05:38But when he was out, but, you know, you've got to take advantage of that more
05:43when you've got a guy like him out there, man.
05:46I mean, take a couple shots downfield.
05:48That is, if you're keeping track, a little bit of cash for the swear jar from Ty Law
05:53with the S-bomb.

05:56I believe that S-bomb was heard most likely on SiriusXM, not over the public area.

06:35They did a great job all throughout the playoffs.
06:38My expectations for this offense was Drake May was going to take that next step.
06:42I'm concerned that, and I've been there before, you've probably been there,
06:47where one side of the ball is so good and the other side at times doesn't hold their weight,
06:53and it gets frustrating for the side of the ball that's carrying the other side.
06:59I'm just concerned that I don't want them to go down that road.
07:02Is there any chance you could see that if this continues and the offense doesn't carry its weight?
07:09I can't see that because the reality is with Drake May and the money that they got into the offense
07:17and A.J. Brown, they are the leaders of the team, you know, basically.
07:22Outside of Christian Gonzalez, I mean, it's basically an offensive-led team from a leadership standpoint.
07:29And I don't think that will happen, Wiggy, but it could.
07:33But you've got a guy like Mike Vrabel being your head coach, Josh, and he's been around it all.
07:38And being a player, I think he's going to be able to manage that, you know, pretty good.
07:43And like I say, when you walk into a meeting, it's Mike Vrabel talking, guys.
07:48You know what I mean?
07:48Three-time Super Bowl champion.
07:51He's been there.
07:52He's been in those same seats that you guys are sitting in.
07:54And so I think because of the head coach that you won't see anything like that happen within this organization.
08:01Ty, you always talk about, at least for the last couple of years we've had you on this show,
08:05going against teams and being scared of them.
08:08When you look at what the Patriots put out there for week one,
08:11is any team in the NFL looking at the Patriots and scared of them?
08:17Hell no.
08:18I mean, they know they're going to be well coached.
08:20They're going to, you know, pretty much be disciplined.
08:23And I think you've got the scare factor.
08:27When you've got a healthy A.J. Brown, I think he would make that much of an impact
08:33to where it would open up the offense a little bit because no one was scared of the Patriots' offense.
08:38Defensively, they're going to be solid.
08:41But, I mean, are they, you know, the greatest Patriot defense?
08:46I can't say that, you know, right now.
08:49But I think overall a good football team that just came off of a Super Bowl,
08:54you get some key pieces, quote-unquote A.J. Brown, you know,
08:59because I really think that it's going to make a difference if he can stay out there on the field.
09:03So, and, you know, as the season progressed, guys, anything can happen.
09:08You've got to stay healthy.
09:10You know, that's a major part.
09:12But one more year of experience, I think they'll be a better team than they were last year,
09:17even though they made the Super Bowl.
09:18But you have to stay healthy.
09:20And like I said, this is the first game.
09:22I'm not getting too shook up about it.

09:27I want to piggyback off this a little bit.
09:30But when the scare factor, right, like Josh Allen scares you.
09:36Lamar Jackson scares you.
09:37If you were in the league, would you be scared of Drake May?
09:45I mean, not from a standpoint where you talk about those guys.
09:49I mean, when you compare them to them, yeah, I mean, I'm not going to be scared of him,
09:53but I would definitely respect him.
09:54You've got to respect Drake May.
09:56You've got to respect his leg.
09:57You've got to respect his arm, especially down the field, his accuracy.
10:01But it's a different ball game when you're talking about Lamar Jackson,
10:05what he can do with those legs.

10:11And Drake is probably going to slide.
10:13What about Caleb Williams?
10:15You've got to worry about him running you over.

10:18So that's a different ball game when they break contain and they start running,
10:22in my opinion.
10:23I mean, they're a level above Drake May in that aspect.

10:51His growth since he came into this league, you know, we see it.

10:57And he's a good player, probably going to be a great player when it's all said and done.

12:35So think about what we're comparing him to and what we're used to seeing to have success.
12:40So he's always going to have that pressure on him.
12:42But I think he'll come out of the shell, you know, at some point.
12:46Tom wasn't as vocal in the early years.
12:48He grew into that.
12:49He grew into that leadership position.
12:51So I think we've got to give Drake a little time.
12:54But, yes, we've got to hold him accountable because, you know, unfortunately for you,
13:00that you came into a situation where we had the greatest of all time.
13:04So those comparisons, anything that you do are always going to be there.

13:09But guess what?
13:10The bar, the standard is so high.

13:13Hold yourself accountable, too.
13:15You know, say, you know, I understand this, Tom Brady, but, damn it, watch this.
13:19You know, I'm going to be the best version of Drake May.
13:21And once he come into his own and the team rallies behind him, you know,
13:27like I know they will, you know, he'll be more vocal.
13:30We'll probably see more of that fire come out.
