00:00What do you think people are more mad in Cleveland about right now, J.P.?
00:03Quinshawn Judkins and whatever that performance was,
00:06or Isaiah Bond and whatever that performance was?
00:08Isaiah Bond.
00:10Quinshawn is just wash, rinse, repeat.
00:11This is now five weeks of this, and we gave you the Panthers game,
00:14which is one of the worst run defenses in the NFL,
00:16and now we've given you the Jets game,
00:18which is one of the worst run defenses in the NFL,
00:20and you haven't been able to come through, but that's nothing new there.
00:23Isaiah Bond hasn't been one of the greatest players we've ever seen,
00:26but those were two critical drops that he had.
00:28And so, yeah, I think a lot of the blame,
00:30or at least a lot of the anger is centered towards Isaiah Bond today and not Quinshawn.
00:34It's interesting.
00:34I can almost understand the drops because of the weather.
00:38And I thought, you know, we played that piece of audio in the break
00:41where you heard Todd Munkin say, yeah, they played in a two.
00:44They also had drops.
00:46They also had plenty of fumbles.
00:48The one that infuriated me the most was Deshawn makes a great play to escape pressure.
00:54He wiggles out, throws a dime.
00:56Isaiah catches it.
00:57So, Isaiah really didn't look like he had anyone ahead of him,
01:00and he ran out of the bounce.
01:02Yeah, just goes right out of the bounce.
01:03And that was the one, like, why I lumped Quinshawn and Isaiah together
01:09is they both made critical mental errors in this game that had huge impacts on the outcome.
01:16Well, it was almost like Isaiah caught that pass and then was so proud of himself,
01:19was like, I just want to take the win.
01:21I just, I don't want to, I don't want to end up fumbling this ball.
01:22I don't want to end up getting anyone in trouble or anything.
01:24I just want to, I want to take the win and I'm just going to step my way out of
01:27bounds
01:28and we'll call the play a play.
01:29So, I thought it was interesting.
01:30I know people accused him online of saying, what was that?
01:33It was like, oh, he was just thinking too much about his celebration.
01:36I do think it's a simplest young player who probably didn't think he was going to see a lot of
01:41time
01:41and he just brain farted after a good play.
01:43I do think it just short-circuited him.
01:46The Quinshawn thing, it seems so small, but running out of bounds on first and 10,
01:52when you've got a two-point lead, why that killed me so much was,
01:58to me it was a sign of a complete, he's not there mentally.
02:02It's clear that whatever's happening in front of him,
02:05and I think the offensive line is part of this,
02:08Quinshawn's not, he's second-guessing everything he's doing right now.
02:12And so, the timing of which that happened,
02:15like, I, if Quinshawn's healthy enough to play against the Ravens
02:20and we're still getting 80-20% touches,
02:25at some point the Browns are self-sabotaging by putting him out there.
02:29He doesn't look like he has a feel of the offensive line and where the pocket is.
02:34He doesn't look like he's got a, he had some oopsies in run-blocking this weekend
02:38that were, they weren't full olays,
02:41but they certainly did not help the offensive line or Deshawn,
02:45which were struggling immensely.
02:46He looks like a guy out of place, and I know he's more talented.
02:50I do, I still think he's going to have a good career,
02:52but right now, I think his struggles are compounding
02:56the offensive line struggles and the run game struggles.
03:00If Dylan Sampson is able to be activated,
03:03between Sampson and Rocket Sanders,
03:04I'm just seeing these other guys deliver in smaller amounts,
03:08and at some point you would think,
03:09well, yep, Quinshawn was a second-round pick,
03:12but we got to run the damn ball here.
03:14His longest run this season is 14 yards.
03:16It just hasn't been good enough.
03:18You say you think he's going to have a good career.
03:20He's got one 100-yard game in his entire NFL career.
03:23Like, at some point, you do have to turn around
03:26and say to yourself, the production has to be better
03:27if I'm going to say he's going to eventually have a good NFL career.
03:30So, this is Todd Munkin talking about the correlation between shotgun usage,
03:36running out of the gun, and the Browns running struggles.
03:39We're still trying to figure out, in a lot of ways,
03:42who we are offensively, what our strengths are,
03:45and what our weaknesses are as players, as collectively, as a staff.
03:49So, we're always under construction,
03:51and that's always subject to change in terms of what we feel like
03:54gives us the best chance to move the ball, run, or pass.
03:57Now, I actually think, I can't remember,
04:00it might have been Oya Fousey that asked it.
04:02I do think the being out of the gun versus being under center
04:06matters to some running backs and their production,
04:09and it does tend to affect guys that are north-south runners.
04:13What is crazy about it is it doesn't seem to impact Rocket Sanders,
04:17who I think of as a north and south runner,
04:20the same way I think about Quinchon.
04:21So, like, there's an element of it, like, I understand my –
04:24but, guys, I've got to be honest with you,
04:26I think they run the shotgun a lot out of Ohio State.
04:28I just – I can't figure out whether that's the deal,
04:31but it's still – it's not worth – it's not worth kind of putting up
04:34with this substandard production,
04:36even though there were about three or four really nice runs
04:39from Quinchon in this game.
04:40The problem is the other 10 or 15.
04:42All right, so what are you doing?
04:43Upping Rocket Sanders carries?
04:46Is that what this is?
04:46And Samson.
04:47He's got three carries – or he had three carries yesterday for 12 yards.
04:50He averaged four yards a carry.
04:51I'd probably just do a running back by committee
04:54and just start cycling them in more.
04:57I mean, it's – even, like, with Quinchon yesterday,
05:00I actually think that's a – for as rainy as it was
05:03and what you thought that offense was going to be yesterday,
05:05where you just thought everyone was going to run the ball a ton
05:07and you weren't going to be able to go vertical at all
05:09because that's how the weather's set up for it,
05:10you only got 14 carries in yesterday's game.
05:13Like, clearly, I think what Munkin's trying to do is he's trying to –
05:16and these – the touches we're talking about going to other people,
05:20they're not really going to other people.
05:21He's just trying to – he's using Deshaun as the second back.
05:24Yeah, or the short passing game.
05:26But I think at some point you're going to – I think there are –
05:29And even that was a step backwards for Quinchon yesterday.
05:31Well, I was going to say there's going to be some diminishing returns
05:33with Deshaun.
05:34Like, yep, there's – you can use the games –
05:38and you can use the ground game in a specific way.
05:41I think some of the Deshaun stuff just came
05:43because the guy was running for his life.
05:45Like, we'll get into the Deshaun side of this.
05:47I don't have a lot of criticism for Deshaun.
05:49And I was furious at the end of the game
05:50because he looked like he massively reverted.
05:53Like, he looked scared at the end of the game.
05:56Honestly, after eight sacks and countless pressures,
05:59I probably would have – I probably would have a little bit of reversion too.
06:03I don't know any quarterback that could have existed
06:05under those circumstances and not have had an awful day at the office.
06:10Yeah, I mean, he was beat up.
06:11There's just no other way to put it.
06:12He was beat up, but I think it's interesting.
06:14I don't know what the Browns do because they put so much into Quinshaun
06:17being much better than he is right now.
06:19And he just isn't, Nick.
06:20And I just – I don't know how many weeks you can wait until he turns it around
06:22because I don't know that he's going to turn it around.
06:24All right, why is – what's the deal with Quinshaun Judkins?
06:28Doug and Akron.
06:29We got about a minute, buddy.
06:29What you got for us?
06:33Yo, Doug.
06:34Oh, Doug.
06:35Dougie, Dougie, Dougie.
06:35Hey, Dougie.
06:36Hey, Dougie.
06:36Hey, Dougie.
06:37Hey, Dougie.
06:37What's up, buddy?
06:38There he is.
06:39There he is.
06:40How are you guys today?
06:41Doing all right.
06:42We got about 45 seconds, buddy.
06:44What you got for us?
06:45Okay.
06:45I saw the Browns defense look good yesterday.
06:49And, boy, did they look good yesterday.
06:51And Deshaun, I don't know.
06:54If they're going to – when are they going to start Sanders?
06:57And thanks for taking my call.
06:59I will listen to you guys on the answer.
07:01I appreciate you.
07:02We were just talking about Rocket Sanders.
07:04Yeah.
07:04Oh, not that Sanders?
07:06I don't think that's a game you move on from Deshaun.
07:08Deshaun wasn't flawless yesterday.
07:10No way about that.
07:12But he can't overcome everything that – he can't overcome – it was five drops.
07:18He can't – especially critical drops.
07:20He can't overcome the lack of protection.
07:24I thought Deshaun had a bad game, but I thought it was all defensible within what was happening around him.
07:30He can't overcome all of that.
07:32Well, I know.
07:33It's hard to overcome all of that.
07:34He was bad, though.
07:35Yeah.
07:35It's okay to say he was bad.
07:37I mean, he was bad.
07:37He didn't play good football, but also there was a lot he had to overcome.
07:40It almost feels like –
07:41At least he made a couple plays, though.
07:43I mean, he did make a couple plays you've got to give him credit for.
07:46Like Isaiah Bond when he didn't turn up the field.
07:48That was an incredible play.
07:49Yeah, but it almost feels like a lot of the Shador games that we watched last year where you look
07:52around and you're like,
07:53like, okay, so the offensive line wasn't very good.
07:55The run game wasn't very good.
07:56You had drops galore.
07:57Like, how much can I actually put at Deshaun's feet for yesterday?
08:01So, the funny thing about that is for the first three quarters, I almost want to give him a little
08:05bit of the old Peterlin pass.
08:06And then the final three drives where you go –
08:08The Peterlin pass.
08:09Yeah, thank you.
08:09You go fumble, turnover, fumble for negative 27 yards.
08:13I just kind of go right back into my hole.
08:14Yeah, the last drive was the one that had me mother bleeping the screen.
08:20I don't think he was put in a good position.
08:22This is where I'm going to throw a little on Munkin, too.
08:24I don't think he was put in a good position.
08:26When Quinchon goes out of bounds on that first play, I think they pivoted away from,
08:30we're going to make the Jets use their timeouts, and I think they pivoted right into,
08:35we're going to line up and get Deshaun Watson absolutely massacred on the next two drives,
08:40and that's exactly what happened.
08:41Well, I mean, how many more batted balls can you have in that drive, though?
08:44I mean, it doesn't help Deshaun was throwing it right into the defenders' hands
08:46three straight plays.
08:48That's on the offensive line.
08:49The offensive line's got to pull the hands down of the defensive line.
08:51No, that's a real thing.
08:52I know it's a real thing, but it's also ridiculous.
08:55I mean, you can't – batted balls still fall at the feet of the quarterback
08:58as much as they do the offensive line.
09:01I'm going to give the tie to the runner and the fact that the offensive line sucked all day.
09:05You just want to hit on the offensive line, and that's fine.
09:07No, and hit on is not strong enough.
09:09I need to tee off on the offensive line.
09:11That is top five worst performances I've ever seen from an offensive line,
09:17and I don't care.
09:19Like, Deshaun had some responsibility in some of those sacks.
09:22Yes, yes.
09:23He might have been a little skittish because of what was going on around him, though.
09:27It all ties back to how dog bleeped that O-line was.
09:30Doesn't matter what the name of the back of the jersey was.
09:32the top five lapse.
