00:00He's our buddy from the Browns Radio Network.
00:02He's the pride of Bedford.
00:03He's spent time with a bunch of different NFL teams.
00:07After playing for the Ohio State Buckeyes, he's Mr. Tyvus Powell.
00:11Hello, Tyvus.
00:12Hello, Tyvus.
00:13How are you gentlemen doing?
00:15Hey, how is the handshake today?
00:17Are you two guys coordinated enough to slap hands?
00:21I have no idea what you're talking about.
00:23No issue with me, Tyvus.
00:26It's not you I'm concerned about, Jeff.
00:28You're worried about my ability to high five?
00:31Is that what the problem is?
00:33Go back and watch the replay.
00:35I have people defending me on social media that I didn't expect.
00:39And they came out and said no.
00:41They said, first of all, he knew the home run was going over the wall before anybody else.
00:47I don't know if that's true or not.
00:49And then the other part was I was more like saying, get out of here.
00:52And then the other part was I missed.
00:54So that is what it is.
00:55Andy, you got to watch the elbow.
00:57Didn't nobody ever teach you that?
00:58You're supposed to watch the elbow.
01:00I think I had my hand up first.
01:01I was waiting for the five.
01:04I wasn't the aggressor in the high five.
01:06It doesn't matter because they won.
01:08Does it matter?
01:10The best part is that you couldn't tell and that I know that you're a little bit of a hockey
01:16fan there down in Columbus.
01:17Ty Domi was also there and he was the guy I turned around to.
01:21And we had no problem high-fiving as well.
01:24Okay.
01:25Let's blame it on the distance.
01:29I can't blame it on the rain, can I?
01:31To give everybody a little idea of what they're talking about, Andy was rubbing elbows with the rich at the
01:37game.
01:37It wasn't that I was rubbing.
01:39I just happened to be sitting in a seat.
01:40That's all.
01:40Just like anybody else would be.
01:42Yeah.
01:43So what if Travis Kelsey was in front of me?
01:45Who cares?
01:46Paul Dolan was near you.
01:48So what?
01:49All right, Travis.
01:51Must be nice being Andy.
01:53It's got to be good to be Andy Baskin.
01:55Come on, man.
01:55You get to go to a different Big Ten city every Saturday.
01:58It must be nice to you, too.
02:00That's fun.
02:01I get to.
02:02You have a great gig, dude.
02:04That gig on Big Ten Network is awesome.
02:06I love watching you do it, too, by the way.
02:09They paid me a decent amount of money to go have fun, and I love it.
02:13That's fitting for your personality.
02:16Yes.
02:17Okay, so it's 17-12, and they lose, and then you had a fourth quarter where, hey, they have the
02:23lead with a fourth quarter touchdown.
02:24And then two opportunities to follow that up, and they didn't do it.
02:28Is the takeaway incredibly bad from this game, Tyvus, or is this one of those games that's like, okay, well,
02:35you lost a football game?
02:37I think that it's you just lost a football game, but it's the fashion that you lost a football game.
02:43It's something that can be corrected, and I don't want fans to be like, oh, well, we're back to square
02:48one.
02:49You know, the team is who we thought they were.
02:51I feel like that's kind of the sentiment that I'm getting out of the game, and I don't think that
02:56that's true.
02:56I think when you look at it, the last four minutes was terrible.
03:03You know, we had the first down run that went out of bounds, the two incompletions.
03:08You didn't make them use their timeouts.
03:10I think that that could make a difference.
03:11And then if the condition is better, Corey Borges would never let the ball slip through his hands and then
03:17give him the ball back in that territory.
03:19So, like, I just feel like it's not, like, the coaching was off in the four-minute.
03:25The execution of the four-minute drive was terrible.
03:28But then the weather actually played a factor into why you actually lost, you know.
03:34So I think that it could be corrected.
03:36I really do.
03:38I do think that the glaring issues is still the run game and that Deshaun Watson, Hope, held the ball
03:43a little, a tad bit longer than he has in the past couple of games.
03:47And I think that those two things made a difference.
03:53I'm looking at a million different reasons why they didn't finish yesterday, and it's hard for me not to want
03:58to just – I want to point the finger in different directions.
04:00But no one's really talking about coaching towards the end there.
04:04And, you know, a nine-second drive is not – I mean, I don't know.
04:10Who do you blame on that?
04:13That's coaching, 100%.
04:14And, you know, you can't say it's because Todd is a first-time head coach.
04:18He's not a first-time play caller, you know.
04:20So he knew what to do in that situation.
04:23I don't know why it went the way it did.
04:26Like, that to me, at worst, you make the Jets use their timeouts, you know.
04:30Like, do that.
04:31Run the clock down a little bit or something like that.
04:34Now, at the end of the day, would it have mattered if Corey was going to let the ball slip
04:38through his hands?
04:38No.
04:39But still, I feel like in the more – moving to the future, if this scenario comes up again, you've
04:47got to be much better in that.
04:48That execution has got to be much better on the play call inside.
04:51Run the ball.
04:52Because although it wasn't working, and I don't know, maybe it was because Quinshawn was out,
04:57but Rocky Sanders has been pretty good coming in there.
04:59So you can't – don't blame it on the fact that you didn't have a bash.
05:02I will say we've got to do a little bit more of getting out of the shotgun.
05:06I know that's Deshaun Watson's bread and butter.
05:08He loves the shotgun, but I don't think this team runs well in the shotgun.
05:12I just – it hasn't hit for four weeks – well, week, five weeks.
05:17The run game has been nonexistent.
05:19But what it does do is allow him to be able to run, and I think that's making up for
05:24it.
05:24The fact that the run game hasn't been good as Deshaun is using his legs.
05:27But we've got to get back to under center running the ball in zone that way
05:32because I just don't think the shotgun run is for the Browns this year.
05:36And Tyvus, teams that run the ball well usually love to run it from a quarterback being under center.
05:41Those are your running game powers, correct?
05:44Yeah, I think that if you look it up, I want to say we are in shotgun more than any
05:49other team in the NFL,
05:50which is – that's when you cater to Deshaun.
05:53That's kind of what you do.
05:55All right, how do you wipe the stench off of this one to get to Baltimore?
06:00You go back and you watch it and you flush it.
06:03I mean, ultimately it comes down to, you know, Isaiah Bond catching a couple of balls.
06:09That happens.
06:10It's a different scenario.
06:11You know, Corey Borges hit the catches and punched the ball.
06:14You're looking at a different scenario.
06:16The funny thing to me is even though they love, it still shows up.
06:21There is something about the fourth quarter with this team to where you needed a touchdown, Deshaun delivered.
06:27You needed a stop on defense, Carson Swessinger delivered.
06:30So, like, it's there.
06:32They have the characteristics to be a really good team, especially in crunch times.
06:36It's just a touchdown.
06:37So, like, the whole thing looks bad, but, like, if you just take that scenario out, which you can't, obviously,
06:43in the fourth quarter, this team responds.
06:47And that's something we haven't seen.
06:49So, like, to me, I take that.
06:51If you're going to be your best in the fourth quarter, I take that.
06:56There are now five players starting on the offensive line, have been, that didn't play on this team last year.
07:04Is it that this offensive line hasn't meshed yet, or is it that this offensive line isn't going to be
07:10good enough to get it done?
07:11What do you think?
07:14That's the thing.
07:15When you're talking about offensive lines, it's – there is no set number of starts and things like that.
07:22It just happens when it happens.
07:24You know, different players are different.
07:25You know, you're trying to get the chemistry down and you're trying to figure it out.
07:29And the more that you give them, as many runs as possible, I hope that it clicks.
07:33But, you know, you can't deny the fact that is we getting pushed on the runs?
07:38Not necessarily.
07:39So, that's an issue right there.
07:41Are we creating scheme gaps for these running backs to get through?
07:46Something.
07:47Not all the time.
07:49You know, so it goes hand-to-hand to where it makes me wonder, is even the run scheme that
07:54we're running
07:56aligned with the offensive line that we have?
07:59You know, and the answer to five weeks is no.
08:06As a guy that's played the position, I'm just kind of curious, as a defensive back,
08:09that's got to hit a receiver that's about to get the ball.
08:12Minka Fitzpatrick, dirty hit, dirty player.
08:15Should he have been suspended – or should he have been ejected?
08:19Or, I mean, I wonder how much that fine's going to be when it's all said and done.
08:23Your thoughts on it?
08:25Did he – wasn't that his second personal foul?
08:28Because he had to pull in the helmet off, too, right?
08:31He had another penalty on the drop.
08:33Was it a –
08:34I think that was him on KC.
08:36On KC.
08:36On KC when he pulled the helmet off?
08:38Yeah.
08:38Yeah.
08:38So, if that's two, I thought he'd get ejected after two.
08:41So, I figured that would be the case.
08:44The hit – I still got to – I got to look at it again.
08:47I can't tell if he went shoulder-to-shoulder or head-to-head.
08:50I just – I can't tell.
08:52It was really close, wasn't it?
08:54Yeah.
08:55I can't tell if his helmet actually went helmet-to-helmet
08:58or if he went shoulder-pad-to-shoulder-pad.
09:00It looks helmet-to-helmet on when you just watch it fast.
09:03But if you slow it down, there is a case to be made that he turned his shoulder
09:07and the shoulder could have hit first.
09:09I got to find a better angle of it.
09:12I got to wait for the All-22 to come out to get a better angle.
09:14But if he went helmet-to-helmet, dirty player.
09:18I mean, obviously, you can't do that.
09:19If he went shoulder-to-shoulder, it's just an unfortunate situation.
09:25Tyvus Powell joining us from the Browns Radio Network.
09:27Big Ten tailgate as well as Tyvus travels the Big Ten,
09:32which now, of course, means you're traveling all around the country.
09:34With that thought in mind, would you give Rocket Sanders more carries?
09:43I just wonder, okay, Quinshaw's back, but is he back?
09:48You know, is he back to where he was before the injury?
09:51And would it behoove him?
09:53Would it behoove the team maybe to lighten his load a little bit
09:56and give it to a guy who looks pretty explosive?
10:00Yeah, I think so.
10:01I think that you're missing that explosiveness.
10:03You know, the thing with Quinshaw, even last year,
10:06is that the offensive line wasn't great,
10:08but he still found ways to make things happen.
10:11And I just feel like that explosiveness ain't there.
10:13Even when he does get a nice little scene,
10:17it just doesn't look as fast as it did last year.
10:20So, obviously, he was seen in a walking boot after the game,
10:23so I know that's going to play a factor into it.
10:26This team is missing a Dylan Sampson-like.
10:29You know, Rocket Sanders does give you that,
10:31and he probably will have to take the majority of the carries
10:34if Quinshaw's foot is indeed messed up that bad.
10:37So, we probably will see more Rocket Sanders.
10:39And I just feel like Rocket Sanders and Dylan Sampson
10:44fit more of what Deshaun does,
10:48meaning, like, Deshaun Watson thrives in that scramble around,
10:52dump it off to the running back, and let him do something.
10:54You know, that's how Rocket Sanders got a lot of his money off.
10:57And it might have been the Thursday night game.
10:59It might have been the Carolina game.
11:01I think it's the Carolina game, right?
11:03So, if that's what Deshaun wants,
11:05you need more of a receiving back back there to be able to do those things.
11:09And Dylan Sampson and Rocket Sanders is more so the case for that,
11:14especially if Quinshaw is going to miss some time,
11:17which I don't know if he is.
11:19He probably won't.
11:20But if he does, then it's definitely Rocket Sanders time.
