00:00red wings taking on seattle tonight at lca seattle another team without high expectations
00:07more reporting about the possibility of trading simon edvinson any anything move the needle there
00:13with that the latest for you well there's all these rumors now that teams are contacting the
00:20red wings about a trade and we get back to one of our favorite things to do is to quote
00:27family guy
00:28and you know he's already won the boat but wait do you want the boat or you want what's in
00:31the box
00:32and peter says it could be anything lois we got to take what's in the box lois says don't be
00:38stupid
00:38he goes lois it could be a boat right even though you've already got the boat yeah that's how i
00:42feel
00:43about this situation right now peter's delivery was significantly better than fair enough but if
00:48teams are calling the red wings about trading for simon edvinson what would the red wings want in
00:55in return oh i want a young defenseman you have one sign them what are we doing it's that simple
01:04so i obviously get very frustrated with this whole situation but i'm starting to think are they really
01:09taking calls on trades yes they can get a lot in trade for edvinson but what's the point it's setting
01:15you back sign the guy move forward or are they are they trying to showcase players now because they do
01:23have young defensemen are playing and wallander made his debut the other day had an assist in the
01:27game you've got you know anton johansson as opposed to the uh albert johansson they're two different
01:34players with the same last name both from different pronunciations no i'm not um but they're starting
01:42to play all these younger defensemen are they showcasing one of these guys to trade i i don't
01:47understand what they're doing just sign simon edvinson get it done and i don't know why it's
01:53taking so long and i don't know why another team hasn't signed him to an offer sheet
01:59yeah um i'm gonna guess because the red wings kind of rudderless right now that's what i'm gonna
02:07guess it hasn't happened yeah it's i mean you're not wrong yeah but gator what if the player they
02:12trade for is like simon edvinson that's what i'm saying it's what i feel like it's a family guy
02:18episode what they're doing here looks like it just doesn't make any sense and then the larkin stuff
02:24now there's reporting that reports out there hey he's expanded the the list to 10 teams i don't know
02:29i'll believe that when when i see it when they trade yeah when he's actually traded i i've maintained
02:34all along but i thought that there was there's there was an avenue for florida to get something done
02:39if they were willing to depart with one of the younger players and i don't know why they wouldn't
02:43but whatever here's one thing that they've done right okay they haven't sold larkin cheap and by
02:50all accounts right they're asking prices are astronomical as they should be they're not in
02:55the business of appeasing dylan and granting his his wish they're in the business of winning hockey
03:02games and doing what's in the best interest of the organization they don't want to trade him
03:06so they are asking for blow our doors off kind of offers and that all along has been correct
03:15i'll give them that even though i'd prefer they not be in this situation and they're in this situation
03:20for a variety of missteps but at least they aren't selling him cheap no they're not doing that okay um
03:30here we go this is uh jameson williams yesterday asked about the start of his season there's been
03:36ups and downs here's what he had to say
03:40so
04:19he did say he's at one point in this meeting with the media he's got to do a better job
04:23of just
04:24catching the football um well that's the number one criticism people have is that he's he's dropped
04:29some big plays and he he talked a little bit about the other things he does uh which includes
04:34blocking and does a great job of that and and he his presence on the field changes the way teams
04:40defend detroit i think there's probably an element of him running some empty routes where he knows
04:45he's not the first second or third probably his priority is to clear out the safeties um
04:52but you know i mean i don't when i hear what he said i don't want people to take it
04:56the wrong way
04:56i think he when he said you know i'm not focused on myself it's a team games team sport it's
05:02not the
05:02objective i don't look at my stats i think he was trying to make it clear it's about winning and
05:07losing
05:07and but he's also he didn't give himself a great grade for the start of this no because he knows
05:12he
05:13he knows he's he's dropped some passes and and the team's two and two and they want to be better
05:17it was very interesting because yesterday if you didn't hear yesterday's show we had a lot of talk
05:21about sam laporta because his contract is become a storyline based upon the fact that the you know
05:30the reports came out last weekend that they were at a stalemate and he did not deny it laporta didn't
05:35deny it and it's quite possible that what laporta is asking for would make him the highest paid
05:40tight end in the nfl and given that he's the next guy and he's right there near the top his
05:46stats
05:46compared to guys who make more money than him um they compare favorably for for laporta
05:53it wouldn't be a surprise if he's asking to be the highest paid tight end in the league and people
05:57say well he's not the best tight end in the league no but that's not how this works it's the
06:01next guy
06:02he'll be the highest paid tight end until another one of the like top 10 tight ends all right available
06:06it's like edvinson isn't better than most cider but he'll get paid better than most cider in a minute
06:12whenever he signs his contract whether it's with the red wings or somebody else he'll get paid more
06:17because it's just how things are now things it's a different world than what it was six months ago
06:24or a year ago yeah well anyway when that topic came up
06:30it spawned a referendum discussion on jameson williams like detroit fans
06:36basically were mad that jamo got his contract and don't want to lose laporta and you know that i
06:45don't i don't think you need to lose laporta and i don't think they will lose laporta
06:51i think all of their behavior leading up to this point they better not lose laporta
06:58because they've they've not made all-in moves
07:03because they're war chesting to keep their own guys on the surface is what it appears
07:08and so you you then better keep your own guys
07:13and and this is a quality player but people
07:17you know jamo's contract was up first they took care of it first
07:21so he he takes to a degree of priority on the timeline but at the end of the day i
07:26did not
07:26expect it to turn into a referendum on jamison williams uh no i didn't expect that either and
07:32you know you start thinking about you know the receivers and what they're getting paid now
07:36i mean it's it's a bit of a bargain looking at what jamo's getting
07:42and because that's just where things are and they've got them at this bargain price for the next few years
07:46and then they'll have to make a decision at that point but for right now when you think of jackson
07:51smith and jibba getting 42 million dollars a year or jamar chase is getting 40 and then you look at
07:57that and compare that to you know what what we see with with our receivers it's a it's a variable
08:04bargain
08:06but you kind of have to compare them to like number two receivers right now not well but i mean
08:09yeah i just threw these out there and it's because that's what i can see right now and i'm going
08:14to
08:14google search here and um i mean i'm i'm not saying brown isn't even popping into the top 10
08:21and he is a number one yeah but they've got both of those guys locked up for effectively
08:27you know jamar chase money so i think doug it's easier for fans to want to trade jamo because it's
08:33what recency bias what they've seen last and they've seen him drop some you know very catchable
08:37big plays and passes right and where's the strength of this team the offense so if you're going to try
08:43to
08:43you know trade you're looking for a trade piece you're gonna have to draft something from the
08:47offense and they look at jameson williams because i don't know i'll ask you guys what do you think
08:52it's harder to replace a big deep threat play receiver like jameson williams or an all-around
08:58tight end that can block and catch well i think it's easier to replace the deep threat receiver
09:03however i don't think that's easy no i don't think it's easy either but i think that then they can
09:09always lean on well we got asb uh tesla is supposed to be you know an up-and-comer they
09:14trade it up for and then you have gibbs after laporta you know there's a big gap between him
09:19and brock wright or tyler conklin or meeks right so and for what laporta does for this team i mean
09:26he
09:26really does block well if they can become if this really does become an issue they'll just i think
09:30they would just franchise them and have two years to draft johnny next tight end all right another
09:36edition of are you going to eat that coming up today at 12 35 it's karshen anderson 97 1
