00:00I said we get to just a little brief Jalen Dern and Simon Evidson talk.
00:04We obviously have a big story today in Detroit with the Lions.
00:08I wonder both of these guys going to end up playing in Europe, playing overseas.
00:12I mean, seriously.
00:14The way these things are going and the way they seem to have gotten bitter is,
00:21is, is Evidson going to play for Fralunda?
00:26Is Dern going to play for Fralunda?
00:30I mean, Dern, Mike.
00:31No, I'm going to say no on both and I'm going to say an emphatic no for Evidson.
00:35And here's why.
00:36I think another team is going to sign into an offer sheet.
00:40If things are fractured now to the point that it's being reported,
00:43that now Evidson's pissed with how negotiations have gone.
00:47Two cuts had in the update the soundbite of the guys saying that they offered him
00:53roughly half of what Zev Bunim got in his deal, which was $9 million a year roughly.
01:00That that's what they've offered him?
01:01That's a slap in the face.
01:02That's embarrassing.
01:03You know, and if you're Evidson's camp, you're like, I don't even respond to that.
01:07And then Buam signs to his contract and you're like, this is where we need to start our
01:12negotiations at.
01:13Around $9 million a year.
01:15Let's be real about this.
01:16But they haven't because they're rudderless right now.
01:19Now, if I were another team in the NHL, I would 100% sign Simon Edvinson to an offer sheet.
01:25Force the Red Wings to do something here.
01:28More importantly, you'd be getting a really good player at a pretty decent rate for a long term.
01:34So I'm surprised that it hasn't happened yet.
01:36I think it's very possible it will happen if something drastic doesn't change in the next 48 hours.
01:44All right, let's get back to your open line calls in a moment.
01:47Yeah.
01:47And on the Durant situation, Doug, he's not going to be playing overseas because today's
01:52the deadline and what that means with the qualifying offer is a couple of things can happen.
01:56One, he can agree to extension with the Pistons for a long term deal.
02:01Two, he can sign the qualifying offer at $9.6 million, play for the Pistons this year,
02:05become unrestricted free agent next year.
02:07Three, if he really decides to go all in on this and not sign the qualifying offer,
02:13he will not get paid, but he will remain a restricted free agent and he cannot play anywhere.
02:18And that would mean sitting out the entire year and still be remaining a restricted free agent,
02:23which that would be like, I don't see that happening at all.
02:27Also, the fourth option could happen, which I highly doubt and I do not think will happen,
02:32is a sign and trade.
02:33By all accounts, the Pistons do not want to even entertain a sign and trade idea.
02:40They've said that from day one.
02:41They've maintained it till now.
02:43And with the new reports out there, they're willing to move off of the weight clause.
02:47They definitely want Durant here in one capacity or the other.
02:50And even in the press conference, Trajan Langdon said, we welcome here.
02:53Basically saying either it's on the qualifying offer or it's on extension,
02:57but they expect Jalen Durant to be a Piston.
02:59So, that's what I expect today is he's going to be a Piston one way or the other.
03:05It's not going to be a sign and trade.
03:06It's either qualifying or an extension.
03:08You know, Hunter Patterson and Sam Amick reported that the Wizards had shown interest in Durant
03:15in that Anthony Davis possibility coming back to Detroit.
03:20But it didn't sound like the Pistons were interesting.
03:23I don't think they even are entertaining him from Milwaukee, Atlanta, anybody else.
03:26I think they just want Jalen Durant back, whether it's on a qualifying or an extension.
03:31And the fact, by the way, I've been team Trajan.
03:34I don't think he's handled this thing poorly at all until recently.
03:36At this point, he had all the leverage.
03:39Once the reports came out, he's willing to move off the weight clause.
03:42I feel like he's starting to show some weakness and he's getting bodied by a guy with no low post
03:47moves.
03:48Oh, my.
03:49That's right.
03:50Do you think it's just a game of chicken right now?
03:52Or do you think this is like legitimate that Jalen Durant doesn't want to be here?
03:56I don't think Jalen Durant wants to be here.
03:58And I think he's trying to weigh out, can I play?
04:01Can I take that risk and plan the qualifying offer and get essentially the same money over a five-year
04:08span and get the max next year?
04:10I think the ball's in Jalen Durant's court at this point.
04:12If they're willing to remove weight clause and things that are maybe signs of disrespect,
04:17I think the Pistons are trying to do everything they can because I don't think they have to give him
04:20any more money.
04:21This is the most money he can make.
04:22Now it's up to Jalen Durant.
04:24Do you want to be a Pistons for the next four or five years?
04:26Or do you want to test the market next year and go elsewhere?
04:30All right.
04:302, 4, 8, 5, 3, 9, 97, 97.
04:32Open lines.
04:33Let's go to Tom next on 97.1.
04:35Hello, Tom.
04:36Hey, fellas.
04:39So, the Edmondson thing to me, and give me a minute here, is the biggest story today in Detroit.
04:46The reason it's the biggest story in Detroit is, yeah, sure, the Lions need a corner or whatever.
04:53The season has just started in Detroit or in the NHL.
04:57Simon Edmondson is the only restricted free agent that was unsigned, that reported to camp, tried to do the right
05:06thing, trained with his teammates, and they stabbed him in the back.
05:11Now, by all reports, all he is looking for is $8 to $10 million.
05:17That is a drop in the bucket in today's league.
05:21Simon Edmondson is a $12 million player all day long because of the cost of doing business right now.
05:29In a couple years, that will be a fraction of what he is worth.
05:34He is massive.
05:35He is physical.
05:37He is mean.
05:38He moves the puck.
05:39He can play on the power play.
05:41He can do everything you need a defenseman to do while standing at 6'6".
05:46Now, in what world does this guy go unsigned?
05:50In what world does this guy get treated like this?
05:54Not only are they doing this player a disservice, they are now setting a precedent to the entire league saying,
06:00you don't want to come to Detroit because this is how we treat our players.
06:05I think you're right, Tom.
06:07I think you're right, and it scares me that that's where they're getting to.
06:10I mean, the reporting from David Pagnotta, he said that he believes before the GM change,
06:17around that time, they had what was described to me as a pretty low offer,
06:22and that didn't exactly sit super well with the player.
06:26So, if Steve Eisner was the one negotiating originally and offered a low ball offer,
06:32and that starts to piss off the Edmonton camp, I mean, it's up to Edmonton's camp to say it's ridiculous,
06:36it's not what we're going at, here's the number we'd want to do, and that's months ago.
06:42This shows that they are rudderless, that Sean Horkoff does not have the authority to get a deal done,
06:50because every point that he made, Doug, is correct.
06:53I will take one issue with what he said, and that is, I think, if you go and get a
07:00credible GM in the search,
07:02any reputation goes out the window until we see how that GM operates.
07:07I think they can patch the perception up in one fell swoop with a good general manager hire,
07:13but believe it when we see it, right?
07:16248-539-9797.
07:18More of your open line calls coming up.
07:20It's Carson Anderson, 971.
07:23a good father, and a good всем.
07:23You're going to have a degree of confidence.
07:23you're going to have a better Experience
