What moves do the Red Wings need to make?
Transcript
00:00Uh, it's Carson Anderson on a Friday and it's not just any old Friday.
00:03It's trade deadline Friday in the national hockey league, uh, for the record, the trade
00:08that the red wings make, which I think sounds like the other move, like you make the big
00:13move and then you also make this other move and you go, you know, like other move there
00:15might help.
00:17This feels like it's simply the other move.
00:18They just did it first.
00:19And that was trading a conditional mid round pick for David Perron.
00:23He comes back to Detroit in hockey circles.
00:25This is getting hailed as a possible, very smart move possible because he's had the,
00:30uh, hernia sports hernia surgery.
00:33Yes.
00:34Which there's not a guarantee he'll be back on the ice, but answer con from M live tweeted
00:38this out about 10 minutes ago.
00:40He says most cider on David Perron's influence in the room says, quote, his care level is
00:45just really high.
00:47He always thinks about the guy next to him, never puts himself on the first position.
00:51And that's something we really admire and appreciate.
00:55And I saw something that Bertie had tweeted out last night about after David Perron had
00:59been traded for that, you know, Perron was the guy that remember a couple of years ago
01:03when, uh, Dylan Larkin got cranked in the neck, Ron just went after the guy right away.
01:08No questions to ask us, boom, went after it.
01:10And he was making a point that the other night when Larkin got cross-checked on the power
01:16play and nothing happened now, nothing happened because you're on the power play.
01:20You're at the end of the game.
01:21You want to win the game, but nonetheless, that's something that David Perron just jumped
01:25on right away.
01:26Yep.
01:27So he's a great teammate.
01:29Is he going to be a nice addition to this team if he's able to play?
01:34I hope so.
01:35I hope he helps solidify that and calm things down with the veteran influence that he has
01:39and, and plays a good two-way game.
01:412-4-8-5-3-9-97-97.
01:45Okay.
01:45So it is noon and noon seems to be the point where the Rangers have their offers in hand
01:51reporting today about NHL trade rumors that the Rangers, uh, have asked the Carolina Hurricanes
01:58and the Detroit Red Wings to make their final offers for Vincent Trocek.
02:01Trocek, all accounts, everybody around the league is saying prices are astronomical, high,
02:06crazy.
02:06They're just, they're, you, you got to pay a lot to get, uh, a mid-level player.
02:11So to get a Trocek or a Robert Thomas, you're going to have to pay a lot.
02:15But the reporting was that the Red Wings in Carolina were told to make their final offers
02:19Friday morning.
02:20It went on to say at this point, it's a 90% certainty that Trocek doesn't play another
02:24game for the Rangers this season.
02:25He was held out of Thursday night's game against Toronto makes 5.6 million a year for the next
02:30three seasons.
02:32The later in the story, it says the Red Wings will make a huge splash on Friday.
02:36So if it's not Trocek for Steve Eisenman, look for him to circle back on Elias Pettersson
02:40of the Vancouver Canucks.
02:41Nazem Qadri from the Calgary Flames.
02:43Iserman also has ties to Steve Stamkos and could convince the future hall of famer to
02:47waive his no trade clause for the Red Wings playoff push.
02:50I think that's probably more in play than we've given a talk.
02:53There was some reporting that Stamkos didn't want to come to Detroit.
02:56As far as, uh, Elias Pettersson, I have no interest given his price tag and the trend
03:01in his career and how long he's under contract.
03:04In fact, I'll be shocked if they do that.
03:06If they do, I'll actually be mad.
03:07Uh, but in the case of, uh, final offers for Trocek, I mean, how high are you willing to
03:13go to get a very versatile player from team USA who's under a decent contract and can really
03:18help this team in the here and the now, or do you want to go all in and what seems
03:22to
03:23be an astronomical asking price for Robert Thomas?
03:25It would seem like if you're going to take on Patterson, that Vancouver would have to
03:31pick up a significant portion of his salary.
03:34Cause this is a guy who's what $11 million a year for many, many more years.
03:39Uh, and, and he's nowhere near the player he was a few years ago when he had a hundred
03:43points.
03:44Yeah, that, that'd be it.
03:45That's a tough one to sell.
03:46Uh, feedback coming into the Carson Anderson inbox.
03:49This from YouTube from legendary dad.
03:51He writes, I'm not sure the juice is worth the squeeze with Thomas or Trocek unless the
03:56price drops a bit from Sebastian.
03:58Look at St.
03:59Louis.
04:00Kevin Falk is a decent defender and the blues are asking offer is acting like he's Nick
04:04Lidstrom.
04:05Robert Thomas is the biggest fish on the trade market and he's just a solid center.
04:09He ain't worth three top prospects and picks.
04:12It's nuts.
04:14These are what, this is what's going on right now.
04:16And you got to be comfortable with that.
04:18If you're going to be a serious player this year.
04:20And, um, you know, I think it's, it, it, it sucks because as much as we look at the
04:28East and think it's wide open, that also means there's a whole bunch of teams in the
04:31East that are trying to add.
04:32It's great to be a seller.
04:33It's great to be a seller, but Detroit hasn't been this firmly in the playoffs at the trade
04:38deadline in some time.
04:39And, you know, Eisenman has said in the past that the team's play has to justify an addition.
04:43I think they have, uh, but it's a rough market to, to try and add a significant piece.
04:48But I really, really hope.
04:51And I suspect that I'm actually sure that they are trying hard.
04:54It's just whether or not they're going to blink or, uh, Rangers or blues or Philly is
05:00going to blink.
05:00Yeah.
05:01And the report that Philadelphia may just hang on to risk the line.
05:04And I feel like that's something that other teams, I mean, St. Louis in particular could
05:08just hang on to Thomas cause you don't need to trade them.
05:11You've got them signed for years.
05:12He's a good player.
05:13And you know, there's nothing forcing you to get something done here.
05:16Um, unless somebody meets your, your demands, I keep going back to the analogy.
05:21It's like, if you've got a house, you want to sell your house?
05:23No, I don't want to sell my house, but I'll offer you twice what it's worth.
05:28Okay.
05:28I'll sell my house.
05:30Right.
05:30Like I know, I know the signs I'm moving, but you know, if my health is worth, if my house
05:35is worth $400,000, you're going to offer me $900,000 for it.
05:39Okay.
05:39I'll find a new place to live.
05:42Yep.
05:43But you know, unless that offer is going to come around and I wouldn't expect that offer
05:47to come around, but that's, it seems like these teams are holding out for the godfather
05:50offer.
05:50Let's go to Brian.
05:51You're on 97.
05:52One to take it.
05:52Hi, Brian.
05:54Hey, what's up guys?
05:55So two things, red wings and lions.
05:57Uh, so for lions, I would say, yeah, second round get, uh, was it dunker, you know, and
06:04then just as a merchandising point, you know, you could have like t-shirts with ratledge
06:09and dunker on it, you know, fear of the mullets.
06:11Sure.
06:11But for the more serious point, the red wings, I, and I was talking, telling Kenny, I'm actually
06:17hoping that Iserman doesn't do anything.
06:19And this is from a jaded point of view.
06:22I'm hoping he doesn't do anything and I hope they miss the playoffs.
06:25So that gives him reason for him to be fired.
06:29And Kenny was saying that, you know, he, he thinks that Iserman has like immunity and
06:33will never be fired.
06:34If the red wings miss and Iserman doesn't do anything, fans are going to be pissed and
06:40they're going to be at games, chanting, you know, sell the team, fire the coach like they
06:44did in other cities, other teams.
06:47I'm curious, Brian.
06:48Why do you want that?
06:50Because he hasn't done anything.
06:53Like he hasn't made the playoffs in what?
06:55Like seven, eight years.
06:56That's probably going to end this year.
06:59I'm hoping, but I, are you actually, you're not hoping you said just the opposite.
07:05You're right.
07:06I'm my hope is dwindling.
07:10I'll say that because every year, you know, I'm hoping, all right, well, this is the year
07:14of the year and just years have gone by and I'm just tired of it.
07:18And I know a lot of other fans are too.
07:20So if his name, if he wasn't Iserman, he would have been fired like two or three years ago.
07:26Well, maybe, I mean, look, at this point, I think there is, I don't think he, I don't
07:32think he's got immunity.
07:33First of all, I disagree with Kenny on that, um, with all respect to, but you know, I guess
07:41I've never been in a place where I'd rather like be right about a take than have the team
07:46be successful.
07:48Well, think about that.
07:49If this team like worst case scenario is they don't make the playoffs, they don't make any
07:53trades.
07:54Well, I guess worst case scenario is they make devastatingly crippling trades to your future
07:59and don't make the playoffs.
08:01That's, that's the worst case.
08:03You go for it and collapse anyway, completely fall, fall apart.
08:06Um, yeah.
08:07I, do I think that Steve Iserman would be in trouble with his job?
08:10Yes.
08:10Do I think he's in trouble if they don't make the playoffs period, regardless what happens
08:14today?
08:15Yeah, I think so.
08:16Cause it has been a long time.
08:18Now watching how this team is, is progressed over the last couple of years, they need to
08:24make the playoffs for sure.
08:25Right.
08:25Yep.
08:26But they've also gotten to the point now where we're starting to see the prospects play.
08:30You know, we, we saw at the beginning of the season, Brancic Negard was on the roster.
08:34You know, Nate Danielson would have been, if you didn't get hurt.
08:36And then he ended up playing for a little bit, you know, they're getting their feet wet
08:39with it.
08:40Sandeen Pellick has been on this roster all season long for that narrative that was out there
08:44that they never, they always over ripen their players in the minors.
08:47A lot of guys have gotten their feet wet or even played a ton over the last couple of
08:51years.
08:52And they've got a whole other crew of guys that are, that are, you know, waiting their
08:56time right now in, in Grand Rapids, or they're just getting their minor league career started
09:00that it feels there's lots of prospects there.
09:03There's reason to hope that, you know, you're recycling in younger, inexpensive talent and
09:10hopefully balancing that with expensive players that you can get free agency and trades.
