00:00Hello and welcome back to another video today, another 4 video, probably one of the biggest
00:05things I've unboxed on this channel. This is the Toshiba Visicom, COM100 is the model number,
00:11and this is a old Japanese exclusive home video game console, one of the earliest ones to actually
00:17release in Japan. It's a bit unique. Now this model, just a bit of a history, is actually based
00:24on the PC50X, the Gemini General Instruments system. Now this is unique for a few reasons,
00:32one of the I'll mention is, unlike a lot of the systems, it only ever released a couple of the
00:35games, or some of the systems which actually only had a single game and that was actually built in.
00:39This, at least for the Japanese market ones, seems to be the largest system in terms of the console
00:45library that they actually made cartridges for. This one only has a couple in it, and actually
00:49came, I believe, with either three or four cartridges you could get with the console.
00:55Now there are some European consoles that have a lot more of the actual library available,
00:59but this one is pretty unique. It also looks pretty decent, so we'll open this one up and we'll have
01:04a look at the system. This one is boxed, the box is starting to fall apart at the bottom.
01:12I'll flip this over, take a look at the console there. Also some unique controls as well, that will
01:20open it up first. I'll be taped up in this bag.
01:54Now let's take this out. A bit of a squashing the sides and the bottom of the box is falling
02:01apart a bit, so be a bit careful with that.
02:04You can see this is, better look at that side, just text on here, you can see the damage that's
02:11been squashed.
02:12Then this is what some of the games look like, pretty primitive and basic.
02:16Obviously it was an early system, it's basically mass market, basically process I believe.
02:22Mass market system, so it isn't going to be the most complicated.
02:27But it does have at least, it isn't a variety at least.
02:32Let's see if I can open this up.
02:38Be careful, this is what's included.
02:42But anyway, it's well packed at least, a little bit loose in here.
02:46Maybe it being a little bit loose is not allowed to get crushed.
02:50It might have gone a bit more crushed in transit.
02:52So these are our game cartridges.
02:56It has some nice packaging compared to some of the other systems.
03:00This is our controller, we'll say a controller adapter for our joystick,
03:07which I'll explain a bit more later on.
03:14Trying to get everything out, come it close up together.
03:19Our manuals, which looks like one of it's in a clear file.
03:23Which I'll be having a look at everything.
03:25System is pretty big compared to a lot of these early systems.
03:27I tend to like the smaller systems for these early systems.
03:30It's a bit more convenient.
03:32There's things like this to have, especially for a few systems.
03:35is a bit unwieldy.
03:39So compared, for example, with the Intellivision,
03:41similar sort of size to that.
03:43I prefer things like the Arcadia, because it's nice and small.
03:47They look pretty similar, the Arcadia and the Intellivision,
03:50but that's not really the topic of this video.
03:53I'll move this to the side.
03:57And our custom there, got our power adapter.
04:02I'm just going to quickly check to see what the power adapter looks like.
04:06I know some of these old systems do actually have some complex multi-pin power adapters.
04:19I think this one might just be a regular barrel jack.
04:25Yep, it is.
04:26And what voltage it is?
04:28Center positive DC 9 volts.
04:30So almost the Famicom, just opposite polarity.
04:36Probably end up using my own adapter for that,
04:37because I don't really trust these,
04:40because it includes a lot with these older adapters.
04:43Make sure you are careful.
04:44Probably use an aftermarket one,
04:46because a lot of these older systems do have the power adapters fail,
04:51which is, for example, you get 100 volts get passed straight out,
04:53because the Transformer circuit units actually failed.
04:58Well then, it's ruined the system,
04:59which this is quite rare,
05:00so you don't want to ruin a rare system.
05:03So I will actually show one of the controller adapters now.
05:08You can probably see on this, in the front of the box,
05:10it did actually show the controllers, and it was numpads.
05:15So what this system actually did,
05:17so you could either use a numpad or controller,
05:18depending on the game,
05:20instead of some systems would have multiple different things,
05:22or just stick with one or the other.
05:26It actually has these joysticks, pretty stylish joysticks,
05:29metal on the top,
05:31which actually fit on top of the numpad,
05:34and then they are programmed to use the numpad,
05:38a bit of wear there,
05:39and as you actually use the joystick,
05:41it pushes down on specific keys to actually control it,
05:45and they run there,
05:47presses a different key,
05:48and on top, different key.
05:50So instead of actually having a specific controller,
05:53maybe you have to unplug that controller,
05:55unplug this in,
05:56it's actually a pretty decent adapter,
05:58that just fits on top of the numpad.
06:03And of course this other one,
06:04I'm not going to show you that,
06:05the number one, because it is, well, the same thing.
06:08I'll just put that one back,
06:12in there for now.
06:14This will do damage,
06:15and I don't think that's likely.
06:17Our cartridges are in here.
06:21Now, I believe there were different versions,
06:24this had different combinations of cartridges,
06:26I believe there was one that had four,
06:28and one that had three or something similar to that.
06:31So it's got this box here,
06:35and it is quite nice looking.
06:39They definitely get points for presentation,
06:41with all of these systems,
06:42either just had the cartridges thrown in the box,
06:45if that's how it was when the system came with it,
06:47or they had this one just in a box,
06:49specifically for that specific cartridge.
06:51This is how it came with multiple.
06:53So you can see, here are the cartridges,
06:55this one still originally sealed, it looks like.
07:00Plastic is missing,
07:01but it's still got the entire bottom part on,
07:04so I think that one is a brand new.
07:05I don't know what this one is,
07:07it's Cas 160.
07:11This one is also sealed,
07:12although this one is open at the top,
07:14so I'm assuming they just ripped it off,
07:16took the cartridge out,
07:17we'll have a look at this.
07:19The cartridges on this system are very expensive,
07:22but you can buy a decent amount of them
07:24for sale online, at least.
07:27Yeah, that doesn't really want to come out.
07:31A bit of a...
07:32Civil force to Shiba,
07:33so this is some maths game,
07:35and here is the cartridge,
07:37got the pins,
07:37only on one side,
07:39so most systems do that on both sides,
07:41just on one side,
07:41and the pins are exposed,
07:42so no dust flap or inside the cartridge.
07:46And it's a video computer cassette,
07:49so it's at the Cassette Vision,
07:51I guess it's Cassette Vision,
07:52Super Cassette Vision,
07:52and also the...
07:54whatever the...
07:55version of the Atari Princess,
07:56I know that was used in Japan,
07:57also Cassette something,
07:59of course it's Cassette,
07:59and a lot of the Nintendo systems
08:00also use the term Cassette,
08:02but this is another very early example of that.
08:06So here is, look at this,
08:08the manual for this,
08:10put the cartridge in,
08:11and it's, you put maths stuff in there.
08:16There is an additional space,
08:18looks like for one more cartridge,
08:20in this,
08:22so actually maybe,
08:24maybe or maybe not,
08:26very close,
08:27so maybe this box is also available for five cartridges,
08:29or maybe there's a cartridge supposed to be here that's missing,
08:32I'm not 100% sure,
08:33but it's 30,
08:3440,
08:35this is 10,
08:36and 60,
08:38and we'll show how their naming conventions work,
08:40other than being multiples of 10.
08:45It has come to the four cartridge,
08:47it looks like,
08:50everything is in here,
08:54but a pretty nice,
08:55it's actually the cartridge out,
08:56because I'll put it in the system,
09:00open that up,
09:02close that,
09:03it's a decent presentation,
09:22let's get this one out,
09:26so here,
09:27it looks like a bowling game,
09:28for example,
09:30some,
09:31tree game,
09:32I don't know if I'm supposed to say,
09:33Yasaku type game,
09:35the car driving game,
09:37which I think is very similar to the one I've got,
09:40on the Bandai TV Jack 5000,
09:42maybe it's even the same,
09:44that one might also be based on the same system,
09:47what is this little thing,
09:49is that a foot from something,
09:50I'm not sure,
09:51but it's got a 54,800 yen,
09:53which is because that was the original price tag,
09:55so it definitely wasn't very affordable,
09:57for the average consumer,
09:58especially with all the deflation they've had,
10:01so that was probably,
10:02I think,
10:03actually I think with all the deflation that they had,
10:05was used to be about in the 70s and 80s,
10:08and this came out in the 80s,
10:10at 200 yen for one US dollar,
10:12so this is probably about 270 US dollars at the time,
10:16which,
10:16I guess for inflation,
10:19is still very expensive,
10:22which would be a couple of times that after inflation,
10:25probably like a close to a thousand US dollars equivalents,
10:31some more specifications,
10:33got a switch for a hotel one too,
10:36I'm not sure whether I should open this up,
10:37or just leave it like this for now,
10:39it's in pretty good condition,
10:41I believe this is aftermarket things,
10:43not like it's factory sealed,
10:45like the other things weren't,
10:47but I don't want to damage this,
10:49I'm not sure if there's anything being particularly in this,
10:50but if there is,
10:51I might add that in,
10:53for now,
10:53we'll just look at the main attraction,
10:55which is the console,
11:01which I guess I am glad,
11:03that this has external power supply,
11:04and not,
11:05it's probably the Intellivision again,
11:07a built-in cable,
11:31and here we are,
11:35this one,
11:37still down here,
11:48and I'm talking about anything,
11:50that shouldn't be built-in,
11:51it looks like the video cable is built-in,
11:54which is the only one,
11:59and this is also RF as well,
12:01so this is,
12:02you know,
12:02I guess I could use this hole,
12:04with the cable coming out,
12:05and mount an AV mod,
12:08and potentially,
12:09I wonder why they left,
12:10uh,
12:10the TV thing,
12:12plugged in,
12:15a bit of a design,
12:17to what I'm used to,
12:18but,
12:18it's got all the,
12:19the normal things,
12:20you have to plug for the,
12:21out of console,
12:22you can wire up your antennas there,
12:23and this,
12:24fork goes back of the TV,
12:27in which between,
12:27whether they want to be getting it or not,
12:30interesting,
12:31door there,
12:33sort of bits of metal there,
12:36okay,
12:36this doesn't completely close,
12:41I have to really push it in a bit,
12:44don't know why I'd want it,
12:45to be designed like that,
12:48those holes,
12:51and that just,
12:52fits in there,
12:55oh,
12:55that's pretty tight,
13:01yeah,
13:02it's very tight,
13:10I'll put that one to the side,
13:11we have,
13:13our logo there,
13:15the sticky tape,
13:15as soon as this at some point,
13:17was taped in the spot,
13:19and also,
13:20let me get the plasticizer melting,
13:22but,
13:22no,
13:24oh,
13:24come to have that,
13:24this one apparently,
13:25doesn't have that as a problem,
13:28so,
13:28the camera's recording,
13:29but,
13:30I'll have to redo that last little bit,
13:32so,
13:32here is the control adapter,
13:35took a while figure,
13:36how to actually put it on,
13:38put it on,
13:39this way,
13:40now,
13:40this one is actually missing,
13:41a little piece there,
13:42a little upper piece,
13:43I think that's where that will fit in the,
13:46thing with the manual is,
13:50so,
13:50it goes this way first,
13:54slide that up,
13:55and then this part,
13:57a bit difficult to get on and off,
13:59but clips,
14:00like that,
14:02and there we are,
14:07not sure how well this would actually work in practice,
14:10then to get it off,
14:12so I have to force it,
14:17a bit scared doing this,
14:18that we're not breaking it,
14:19because it is very old,
14:20and all plastic does have a tendency to like to,
14:23brake,
14:24but,
14:24if you've seen my shorts I've done,
14:27I've had a super cassette vision car,
14:28which is brake,
14:29putting it into the system,
14:30I've had a Famicom box,
14:32cartridge brakes,
14:32putting it into,
14:34this one adapter,
14:35actually not the system,
14:36put it in a adapter,
14:38to use an actual Famicom,
14:44actually,
14:46I might try actually,
14:49using a pry tool,
14:50to see if I can get it off,
14:52no that is not moving,
14:54so that's on there pretty tight,
14:56push the back of it more,
14:58so I guess push that side in,
15:00give it a bit more room,
15:01and then slides off,
15:03actually that,
15:04that one's coming off now as well,
15:09that at some point,
15:10will come off as well,
15:11so be very careful,
15:14with these,
15:16also there's that,
15:17black on there,
15:18from the finish on here,
15:21not sure,
15:22that's one control adapter,
15:26nope,
15:27gonna put the other one on,
15:28and have a look at what's here,
15:31so A and B,
15:32both are exactly the same,
15:33in terms of controller layout,
15:38this large scale integrate,
15:40I'm not sure if there's,
15:41extra letters there missing,
15:43like integrated circuit,
15:44or something similar to that,
15:46like LSI,
15:47and it's LSI,
15:53for like,
15:54this type of circuitry,
15:57but,
15:57don't really see it,
15:58just written as integrate,
16:11I've tried to figure out,
16:12how to wrap this around,
16:13that's an issue,
16:15with one like this,
16:16where they have the controllers,
16:18built in,
16:18and they fit in the thing,
16:19even with headphones,
16:21it's very hard to actually,
16:22get them to,
16:24line up when they're finished,
16:28so here,
16:29it's a power light,
16:30which is always a good feature to have,
16:32another Toshiba logo,
16:34I don't know why they need,
16:35a Toshiba logo up there,
16:36then one down here as well,
16:38very quickly power switch,
16:40and then reset,
16:42and then reset,
16:42I assume,
16:47and we'll put that one,
16:51back in,
16:52there's actually a lot of text up here,
16:54can't read that,
16:55but some diagrams,
16:57that may be troubleshooting,
16:58or something,
16:59I'm not actually sure,
17:02but we'll flip it over,
17:03have a look on the,
17:04the other side,
17:06that means someone's had it apart,
17:07at some point,
17:08there's a screw hole,
17:09looks like in there,
17:11we have a switch for channels,
17:14nothing really much,
17:15on the outside,
17:18video,
17:19see what's inside,
17:20but for now,
17:20that's it for this video,
17:21for that video,
17:22comment down,
17:22all your thoughts,
17:23and ideas,
17:23for future reasons,
17:24subscribe,
17:25so you're going to see videos like this,
17:26in the future.
17:45in the future.
