00:00Hello and welcome back to another video. Today I've got another
00:03larger box to unbox. This is the Postdoctoral F09 game computer. It's a famiclone. I picked
00:11this one up because it seemed quite interesting. It has a few accessories. It's pretty unique for
00:16a reason I'll show after I open it. Yeah it's a bigger package. I've tried to open this one up
00:21on the carpet. I'll start by cutting open the bubble wrap. It seems decently well packed.
00:43I hope I can just tie it out.
01:02So it does still have some cleaning wrap. We can get a better look at it now. That's
01:06definitely some stolen artwork and not the highest res. You can sort of see the pixelation there.
01:11We've got some stuff here. I just realized the tab that I wasn't putting properly.
01:17It didn't quite close it up properly. Anyway it's a game computer. International quality,
01:21super steady. Not sure what that's supposed to mean. I guess maybe that's supposed to be like
01:24reliable or something. F09 Postdoctoral. Don't really know what that's for.
01:30Maybe it's a fancy thing that a student who just graduated could use or something like that.
01:36Latest Windows system. We'll look into it but it is a family clone. It's Famicom. So not Windows.
01:43And super game function. It does have a built-in keyboard. Or more accurately,
01:49this system is a keyboard with a built-in Famicom. It's got a mouse it looks like. Two controllers.
01:54Pretty basic ones. I've seen these with some other Famiclone as well as the DVD player had these in it.
01:59We've got a light gun and our cartridge.
02:03Put a handle at the top. A bit of damage there. Same thing on both sides it looks like.
02:10And also this is a list of our games in the multi-parts. We'll probably have a look at it
02:14once we
02:15actually open it up.
02:27So I think it's finished to open the tabs. Should just pull it straight out like that's really
02:32the damage there.
02:36Yeah definitely seen better days.
02:38Now it's in styrofoam so it actually looks like this is unused. It's all wrapped up in like a plastic
02:46film. Let's put the box to the side. So we have our power adapter. This is the smaller cells in
02:55the
02:55foam than I'm used to. It's like a polystyrene foam. Not sure if the plastic size is going to have
03:00damaged this film but it's got these two controllers. Different color than on the box. It looks like
03:04there are two cartridges instead of just the one. So Education Computer 2000 August. Maybe it's also
03:12sold as Education Computer 2000. That's a different name. And 48 and one and then the other one I assume
03:18is for the actual computer stuff. Of course the mouse is helpfully this labeled mouse. Now
03:25obviously the Famicom did not come with a keyboard built in and you might be thinking how did they
03:31manage to get the keyboard to get stuff like that working. Well what I'm thinking, I'm not
03:35how I'm missing sure, I hope I didn't even open this up because it's still brand new, is that there
03:41was the family basic for Famicom which had a keyboard you could plug in I think through the 15 pin
03:46at the
03:47front. I assume this is basically wired up as the 15 pin connector input for the Famicom. Probably just
03:56the two connectors for these and then this would be wired up where you would have the 15 pin wired
04:02up
04:02and that's how they get the keyboard to work. It's pretty decent quality keyboard and it's probably just
04:07a version of family basic on one of these multi carts, maybe some other stuff. I'm not 100% sure.

04:13if it actually works with this and I can type if the keyboard is actually wired up the same way.
04:22As for the bottom of this, nothing there. So let's open this one up next. So I think probably just
04:30cut the
04:31film on this. Just running that straight through. See that's very thin here, so it's just lucky that it hasn't
04:44been broken.
04:47So if in this box the seller never opened it, why was the top of the box all ripped and
04:54not put in properly?
04:56Maybe they opened it when they took pictures of it or something like that? Or maybe just have a look
05:00at it and they never ended up using it.
05:10It does have quite a chemical spell now having this open.
05:17So let's have a look at our cartridges. So education computer 48 in one, happy birthday,
05:23English edit, so it's typing program. So this one is the main computer, quote unquote cartridge,
05:28and this one is like a multi cart. There's a lot of nines, although I doubt it's anywhere near that.
05:34Also unique sort of Famicom, slightly shorter I think than usual cartridge.
05:43There's a text on the back, avoid exposing cartridge to extreme temperature, be careful not to,
05:48not to, I assume, unless cartridge in water for protection, when cartridge in unused place,
05:52cartridge in a high protective plastic case. Not provides, I'm not sure how I'm supposed to do that.
05:56So that's how I find one specifically for these unique Famiclone cartridges.
06:04Let's have a look at the power adapter. Oh, that's under there. And yeah, it looks like it has
06:09melted some of the plastic with the plasticizer. And this one, yeah, that's melted as well.
06:17Put that there for now. So the power out is sent to negative 9 volts. They're the same as the
06:25original Famicom, so I can just use a different adapter instead of opening that one, especially since
06:29this is, oops, since this one is a Japanese or American style, so I can't plug this one in.
06:38At least I need an adapter for it.
06:42Let's look at the other accessories as well.
06:46We have AV cable, one channel audio, I guess.
06:53We have a gun. It's a H64A, very light. It does have a decent click when you pull the trigger.
07:03The lens looks scratched. It's probably not coming across very well on the screen, but yeah,
07:09for some reason that looks scratched already, even though it's very new. A bit of a plasticizer
07:14melting there. Let's just have a 9-pin. Seem to be a decent controller at least. I'm not sure
07:21whether this light down will work well, given the fact that we'll go over CRT and these don't
07:26really work well on LCDs. Although it might make us do the light bulb trick and get 100% each
07:31time.
07:32The mouse looks like that's a pencil marking on the bottom there.
07:39Same connector. That is a ball mouse. That's very clicky. Smaller ball than I'm used to.
07:46And that's, maybe that's from testing or something. There's some lines on there.
07:51I'm used to the ball of these mouse being a bit bigger. Not sure how a mouse would be set
07:57up to work on
07:59this either. Trades go in.
08:06There we are. And of course, it's a helpful little mouse.
08:10I think the ones I've ever had in the past, I think I do have some with some Famiclones,
08:14but also had one of these that was a USB based for the little DVD player that had a built
08:19-in
08:20Famicom emulation, which I'm not sure how I even figured out that I had that.
08:26It's fine for controller, though that D-pad's not really that good.
08:31Back to the side. I don't need to take this one out, but we'll get rid of that.
08:36It's very much melted there. So we can look at the manual underneath.
08:40Just got our two cartridges. There's a list of games. It's in Japanese.
08:46I thought most of these Famiclones might be Chinese, because maybe this is just Japanese market,
08:51so it's Texas in Japanese. A bit of information there.
08:55Space. Slightly misspelt.
08:57Caps, look back, space, silly, insert. Not sure why delete, it's not capitalized.
09:02Looks most okay, but I guess they've made an update with that line there.
09:12I guess the next thing is to have a look at the actual system itself. I might try this and

09:18in some video of me trying it at the moment. Probably just look at the actual system.
09:23So we have a Famicom cartridge slot just in there. Fits in fine.
09:31A little bit of tension there. The plastic of this. All right, yeah, it's not too bad.
09:41The keyboard. Obviously it's not actually on the panel switches, but on the membrane keyboard.
09:47Decent bit of jiggle, which isn't really something you want.
09:50Obviously the text there. Reset. And very clicky switches.
10:00It's decent enough. LED. Helpfully labeled LED. Doesn't even say power or something like that.
10:05It just says LED, which you can just tell by looking at it. But just knowing that it's an
10:09LED doesn't tell you what it means and it's actually on. There are two joystick ports on the left here.
10:15And if we have a look at this, what I'm going to assume is we've got our RF out on.
10:21Got both RF ends
10:23AV, which is interesting, and power in. I'm going to guess, given the fact this is here,
10:27this is probably a daughter board or maybe even the main board here.
10:31Because that's got the reset, the LED power, everything built in here. This little board here.
10:36This could either be a part of it, could be a long board, or maybe that's a separate daughter board.
10:40It's just looking in here, actually. The board ends there. So it's...
10:46Yeah, so I assume this is the board here. There's a small board there that's connected.
10:49Some ribbon cable under there. So a ribbon cable running from there.
10:53And then this whole thing is just the membrane board that connects somewhere around here.
10:59So most of this is going to be actually fancy if I open this up, which let's do now.
11:05That's a lot of screws, I'm sure. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13,
11:1014 screws.
11:16That's not going to fit there. So we're going to use this one, because it's slightly long,
11:19even though it's probably a bit too small. And see if we can open this up.
11:28Just lucky, that only just fits in there.
11:42That's not a lot.
11:57It's just like the middle of it is.
11:58It's just a little bit more space for me.
12:00So now I'm going to go back and see if I apply this one in the middle.

12:32It just made me cry, it talks a little bit too well, so we're going back to the old-fashioned

13:33One more screw, unless some of these aren't all the way out, actually.

13:38So we'll find out, it's that one.
13:46Right, so then, that all comes out.
13:50So there is the bottom of the keys.
13:53There's a little clip in there.
13:55This little piece in the middle is plastic that pops out.
13:59I'm going to move to the side and then flip this over so I know where all the screws are.
14:06So it looks like my hypothesis was right.
14:10Luckily, all the screws are the same length, so we should be able to put them in anywhere.
14:14So here is our little main board.
14:18A bit of corrosion on there, it looks like.
14:23Anyway, here is the keyboard.
14:25The keyboard is this membrane.
14:27Not even like a domed membrane.
14:31It might be domes in under there somewhere, but not like a conductive black pad on the dome
14:40that presses down.
14:41Here is the cartridge part.
14:43That plugs into here.
14:45The keyboard.
14:46Is it keyboard?
14:47No keyboard plugs in here.
14:49I just realised that should have been very obvious.
14:51I guess both of these are for this.
14:53I guess there's a lot of pins there, so if the processor is...
14:57I'm not sure.
14:58I can't see it anywhere.
15:00There seems to be a little unpopulated spots here.
15:03A bit of random wire there.
15:05A crystal there.
15:10I assume there would have to be something on the other side,
15:12because it doesn't seem to be nice for the actual processing of anything.
15:16I don't see a Thamaclone chip, so probably under there somewhere.
15:22Maybe we can take this off and see if we can have a look at under.
15:25Just try not to mess that thing up.
15:32I think it's just that one screw.
15:38And yep, so there's a little blob there, so the chip's under there.

15:45Oh, it's got stamped numbers.
15:47All eights though, so I assume it's still actually unique to each one.
15:54And this screw it is.
15:57So what I'll probably do now is...
15:59I'll probably make a separate video actually trying out this whole thing in the future.
16:05But for now, I'll probably do...
16:08Insert a couple clips.
16:10Just showing off what the actual cartridge look like.
16:13And testing the keyboard.
16:15And I'll include one of me actually using the family basic cartridge.
16:19To see if I can actually type in there.
16:21I might not record an audio for that.
16:24I might just put some titles on screen.
