Tensions escalated in central Delhi as Congress leader Rahul Gandhi along with other opposition leaders launched an unscheduled flash protest against the Election Commission of India and the central government. Delhi Police, alongside the Rapid Action Force and Central Reserve Police Force personnel, stepped up security and barricaded roads leading towards Jantar Mantar and the Election Commission. Heavy police deployment was seen from Janpath towards Sagar Ratna as protesters attempted to inch forward in buses. Key leaders including Mallikarjun Kharge and Derek O'Brien stated that authorities were preventing them from holding demonstrations, while asserting their resolve to remain on the streets regardless of detention. Opposition leaders and demonstrators carried the Indian national flag rather than party flags, framing the march as a unified effort to protect democratic processes.

00:00Rahul Gandhi has realized the opportunity at hand and there could be now a showdown with the Delhi police
00:05because unlike the previous protest, no permission granted this time and the police is prepared.
00:10What sources are telling us, flash protest, which is unplanned, unscheduled and can take the authorities by surprise.
00:18That protest on your screen, ladies and gentlemen, Rahul Gandhi is in a bus, my colleague Shreya Kundu on the
00:24ground.
00:25Protest continues against CEC, against the Election Commission functioning, against the Modi government
00:30and on a day when 25 years of public service of Prime Minister Modi being celebrated.
00:34So that's the latest on your screen.
00:36The strategy of Delhi police is, however, to wait and watch.
00:39If the members of parliament want to march toward Knot Place, that is where they won't be stopped.
00:44But if they try toward Election Commission, that is when Delhi police will intervene.
00:50Roads leading toward Jantar Bantar have been blocked.
00:52Additional forces of Rapid Action Force and Delhi police deployed, which means heavy security barricading in Central Delhi.
00:58If you are heading to that location, toward Jantar Bantar or areas or buildings around it, double check your routine
01:04because that is where a lot of detours are going to be planned.
01:07Shreya Kundu continues to be on the ground.
01:10I immediately want to bring her in on the news break.
01:13Shreya, quick points about what is the planning of Rahul Gandhi.
01:16He is in that bus right now, unlike last time he walked with Priyanka Gandhi Badra, sat on a dharna
01:22on the street.
01:23This time he is fully prepared.
01:24But is it going to be from one bus to another if the police detains him?
01:34All very good questions, Pooja, and a very good afternoon to you and all our viewers as well.
01:38Just to show you a bit of what's happening, as we have been tracking the developments,
01:43we have been walking along with the bus on this very road that leads from Janpat toward Jantar Bantar.
01:49Little by little, the bus is inching forward.
01:52What we could see is, toward the beginning, right outside Sagar Ratna, there was police presence.
01:58It was heavily guarded.
02:00But if you can now see, the entirety of the street has been lined up with police personnel.
02:05Be it cops on one side or even RAF personnel or CRPF personnel.
02:10They are all here.
02:11Now, in the middle of an entire reaction, reaction that was being given by Rahul Gandhi,
02:18the leader of the opposition, who was present at the very meeting today at Sagar Ratna,
02:22we could see more and more protesters were starting to gather.
02:25And then there were two buses that came in.
02:27Initially, while we were off the thought process that these buses might be for detentions
02:32if they try to, in fact, execute a flag.
02:36But we realized these buses were called by the political leaders themselves.
02:39So there was a quiet plan going on at the sidelines of this very meeting.
02:45And as Derek...
02:46We can't do this kind of damage.
02:48The decision is not possible to cut the vote.
02:50We could not see the поступ khut.
02:52We could second charge again be um IDE government.
03:08All right.
03:08So these are the leaders speaking.
03:10Rahul Gandhi is set to be speaking right now.
03:13We'll be waiting for that opportunity.
03:15Shreya, over to you now.
03:21Yes, so Pooja, as I was mentioning,
03:23so at this given point, Malik Arjun Kharge, Derek O'Brien,
03:26while we were speaking to them a little while back,
03:28they have come out to say that, look, the government's not allowing us to protest.
03:31The police is not allowing us to protest.
03:33The election commission is not even listening to us.
03:36They're that invincible.
03:37These are all claims coming in.
03:39But at the same time, they have said they're not going to leave the protest ground.
03:43They have said they're not going to leave the streets or the field.
03:45They will continue to protest detention or otherwise.
03:49Some of those dramatic visuals that came in yesterday from some of the protest sites,
03:53be it on the Parliament Street or even at the Akashmani Bhawan,
03:57those were very symbolic.
03:59And even in today's protest, Pooja, let me mention one thing very clearly.
04:03There's not a single party flag.
04:05That is very clear amongst all of these political leaders
04:08that no matter which political party they belong to,
04:11they will not be representing political ideologies,
04:14at least individual political ideologies here.
04:17But they're very sure that they are here for a cause in unison
04:21and that cause is to save the democracy.
04:23So the only flag that we can see around on the streets here is the Indian flag.
04:27Yes, some of the young protesters who have joined from the NSUI,
04:30they are carrying certain flags of their own,
04:33certain banners of their own.
04:35But that is just few and far in between.
04:38More and more of these political leaders or even protesters for that matter we see.
04:42In fact, Rahul Gandhi in a show of unity and very symbolic importance that it holds,
04:48because yesterday also we saw him dramatically hoist the flag from up on a barricade.
04:53Today as well we saw him enter Sagar Ratna with one such flag.
04:59Stay on with...
