High drama unfolded in central Delhi as Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, staged a dharna inside the Akashvani Bhavan complex after being stopped from marching towards Nirvachan Sadan. Top Congress leaders and opposition MPs sought to meet the Election Commission of India and demanded the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner. Delhi Police detained several Youth Congress and NSUI party workers near the gates to isolate the gathering and control the commotion. Confrontations were reported near the gates as leaders addressed media personnel through the grilles, alleging they were forcibly prevented from speaking and exercising democratic rights. In response, the Bharatiya Janata Party criticised the opposition agitation, stating the demonstrations undermine democratic norms and questioned Congress over allegations regarding voter list revisions.

00:00Continuing store coverage continues on of course the dhanna that has been put up by the Gandhi siblings
00:05outside Akashwani Bhavan in the heart of the national capital and as part of a live tracker
00:11the latest update coming in is that the top police officials in the Delhi police have spoken to both Rahul
00:16and Priyanka Gandhi.
00:18Remember the Gandhi siblings have been on a dhanna inside Akashwani Bhavan for the past several hours
00:22with several protesters already being detained but they stay undeterred.
00:26Top congress netas are inside Akashwani Bhavan which is of course the broadcasting office of the All India Radio
00:32just a stone's throw from Nirvachan Southern where of course the election commission sits
00:36which is what they are protesting against.
00:38Let me go across to my colleague Amit Bharwaj who's joining us with more details.
00:41Amit what's the latest about what's happening right now both inside and outside Akashwani Bhavan?
01:04All right. All right. In fact we understand KC Wainukopar Congress General Secretary is speaking and let's listen.
01:12What's happening right now.
01:45.
01:46.
01:46.
01:46.
01:46.
01:46.
01:48.
02:10What is happening, but this is, of course, Congress General Secretary KSVN Kapal trying
02:14to address, the media person saying, from what we understand, is that the Congress party
02:20is going to continue its agitation and its efforts to march till the Chief Election Commissioner's
02:25office in Irvatchan Southern, just a stone's throw away from where they are at this point,
02:29and they are going to stay steadfast on the demand that the CEC must resign among the
02:35demands.
02:36On the right of the screen, of course, the latest visuals which we got from the Gandhi
02:40siblings and Akashwani Bhavan.
02:41They have been on a dhanna for the past several hours now.
02:45He has also released a video in which, Rahul Gandhi just released a video which we will
02:49play out shortly for our viewers as well, in which he is outlining the fact that he is
02:54not going to budge from his stance and the police will have to physically detain him.
02:58It is, of course, something which echoes back to Rahul Gandhi's quite infamous protest which
03:04he had, dhanna, which he had had outside the Prime Minister's residence a few months ago
03:09at the height of the movement against then Education Minister Darmendra Pradhan, which
03:13had led to Rahul Gandhi and Piang Gandhi being physically detained and removed by the cops.
03:19My colleague Amit is with us at this point. Amit, can you hear me if you can?
03:22Please go ahead with the latest developments you know.
03:32Well, it was Rahul Gandhi's staff which had a confrontation with the Delhi police officials
03:38who are standing in front of the Akaswani Bhavan, and after that Rahul Gandhi and Pinka Gandhi-Wadra,
03:45both of them have stepped forward. And they are just looking at the development as things are unfolding.
03:53But Delhi police is continuously also trying to ensure that the Youth Congress Karikartas,
04:00the NSUI Karikartas and the Congress Karikartas are not near the Akaswani Bhavan.
04:07Most of them have been already detained by Delhi police, and whoever is left here and there
04:14is also getting detained. So that's the strategy to ensure and isolate, you know,
04:21the leaders of the Congress party who are inside Akaswani Bhavan right now. And after that,
04:28you know, possibly they will see as to whether Rahul Gandhi agrees to end his dharna or not,
04:35because there have been consultation with Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi-Wadra as well.
04:40That didn't work out well. And after that, what we can see is that, you know, again,
04:47whoever Karikartas, whatever Karikartas were there, near to the grills of the Akaswani Bhavan gate number 4,
04:54they are being physically removed by Delhi police personnel. So this is what is unfolding right now
05:02on ground zero, right now at Akaswani Bhavan. Back to you.
05:09So stay on with us. Let's now try and make sense of what KC Venigopal is speaking at this point.
05:17I am going to tell the whole country that you are now leaving the media.
05:24You are leaving the media, leaving the media.
05:27And you are leaving the media.
05:31You are still staying.
05:39Thank you very much.
06:31Oh
06:39India is witnessing your action.
06:43India is witnessing your action.
06:48India is witnessing your action.
06:51India is witnessing your action.
07:07India is witnessing your action.
07:09India is witnessing your action.
07:24Let's try and make sense of what's happening for our viewers.
07:27You can see the top Congress leaders inside Aakash Paveena.
07:31You can see that inside the complex,
07:34on the inside of these iron grates, that iron rod.
07:37Of course, you can see already Rahul Gandhi.
07:40You can see Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal.
07:43You can see senior Congress leader Pawan Khaira also, if I'm not mistaken, behind as well.
07:47Now, you just heard a snippet of Rahul Gandhi speaking amidst this commotion that we had just cut to,
07:52claiming that the Delhi police is trying to ensure that the media's coverage contingent from there is being removed.
07:59Now, that is, of course, a claim Rahul Gandhi is making.
08:01There is a lot of commotion going on at this point as, from what I understand,
08:06the media person trying to get access to Rahul Gandhi and the Congress leaders from outside the gates.
08:11To make more sense of what's happening at this point.
08:13Let me go across to Ahmed Bhagavad.
08:15Ahmed, we heard Rahul Gandhi saying that the Delhi police,
08:18that he claimed that the Delhi police is trying to remove media persons from the spot.
08:22Can you weigh in on that?
08:32We have lost Ahmed, but that's no surprise given the fact that you can get a sense of how chaotic
08:38the situation is at this point.
08:40There are slogans being raised.
08:41You also heard cries of people saying that there is this, that, you know,
08:47that avoid asking the others to, asking others to not crowd them so that people don't get injured.
08:53Let's listen in to what's happening right now at the ground.
08:55?
08:58?
08:59?
08:59?
09:00I'm sorry, I'm sorry.
09:31This is what, of course, is happening right now. Earlier today, in just a few minutes ago, Rahul Gandhi gave
09:35a statement in which he is claiming that he is being forcibly stopped from marching to Nirvachan Bhavan, which is
09:40the ECI headquarters. That's just around the corner. Let's listen to what he said.
09:52Let's listen to what he said.
10:37Let's listen to what he said.
10:44Let's listen to what he said.
11:141,300 MPs of the opposition from both houses of parliament are being forcibly stopped by the police from marching
11:22towards the election commission's office at Nirvachan Southern.
11:25They have been blocked outside Akashwari Bhavan, which is a stone's throw away from Nirvachan Bhavan.
11:32Akashwari Bhavan being the broadcasting center of the All India Radio for the past several hours.
11:38They were on a dhana, as you saw on the right of the screen, those visuals we are running at.
11:42Now, what we have seen is that, as Amit was pointing out, there has been a minus scuffle between protesters,
11:48some of the party workers and members and Delhi police as well.
11:52We can give you details that it has now been the situation has been brought under control.
11:56But what is happening now is the confrontation you see on your left here.
12:02Rahul Gandhi, KC Venugopal, Priyanka Gandhi, Pawan Khaira and other senior leaders of the Congress are inside the Akashwari Bhavan
12:09complex.
12:11Behind these doors, as you can see, they are not being allowed to speak to the camera persons directly.
12:17They are speaking to them behind, as they can say it, behind literal bars.
12:24And they are claiming, as you just heard from Rahul Gandhi, that they are not being allowed to speak to
12:29the media.
12:29And he also claimed the Delhi police is forcibly trying to detain them, block them from their march and refuse
12:37them access to the media.
12:38Now, this is, of course, scenes that we see in Indian politics on a fairly regular basis, although one can
12:44argue that it is unprecedented to see an opposition mobilization to this extent.
12:50Now, as we can see, live visuals of the Congress top leadership, including the Gandhi family, moving back.
12:56That is, of course, senior Congress media convener Supriya Bhadwaj trying to address, trying to speak to the media people
13:03here.
13:04And those are the visuals earlier that came in on the left of the screens.
13:15Now, while this has been going on, the BJP has, of course, been criticizing and lambasting the Congress, especially the
13:32Gandhi siblings, for continuing to make a mockery of democracy.
13:35We have seen these words. We heard from BJP spokespersons earlier. Let's listen to what they said.
13:42Let's listen to what they said.
13:49Let's listen to what they said.
14:28Let's listen to what they said.
14:28Let's listen to what they said.
14:28Let's listen to what they said.
14:49Let's listen to what they said.
14:51Let's listen to what they said.
