Security has been heightened in central Delhi following intelligence inputs regarding a possible flash protest by the Congress party and opposition Members of Parliament. Roads leading to Jantar Mantar and Janpath have been barricaded, with personnel from the Delhi Police, Rapid Action Force, ITBP, and CRPF deployed in large numbers. Opposition MPs, including Rahul Gandhi, gathered at a restaurant in Janpath for a lunch meet hosted by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge to draft a letter seeking an appointment with the Election Commission of India. Delhi Police adopted a wait-and-watch approach, stationing buses nearby for potential detentions if leaders attempt to stage demonstrations toward Jantar Mantar or Windsor Palace. The development follows protests and brief detentions of opposition leaders at Akashwani Bhavan the previous day.

00:00And we have breaking news coming at this point.
00:02This is security which has been beefed for flash protests by Congress.
00:06We've been showing you the visuals of the lunch meet that is undergoing at Janpath Road.
00:11Now, roads leading to Jantar Mantar have been blocked
00:13and the Delhi police has received intel on Congress's flash stir.
00:18So, additional forces of riot police have been deployed at the spot.
00:22There's heavy security outside Congress's lunch venue.
00:25And as per sources, Delhi police is gearing up for a flash protest by the Congress party.
00:30Inputs have been received by the police that a flash protest could be undertaken by the Congress party.
00:37So, heavy security is already in the area.
00:39And now with the intel that a possible protest could also be taken by the opposition MPs,
00:45the police is there on standby as well.
00:47There's heavy security towards all the roads leading towards Janpath.
00:51Janpath is also where Jantar Mantar is very close to the spot.
00:54And this is right there where at a restaurant all the opposition MPs are meeting
00:59and they want to sign a letter to meet the election commissioner.
01:03All the roads leading towards Jantar Mantar have been blocked
01:06with additional forces of RAF and Delhi police has been deployed.
01:10As per sources, the strategy of Delhi police is to wait and watch.
01:14If the MPs move towards CP, they won't be stopped.
01:18But if they try to move towards Jantar Mantar or Windsor Palace or towards any other place,
01:23the buses there will stop them and then action will be taken by Delhi police.
01:28So, so far, Delhi police has decided to wait and watch what the opposition MPs' next steps would be.
01:34And as per that, they will also either take an action or let them pass by freely.
01:39So far, we do not know if a flash protest will be taken up by the opposition MPs.
01:44But likely from the intel that has been received by the Delhi police as well,
01:48heavy security has been deployed in the area because this lunch has been going on for a while now
01:53where all the MPs are meeting.
01:54And this has been hosted by Congress leader Khadge,
01:58where all the MPs are meeting at Janpat at the lunch venue.
02:01And they have decided to write a letter requesting meeting with the election commissioner of India.
02:07Now, we really have to see if how well this lunch goes
02:11and what really will be the decisions taken inside that meeting as well.
02:15Since morning, we've been getting various reactions from MPs saying that there might be some action,
02:21but they're not really hinting towards anything.
02:23Now, as per the inputs received by the Delhi police,
02:26there is likely to be a flash protest.
02:28So, they are now waiting and watching.
02:30If these MPs move towards CP and try to go away from that area,
02:34then there will be no action.
02:36But if they find that the MPs are trying to stage a protest or trying to sit in somewhere,
02:41they will likely take an action against these MPs as well.
02:45Many members of the opposition parties are present at the side.
02:49These are also the visuals which have been pouring in since morning,
02:52since 1pm, since they have been meeting together for this lunch meet as well.
02:56Now, they're going to sit there and write a letter,
02:59draft a letter to the election commission of India till yesterday.
03:02The election commission said that when the opposition parties were staging a stir
03:07and sitting in at Akashwani Bhavan yesterday,
03:09election commission said they hadn't received a request from them till 4pm.
03:14This is of yesterday.
03:15But today now, this is a fresh meeting being undertaken by the opposition MPs
03:20where all of them have decided to sit together and draft a letter
03:23to the election commission of India seeking an appointment with them.
03:27So, all of the MPs have been pouring in to the restaurants in Jandpat
03:31where they're likely at a South Indian eatery
03:36where they're likely to sit together and write this letter.
03:39So, we've been seeing visuals of all of these MPs being there since morning.
03:43All the roads have been packed at Jandpat as well.
03:46This is central dairy very close also to Jantar Mantar
03:49which has been the protest site for a lot of action
03:51that we've been seeing against the government as well.
03:54So, now we're seeing that there could be a possible protest by the opposition MPs
04:00but the Delhi Police is on standby in case of any action.
04:04The MPs will be stopped and action will be taken by the Delhi Police.
04:07But so far, they're only waiting and watching
04:09because the opposition MPs haven't really revealed their plan of action so far.
04:14So, in the next few moments, we could see,
04:16especially given the kind of protest we saw yesterday,
04:19we could see some sort of a flash protest happening as well.
04:22Remember, as we're talking also, Aam Admi Party had also,
04:25yesterday was not part of the protest.
04:27It said that it would join the protest today.
04:30So, we saw some sort of action from the Aam Admi Party as well
04:34but they were stopped when they were trying to cross the barricades.
04:37Now, all of the opposition MPs are here at the venue.
04:41There will be conversations going on about what their likely next plan of action will be.
04:45Now, yesterday we had seen that Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi,
04:49when they were not allowed to go to the Election Commission's office,
04:52they were not allowed to march,
04:53they decided to sit in and crash the Akashwani Bhawan
04:56and FIR has also been registered against them
04:59for trespassing the Akashwani Bhawan
05:01because it is a government office.
05:04And now, late in the night, we saw them getting detained as well
05:08and briefly being detained
05:09and after that, they were released as well.
05:11So, these are the opposition MPs now meeting at the lunch menu.
05:14For more on that, we have Anshul Singh joining us.
05:16Anshul, so now we're seeing that the opposition MPs are lunching at Janpat.
05:22What is likely their next plan of action?
05:24Because as per Delhi Police,
05:26they are on standby in case there is any flash protest by the MPs as well.
05:33Well, yes, inputs have been received
05:34and there could be a flash protest that could be carried out
05:36by the senior leaders of the Congress Party
05:38and they could actually go towards Jantar Madhar.
05:40Currently, I'm reporting from right outside Sagar Ratna,
05:43near Janpat where all these MPs are currently having their lunch
05:47and they haven't started to step out.
05:49But if I could just give you a sense of these visuals over here,
05:53every security deployment has been made throughout this entire route.
05:56And remember, I'll just try and show you on the other side as well.
06:00Over here, this is the road that leads straight from Janpat
06:05towards Jantar Madhar.
06:06And you can see the kind of deployment that has been made over here.
06:09ITBG personnel, Rapid Action Force personnel,
06:11scary police personnel,
06:12all of them have been deployed in huge numbers
06:14because the inputs that have now been received,
06:17it says that the Congress Party could actually try to go ahead
06:19and carry out a flash protest at Jantar Madhar.
06:23And hence, this massive security deployment
06:25has been made at this point in time.
06:41Let me also cut across to Shriya who's been at the site
06:44and she's been also tracking the lunch meet.
06:46Shriya, what is the sense that you're picking up from the MPs there?
06:49They've been there for a while now.
06:51The plan is also to possibly go and do a flash protest.
06:54The police says they are on standby
06:56in case there is any action that will happen.
07:01Oh, absolutely, Jessica.
07:03As we speak, in fact, the number of policemen,
07:07the number of cops, RAF, CRPF that was deployed here
07:12before the politicians had arrived here was much less.
07:18In fact, I'm asking my camera person, Sanjay Kumar,
07:21to point out at the exact bus.
07:23This bus has arrived roughly around 30 minutes back at this very location,
07:28which only amps up anticipation about perhaps a flash protest that will take place.
07:35But again, at the same time, if the flash protest is to take place at Jantar Madhar,
07:40then we do not understand the requirement of the bus.
07:42Is this a bus from the cops' side for detentions, if at all, they tried for a protest or not?
07:49Well, these are questions that are mounting.
07:51But let me tell you, as I'm speaking, by the clock, it is 3-5.
07:56And there are several of the political leaders that have started exiting.
08:00In fact, you can see the flag, the Indian flag that was brought in,
08:06that was hoisted and brought in by the leader of the opposition of the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi.
08:11That's yet again right outside the gate of Sagar Ratna.
08:15In fact, Pawan Khera, Manikam Tagore,
08:18we saw some of the veteran leaders,
08:19Kapil Sipal, a little while back, they were coming out.
08:23So, what exactly is going to happen next?
08:26Well, the tensions here currently are running high.
08:30Everybody's anticipating that a flash protest is probable.
08:34Whether it'll be at Jantar Mantar,
08:36which is just as I speak, I can spot Jantar Mantar from here.
08:39It's that close by, just a few kilometers away.
08:42But then why the bus?
08:43Is the bus for more detentions to take place today?
08:46We now see that all of these MPs are exiting from the Lounge
08:50because it's been a while since they've been there as well.
08:53So, now we're seeing that there are preparations underway.
08:55The MPs are exiting.
08:56So, soon, possibly, we could see some action
08:59if that's been decided by the MPs.
09:01A protest of some sort happening at the spot as well.
