A planned protest march by the opposition INDIA bloc from Parliament towards the Election Commission of India office caused major disruptions on Sansad Marg in central Delhi. Delhi Police erected barricades to prevent the MPs from reaching Nirvachan Sadan, leading to brief detentions of several leaders, including Akhilesh Yadav, Priyanka Gandhi, and Rahul Gandhi. Demonstrators hopped off detention buses and entered the premises of Akashwani Bhavan, located approximately 270 metres from the poll body's office. The opposition leaders settled into an indefinite sit-in on the premises, requesting either a direct meeting with the Chief Election Commissioner or an officially designated alternate protest site in the capital. The demonstration continued for over six hours, with leaders insisting on their constitutional right to peacefully assemble, while police maintained restrictions under Section 163.

00:00What you're seeing right now is a very planned protest, which has gone into a complete surprise for the BJP
00:08and especially for the Delhi police, which doesn't know what to do next.
00:13Now, while we look at those visuals, let me give you a context.
00:20While we look at those pictures and we try to understand what is going to happen next, I just want
00:25to give you a context.
00:26For anybody who's outside Delhi and does not understand, let me show you where exactly this protest is happening and
00:33how it unfolded.
00:35Let's throw up the map graphic here of Central Delhi, where the entire protest is actually taking place.
00:41Alright, so this is where you are.
00:43This is where at 10.30 in the morning, the protest started.
00:47This is the parliament complex.
00:49I'm giving you a bird's eye view.
00:51This is Google Earth.
00:52This is the parliament complex.
00:54Here is the Sonsad Marg.
00:55The EC office is right over here.
00:58It's not a lot of distance, but it's still quite a bit to sort of go and walk.
01:01What happened at 10.30 in the morning?
01:03At 10.30 in the morning, you have opposition MPs who begin their march.
01:07They come.
01:09They come outside with this huge banner.
01:12Lots of them, a united opposition, India block.
01:15We see them with their posters and banners in hand.
01:18They have started that march.
01:19They are still inside the parliament as you can see in the picture.
01:21Let's move to the next one.
01:23What happened next?
01:24Next, they have now walked.
01:27They have walked further on the Sonsad Marg.
01:30You see the Sonsad Marg that will take you all the way to EC office.
01:33They have walked on the Sonsad Marg, which is where a barricade has been put.
01:38This is the visual which will be there in all newspaper headlines tomorrow,
01:42which is of Rahul Gandhi holding the India flag and standing on top of the barricades.
01:47These are the visuals again that you will see in the front pages of the newspapers,
01:52which is about, you know, Triyanka Gandhi there, along with the chief of the Yuva Sena of the Congress Party,
02:00of the Youth Congress as well.
02:02All of them on top of barricades.
02:03This is where a lot of leaders of the other political parties, the opposition parties like the SP, TMC, etc.,
02:12were detained as well.
02:13Until now, you have the entire India bloc.
02:15Now you have detentions beginning to happen.
02:19Rahul and Priyanka briefly detained, taken inside a bus, but then they come out of the bus.
02:24Because I'll show you in the next one what happened.
02:26They hopped out of the bus and then you see again, before that, Akhilesh Yadav detained as well inside the
02:32bus.
02:33It is all until here, more than, in fact, less than half way mark again of reaching the Election Commission's
02:40office,
02:40is where all the leaders are detained.
02:43But then what happens?
02:46Then what happens?
02:49Rahul Gandhi has now, and this is what our colleagues were trying to explain to you.
02:53Now imagine a road, a road like this, a barricade being put in, leaders are on top, leaders have been
03:00detained.
03:01Now what does Rahul Gandhi do?
03:02He sees an open gate, that gate is of the Akashwani Bhawan.
03:08He says, fine, you want to block me over here.
03:10He enters inside the Akashwani Bhawan and this is the gate of the Akashwani Bhawan.
03:15He's forcing his way in and saying, if you put barricades on the road, I'm going to enter inside the
03:21Bhawan.
03:21So this is Rahul Gandhi over here, trying to get his way and force his way inside the Akashwani Bhawan.
03:27Let's see what happens next.
03:30Inside the Akashwani Bhawan, now Rahul, Priyanka, other leaders, all of them have reached and they're saying,
03:37okay, now you have blocked us from all 360 sides.
03:40We are going to sit here.
03:42This is our site of protest.
03:44What is the site of protest?
03:45Let us go back to the map.
03:46You see this gap?
03:48They started here from parliament, all the way on the sunset mark.
03:52This is where Akashwani Bhawan is barely 270 meters.
03:56If you go back, you'll be 4 minutes away from the election commission office.
04:03270 meters, just 4 minutes away is where the entire leadership of the congress party is now sitting in.
04:14We are now getting reports that they're calling for mattresses, etc.
04:18And saying, we're going to sit in here with three demands.
04:20They're saying, either let us meet the chief election commissioner or give us a place to protest because you're not
04:27letting us sit anywhere else.
04:28We all know what happened over the weekend when protests were being held by CJP, by other ISA groups, by
04:35other left outfits as well, by some young outfits as well.
04:39And all of them were detained.
04:40They said, Janatar Mantar will not be open for protests at the moment.
04:43Or he's saying, you detain me.
04:45Now the Delhi police is in a fix.
04:47They had planned for a protest on the sunset mark.
04:49They did not plan for what is going to happen inside Akashwani Bhawan, where it has actually, the entire scene
04:55has unfolded.
04:57So that's the picture.
04:59That's the picture for you on where it is going and how the protests, this entire thing has taken six
05:05hours and counting.
05:06We don't know what is going to happen next.
05:09But in the process, lots of soundbites came in.
05:12Lots of leaders spoke about what they want.
05:14Why don't you take a look at that while we take you through the next report.
05:49What are you, sir?
05:55You're done.
05:55And you're written.
05:56Sir, what do you see?

06:32The sound of the country has been disrespected.
06:35We have not done anything wrong.
06:37We just want to go to the election commissioner.
06:39We want to ask questions.
06:42They want to ask questions.
06:43They want to ask questions.
06:44We want to ask questions.
06:46What are you going to do?

07:50We sit, comfortably sit.
07:52We are protesting in the constitution of Hindustan.
07:57Thank you, sir.

08:03saying he is very comfortable in that protest.
08:05He is saying he is getting tea, there is a toilet,
08:08everything is fine and he will not move
08:11until Delhi police either removes him by force
08:15or gives him an alternate place to go and protest.
08:19That's Rahul Gandhi now six hours into the protest,
08:23talking about how they are committed at the moment
08:26to ensure that there is indeed an interaction that he gets with the CEC.
08:32The demands for the Congress party are simple.

08:36They want the ouster of the CEC.
08:40The chief election commissioner, Yanesh Kumar.
08:44And they are saying they will not stop till the time it happens.
