00:00:01Hello, Assen. It's the second race of the weekend for the RNG Moto4 British Cup.

00:00:05My name is Tom Brooks. Alongside me, Danny Buchan, here to guide you through the action.

00:00:09And if you missed the superbike race just a few moments ago, then let me fill you in on it.

00:00:13It was red flagged. It was a sprint race that was delayed due to a blow-up for Rory Skinner.

00:00:17When we got things back underway, all seemed fair and well.

00:00:20However, the rain came out about three laps before the end.

00:00:23A red flag was thrown. A result was called.

00:00:26And the rain was still coming down a couple of moments or so ago.

00:00:28So it's a fairly light intensity, but a case of, again, mixed tyre choices out there for various different riders.

00:00:34I'm just looking at the riders who are on the front two rows of the grid.

00:00:37And I can see that Clayton Edmunds has got a slick front tyre.

00:00:39Here is Marco Holt, the man who went on to take a victory here yesterday.

00:00:43And it looks like pretty much everybody else going for slick tyres here, Danny, as well.

00:00:47Yeah, I'm not quite sure what Dunabee's got on the front there.

00:00:49I'm sure I saw him with a wet front there, but I can't confirm that.

00:00:53I almost want to run out the comms booth, Tom, and have a quick look.

00:00:55But I'm not going to do that because that wouldn't be professional.

00:00:58So, yeah, I'm excited for this race.

00:01:00I mean, it has just started to, you know, spin down a little bit.

00:01:03I saw Marco Holt's dad and I said, have you got wets under there?

00:01:06And he said, yeah.

00:01:08But at the minute we're leaving the slicks in.

00:01:10So, yeah, I don't know.

00:01:12I mean, at the minute it's dry, is their brain pending?

00:01:15Who knows?

00:01:16We have got Mr. Whittam in the box and he is renowned for his weather accuracy.

00:01:20So maybe we need to ask the question.

00:01:22Yeah, which weather watch I'm sure will be coming out of play here this afternoon

00:01:25as the riders departing from the grid and they make their way on to the warm-up lab.

00:01:30It does look fairly dry out there.

00:01:32The rain that did come down wasn't of a particularly heavy intensity

00:01:34and it does dry quite quickly here at the Aston circuit.

00:01:40Fairly, fairly windy as well, which will help things.

00:01:43Now, Ryan Frost had a 35-point lead in the championship going into this weekend.

00:01:46You can see Jack Dunabee there has closed that gap down to 31 points.

00:01:50Look at the grey clouds overhead as we're looking here at the championship standings.

00:01:53Jack Burrows and Marco Holt now separated by just nine points there.

00:01:58Sorry, seven points, I beg your pardon, between third and fourth place in the standings.

00:02:01And Luke Fitchard and Mason Foster also just ten points away from each other

00:02:04in fifth and sixth place respectively.

00:02:09So then, 23 riders set to take to the grid here for this race.

00:02:12Slightly shorter than was originally planned.

00:02:14We're down from 14 to 12 laps.

00:02:16It's Luke Fitchard who had the quickest lap from yesterday.

00:02:17He lines up on pole position with Marco Holt and Mason Foster

00:02:20joining him on the front row.

00:02:23Row two is headed by Jack Burrows with Clayton Edmonds

00:02:25and Jack Dunabee for company.

00:02:26Then it's Thorley Travoro on row three.

00:02:29He was really fast yesterday along with his teammate Tyler Humphreys.

00:02:32They finished in sixth and seventh place respectively,

00:02:34lining up in seventh and eighth in Harrison Day alongside.

00:02:36Then it's Ryan Frost, the championship leader on row four

00:02:39with Isaiah Devine and Dan Stevenson.

00:02:41Then row five is Josh Williams with Charlie Cunningham and Alex Lomas

00:02:45who struggled in the wet condition for the Spaniard yesterday afternoon.

00:02:47George Bowes, Henry McCartney and Hudson Cooper on row six

00:02:50with Luke Morghreif, the Dutch wildcard,

00:02:53Archie Hooper and Lily Rhodes on row seven.

00:02:55Ollie O'Gorman and Max Rhodes completing row eight

00:02:58and the 23 rider strong field.

00:03:01Now, Danny, yesterday we saw a bit of an off-color race for Ryan Frost,

00:03:04just the wrong tire choice seemingly for the MLAV racing grid team.

00:03:09And do you think that that is something to keep an eye on here today

00:03:12in terms of the rate of progression he'll be able to make through the field?

00:03:15Or do you think he needs to just put that to the back of his mind,

00:03:17go out there and get himself as high of the order as he can?

00:03:20I think we're going to see Ryan Frost arrive with a little bit of anger,

00:03:23you know, because when you have a disappointing race,

00:03:26obviously, you know, he's out there to win.

00:03:27So finishing ninth place yesterday was not on his bingo car, let's say.

00:03:32So I think he's going to come out today.

00:03:34You know, we saw in the Northern Motor 4 Talent Cup,

00:03:37it punches right up here.

00:03:39And it seems to be easy for them to get from the back of that bunch to the front.

00:03:42So I really think we're going to see a big group of riders here.

00:03:45And I think Ryan Frost is going to be right amongst the front.

00:03:47All riders, as far as we're aware, on dry tires.

00:03:49No surprise at all.

00:03:50Looks like there's even a smattering of sunshine

00:03:52trying to break through the clouds in some areas of the circuit.

00:03:54Green flag, though, is waved at the back.

00:03:56Race 2 of the Mozo 4.

00:03:58British Cup about to get underway here at Aston.

00:04:00Wait for the red lights to come on.

00:04:03Long hold for the riders.

00:04:04Red lights on.

00:04:05Lights are out of the way.

00:04:06Good start from Fitchett.

00:04:07Nice one off the outside of the front row for Mason Foster as well.

00:04:09He got a really good initial launch as they blast down towards the first corner.

00:04:12Marco holds away quite nicely from the middle of the front row.

00:04:15Looks like he's going to get the whole shot as we head into Turn 1.

00:04:17Dunnaby looking through on the inside there.

00:04:19He's up in the third place.

00:04:20Fitchett relegated from the pole position then down to fourth position

00:04:23as they blast their way through the first corner.

00:04:26But Mason Foster with the whole shot for the time being.

00:04:29However, Marco Holt was looking up his inside into Turn 2.

00:04:32Couldn't quite make it stick, though.

00:04:33Foster still leads as they head through to the first left-hander.

00:04:36Yes, I'm just looking a bit further back there, Tom,

00:04:38to see where Ryan Frost is.

00:04:40I can't see him inside the top ten down there,

00:04:43but my counting's not the best right now,

00:04:46and there's a lot of bites.

00:04:47Look at Tyler Humphreys.

00:04:48He's come through from eighth place,

00:04:49up into third position on the grid racing MLAV Honda as well.

00:04:52He's in the slipstream here of Marco Holt,

00:04:54looking to try and challenge for the race lead.

00:04:56He splits Foster and Holt then as they come through

00:04:59in towards the left-hander of the Ruskinhook for the first time.

00:05:02Keep an eye out as well for Fitchett

00:05:04and also Jack Dunabee looking to try

00:05:06and get their presence known in this race.

00:05:10And Ryan Frost up to seventh place,

00:05:12according to our graphics along the last time.

00:05:14He's just in the background of your picture there

00:05:16on board the number 24.

00:05:18So we'll keep an eye out and see what sort of rate of progression

00:05:20the pink helmet that he's got on just behind now,

00:05:23Jack Burrows, who is in P-Sticks as it stands currently.

00:05:26Yeah, Tyler Humphreys is really impressive.

00:05:28The last few rounds, we've really seen him move forward

00:05:30and make a great rate of progression there.

00:05:32And yeah, Marco Holt on the screen there,

00:05:34just doesn't want to waste any time getting to the front.

00:05:39Yeah, so Holt back through into the race lead there.

00:05:41And it does get quite bunched up here in the MOTO4 British Cup

00:05:44as we're used to seeing.

00:05:45And Mason Foster there on the inside of the number 19

00:05:48of Tyler Humphreys.

00:05:50Three abreast of the race lead there,

00:05:51down in towards the breakers of the Kurt Timber-Cherkaine.

00:05:54Luke Fitzgerid with a big set.

00:05:55He's going to run it deep, though.

00:05:56That's going to cost him drive also onto the start-finish straight.

00:05:59Holt goes through and it might leave him vulnerable

00:06:00to the charging riders behind.

00:06:02Fitzgerid almost onto the grass down the start-finish straight.

00:06:05Tyler Humphreys there, way off to the left-hand side of your pitcher.

00:06:08He's going to have the inside line.

00:06:09Can he use it to his advantage to break deep into turn one?

00:06:11No, he can't.

00:06:12Sits up on the RS City lifting bikes.

00:06:14Think that's Dunnaby, who's off into the car park

00:06:16down at the first corner.

00:06:17No, it is actually Fitzgerid who's gone off and gone wide

00:06:20and he's now dropped down behind Clayton Edmonds.

00:06:23Yeah, Fitzgerid got really unlucky there.

00:06:25He ran it deep to the go to the chicane,

00:06:26lost a little bit of drive onto the start-finish straight, Tom,

00:06:29and then he was just hung out to dry at turn one.

00:06:31It happens.

00:06:32I think we're going to see him back towards the front now.

00:06:34A little bit of a bee in his bonnet, so let's see.

00:06:36So, Dunnaby it is that's now leading from his teammate Marco Holtz,

00:06:40and Ryan Frost across the line was in fifth position,

00:06:42looking to challenge against Mason Foster,

00:06:45and also Jack Burrows there as well.

00:06:47In fact, he's in front of Mason Foster.

00:06:48Burrows will be his next target, who's in third place.

00:06:52So a nice start to the race then for the championship leader.

00:06:55I was down speaking to the team manager for the Fivertech Honda squad,

00:06:58Nathan Smith, earlier on this weekend,

00:07:00and he was praising not only Ryan Frost's race craft on the bike,

00:07:03but also just his maturity off it as well.

00:07:05He said as a rider and as a person,

00:07:07he's come such a long way over the course of this year.

00:07:11And he said actually outside of this as well,

00:07:12he really values how much racing means to him.

00:07:15He understands the value of life in general.

00:07:18And what I mean by that is that growing up in a motor racing paddock,

00:07:21you can often end up sort of getting quite conditioned to the environment,

00:07:25but he understands, you know, a quid is worth a quid.

00:07:27And if he's going out there, he's got to earn money and that sort of thing.

00:07:31So outside of this,

00:07:32he's actually working in his nan and granddad's tyre shop,

00:07:35you know, outside of racing.

00:07:36So he's doing a good job to not only lead the race,

00:07:38but also earn a living outside of it,

00:07:41which is really, really important.

00:07:42Gets a head shake on as he overtakes Marco Holt

00:07:45down into the Hurt Timmer chicane

00:07:46and makes his way up into second place.

00:07:48Yeah, you've got to keep your feet grounded.

00:07:49You know, it's very easy when you're in this paddock

00:07:51and doing well and winning races to, you know,

00:07:54have a lot of people singing your praise and talking you up

00:07:57and, yeah, there's nothing like good old grounding.

00:07:59So, yeah, good old day's work.

00:08:01That sort him out, that will.

00:08:02Yeah, absolutely.

00:08:03Oh, no, that's a shame there for the number 34.

00:08:05Charlie Cunningham, he's gone off

00:08:07and looks like a technical problem.

00:08:09He's bringing an end to his race.

00:08:11So, looks like he will sadly be going no further than lap three.

00:08:16Meanwhile, Jack Dunnerby up the inside of Marco Holt

00:08:19as they go through turn two.

00:08:20Ryan Frost it is,

00:08:21who we were talking about a couple of moments ago,

00:08:22that is now leading.

00:08:24Well, a hard day's graph may be on the way after this one,

00:08:26but the front of the race beckons

00:08:28for the championship leader once more.

00:08:30Yeah, love it.

00:08:37I think Marco Holt's going to take it to him.

00:08:39Dunnerby, you know,

00:08:40not in his eyes yesterday,

00:08:42not the best race finish.

00:08:43You know, he wants to be winning races regularly.

00:08:45We know he likes to do that.

00:08:47So, yeah, I'm excited to see how this 12 and a bit laps,

00:08:50sorry, can't do the maths,

00:08:52nine and a bit laps adds up.

00:08:54Yeah, it was supposed to be 12 and a bit,

00:08:55but we've cut it down a little bit

00:08:56due to the delays we saw for the British Superbike race

00:08:59a few minutes ago.

00:09:01Strong starts, sadly, coming to not much,

00:09:03unfortunately, for a couple of riders,

00:09:06including Tyler Humphreys.

00:09:07He was up at the sharp end of the field,

00:09:08as we saw.

00:09:09He's now just dropped down into seventh.

00:09:11So, a bit of work to do,

00:09:13maybe, to regroup for him here.

00:09:14Another rider who I think will be hoping

00:09:16to make a bit of progress in this one

00:09:18and more of an impression

00:09:18is also Harrison Day.

00:09:20You'll see him there with the Dayglow orange machine

00:09:22in the background of your picture.

00:09:23He was talking to his dad, Josh Day.

00:09:24He was a very cumbersome British Superstock rider

00:09:26and also a former champion as well for that matter.

00:09:28He said, we've just got the tyre call wrong.

00:09:30He was stood there in the pit lane,

00:09:31wants to keep out of his son's way

00:09:32as we see a move being made there

00:09:33with Jack Burrows up the inside of Brian Frost

00:09:35for second place.

00:09:37But he said, look, I didn't want to get in the way of it.

00:09:39I just wanted to let him go on.

00:09:40So, I shouted at the pit wall, said, yeah, put him on dries.

00:09:42So, his lad said, yeah, put it on dries.

00:09:44And they were like, hang on a minute,

00:09:45they didn't know who they were listening to.

00:09:46And if they'd realised they were listening to Josh,

00:09:48they'd have probably stuck it on dry tyres

00:09:49and they'd put it on weps instead.

00:09:51And ultimately, that proved to be the wrong call,

00:09:52which is what's cost Harrison so much yesterday.

00:09:54Yeah, it happens.

00:09:55It's part of the learning curve.

00:09:57But I just want to shout out Jack Burrows here

00:09:59because him and Marco Holt have got to beat each other.

00:10:02You know, there's only seven points between them.

00:10:05And I really do believe that Jack Burrows wants to get this done.

00:10:11So, yeah, they're going to be going toe-to-toe, I think,

00:10:14as well as these two at the front here, Frost and Dunabee.

00:10:16Yeah, Dunabee then it is that's leading on board

00:10:18the black and green RS racing machine.

00:10:21Ryan Sacks will be the man who runs that team

00:10:23and has been so instrumental to many riders' careers over the years.

00:10:27And if you're new to the Moto4 British Cup,

00:10:30first of all, welcome along.

00:10:31It's great to have your company.

00:10:32But you'll notice the RS racing bikes are in two different colour schemes

00:10:34in the black and green for the likes of Dunabee and Luke Fitchard

00:10:37and then for Marco Holt and Clayton Edmonds,

00:10:39also part of the RS racing team.

00:10:41But they're in the red livery

00:10:42with the city lifting banners on the side of it.

00:10:46Through to the left-hander we go.

00:10:48Holt's off onto the kerb lid, a bit wide.

00:10:50He's just going to lose a bit of ground here then.

00:10:52And it might open an opportunity up here

00:10:54for Jack Burrows to pick his pocket

00:10:55as they come through the right-hander.

00:10:56Slightly shallower line there for Burrows.

00:10:58I think that's going to cost him a bit of drive ultimately

00:11:00onto the back straight

00:11:00and maybe not allow the opportunity to attack

00:11:04that he was subsequently hoping for here.

00:11:07Yeah, that makes...

00:11:08Sorry there, Danny.

00:11:09It's also opening the door for Alex Lomas here as well

00:11:11who's really coming to his own in these drier conditions.

00:11:15Yeah, I was going to say, Tom,

00:11:16the next group led by Fitchard

00:11:17has got Trevorrow, Day, Edmonds, Cooper

00:11:20and Bose in it as well.

00:11:21So they're in a good battle a little bit further back.

00:11:24Oh, off track there.

00:11:25Tyler Humphreys, I think, was just out of the seat there

00:11:27slightly, wasn't he, in the background

00:11:29in the number 19 of the Fibre-Tech Honda.

00:11:31Side by side we are, meanwhile,

00:11:32for the race lead at the start of lap five.

00:11:35Dunabee holds firm at the sharp end of this one for now.

00:11:38You can see the rate of progression

00:11:39that Dunabee and Frost have made up.

00:11:41Five and eight places there, respectively.

00:11:43Tomas also having made good ground.

00:11:45Lap record last time also as well,

00:11:47a 1.47.833.

00:11:50Previous lap record to that was a 1.48.635.

00:11:54So it really does go to show, you know,

00:11:55eight tenths per second quicker on these machines.

00:11:58They are going quite a fair bit faster this year.

00:12:02Marco Holt there just sitting in the wheel tracks

00:12:03of them at the moment.

00:12:04And you wonder,

00:12:05you see the fairies shaking around here

00:12:07in the slipstream as he pulls alongside Ryan Frost

00:12:09when he's going to make his move.

00:12:11So the inside line to the Ruskin hook.

00:12:13It's a brave man who can pull that one off,

00:12:14but I think he's going to have a go at this one there,

00:12:16you know, as we look here at Jack Dunabee.

00:12:18And Marco Holt goes through on Ryan Frost

00:12:19and now he's attacking his teammate

00:12:21through into the right-hander then here

00:12:23of Steckenbauer.

00:12:26Yeah, Marco Holt rides so aggressively

00:12:27and he doesn't leave much room.

00:12:30And such a nice lad off the bike.

00:12:33I'll tell you what, though.

00:12:34He's got the helmets off

00:12:34and they're just like,

00:12:35all right, mate.

00:12:36That's brilliant, isn't it?

00:12:37But I'll tell you what he did, though.

00:12:37He's looking at Ryan Frost.

00:12:38He was able to pick the pocket of him

00:12:39whilst they were busy involved

00:12:40in their own scrap with each other.

00:12:42And Frost now through into the race lead here.

00:12:45Yeah, this is going to be one of them races, Tom.

00:12:47They're going to be swapping positions

00:12:48every corner, every lap.

00:12:50And it's going to be

00:12:51who is in the best position, obviously,

00:12:54into the Gertz of the chicane,

00:12:55who's going to be further back and have a lunge,

00:12:57who's going to be defensive.

00:12:59Already starting to see the top three now

00:13:00beginning to break away, aren't we,

00:13:02for the rest of the pack.

00:13:03Look, Burrows and Lomas, Humphreys and Foster, etc.,

00:13:06all of whom are involved in their own squabble.

00:13:08And you can see that's going on

00:13:09quite significantly behind,

00:13:10including the two Fivertech Honda teammates

00:13:12of Lomas and Humphreys

00:13:13who are side-by-side with one another.

00:13:16Lomas there now on the retaliation

00:13:18against Humphreys

00:13:19as they come on to the start-finish straight.

00:13:21But, yeah, this is going to be an interesting squabble

00:13:23that will go on at the sharp end of this one.

00:13:25The problem they've got now is,

00:13:26even though they've put a bit of daylight

00:13:27between themselves and the following four riders,

00:13:30if they start beating each other up a bit too much,

00:13:32it suddenly goes from a three-way fight

00:13:33to a seven-way fight.

00:13:35It's exactly what we saw in the BMW Sprint

00:13:37earlier on this morning.

00:13:38Yeah, as soon as they start passing each other

00:13:40and the group behind stay in line,

00:13:42you know, they'll just work their way to the front.

00:13:44And we saw it earlier, Tom, as you just mentioned,

00:13:47you know, there's a bit of a gap,

00:13:47three, four attempts,

00:13:48and that got closed up really quickly,

00:13:50like, into the last chicane.

00:13:51So, yeah, I mean,

00:13:53I'm not sure if any of these are bothered.

00:13:55I think, as I've said previously,

00:13:57attacking is the best defence,

00:13:58and I think they just go into the attack mode

00:14:00the moment the clutch goes out

00:14:01and the lights go out.

00:14:02Yeah, ultimately, as well,

00:14:03I imagine a lot of these riders

00:14:04have only been watching

00:14:05the Moto4 Northern Cup season finale

00:14:07a little bit earlier on this afternoon.

00:14:08Just trying to get some tips

00:14:09and see what's going on out there

00:14:10as you see Marco Hull

00:14:12having a look to the inside

00:14:13into the right hand of Steckenbauer.

00:14:15Can't make it stick through there

00:14:16on Ryan Frost.

00:14:18Oh, look, Remesel Lomas

00:14:20has just done a tear-off

00:14:21and it's caught round Fitchett's brake lever,

00:14:23round the front of the brake lever guy,

00:14:24like, round his hand.

00:14:25That feels horrible, that does,

00:14:27because it makes a really flapping noise,

00:14:28like the plastic flapping sound.

00:14:30It's really off-putting, so...

00:14:31But you can't take your hand off,

00:14:33you know, under braking.

00:14:34You can't take your hand off full stop

00:14:35because you're either twisting the throttle

00:14:36or holding the brake.

00:14:37It's really annoying.

00:14:38Yeah, it looks like it's worked its way loose

00:14:39just by losing the force of gravity.

00:14:41In fact, though, it hasn't, I beg your pardon.

00:14:42Or is it a bit of tape, actually,

00:14:43off the radiator that's pulled off

00:14:44that's not quite come clear?

00:14:46Maybe a bit of tape ended up

00:14:47on Remesel Lomas' visor

00:14:48and he's pulled it off.

00:14:49Oh, no, it's round his...

00:14:51Look, see, yeah, it's still round the...

00:14:53round there.

00:14:53Yeah, it looks like he's got

00:14:54some, like, party streamers

00:14:56on the side of the bike here, doesn't it?

00:14:57It's not slowing him down too much

00:14:58because he's gone for a big send there

00:15:00on the inside of Jack Burrows

00:15:01into the Gertzimish again.

00:15:03It makes it stick quite nicely.

00:15:04It may be causing a bit more drag

00:15:05in a straight line, but...

00:15:07Yeah, it's certainly not slowing down

00:15:10Right then, at the sharp end of this one,

00:15:12Dunabee and Holt,

00:15:13the two teammates going side-by-side

00:15:14with one another, Holt now hits the front

00:15:16once more here in this race.

00:15:18The winner from yesterday,

00:15:20just to remind you.

00:15:22Meanwhile, across the time,

00:15:23actually, an interesting anomaly here

00:15:24because Marco Holt, as well as

00:15:28Alex Lomas,

00:15:29have set identical lap times,

00:15:30so they're now both

00:15:31joint lap record holders

00:15:32with a 1.47, 8.33.

00:15:34I bet you they couldn't do that again

00:15:35if they tried.

00:15:36Has it ever happened?

00:15:37Can we get some research done

00:15:39on that, guys?

00:15:40has this ever happened before?

00:15:42I remember we had a dead heat race

00:15:44in this championship

00:15:46a good few years ago now,

00:15:47actually, between Johnny Garnes

00:15:50and Carter Brown,

00:15:51if I remember correctly,

00:15:52and they actually ended up

00:15:52both scoring maximum points

00:15:54in that race

00:15:55and sharing the top step

00:15:55of the podium

00:15:56because they were literally

00:15:56separated by 0,000th of a second.

00:15:58It was only the second time,

00:16:00I believe,

00:16:00that happened

00:16:01in a British championship.

00:16:02But in terms of sharing

00:16:03fastest laps,

00:16:03I certainly can't remember

00:16:04an instance where that's occurred.

00:16:07Right then, Ryan Frost

00:16:08having a look to the inside

00:16:09one of his favorite overtaking opportunities

00:16:11into that left-hander

00:16:12in the middle sector.

00:16:13Can't make it stick at the moment,

00:16:14but it's now Dunabee

00:16:15who is back in front

00:16:16at the sharp end of this race.

00:16:18Four times the winner this season

00:16:19is the Scotsman.

00:16:22And we'll see

00:16:23whether he's going to be able

00:16:23to add another

00:33:19You know, he's got a small injury in his shoulder.

00:33:24It just sort of, yeah, got a bit of a pinched nerve

00:33:26or something in there, so he's been working on that

00:33:28and he just said it's, you know, not great for the riding.

00:33:31But the other guys have got to make the most of this opportunity.

00:33:33You know, if Barry's unfit, they've got to try and outscore him

00:33:35because he does a fantastic job at just getting as many points as he can.

00:33:40And with his championship lead, you know, not many races left.

00:33:43They've got to try and take advantage of that.

00:33:45Yep, down in towards the left-hander we go of Debalde's third nine.

00:33:49You see the field already looking pretty spread out

00:33:52in terms of the gap at the sort of sharp end of this one.

00:34:01And you wonder how this one is going to play out.

00:34:02It's so interesting as well how the weather has sort of ebbed and flowed

00:34:07here at Aston this weekend.

00:34:10Now there's bright sunshine at different parts of the circuit.

00:34:15They're up and on their feet and okay.

00:34:21That might be Giovanni Belliossi actually who has gone down the road.

00:35:26And it seems to suit his riding style.

00:35:28So you know I think if you're any of these guys.

00:35:31You want to be at the front.

00:35:33You want to be in control.

00:35:34And you want to take maximum points.

00:35:35And you know that sounds really silly.

00:35:37Because that's what everyone comes racing to do.

00:35:39But sometimes that's not.

00:35:40Your cards ain't on the table like that.

00:35:42You know like Barry Borrell right now.

00:35:43He's coming to win this weekend.

00:35:44But he's not quite fit enough.

00:35:45So he'll take as many points as he can with what he's got.

00:35:48Yeah and it presents the opportunity for other riders to try and capitalize on that misfortune.

00:35:51That's the way that racing goes sometimes.

00:35:52Yeah they have to.

00:35:53I think Nicky Coates has got to win this race.

00:35:55You know he had pace at Owen Park.

00:35:57He had that coming together with Josh Corner where he got wiped out.

00:36:00He's got to win the races.

00:36:01You know he's fast enough.

00:36:02He's shown that a lot of races this year.

00:36:04But hasn't had the luck to go with it.

00:36:05Super impressed with Jack Tynan by the way.

00:36:07A couple of podiums to his name over the last couple of races.

00:36:10He's out here on the inside with a big send on Nicky Coates.

00:36:13He's part of the Rocket Rookie stable.

00:36:15And they've been super impressed with his performances here this weekend.

00:36:18Third place for him yesterday in the heats.

00:36:20Second place for him here in the sprint this morning.

00:36:22And he'd love to go one better to really reward those efforts here this afternoon.

00:36:27Yeah and it's funny Tom.

00:36:28Because sometimes your riding doesn't change much.

00:36:29But you just have a little bit more confidence.

00:36:31He's had that second place this morning.

00:36:33And you can tell when you talk to him.

00:36:34It's just a bit of a confidence.

00:36:35It puts a spring in your step.

00:36:37And then all of a sudden you just ride better.

00:36:39You ride well relaxed.

00:36:39You believe in yourself a little bit more.

00:36:41And then you make it happen.

00:36:42And you know it's a nice thing to see.

00:36:44So I think you know the steps that Jack Tynan has took from the first round to now.

00:36:48He's been progressively getting better and better.

00:36:51And you know that confidence grows.

00:36:53And that's what we're seeing right now.

00:36:54Yeah you've got just Wayne Wright and Christian Smith who are in sixth and seventh place.

00:36:57Just on the tail end of this group.

00:37:00By a small sort of margin or so.

00:37:01You can see them there just sort of lurking in the background.

00:37:03If they start squabbling in front.

00:37:05There could be an opportunity for them to get involved here in the action.

00:37:08Yeah and that's what Barry Burrell does not want.

00:37:11Barry Burrell is going to want to sit at the back of this group.

00:37:13Try and you know bring the bike home for fifth place.

00:37:16That would be a good solid finish for an injured rider.

00:37:18But the worst thing that can happen to him.

00:37:20Is that Christian Smith catches up and brings Josh Wayne right there.

00:37:23And you know they end up with a seventh place battle for this race win.

00:37:27Yeah Christian Smith making that move on Josh Wayne right.

00:37:29But running himself out quite wide there on the exit.

00:37:31Of Devolt just about managed to gather it all up without too much of a drama.

00:37:35But I think he would have lost that position there to Wayne right as a consequence of that.

00:37:40So Nicky Cotin is that's now in front.

00:37:42Change of lead here on lap three.

00:37:45And you wonder what Bobby Verri is going to be thinking in third place.

00:37:48Is he going to be biding his time or is he just going to be going for it.

00:37:50As soon as the opportunity is in his grasp.

00:38:11Fastest lap Nicky Coates on that last lap.

00:38:12But Jack Tynan is really really good at the far end of the circuit.

00:38:17Out of Mandevent on to the you know as we approach that last really fast sector.

00:38:21He gets a really good drive and that's quite a nice position to be in.

00:38:27You know on the last lap.

00:38:27You can get yourself into the lead before the go to the chicane and not leave it to the last

00:38:31lap.

00:38:32Just seeing that Luke Bormans enter the pit lane as well.

00:38:34Looks like a technical problem for the number 45.

00:38:36So a shame for his race to come to an early end.

00:38:39Coates still leading though.

00:38:41Let's see how he's going to play this one at the sharp end of this.

00:38:43He's won two main events this season so far.

00:38:47Once at Donington, once at Brands Hatch.

00:38:50Still on the podium at a main event since Brands Hatch actually for that matter.

00:38:54But a real golden opportunity sort of falling into his hands for Kieran Smith.

00:38:57He needs to try and maximize it in the same way that Nicky Coates is being able to do at

00:39:02the sharp end of this one here.

00:39:03Yeah Barry Burrell needs to get the two guys behind to catch up.

00:39:10You know Nicky Coates needs Barry Burrell to be caught and passed by those two behind.

00:39:15And get some people in between him just for that championship.

00:39:17You know 30 odd points away from the championship lead.

00:39:20It's quite a comfortable gap for Barry to be in.

00:39:22But one DNF, one race win for the opposition and that's it.

00:39:26You're back in a fight you know.

00:39:27You don't want to get to that.

00:39:28Yeah exactly and also just to remind you when we head into round nine next time out at Brands Hatch.

00:39:35We go up from 25 for a win to 35 for a win.

00:39:39As you say Burrell needs to limit the damage here this weekend.

00:39:42But if anything I've got to say he's just losing distance, touching distance here with these top four.

00:39:45As Bobby Vera again goes for that lunge on the inside into that chicane.

00:39:51No and what you do there Tom, you compromise your exit speed along the start of finish straight.

00:39:55And Kieran Smith is not going to need to be invited twice up the inside into turn one.

00:41:35You know, now maybe that sort of tweaked the shoulder a little bit, I don't know, and made it worse.

00:41:40And sometimes you get a physio on it, you know, and it just angers it more and makes it more

00:41:44painful.

00:41:44So it's one of them situations.

00:41:46I should have headed into Groningen. There's good physios around there, aren't there?

00:41:49So anyway, across the timeline we go.

00:41:51Christian Smith, you can see, soaking up the pressure here from Josh Wainwright as they come through into the first

00:41:56corner.

00:41:57That's been a race-long battle that has continued between those two riders, neither giving much of a quarter.

00:42:03About a tenth or so of a second separating them across the timeline.

00:42:06They've got about seven seconds or so to Josh Corner.

00:42:08Corner actually incidentally having done a really good job in this race.

00:42:11Seventeenth he was across the start of this race, beg your pardon, and now up into eighth place.

00:42:16As Nicky Coates has, again, further lowered the lap record here to our 146.457.

00:42:22That's super impressive there from Nicky Coates.

00:42:24He doesn't need to be pushing on with this much aggression at this point in the race.

00:42:28But he's now starting to build that buffer over himself and Bobby Vary, and also to Jack Tynan for that

00:42:34matter as well.

00:42:35Yeah, and third and fourth place, you know, Jack Tynan and Christian Smith, sorry, Kieran Smith there, 46.9, 46

00:42:41.8 in terms of the lap time.

00:42:43So just about four temps, you know, five temps off that last lap.

00:42:48So I don't know if they've quite got the pace that the two leaders have, but we have seen it

00:42:52over this weekend, Tom.

00:42:53You know, the yo-yo factor in terms of sort of coming back and forward in terms of position.

00:43:00So, yeah, let's wait and see if Jack Tynan can put the hammer down and, yeah, see if he can

00:43:06catch the leaders.

00:43:07We are getting into some back markers, so that might help.

00:43:08Yeah, I was just about to say, yeah, the back markers might have a bit of a say in this

00:43:12one.

00:43:12They're coming up on towards the back of, I think that might be Andy Booth, who's just moving out of

00:43:16the way there.

00:43:16Or Gary Cutts, actually, as a matter of fact, indeed it is.

00:43:19Yeah, so Gary Cutts just moving off of, well, I say off of the racing line, sort of off of

00:43:23the racing line there,

00:43:24coming in towards the chicane.

00:43:26And Nigel White there as well, also just moving out of the way.

00:43:32Down the self-ministrate, in towards turn one.

00:43:35Nigel White there, he's on the two-stroke racing, and I just caught up with the two-stroke racing boss

00:43:39because I actually thought it was about, you know, I thought they just loved two-strokes.

00:43:42And he said, no, no, he said, I've suffered two-strokes, and I'm celebrating being alive by having a race

00:43:48team.

00:43:49And I went, mate, mega, so I'll give you a little shout-out.

00:43:51Fair play, I like that.

00:43:52Yeah.

00:43:53That's a good little story going on there, isn't it, for the two-stroke racing team.

00:43:57That was the outfit that Harley Preble used to be a part of, actually, up until this year.

00:44:01Incidentally, Harley Preble, outside of the top ten, he's down in 12th place, is Ivan Knievel himself.

00:44:06He's back in with the likes of Lee Devon-Port and also Dave Grace for the final points of paying

00:44:11positions.

00:44:11You can start to see these bikes now moving away underneath them, starting to move a few more shapes as

00:44:17well.

00:44:18And I tell you what, I'm really impressed with Bobby there in terms of his riding and his race craft,

00:44:22but also his patience out there on the track.

00:44:23He's not been throwing it up the inside at every opportunity.

00:44:26He's been waiting for the right time to pounce, and now looks to be that right time.

00:44:29He can start to see him moving to the inside on a couple of occasions and looking to try and

00:44:34find his way through here on Nicky Coast,

00:44:36but not before he knows that he can make that move stick and also try to not get retaliated back

00:44:41on.

00:44:42No, and I really think that what you've got to watch out for, Tom, into the Gertzimmer chicane.

00:44:46Watch Nicky. Brakes a little bit earlier, but he comes off the brake and carries that entry speed in.

00:44:50He's going to make it very hard for Bobby Verri.

00:44:51He's going to have to really get a good drive in this section here, get himself right alongside him on

00:44:55the braking into the Gertzimmer.

00:44:57But Bobby Verri's been good here on the exit. Look, watch him on the exit here.

00:45:01He's been getting alongside his competitors. Look, but, oh, he's had a go. He's had a go.

00:45:06That's a big send. Can he get it stopped? He just about goes the double. He runs it a bit

00:45:09wide.

00:45:09That's the problem there, and it's going to cost him that drive onto the start-finish straight that we were

00:45:12talking about

00:45:13as Kieran Smith has also gone through on Jack Tynan for third place.

00:45:17Right then, one more lap to go, just over four kilometres here, and Nicky Coast back through at the start

00:45:21of the final lap

00:45:23as he sends it up the inside into Turn 1.

00:45:25I think Bobby Verri has shown his cards a little bit early because now Coates is going to be extra

00:45:31defensive.

00:45:32If you just hang it a little bit wider on the entry to the Gertzimmer chicane there, it just makes

00:45:37it awkward to pass.

00:45:38So, Bobby Verri's going to be thinking, try, I'm going to have another go there, but he might have to

00:45:42have another go somewhere else.

00:45:44Yeah, Nicky Coast here. You get the sense he's going to try and go a bit defensive down this back

00:45:47straight

00:45:48and just force Bobby Verri to go that long way around. The problem is you go into a fast left

00:45:52-hander,

00:45:52which then flicks you, sorry, right-hander, which then flicks you into a left-hander.

00:45:55Ultimately, Verri not quite close enough to mount an attack at the moment.

00:45:58There is the battle for third place with Kieran Smith and Jack Tynan.

00:46:00Burrell still losing pace there behind, so it looks like fifth is the best that he's going to be able

00:46:04to hope for

00:46:05unless anything unfolds in front of him.

00:46:07We come through to that right-hander of Steckenbaum, not usually an overtaking spot,

00:46:11but you can find your way through into the next left-hander of De Volt.

00:46:14Don't think anything's going to change for the race lead.

00:46:16Tynan there having a look for third place. No! Nicky Coast goes down!

00:46:21He loses the front end of the left-hander, and is that a possible championship deciding moment

00:46:28for the Northern Irishman here at Assen on Sunday afternoon?

00:46:33Let's have another look at it. He was leading the race.

00:46:35Verri wasn't up the inside, and he just wipes the front out,

00:46:40sends it straight into the gravel trap, and Nicky Coast out of contention for the race victory,

00:46:45handing it over to Bobby Verri at the crucial juncture in the championship battle here

00:46:51with just one weekend's worth of racing remaining.

00:46:55Through to the Gerds, even a chicane, then comes Bobby Verri.

00:46:57It's going to be a second main event win in a row as he takes top honours here at Assen.

00:47:02Over the line for second place comes Kieran Smith. Tynan takes third position.

00:47:06Burrell comes over the line in a distant fourth place with his shoulder injury there,

00:47:10and Christian Smith will complete the top five just in front of Josh Wainwright.

00:47:16The drama right down to the chequered flag. Josh Corner still battling for seventh place there,

00:47:20and also James Higginson as well as Rhys Coates for eighth and ninth position across the timing line.

00:47:24Further down the order, Harley Preble there with a big send on the outside as well.

00:47:29I think he's just about been able to gather that one up as he's been squabbling for positions with the

00:47:33likes of Dave Grace,

00:47:34and also Liam Beller as well, and also Alex Pearson for that matter,

00:47:39and a fantastic gaggle of riders as they complete the points finishes there with Alex Pearson in P15.

00:47:45And well, for Nicky Coates, what a disappointing end to the race for him.

00:47:50His second DNF in the main event one, and it was a fast old corner into turn nine, isn't it?

00:47:56Yeah, so gutting for Nicky, he'd done all the hard work, you know, he had it wrapped up,

00:48:01he was pushing on, and it didn't look like he'd done a whole lot wrong there, Tom.

00:48:06It wasn't, you know, the front wasn't chattering, it was just, yeah, that was, you know,

00:48:12it just shows they're on the limit all the time anyway, but it just shows that just that little bit

00:48:16too far last lap.

00:48:18Yeah, a bit gutted for him, but in the same breath, you know, that's motorbike racing.

00:48:22As I said, could that be a championship divining moment for Nicky Coates?

00:48:26Well, either way, we see the riders making their way back through in towards Park Ferme.

00:48:32We'll get confirmation of the race results and the championship results for you in a short while.

00:48:36For Bobby Vary, though, he's been on a supreme run of form, his second main event win in a row.

00:48:41He was absolutely unstoppable at Cadwell Park last time out, and ultimately he goes on to take top honours

00:48:50and maximum of 25 points here at the Saal for Dune. He finished in P3 in the sprint earlier on

00:48:56this morning as well.

00:48:58Bit of an anomaly in terms of the F900R Cup and the normal schedule.

00:49:03Half points awarded for that sprint race, which determined most of the grid here for the main event.

00:49:07The top two rows still decided by that lottery as we normally would do.

00:49:13And there is Jack Tynan over the line in P3. He'll be pretty pleased with how things have worked this

00:49:19one out.

00:49:21Jack Tynan with his first podium in a main event, actually, for that matter, just looking at my notes there.

00:49:25So good job for the rider from Reading in Berkshire. Has been on great form so far this weekend.

00:49:30As we see, Bobby Vary making his way into pit lane and towards Park Fermet here in Assen.

00:49:40Well, they're a bit like London buses, aren't they, here, for Bobby Vary.

00:49:43You wait all season for one and two come along all at once.

00:49:53Fair old trek down over towards the ferry at Dover and over here to Assen, but he's made it worth

00:50:05Just to remind you, in terms of the championship battle, he was fourth going into this race, actually, for that

00:50:12matter.

00:50:13Again, so there's the opportunity for him here to...

00:50:17Actually, he will have overtaken Nicky Coates for at least third place in the championship standings, for that matter,

00:50:21because Coates will, of course, have been a non-score after that last lap crash.

00:50:27And there's Jack Tynan, his first podium in a main event for the BMW F900R Cup.

00:50:33Certainly hold his head high.

00:50:38Something of a quieter race from his perspective, but ultimately, right there when it mattered,

00:50:41that final second place in the race worked out super, super nice for him on board that Baytham Racing BMW.

00:54:16And once he got into his stride, he just had a bit more pace, you know, and fantastic.

00:54:26And then he's come out to these European, the fast and flat circuits and just done exactly the same thing.
