00:00:04It's been wet over the last half an hour or so,

00:00:06however, the rain looks to have stopped

00:00:08and the circuit could be drying,

00:00:09which would make tyre choice very interesting indeed.

00:00:12Here are the top two rows of the grid in reverse order.

00:00:15Mason Foster on the outside of the second row of the grid

00:00:18with Alex Lomas on board the Fibre Tech Honda

00:00:20putting in a good time in qualifying yesterday.

00:00:23Alongside him is Luke Fitchett,

00:00:24the man we saw featuring at the sharp end at Thruxton

00:00:26last time out on the outside of the second row of the grid,

00:00:31or front row of the grid, I beg your pardon,

00:00:32is Ryan Frost on board the Fibre Tech Honda,

00:00:34the man who is leading the championship by 35 points,

00:00:36Tyler Humphreys, who's really come on song

00:00:38over the last couple of weekends, joining him for company,

00:00:41but it's Jack Dunabee, the flying Scotsman

00:00:43who lines up at the very head of the field

00:00:45on board the number 63.

00:00:47Always good in wet conditions is Jack Dunabee,

00:00:49so keep an eye out for him here this afternoon.

00:00:53Alongside me, Danny Buckin here to guide you through the action.

00:00:56Danny, it's a drying track,

00:00:57but we're seeing a lot of riders on the front two rows of the grid,

00:01:00starting on the wet tyres.

00:01:01Yeah, I can see a lot of wet fronts there, Tom.

00:01:02I weren't able to see exactly what they had in the rear there,

00:01:05so really interested to see.

00:01:07They've probably all gone for the wets,

00:01:09but around here it dries up quickly.

00:01:10As you can see on the left-hand side there,

00:01:12ah, slick rear, okay.

00:01:14Who is that?

00:01:14That's Mason Foster.

00:01:16Wet front, slick rear, then for Mason Foster.

00:01:18I thought I saw a couple of slick rears,

00:01:20to be honest with you,

00:01:21and I probably would be hedging my bets on the slicks

00:01:24just because it dries so quickly around here.

00:01:26We've got quite a big wind,

00:01:28and, you know, that usually dries the track fairly fast.

00:01:31Yeah, you can visibly see there's not really much

00:01:32in the way of standing water,

00:01:33at least down the start finish straight.

00:01:35A few smattering of rain spots there on the camera lens

00:01:38as the riders make their way off on their warm-up lap

00:01:41around this four-and-a-half-kilometre-long circuit,

00:01:44and round to the start of the grid.

00:01:46Here is how the championship sits then after 13 races,

00:01:49then with a further five to go this season.

00:01:52Ryan Frost leading from Jack Dunabee.

00:01:53Jack Burrows there in a distant third place,

00:01:55so it's really a two-horse race

00:01:56at the sharp end of the field.

00:01:58You've got Marco Holtz and Luke Fitchett

00:02:00who are in the mix in sort of the fringes of the top five,

00:02:03as well as then Mason Foster, Tyler Humphreys,

00:02:05who we said has gone really well

00:02:06over the last couple of weekends,

00:02:07and Harrison Day down there in ninth position.

00:02:10Let's have a look at the grid

00:02:11and see how it lines up for a 14-lap race here at Aston.

00:02:14It's Jack Dunabee on pole position

00:02:15with Tyler Humphreys and Ryan Frost,

00:02:17the championship leader, on the outside of row one.

00:02:20Luke Fitchett heads row two.

00:02:21He's got Alex Lomas and Mason Foster on the outside.

00:02:25Then it's Jack Burrows, Marco Holtz,

00:02:26who was on the podium last time out at Thruxton

00:02:28with the youngster Harrison Day for company on the outside.

00:02:31Then Thorneesh Ravoro with Clayton Edmonds

00:02:33and Hudson Cooper on row four.

00:02:35Luke Walgreeve in row five with Josh Williams

00:02:39and Isaiah Devine alongside.

00:02:40It's George Bowes and Charlie Cunningham

00:02:41and Dan Stephenson on row six.

00:02:43Archie Hooper, Lily Rose, and Max Rose are on row seven.

00:02:46And then Olly O'Gorman, younger brother to Casey,

00:02:48with Henry McCartney on the back of the 31 rider strong field.

00:02:52Henry not able to set the time in qualifying,

00:02:54so he'll be 23rd and last here

00:02:56with all of the riders getting ready to line up.

00:02:59Now, Danny, these riders, of course,

00:03:01have been racing for a good number of years.

00:03:02You can see a few spots of rain there on the camera lens,

00:03:04but for a lot of them here, it's a big step into the unknown.

00:03:07What should they be expecting when the lights go green?

00:03:10I think a big thing, Tom,

00:03:11it's just understanding the conditions,

00:03:13understanding the feelings you're getting from the bike.

00:03:16And, you know, it's very difficult.

00:03:18The only way you learn to ride in these sort of conditions,

00:03:21you know, on wet tyres or, you know,

00:03:23in the wet track with slick tyres is just by experience.

00:03:26And, yeah, it's, uh,

00:03:28that's all you can do, really.

00:03:29Just learn and not rush the feeling of trying to, you know,

00:03:33get that within the first couple of corners

00:03:34because you'll crash.

00:03:35So it's, yeah, very difficult, but very testing times.

00:03:38And these are the sort of moments that, uh,

00:03:41I just can't see the rear tyre.

00:03:42It looks actually like a wet, I can see.

00:03:45It's definitely a wet front.

00:03:46It's like a wet rear.

00:03:47Sorry, I'm looking at the rear there.

00:03:48We've got wet rear there.

00:03:49Yeah, got a wet rear on Ryan Frost's bike there as well.

00:03:55So Mason Foster's the real outlier by the looks of things

00:03:57on that second row on the outside.

00:04:00He's starting in sixth place with that slick rear tyre.

00:04:02Everybody else in front of him on wet.

00:04:04Yeah, Mason Foster's got a slick rear, wet front.

00:04:06He's the one to watch on the outside of the second row.

00:04:08Right then, green flag is waved at the back.

00:04:1014 laps here of action at Aston about to begin.

00:04:13Wait for the red lights to come on.

00:04:15The revs rise, the lights go out,

00:04:16and we go racing for the RMG Moto4.

00:04:19British Cup.

00:04:19Good start from Jack Dunnaby off of pole position.

00:04:22Likewise as well for Tyler Humphreys

00:04:24from the middle of the front row,

00:04:25and Ryan Frost challenging his teammate

00:04:27down into the first corner.

00:04:28Dunnaby with the hole shot.

00:04:29Humphreys holds onto second.

00:04:30Frost slots himself into third place.

00:04:32Fitch is going to get hung out to dry

00:04:33on the outside of turn one

00:04:36as they make their way up through

00:04:37into the next series of corners.

00:04:39He's back through on the inside of Marco Holtz.

00:04:41Different colours on their bikes,

00:04:42but the same team that they ride for,

00:04:44and he's now through into second place there as well.

00:04:47So, losing places, the two Fibre Tech Hondas

00:04:49in the opening stage of this race.

00:04:51Championship leader Ryan Frost

00:04:53is down to about fifth place.

00:04:54Yeah, and Tom, if the track dries up,

00:04:57even on these smaller CC bikes,

00:04:58they will shred the tyre.

00:05:00So, you can't, I don't think they can ride around

00:05:03and try and, you know, conserve tyre,

00:05:06but they're going to need a sprinkling of rain,

00:05:08otherwise they're all going to be fighting

00:05:09at the back for grip on those wet tyres.

00:05:12Yeah, the wet tyres,

00:05:13they're great at clearing standing water,

00:05:14but when there is no standing water to clear,

00:05:17they will overheat very quickly.

00:05:18And the problem you've got

00:05:19is even if it ends up later on in the race being rain,

00:05:22if it's drying now,

00:05:24they're going to be overheating those tyres.

00:05:25And by the time it does rain,

00:05:26you're going to be, well,

00:05:27up a creek without a paddle, so to speak.

00:05:29You see a bit of tape coming off of one of the riders there,

00:05:31just lifting it off of the radiators.

00:05:33I wonder if that was tape,

00:05:34or was it something of a bit of bodywork maybe?

00:05:35Anyway, either way at the front,

00:05:37now Jack Dudley relinquishes the race lead

00:05:38as Fitchett goes through,

00:05:40as well as his teammate Marco Holtz.

00:05:41See the front end chattering away there for Fitchett,

00:05:44as he tries to get the bike turned into the right-hander

00:05:46and heading down the back straight.

00:05:48I don't know if he had a little issue there with the front end.

00:05:51I don't know if that was just a soft front tyre.

00:05:52I don't know if he's got a slick rear in.

00:05:53I'm not quite sure what Fitchett's running,

00:05:55but if we are seeing that,

00:05:57that is what it looks like to have a soft front tyre in

00:06:00and a slick rear tyre.

00:06:01Just, you know, the grip of the rear tyre

00:06:04is just pushing the front.

00:06:05Right, through into the hair temperature cane

00:06:07we go for the first time.

00:06:08It's Marco Holtz then that leads the way.

00:06:10A little bit deep he is through there,

00:06:11but gathers it all up pretty okay.

00:06:13At the end of lap one,

00:06:14he's come through from the third row of the grid,

00:06:17from eighth position for Marco Holtz

00:06:19to lead the race from his teammate Luke Fitchett.

00:06:21There you've got a move being made on the inside.

00:06:22That's Clayton Edmonds on Jack Burrows for fourth position.

00:06:27So Ryan Frost, the championship leader,

00:06:29who started in third place on the front row.

00:06:32Likewise, his teammate Tyler Humphreys.

00:06:33They've both dropped down five places on this opening lap,

00:06:36but they're being challenged here by their teammate,

00:06:38Thorley Travoro, who's coming through as well.

00:06:40Travoro was 10th on the grid

00:06:42and is now up against his two Fibertech Honda compatriots here.

00:06:47Yeah, Tom, I can't tell you how horrible it feels

00:06:49to be on a dry track with wet tyres.

00:06:51It feels like you're losing the front everywhere,

00:06:53but you have to understand that's the carcass

00:06:54and the feeling of the tyre.

00:06:56It's a really difficult thing to try and tell your brain,

00:06:59but some of these riders will be just out there

00:07:01sending it and just, you know, learning.

00:07:03Frost obviously lead the championship.

00:07:05He's a little bit more conservative, let's say.

00:07:08Yeah, points are the main aim of the game here

00:07:10for Ryan Frost,

00:07:10especially considering there are three races on the bill

00:07:13at Donington Park,

00:07:14to remind you, in a few weeks' time as well.

00:07:16So it's a case of being consistent here for Ryan Frost,

00:07:19but down in ninth place is not where

00:07:20he'll have wanted to be at all at this stage.

00:07:24Holtman's still leading then from Luke Fitchett.

00:07:27You've got Jack Danaby,

00:07:28who's still in the mix there in third position,

00:07:29but no question about it here, Danny.

00:07:31I mean, it doesn't look like it's raining.

00:07:32I can't see any rain flags from our commentary position

00:07:34that are being hung out over the start-finish straight.

00:07:37And, you know, by the looks of things,

00:07:39it is certainly a drying track.

00:07:41And you've got, we believe,

00:07:43a smattering of riders actually,

00:07:44who are the likes of Fitchett,

00:07:47Holt Burrows and Foster,

00:07:48who are all on dry tyres.

00:07:52So, yeah, that's going to make things interesting here

00:07:54because if you're looking at the likes of Ryan Frost, etc.,

00:07:56they're all on the wet tyres,

00:07:57and that explains the big gap

00:07:58and the huge gulf we can see then

00:08:00between the top five of the rest of the field.

00:08:02Yeah, it does look like Michael Holt's got a wet front in.

00:08:04I don't know, I can't see that.

00:08:07There's a couple of places on the circuit,

00:08:08I was looking at his front tyre,

00:08:09and it looked like you can see the lines

00:08:11through the middle of Dunabee's as well there.

00:08:13Yeah, Clayton Edmund's definitely got a front,

00:08:15yeah, front wet tyre there,

00:08:18but, yeah, possibly dry rear tyres, we're thinking.

00:08:19So a bit of a mixture in terms of compounds,

00:08:21which is what you're able to run here in Moto4 as well,

00:08:24and indeed in any class in the British Paddock as well.

00:08:26You can split the tyres if you want to decide

00:08:28to run an intermediate front or a wet rear.

00:08:30We saw something similar in Sportbike last time out

00:08:32at Cadwell Park

00:08:33when there was a smattering of rain.

00:08:35Clayton Edmund's there through on the inside,

00:08:36meanwhile, of Jack Dunabee for third place.

00:08:42It's just understanding the fact

00:08:44that you need to push to front,

00:08:45but you can't push too hard

00:08:47because the rear is screaming for...

00:08:50The rear tyre's obviously got loads of grip

00:08:52and he's screaming at you to get on the gas,

00:08:54but the front is saying no more.

00:08:56So there is a fine line of riding

00:08:58with a wet front tyre and a slick rear.

00:09:00Yeah, this is great for Marco Holtz.

00:09:02It's really exciting to see him doing so well.

00:09:04He's one of the youngest riders on the field,

00:09:06known as Holt the Bolt,

00:09:07youngest Moto5 winner at the age of 10 years old.

00:09:10He's been competing in various different championships

00:09:13in Spain over the years as well.

00:09:14He's taken one win so far this season.

00:09:16That was back at Brandtach in the summer,

00:09:18and he'd love to add another one

00:09:20to his checkbook here,

00:09:22and he's doing a good job of that,

00:09:23leading the way with a second's advantage

00:09:24over his teammate, Luke Fitchett,

00:09:27also with that dry rear tyre.

00:09:29So these riders doing great

00:09:31on board the bikes with the dry rear tyres

00:09:34at the moment for the likes of the rest of the field.

00:09:37You've got Ryan Frost,

00:09:38he's now down into ninth place.

00:09:39And I was talking to Nathan Smith,

00:09:41actually, he's part of the Fivertech

00:09:42Honda the Drib Racing outfit.

00:09:43He's involved in various different teams

00:09:45and so on within the Michael Laverty stage.

00:09:48of the stable, as it were.

00:09:50But he was so impressed with Ryan Frost's maturity.

00:09:52So he's 17 years of age now.

00:09:53The plan, in theory, would be for him

00:09:55to go up to the Moto3 Junior World Championship

00:09:57as part of our stable there.

00:09:59But he was really praising how far he's come along

00:10:02as not only a rider, but as a person this season.

00:10:05Yeah, and I think that's exactly what, you know,

00:10:07being in that stable of riders is for

00:10:09and what this class is all about.

00:10:11It doesn't just teach you how to ride a bike fast

00:10:13and open the right doors.

00:10:14You know, it's dealing with the pressure,

00:10:16it's managing the situation at hand.

00:10:18This weekend here, you know,

00:10:19like they're out in tricky conditions.

00:10:22They're all having to make tyre choice calls

00:10:23because ultimately you're the rider on the bike as well.

00:10:26So your team manager could tell you

00:10:27to put whatever tyre combination you want in.

00:10:29You have to be riding that bike.

00:10:31You have to be confident in that.

00:10:33And, yeah, but I think we've seen a massive

00:10:36improvement in Ryan Frost.

00:10:38You know, from last year to this year,

00:10:39he's obviously very clever.

00:10:40He learned from what mistakes he made last year

00:10:43and he's come out this year

00:10:44and he's doing a fantastic job.

00:10:46Yeah, four wins in a row so far

00:10:48for Ryan Frost in the RNG Moto4 British Cup.

00:10:50Looks unlikely he's going to be able to add

00:10:52to his account here this afternoon,

00:10:54but you never know how things may unfold

00:10:57in front of him,

00:10:57but he's a fair way off with the rest of the field.

00:10:59He's down about 20 or so seconds

00:11:00off of the leaders at this stage of the race.

00:11:04Yeah, Luke Fitchett there in second place as well

00:11:06with his dad, Duncan Fitchett.

00:11:10Very experienced guy

00:11:12and always did well at choosing tyres.

00:11:16Our friend in the commentary box,

00:11:17James Whittam, has just told us.

00:11:19Well, that's always good to know

00:11:20and he seems like he's done a decent job as well.

00:11:21Very good job.

00:11:22Fastest man last time around

00:11:23by a couple of cents of a second

00:11:25was Luke Fitchett.

00:11:26Really good to see for the rookie in Moto4.

00:11:29if it didn't go well.

00:11:51So Jack Burrows keeping the

00:11:54fast Mason Foster from behind.

00:11:56We wonder whether he might be able

00:11:57to spring a few surprises

00:11:58in this one with that slick rear tyre.

00:12:00But it looks like similar strategies

00:12:02for the other riders in front of him

00:12:03and they've been able to

00:12:04really maximise it

00:12:05in the first few laps of it.

00:12:07Holt has responded, meanwhile,

00:12:08to Luke Fitchett's charge as well.

00:12:10The gap was under a second

00:12:11last time around.

00:12:12It's now increased up to about 1.3

00:12:14between them,

00:12:15a 1.50.701 for Marco Holt last time,

00:12:18a 1.51.215.

00:12:19It's a half a second or so

00:12:20that this man here on board

00:12:22the red number 37,

00:12:23the RS Racing Team,

00:12:25was able to take out

00:12:26over Luke Fitchett.

00:12:28Well, that's a fairly impressive margin

00:12:48mixed conditions

00:12:49and he's having a good old

00:12:50with his young teammate

00:13:07and that just goes to show,

00:13:08these tyres will be rooted

00:13:13moving beneath them.

00:13:20just how much smaller he is

00:13:21in terms of stature

00:13:22on board the bike

00:13:22compared to Tyler Humphreys.

00:13:24He's almost pint-sized,

00:13:26isn't he, Thorley?

00:13:27And, well,

00:13:27he's doing a good job

00:13:28of making that bike

00:13:30work in all of the

00:13:31different shapes

00:13:31that it's cutting him out

00:13:32in on the racetrack.

00:13:33They're a fair way up

00:13:34or a fair way off

00:13:35the rest of the field.

00:13:36They're like to have

00:13:36Jack Dunabee, et cetera,

00:13:37about 20 or so seconds

00:13:38up the road.

00:13:40Their bikes look like

00:13:41they're sideways

00:13:41but it's just the tyre

00:13:43moving.

00:13:43It's like riding

00:13:44on chewing gum.

00:13:45Absolutely feels

00:13:47horrible

00:13:48and once you get used to that,

00:13:50even these guys

00:13:50here at the front,

00:13:51you know,

00:13:51they've got the slick rears in,

00:13:52they've got the wet front,

00:13:53you can see the cuts

00:13:53in the front there

00:13:56and it will feel awful.

00:13:57When they're turning

00:13:58into the corners now,

00:13:59they'll get the maximum

00:14:00pressure through the front

00:14:01and it will just feel

00:14:02like the front

00:14:02is to wash away from you.

00:14:04And the rear just is fine

00:14:06and the rear is,

00:14:06you know,

00:14:06you've got grip,

00:14:07you've got that firmness

00:14:08and stability through the rear

00:14:09but the front just feels

00:14:10like a chewing gum.

00:14:11It's a cracking scrap here

00:14:12between Mason Foster

00:14:13and Jack Burrows

00:14:14for this final podium place,

00:14:16actually.

00:14:16I'm really enjoying

00:14:17watching this

00:14:18with these two

00:14:18out on track

00:14:20and, you know,

00:14:20really good to see Jack Burrows

00:14:21fighting for another podium

00:14:22this season.

00:14:23He had a really great start

00:14:24to 2026

00:14:25with three podiums

00:14:26including that win,

00:14:27of course,

00:14:27at Alton Park

00:14:28in the first race

00:14:28of the season.

00:14:29Then after we ended up

00:14:30going to Tnestin,

00:14:31he had a couple of podiums

00:14:32at Brands Hatch

00:14:33and, you know,

00:14:33since Silverstone

00:14:34he's not been on the podium

00:14:35but it'd be really good

00:14:37to see him fighting there

00:14:38with Mason Foster

00:14:39who, incidentally,

00:14:41has had one podium finish

00:14:42to his name,

00:14:42the rider from Norfolk.

00:14:43He was the first ever

00:14:45British Moto4 winner

00:14:47over in Spain

00:14:49in the Spanish

00:14:50Superbike Championship.

00:14:51Finished sixth

00:14:51in this championship

00:14:52last year

00:14:53with the best finish

00:14:53of P2.

00:14:55P3 on the cards

00:14:56here this afternoon

00:14:56by the looks of things

00:14:57and we'll see

00:14:58whether he's able

00:14:59to do anything

00:15:01about Jack Burrows

00:15:02in the second third

00:15:04of this race

00:15:04at the moment.

00:15:05Yeah, I like, you know,

00:15:06Jack Burrows has had

00:15:07a massive step up

00:15:08from last season.

00:15:09He's riding the wheels

00:15:10off that motorbike

00:15:10and he's a lot bigger

00:15:12than everyone else.

00:15:13You know, he's a lot

00:15:13taller, a lot heavier

00:15:14he'll be

00:15:15and I just don't think

00:15:17Thruxton was his track

00:15:18and, you know,

00:15:19he's doing a fantastic

00:15:20job here.

00:15:21He's in third place

00:15:21at the minute

00:15:22obviously battling

00:15:22with Mason Foster

00:15:24and, yeah,

00:15:25seems to be, you know,

00:15:26doing a really good job.

00:15:28Yeah, making their way

00:15:29through the Chircimus

00:15:29chicane.

00:15:30These two riders

00:15:31then on the battle

00:15:31for the podium.

00:15:56in terms of the

00:15:56characteristics out there

00:15:57on board the racetrack.

00:16:13You know, the tyre

00:16:14itself, as I said
