00:00I have the chills here.
00:02This is my favorite thing that happened over the two games
00:06the Yankees beat the Boston Red Sox.
00:08I mean, there were so many great moments.
00:10But what happened next, if you're a Yankee fan,
00:14this doesn't happen.
00:16Trent Grisham bunt.
00:18A bunt!
00:19The most beautiful bunt you're ever going to see!
00:22That's baseball season!
00:31That was very satisfying to play that well in these two games.
00:37And that's what it was.
00:38They played great.
00:39Being able to celebrate with your teammates
00:41after a playoff series win is, you know, it doesn't get old.
00:47This is what we start practicing in February for.
00:54This is where we want to be.
00:55So just about playing our game, having fun,
00:58and hopefully we got a couple more of these.
01:01Baseball can be a wacky sport.
01:03See something new every day.
01:05So just got to keep on going out, playing.
01:08Great series, but we got a lot more to do.
01:10My New York Yankees, your New York Yankees,
01:13our New York Yankees.
01:16Yankees absolutely annihilated the Boston Red Sox
01:19again last night in the Bronx.
01:21Bag it, Boston.
01:23Sox go home, dominant fashion, in terms of the wins
01:26by my Yankees in a two-game wildcard sweep, as predicted.
01:31And Aaron Boone said it so brilliantly and perfectly to start the show.
01:35That's what it's all about.
01:37The way the Yankees played on the field, sheer domination.
01:42The pitching was superb.
01:44The timely hitting was unbelievable.
01:47The little ball, the power, the ability to pounce on the opposition's mistakes.
01:53Everything about the way the Yankees played against the Boston Red Sox.
01:57The last two days, and I'll speak from a fan perspective, the most fun I've had.
02:02Consecutive days as a Yankee fan in a long, long time.
02:06That is winning playoff baseball.
02:09And beating your blood rival like that, beating the hell out of the Boston Red Sox
02:13in the playoffs, eliminating them, it's unbelievable.
02:17Absolutely incredible.
02:19You take a look at what the Yankees were able to do on offense in this series,
02:25absolutely off the charts.
02:27The nuggets of domination really need to be expressed here.
02:32And you compare and contrasted the juxtaposition with how awful the Boston Red Sox were at the
02:39dish.
02:39The New York Yankees hit .450 with runners in scoring position.
02:44They hit .382 in this series.
02:46The Yankees, during the course of the regular season, 30 teams in baseball, they were 19th
02:53hitting with runners in scoring position.
02:55There was no way, and I thought the Yankees would win this series in two.
02:58That was the prediction here on Shine Time.
03:00No universe that I think the Yankees were going to hit .450 with runners in scoring position,
03:05especially with the Red Sox starting pitching and without Aaron Judge, which underscores Boone's
03:12point about just how awesome and enjoyable this was.
03:16And again, you see the Red Sox batting average, Yankees pitching, the starting pitching, Cam
03:22Schlittler on Tuesday, the ultimate bulldog with Max Fried last night.
03:28Just unbelievable.
03:29You look at the numbers for Fried, six innings pitch, six strikeouts, three hits, one walk,
03:35gave up the one home run, and it didn't even matter.
03:38I mean, Wilson Contreras taking his sweet-ass time around the bases, begging Contreras.
03:44I mean, take your sweet-ass time sleeping in the month of October.
03:47This was terrific.
03:49I mean, and if you watch the game, and I know that you did, it's not like Fried had Schlittler
03:54kind of stuff.
03:55He just absolutely worked it so brilliantly.
03:59The Yankees, I mean, Sweet Lou, Garcia getting the party started, that was absolutely incredible.
04:05And then the ability for the Yankees to bash Boston and capitalize on mistakes.
04:11I mean, the entire thing was just incredible.
04:15The Yankee offense was amazing.
04:17And my personal favorite in terms of what transpired last night, that sixth inning was
04:24so great for my sports soul.
04:26If you love baseball, if you love the Yankees, that was everything.
04:31Start at the beginning here, right?
04:33Spencer Jones at the dish.
04:34And Garrett Crochet is in, and he hasn't pitched since April.
04:38And Jones strikes out.
04:40And you had Rushman in no rush, man, to get the ball on a strikeout.
04:47And then Contreras was late getting to first.
04:50And Jones, with his speed, is able to get to first on a strikeout,
04:55which is tremendous.
04:57Then he steals second base, advances to third on an errant throw by Rushman.
05:01And then, bam!
05:02Lombard Jr. singles him to center.
05:05The kids are all right.
05:07And if you're a Yankee fan and you've heard the names Spencer Jones and Lombard Jr. for years,
05:13this is a fever dream, man.
05:15This is what you've been excited for, what you've been waiting for.
05:18Some youth, some speed, some punch, some pop, some sizzle.
05:25The Yankees going to the next level.
05:27Not just station to station, wait for a homer, swing and a miss.
05:31This is fun!
05:33This is how baseball is supposed to be played.
05:36So then, after Lombard is able to do his thing, jazz has the single.
05:42Jazz hands, baby.
05:43Love Aaron Boone's lineup last night.
05:45I hated game one, love game two.
05:48And honestly, what happened next, I have the chills here.
05:53This is my favorite thing that happened over two games the Yankees beat the Boston Red Sox.
05:59I mean, there were so many great moments.
06:01But what happened next, if you're a Yankee fan, this doesn't happen.
06:07Trent Grisham, bunt.
06:09A bunt!
06:11The most beautiful bunt you're ever going to see!
06:13That's baseball season!
06:15That's amazing!
06:17I love a bunt!
06:18The Yankees don't bunt!
06:19The Yankees don't run!
06:21The Yankees don't do any of that!
06:23That was gorgeous!
06:25That was a Picasso!
06:26That was a thing of beauty!
06:29That was my...
06:30Yeah, we shouldn't have to choose favorites!
06:31That was my favorite moment of the baseball game!
06:34Trent Grisham, single on a bunt to Chase Crochet!
06:41Oh, I mean, that was gorgeous!
06:44I could faint!
06:45That was a...
06:46That was a man...
06:47I mean, Trent Grisham decided earlier in the game he was going to just be lackadaisical
06:50in the outfield.
06:51I'm not even going to mention that because I'm in too good of a mood.
06:52Trent Grisham lays down a masterpiece!
06:56That was it!
06:57That's baseball!
06:58Oh, Yankees haven't done that in years!
07:01And then...
07:01Austin Wells!
07:04Sacrificed fly!
07:05And then my neighbor, Ryan McMahon!
07:09Productive ground out to score a run!
07:11And then that dope, that buffoon, that moron!
07:17Chad Tracy!
07:18Are you kidding me?
07:20The ability at the end of the day, I mean, as insane as it gets,
07:25to walk Ben Rice, and Ben Rice is great,
07:29but why would you put Bellinger up in a spot like that?
07:33The thing about Bellinger, and I've always said this, right,
07:35which is why I love when Cashman acquired him from the Cubs in the first place,
07:38why I begged Cashman to re-sign him in the offseason,
07:42why I went nuts on Shine Time, just how much I love him,
07:45what he did in the All-Star game.
07:46He's a big-time, big-market performer.
07:50Dodgers, Cubs, Yankees.
07:53You know, obviously his dad, who was with the Yankees,
07:56winning championships in the late 90s.
07:58Clay is a utility player.
07:59He threw out the first pitch last night.
08:02Jason Bonetti told that story incredibly well,
08:04and we did throughout the course of the NBC broadcast.
08:07So, the minute you see an intentional walk to Rice,
08:11what the hell did you think was going to happen?
08:14Bam! A belly bomb!
08:16Deep into the night, and did you, look at this.
08:19Look at the picture right there.
08:20The smile on his face.
08:23I mean, the bomb was incredible.
08:25I'm going nuts watching it.
08:27I just love that our team, of all the pictures,
08:31it's not him in the batter's box, it's this.
08:34Because that was, for Bellinger and his family,
08:37and for all the Yankees fans,
08:39that was the snapshot of happiness.
08:42That was the moment where you're saying to yourself,
08:45yes, this is us.
08:47This is Yankee baseball.
08:49This is Yankee family with the Bellingers.
08:52That moment, and his smile as he got the home plate,
08:56the way he went into the dugout,
08:59the high fives with Boone and all his teammates,
09:02that was absolutely terrific, man.
09:05That was so great for your sports soul if you're a Yankees fan.
09:08Yankees fans haven't seen this in a minute.
09:12And I thought the Yankees would beat Boston, right?
09:14But now, after seeing that, I'm convinced we're going to beat Tampa.
09:18Because that is exactly how baseball is supposed to be played.
09:23Little confidence, little juice, little energy,
09:26little ball speed, pouncing on the opposition's mistakes.
09:30And listen, I say opposition's mistakes and pouncing.
09:35I call Chad Tracy the new Grady Little on Shine Time yesterday.
09:40He lives up to the name again in Game 2,
09:43much to the dismay of his starter, Sonny Gray.
09:47I think I'm the best pitcher in the American League
09:50going through the order the third time.
09:53I think that's a fact.
09:57Yeah, I mean, I would have liked to live or die with me in that moment,
10:02but that's the competitor I am.
10:04And, yeah, I think you can probably ask the guys,
10:08and they felt the same way.
10:11Listen, Sonny Gray is right.
10:14And here's the thing.
10:15You can argue when it's all said and done
10:17if he should have said it out loud.
10:19Sonny Gray was fabulous last night.
10:21He was sensational,
10:22considering that Sonny Gray has been an all-star everywhere,
10:26except when he was a Yankee, when he was absolutely terrible.
10:28And then he signs with Boston, goes to Boston this offseason,
10:32and he says, I never wanted to be a Yankee, hated New York,
10:34hated my time there.
10:36So he's already, and the Yankees fans already hated him
10:39because he was terrible in New York.
10:41Now they hate him even more.
10:43Sonny Gray lives up.
10:44I mean, he was terrific last night,
10:46gave up that home run to Garcia.
10:48But in the fifth, he has a couple runners on.
10:51Sonny Gray is right in terms of the fact
10:54that he absolutely positively should have stayed in that game.
10:57And he is one of the three best pitchers this regular season
11:00in the American League.
11:01I would go Schlittler and Sonny Gray and Cease.
11:04You could debate two and three.
11:05Cam is certainly number one.
11:07But, you know, the fact that he is literally the best
11:09in the American League when it comes to the batting average against,
11:12when you look at the third time in the order,
11:14not to mention he was dealing.
11:18Not to mention the fact that Chad Tracy did the exact same thing
11:23with the same damn relief pitcher the day before.
11:26Like, you don't have to find some kind of example from yesteryear.
11:30You just have to go back 24 hours.
11:34Like, I hate the Red Sox.
11:36I feel for the Red Sox fans.
11:38Like, can you imagine watching that game as a Red Sox fan?
11:41I mean, I'm starting to shake thinking of myself as a Red Sox fan.
11:44But can you imagine you're watching deja vu all over again?
11:48You saw the exact same thing 24 hours ago.
11:52Eric Miller, you traded one of your best prospects for him.
11:56He had a terrible September.
11:58And Chad Tracy screwed it up with Tolley.
12:01Next day, he screws it up again.
12:03I just...
12:05And they give the Yankees credit.
12:07They pounced.
12:07But you knew it was going to be the case.
12:09The fact that he pulled him with a couple runners on in the fifth made absolutely no sense.
12:16He gave up the one run leading up to it, the Garcia-Homer.
12:18And what did you think was going to happen?
12:20Of course, Bailey was going to come through.
12:22I mean, it made absolutely no sense.
12:25They ripped it into right.
12:262-0 game.
12:27And that was it.
12:28Then Tracy putting Crochet in.
12:31That was absurd.
12:32And then Tracy, as we mentioned before, you know, walking Ben Rice to pitch to Bellinger.
12:38Chad Tracy has no feel.
12:39I am in no universe going to rip Sonny Gray for what he said.
12:43Because Sonny Gray is absolutely right.
12:45And again, the Grady Little reference, going back to Pedro, what happened in 2003.
12:50Everybody understands the deal, right?
12:52You can't go full Grady Little.
12:55If you're getting compared to Grady Little, it's unacceptable.
12:58And I think if you're a Red Sox fan, let's be honest here.
13:01It's been in the weirdest year in the history of your fandom, right?
13:04Team was the biggest embarrassment in baseball first two months of the season.
13:08Then you look like a World Series contender.
13:10Then, in August and September, as mediocre as it gets, which is probably where you should
13:16have been all season long, right?
13:19So you limp into the playoffs.
13:22Roman Anthony gets hurt.
13:23By the way, he talked to the press yesterday and threw out surgery as a possibility.
13:29Wait, what?
13:29Your blood rivals beat the hell out of you, and your manager has no idea what the hell
13:35he's doing.
13:35The Boston media was all over Chad Tracy after the game.
13:40He had no answers.
13:42What a disaster.
13:44What a complete and utter disaster.
13:46And this is inspiring for the Yankees.
13:50Now, the Rays never beat themselves.
13:52The Rays are a buttoned-up team.
13:54Kevin Cash is a tremendous, terrific manager.
13:58But when you look at how the Yankees just have this awesome ability to pounce, that's
14:05what inspires me.
14:06So when I look at the Yankees, and I look at the Yankees and the Rays, I honestly believe
14:12that when it's all said and done, we are talking about the Yankees being able to go to Tampa
14:17and beat the Rays.
14:18And you don't have to wait for Friday's shine time for the prediction.
14:21The Yankees are going to take this series.
14:24The Yankees will beat Tampa in five games.
14:26I respect the hell out of Tampa Bay.
14:28I think the Rays are an excellent team.
14:30Their starting pitching is really good.
14:32Yankees is better.
14:32The Rays, their offense, their speed.
14:36Cameron Arrow's unbelievable.
14:38Solid bullpen.
14:39They play really strong defense.
14:41But the way the Yankees played against Boston, that's everything.
14:46I would start Garrett Cole game one, not even thinking twice about it.
14:49I would start Cam Schlittler in game number two, not thinking twice about it.
14:52Don't want him on any extra rest.
14:54I know how great Rodon was last time he pitched against Tampa.
14:58We'll worry about Rodon when we get back to Yankee Stadium.
15:02Yankees will be able to take this series.
15:04That ballpark is a dump.
15:06No home field advantage.
15:08The Yankees, literally, they're minorly complex.
15:11Their facility is in Tampa.
15:13There are more Yankees fans than Rays fans in Tampa.
15:16They will flood that ballpark.
15:18They will fill it.
15:19I mean, I can't wait until they get another ballpark.
15:21I mean, the fact you're going to have playoff baseball in that dump that is the tromp,
15:25that's an embarrassment.
15:26That thing should be blown up to smithereens.
15:29But I'm taking the Yankees in five.
15:31I respect the hell out of the Tampa Rays.
15:33I think they are a terrific, tremendous baseball team.
15:35They have been the best team in the American League all season long.
15:42Yankees play like they've played the last couple of nights they win this series.
15:46And there's this pretty awesome confidence.
15:49And let's also, for the sake of fairness, and I'm usually right on this, right, when I criticize him.
15:55Let's say this, Aaron Boone managed his ass off.
15:59I think Aaron Boone deserves a lot of credit.
16:02And I have been a massive, major Aaron Boone critic, and I've been correct on that.
16:07I didn't like his lineup in game one.
16:08It worked.
16:09I loved his lineup in game two.
16:11It worked.
16:12The way he handled the rotation, the way he handled Schlittler, the way he handled Freed,
16:16knowing when to hold him, when to fold him, having Cam go back out for the seventh inning
16:21on game number one, the way he handled the lineup with the lefties going up against Sonny Gray.
16:28Loved the whole thing.
16:30Absolutely loved it.
16:31The little ball, let's give Boone credit.
16:34Other than Rojas with that send and waving him around, which I don't know what the hell
16:40was going on with that.
16:41And how Luis Rojas is still coaching third for the Yankees?
16:44I mean, the hell's going on here?
16:46I mean, can we get somebody else to coach third base before the Tampa series?
16:51I mean, my goodness, what the hell was that?
16:54But other than that, this was a perfect couple of days.
16:58Nothing like playoff baseball in the Bronx, and honestly.
17:01And there's more to come.
17:04Bigger fish to fry.
17:05Yankees lose to Tampa.
17:06This is not a successful season.
17:08Yankees don't make the World Series.
17:10It's not a successful season.
17:11I'm not even worried about Aaron Judge for the next round, okay?
17:15But beating Boston, eliminating Boston in the playoffs, there's just something different
17:22on the New York streets today.
17:24There's just something different in the air.
17:26I slept like a baby.
17:28I'm feeling great.
17:30Life is unbelievable.
17:32There's nothing better than beating the Boston Red Sox.
17:36Meanwhile, in Atlanta, the Phillies came back in dramatic fashion before winning a game
17:41in the 10th inning to force a game three tonight.
17:44Bryce Harper's missed play in right field to Philadelphia in a hole.
17:48His homer an inning later put the Phillies in position for a comeback win.
17:51That extended the postseason.
17:53Here's what he had to say after.
17:55How were you actually able to flush it and then go into the next at-bat?
18:00I'll tell you what I was thinking about crew, my son.
18:03You know, what I would say to him in that situation.
18:06You know, I think it's a learning situation, not for myself, but everybody else as well.
18:09You know, right?
18:10I think you try to flush it as quick as possible.
18:13And I grew up playing a lot of big games.
18:17I mean, I've said it in the past about the postseason, but playing huge games that people
18:24are counting on you from the time you were 10 years old all the way until now.
18:29I don't think people understand what that feels like or looks like because when you guys
18:34were 10 years old, you probably weren't playing in front of 3,000 people, you know, yelling
18:38and screaming at you, wondering why you're not the player you want to be or anything else.
18:44So, I've been through a lot of situations to get me to this point.
18:49And, you know, you make a play like that and I'm hearing it out there, obviously.
18:54But, how quickly can I turn the page and just get past that moment knowing that I'm still
19:02coming up to the plate?
19:04That is one of my favorite sound bites after sporting events, big-time sporting events
19:09I've ever heard.
19:10Because Bryce Harper was about to be the GOAT, not in the good way, as the kids like to
19:15say now, the GOAT in terms of the reason why Philly would be going home.
19:20And, listen, I always give Bryce Harper credit.
19:23Not every star does this.
19:24You know, he changed positions, middle of the season, go to the ball club, they trade for
19:28Luis Arise.
19:30Arise is injured.
19:31And then problems arise for Harper in the outfield.
19:33He should have easily caught that ball.
19:35But, my goodness, and to hear him talk about, remember, he's on the cover of Sports Illustrated.
19:40You know, he's playing in Vegas growing up.
19:43He was, if you don't know, in high school, the LeBron James of baseball.
19:48I mean, he was, you know, the cover boy.
19:51He was the prodigy.
19:53And then, obviously, you know, he has lived up to it as an MVP, as a phenomenal player.
19:59You know, there was a period of time when he was in Washington where it was Mike Trout,
20:03Bryce Harper, in terms of best two players in baseball.
20:05Let's be clear about that.
20:06He's unbelievable, one of my favorite players.
20:08Makes that error.
20:09Thinking about his kid.
20:11Thinking about what he's going to say to him.
20:12The fans are killing him.
20:14Braves fans are laughing at him.
20:15Philly's fans are killing him.
20:16And then, bam!
20:17You see, Schwarber and Harper hit home runs.
20:20That's Philadelphia Philly's baseball.
20:21By the way, when I say Philly's baseball, they can't catch a Colt.
20:24Their defense has been deplorable all year.
20:27Heck, for the last few years.
20:29But the way that they win games with their bats, the approach of the play,
20:32I can watch Schwarber hit all day.
20:35His swing, his approach at the plate, all of it.
20:38It's just beautiful.
20:39It's majestic.
20:40Schwarber, bomb.
20:41Harper, bomb.
20:42Ball game.
20:43And then, boom!
20:43With a bomb.
20:44In extras.
20:46Unbelievable.
20:47And how about the drama at the end?
20:49Can we officially call that a walk-off challenge?
20:54Walk-off ABS?
20:55Real Muto with the challenge.
20:57Then, bam!
20:58Ball game over.
20:59Listen, this series has been a banger.
21:03Ebb and flow, right?
21:05You thought the game was over and Philly was going to win game one.
21:08Thought the game was over and Atlanta was going to win game two.
21:11Game three, it's a pretty awesome dose of who the hell knows.
21:16Now, I don't have a fiery take on who Don Mattingly should start tonight,
21:23as long as it goes Nola, Wheeler, in some order.
21:28That's what matters to me, okay?
21:31And I think that's what we'll get.
21:33You know, Wheeler, obviously, fantastic.
21:35He had to pitch on Sunday because they needed to win that game to make the playoffs,
21:38which is why taking care of business down the stretch of the season
21:40means everything for these teams.
21:42I give the Braves home field, better team, slight edge.
21:50They also have to get off the mat.
21:52I mean, that was, they were about to advance, going to play the L.A. Dodgers.
21:57That was a disaster class for the Atlanta Braves,
22:00just like the day before was a total mess for the Philadelphia Phillies.
22:05Listen, I'm rooting for Philly.
22:07I love watching Harper on center stage.
22:10I love watching Schwarber on center stage,
22:12rooting for our guy Don Mattingly to get to a World Series.
22:16He was so close to winning it last year as a bench coach with the Toronto Blue Jays.
22:21But all the series yesterday, the wild card, all four of them were unbelievable.
22:27This series has been an absolute banger.
22:29It's been terrific.
22:31It's been unpredictable.
22:32It's been playoff baseball personified.
22:35Out west, the Padres took care of business again.
22:38Game two against the Cubs, whose offense was somehow worse than the pathetic Red Sox.
22:43San Diego now advancing to face the Brewers, who had the best record in baseball this season.
22:49San Diego's pitching was outstanding in this series against the Cubs.
22:54And I would credit the Padres' pitchers before I was critical of these two guys.
23:02But, my goodness, this was brutal.
23:07Look, Alex Bregman is one of the great, prolific postseason performers in baseball in the last 15 years.
23:14PCA is an absolute superstar stud.
23:17And, you know, the fact that he just completed one of the great seasons you'll see in the National League
23:25in the last 15 years with 40-40 and all the leadoff homers and the clutch homers and the amazing
23:30defense.
23:31He's going to get every first place vote for MVP.
23:34Look at those numbers once again.
23:35I mean, those numbers for PCA and Alex Bregman, that's about as brutal as it gets.
23:420 for 15, eight strikeouts, and they never really got on base.
23:47They couldn't do anything.
23:49Now, Cubs fans won't be happy, obviously.
23:53But I can do nothing here but credit the Padres.
23:56The way the Padres performed in this series, you know I predicted it.
24:01You know I don't think it's a surprise.
24:03First of all, I'm obsessed with baseball in San Diego.
24:06Love the crowd.
24:07Love the team.
24:08Love how Pavetta and five pitchers combined to ultimately get that done yesterday.
24:13The pitching's great.
24:15The power's great.
24:16Sheet steps to the dish.
24:18They're chanting, holy sheets.
24:20And then, bam!
24:22Two-run Jack!
24:23Like right out of a movie.
24:24It's not San Diego, it's Hollywood right there.
24:27The crowd's going ballistic.
24:29Tatis, post-game, pouring champagne to our friend John Fanta.
24:34He's ripping heaters in the dugout in the locker room.
24:38It's like Jim Leland reincarnated.
24:40I can't get enough.
24:42Machado's unbelievable.
24:44Xander Bogarts.
24:45The whole ambiance.
24:47This Padre team's got something going on.
24:51And you've got to be careful, right?
24:52I don't want to be a hypocrite here and cite regular season stats because they could have
24:58nothing to do with anything come playoff time.
25:02But Padres played great against the Brewers.
25:05Padres went into Milwaukee and swept them in August.
25:08I think the Padres are going to beat Milwaukee.
25:09This is not an overreaction.
25:12You remember I said this on Chinetime when the bracket came out.
25:15I said the Padres will beat the Milwaukee Brewers.
25:19So I was not surprised in any way, shape, or form to see the fact that the Padres busted
25:25out the brooms, swept the Cubs.
25:27Look, the Cubs were injured.
25:29And that's not an excuse here, right?
25:31Gossman's a dog.
25:32He's a great playoff pitcher.
25:34Ask a Blue Jay fan.
25:35They understand that.
25:36He was not 100% healthy.
25:38And bam, Padres pounced.
25:40Scored early.
25:41Scored often.
25:42Did an excellent job in this series.
25:44I think the Padres, this, and I ranked it, Dodgers, Padres.
25:49In terms of teams, I can go out and win the National League and eventually win a World Series.
25:54That would be my ranking, even if you combine both leagues.
25:57Dodgers, Padres.
25:58On a ranking of teams that I believe in to win the World Series.
26:01And listen, just like I said with the Yankees, it's not a success.
26:05For the Padres, I feel the same way.
26:07And I know what the Brewers did in the regular season.
26:10I don't trust the Brewers as far as I can throw them.
26:13I have the Padres beating the Brewers in the NLDS.
26:18The White Sox handled the loser Astros in two games down in Houston.
26:25And after the sweep was complete, it was the Murakami Show once again.
26:32You got to tell me, what are you feeling right now?
26:34100.
26:35100, not 1,000 this time?
26:37Yeah, 100.
26:38Oh, I'm Japanese.
26:40Yo.
26:42Hey, it's early in Japan.
26:44They're celebrating with you.
26:45Anything you want to say to them?
26:46Same, same, same.
26:48Same.
26:49Yeah, he's drunk.
26:50He's drunk.
26:51Ah, but he's drunk.
26:55Yeah.
26:55You told me you didn't need him.
26:57I'm drunk.
26:58Yeah, yeah, sorry, maybe hungover, you know?
27:02Yeah.
27:03Tomorrow hungover.
27:04Yes.
27:05No, no, yesterday, tomorrow.
27:06Yeah, sorry.
27:07I don't speak English.
27:09You don't need the translator.
27:10Congratulations, Brewers.
27:11Thank you so much.
27:12I am also drunk, drunk on life, watching Murakami every time he celebrates.
27:19I mean, first of all, as a Yankee fan, berget cheating fraud Astros, berget losers, get out
27:27of my face, you awful, fraudulent 81-81, lucky to win the AOS, get out of here.
27:34By the way, how about our guy Pope Leo?
27:38Just saying.
27:39Went to Villanova.
27:41Villanova helped the Knicks win a championship.
27:43Pope Leo.
27:44Roots for the White Sox.
27:48You decide.
27:49Just throwing that out there.
27:51The Chicago White Sox lost 300-plus games the last three years going into 2026.
28:00How are they doing it?
28:01I don't know.
28:02Ask Pope Leo.
28:03Or ask Murakami, because he's drunk.
28:06And he's amazing.
28:07White Sox don't beat themselves.
28:09It's kind of amazing.
28:10So, we have the White Sox taking on the Guardians.
28:14And the whole thing bothers me.
28:16Look at the playoff bracket.
28:18And the fact that baseball doesn't recede is a joke.
28:23I will defend Rob Manford for the wild card round.
28:27Seriously.
28:27I always hated when it was just one game, nine fluky innings.
28:32They changed the wild card round beautifully.
28:36Seriously.
28:37It was beautiful.
28:38And I say this to someone who is in the buzz business, right?
28:43I host a national radio show on Sirius XM for 22 years on Mad Dog Sports Radio.
28:48And I interact with callers nationwide and people filling up my social media feed,
28:54obviously by watching Shine Time every single day.
28:58Since Manford changed the playoff format, okay,
29:01there's more buzz than ever when it comes to baseball.
29:05More buzz in July, more buzz for the trade deadline because you think you have a chance,
29:12more buzz in August, September matters.
29:15So, changing the format for the wild card, first round buy, second round buy,
29:23giving these teams something to play for, giving all these teams something to play for for the wild card,
29:28more trades, more fans engaged, more reasons to go to the ballpark, it's terrific.
29:33The fact that baseball doesn't recede is a joke.
29:38And honestly, of all the teams that are pictured here on the postseason graphic,
29:42the team that I feel the worst for, the Tampa Rays.
29:46They shouldn't have to play the Yankees.
29:49This is not a Yankees topic.
29:50Look, Yankees, Red Sox, wild card round, I can deal with it.
29:54And I'm a diehard Yankees fan.
29:56If you're a Yankee fan and you were upset, you know what the Yankees should have done?
29:59Won a few more games.
30:01Then they would have had the number one seed and that would have been that.
30:04But the fact that Tampa, as clearly the best team in the American League,
30:12has to play the team with the second best record, the Yankees, is unfair.
30:17It's unfair to the Rays.
30:18Because the Yankees are going to beat them.
30:20And if I was a Rays fan, I would be pissed.
30:22Seriously.
30:23This is a terrible job by Rob Manfred, who absolutely has to adjust.
30:28Also, Cleveland, Chicago?
30:33I mean, I wouldn't watch that if they were playing that in the Shine Time studio.
30:37I mean, there's no buzz.
30:39There's no juice.
30:40No one cares.
30:41You should have the Rays going up against the White Sox and the Yankees at Cleveland.
30:45And frankly, and again, this is part of the reseed,
30:48you want to give Cleveland a bye because they win a division?
30:52I'm cool with that.
30:54But then for the divisional round, you have to reseed everything.
30:58The Yankees, with the second best record in the American League,
31:01should be at home against the Cleveland Guardians.
31:04That's what you should do.
31:05The NFL reseeds.
31:07That's how it works.
31:08The team, that's the smart thing to do.
31:12Does Rob Manfred not watch the NFL?
31:14Does he not?
31:15Do you want me to set up a meeting with Manfred and Roger Goodell?
31:18I'd be more than happy to do this because this is not good for baseball.
31:22When you have the two best, because here's the nightmare scenario, right?
31:28Chicago or Cleveland goes to the World Series.
31:33I mean, nobody wants that because those teams aren't very good.
31:36So if you get the Yankees or the Rays, that's one thing.
31:40But this series, Yankees and Rays, should be the ALCS, not the ALDS.
31:47And I'm not just randomly, like, throwing team names out there.
31:51And I support Manfred in terms of the wild card round.
31:55But for the divisional round and the championship, you have to reseed.
31:59You have to do it.
32:01The fact that it's locked into a bracket, you know, this is not college basketball.
32:05Come on.
32:06Let's focus, Manfred.
32:08You're better than that.
32:09Remember when Jerry Jones said this?
32:24The old man with money made a big move overnight.
32:26We discuss the massive trip to the Cowboys and Steelers next on Shine Time.
32:32You want all the picks you can get.
32:34But this time of the year, what you're interested in is what you've done with the picks that you've used.
32:42And what you might be able to do if you could add to bringing talent on the roster.
32:49We're still alive and well in that area.
32:52But picks are important.
32:55That's your consideration for the future when it gets to the draft.
33:02But what's top of mind for me right now is getting the best team we can put on this field.
33:08That was Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones on 105.7 The Fan in Dallas all the way back
33:15on September the 8th.
33:16Before the NFL season, it even kicked off.
33:19Kind of hinting the idea how to trade up his sleeve.
33:26Last night, he pulled it off.
33:27Cowboys made an unbelievable trade.
33:29They acquired Steelers quarterback Joey Porter Jr.
33:33For a 2027 six-round pick and 2028 second-round pick.
33:39This is a phenomenal deal for the Dallas Cowboys.
33:42See a problem, fix a problem.
33:45Joey Porter Jr. is one of the best corners in the league.
33:49He was only available because they were at an impasse in terms of Porter and his agent with Omar Khan
33:56and the Steelers in terms of the guaranteed money.
33:58And that's why, and just so we're clear, if you're a Cowboys fan, he is not injured.
34:03He was missing time because he wanted a new contract.
34:06That's what that was.
34:08And it goes noted, as of we're taping on Thursday, the Cowboys haven't given him new money.
34:15I'm sure they will at some point.
34:16But it's not like this was one of those transactions where it's like, we'll only do it if you give
34:21us the money first.
34:22No, no.
34:23No, he wanted out of Pittsburgh, and now he goes to Dallas.
34:26And if you're a Cowboys fan or someone who picked the Cowboys to do great things this season, you're dancing
34:33in the streets.
34:34Because the Cowboys defense has been bad.
34:37The cornerback position has been no good.
34:40And now there's a bunch of injuries.
34:43And the Cowboys are coming off of that impossible, improbable Brian Schottenheimer special where he completely boxed the end of
34:52a game in Rio against Baltimore that they could have and should have won.
34:55I mean, that game was in the bank.
34:58And Shottie screwed the whole thing up.
35:00To get Joey Porter Jr.
35:02And our friend Adam Schefter from ESPN says, Porter might even play this week against Houston?
35:09This is a coup.
35:10An absolute coup.
35:13I am obsessed with this.
35:15Listen, if you're a Cowboys fan, you look at the schedule, you know what you see?
35:19Wins.
35:20Seriously.
35:21And there's no excuse.
35:23They should be able to go on a long, sustained winning streak.
35:27They should beat Houston.
35:29I know Houston has a lot of great defensive players.
35:33They're due to win.
35:34I don't care.
35:35Should beat Houston.
35:36Should beat Tampa.
35:36Should beat Green Bay.
35:38Better than Philly.
35:39Should beat Arizona.
35:40Should beat the Colts.
35:41And then San Francisco is going to be in Dallas.
35:44Porter Jr., exactly what the doctor ordered.
35:48And if you are a fan of the Dallas Cowboys, you have to love that Jerry Jones put his money
35:55where his mouth was.
35:56He was hinting at a trade.
35:57And, you know, for Dallas, you know, and they've been wheeling and dealing, the Micah deal, the Quinn Williams deal,
36:03the George Pickens deal, everything that's been part of the equation.
36:06For Dallas to give up draft picks, they must think Porter is a special player because Dallas is excellent.
36:11We talk about this all the time on Shine Time.
36:13Excellent when it comes to drafting on day one and day two.
36:16They are Stephen Jones, Will McClay, Jerry Jones deserve so much credit for that.
36:21So the fact that they're giving up a second-round pick in 2028, listen, I think that's amazing.
36:27By the way, there is a flip side here.
36:30If you're a fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, you should be livid.
36:34Steam coming out of your ears.
36:36It happens all the time in sports, no matter the level of player.
36:41Look at what happened in Detroit with the Tigers and Tariq Skubal.
36:44Sometimes you have to trade a player based upon a contractual dispute.
36:50Happens all the time.
36:52How in the world, if you weren't planning on acquiescing to Joey Porter Jr.
36:58and his agent's demands in terms of guaranteed money, how do you not trade him in the springtime?
37:05Or worst-case scenario, if you were holding out hope, again, this is Joey Porter's kid.
37:11His dad played for the Steelers.
37:13So if you thought it was going to work out and you wanted to wait until the very last minute
37:17in August,
37:18you still had to trade him in August to get a draft pick back, a good one, in 2028,
37:28Aaron Rodgers is going to be on Joe Rogan's podcast and doing ayahuasca by then.
37:33I mean, what are we talking about here?
37:35Why would you do that?
37:37That makes absolutely no sense.
37:39So if I'm a Steelers fan, I'm livid.
37:41Not to mention the fact there's a game tonight.
37:46And I know that the players love Joey Porter Jr.
37:50They love him.
37:51So you go to bed at night, you wake up in the morning,
37:54and you see that Joey Porter Jr. is gone for draft picks?
37:59What does that do for the esteem of the football team?
38:02What a mess.
38:03What a bad job.
38:04Again, if you have to trade a player because of a contract,
38:07even an integral player for a team that I think is going to be really good,
38:09and I still think Steelers is going to be really good,
38:12just do it in the offseason.
38:14Fans will deal with it.
38:15It is what it is.
38:16You'll link it to a couple reporters.
38:18It was all because of money.
38:19He wanted this.
38:20You were willing to give him that.
38:22You make a trade, you move on.
38:23To do it right before you have a game on Thursday Night Football
38:26makes absolutely no sense.
38:29With that said, Steelers are in Cleveland tonight
38:32against Deshaun Watson and the surprising Browns.
38:35And listen, I think this is going to be a real slobber knocker of a game.
38:39The Pittsburgh Steelers, by the way, under Mike Tomlin,
38:44I want you to stay with me on this stat,
38:46they are 0-9 in their last nine road division Thursday Night Football games.
38:57Think about that for a second.
38:58Now you have Mike McCarthy and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
39:02The offense, a lot of people killing it, week one, week two, phenomenal, week three.
39:08McCarthy deserves credit.
39:09Reshuffled the offensive line.
39:10They ran the ball effectively with Warren.
39:13Aaron Rodgers was outstanding, and he deserves a ton of credit.
39:17And obviously, you saw the receivers get involved, the tight ends get involved.
39:23I have to believe that's going to be a harbinger of things to come.
39:26I think what Rodgers did in week three, he will be able to duplicate tonight.
39:33Now, it's not going to be automatic against Cleveland.
39:36It's not your older brother's Cleveland Browns.
39:39And for the sake of conversation and fairness here,
39:42Cleveland's looked really good the last couple of weeks.
39:45I don't want to hear about competition.
39:48Nobody, nobody thought they were going to go into Tampa Bay
39:52and just absolutely dominate the Bucs in the second half of that game.
39:56Not a human being on planet Earth.
39:59Defense played well.
40:00Deshaun Watson played incredibly well.
40:03Give Todd Munkin credit.
40:04And then they went home against the Panther team
40:06that just exploded the week before against the Atlanta Falcons,
40:09and they were fantastic.
40:11And you see the numbers for Deshaun Watson.
40:14They're really good.
40:15Threw a couple touchdown passes to Harold Fennett Jr.
40:18He has utilized the young stud receivers, Boston and Concepcion,
40:22and it's been really impressive to watch and give the Monk man credits
40:26for what he's been able to do.
40:28And you look at Aaron Rodgers and his numbers,
40:31and I think you have to anticipate that you're going to get more of the same tonight.
40:37Listen, I would, in theory, be careful about playing this game, right?
40:44The spread is two and a half.
40:46We will, we pick every game on Shine Time, as you know.
40:49We will lay the two and a half with Pittsburgh.
40:53We will take the Pittsburgh Steelers to win, Pittsburgh Steelers to cover.
40:57It's going to be a sloppy game.
41:00I think this has 23-17 written all over it.
41:05I'll take the Steelers and hold my nose and my breath as I watch it.
41:11But if the Steelers don't win tonight, we're going to go back to this Joey Porter Jr. trade tomorrow.
41:16Seriously.
41:17Because then you start talking about a full circle distraction.
41:21Flip side.
41:22Steelers win.
41:24Steelers get to three and one.
41:27That's impressive.
41:28A lot of Steelers fans were very concerned that was not going to happen under Mike McCarthy after the first
41:34couple weeks.
41:35I told everyone, in Aaron Rodgers fashion, R-E-L-A-X.
41:41Tonight is a big one in terms of how much you can relax as a Steelers fan.
41:47Steelers only lost this season given the hands of New England Patriots who have looked otherwise atrocious this season.
41:52Rumors swirling about a rift between head coach Mike Vrabel and his quarterback, Drake May.
41:57Vrabel addressed that report with the media on Wednesday.
42:01Let me just tell you why I'm here.
42:02I'm here because Drake was the quarterback.
42:04Believe it or not, I had choices to where I wanted to coach.
42:07I wanted to coach here because Drake was the quarterback.
42:10So, you know, I don't have really much other to add to that about, you know, a comment from an
42:18unnamed source.
42:18But I'll just tell you what I've told numerous people if they want to ask me why I'm here.
42:25I mean, listen, I think Mike Vrabel is in New England because he wanted to coach New England and that's
42:31where he played.
42:31He loves Bob Kraft.
42:32And, yes, Drake May's part of it, no question about it.
42:37But, you know, let's not fudge the truth here.
42:42Let me give you some truth.
42:43Drake May sticks.
42:44Look at the numbers, watch him play, and I'm not sitting here just throwing shade.
42:50I mean, we were obsessed with Drake May.
42:53I'm a voter for MVP.
42:54He was number two on my ballot based upon what he did in the regular season in 2025.
42:59Since then, I mean, look at those numbers.
43:02Look at the touchdown, total touchdown to turnover ratio.
43:06That is deplorable.
43:08Drake May looks broken.
43:11And the Buffalo Bills have a golden opportunity on Sunday to bury the Patriots, to bury Drake May.
43:21And I think the Buffalo Bills are going to do just that.
43:24Again, you don't have to sell the Bills, Josh Allen, Joe Brady, a Bills fan, on the importance of this
43:31game.
43:32Tom Brady used to destroy Buffalo even in prior years.
43:35You know, last year we've seen New England stunningly out of nowhere win a division.
43:40Remember the game with Belichick and Mac Jones years ago?
43:43You don't have to tell the Bills they need to get up for New England.
43:47But I really think on Monday on Shine Time, one of our headlines, one of our Monday musings, one of
43:55our talking points will be the Patriots are dead.
43:58And I expect the Bills to play with that kind of fever and swagger and intensity because this Vrabel May
44:07stuff, it's a mess.
44:09You know what else is a mess?
44:11Drake May playing the quarterback position.
44:13Washington Commanders coach Dan Quinn said he needs to see more from quarterback Jaden Daniels before deciding whether or not
44:19he can play on Sunday against the Colts in London.
44:22Daniels dislocated his left elbow, week two loss at Dallas, returned to practice, albeit in a limited fashion, on Wednesday.
44:29Daniels suffered the same injury in week nine last season, aggravated upon his return five weeks later.
44:34Washington then shut him down for the final four games of 2025.
44:37And it's important that we reference what happened last year because why are we even having this conversation?
44:43Seriously, last time I checked, that wasn't just something we created in our head.
44:47Marcus Mariota threw three touchdowns and out of nowhere, Washington was able to beat Seattle in the biggest upset of
44:53the NFL season.
44:55Why are we doing this?
44:56Why is it even a topic?
44:58Like, I have no expectations ever for Dan Quinn to do the right thing.
45:02I don't think he has any idea.
45:03There are a lot of Dan Quinn truthers out there in the media.
45:07Why?
45:08I don't know.
45:09It makes no sense to me.
45:11I think he's a good coach at best, but, you know, this is not Vince Lombardi here.
45:17It makes no sense.
45:18So, this one should be easy.
45:22Jaden Daniels doesn't play.
45:24Like, they paid me to add more words.
45:25There are no more words.
45:28Jaden Daniels does not play.
45:31We're going to wait and see what's going to happen with Daniels.
45:34Meanwhile, the Rams are ready to welcome back a major piece of their offense.
45:36Sean McVeigh told reporters yesterday he expects Puka Nakua to play in Sunday's game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
45:43Nakua, officially a limited participant Wednesday's practice, a sign that is nearing a return.
45:49McVeigh talked to ESPN Los Angeles and painted a very rosy picture.
45:54Also, you take a look at Los Angeles.
45:57They need him to play.
45:59And, you know, you factor in what McVeigh revealed the league told him about the pass interference.
46:06We've been going nuts on this on Shine Time.
46:08The Rams got robbed.
46:10The league told them it was the wrong call.
46:11So, they're also 1-2.
46:14This right now has been a Hollywood flop.
46:16I still very much believe in the L.A. Rams.
46:20Phillies looked awful all year.
46:21They're 2-1.
46:22They should be 0-3.
46:23On field, they should be.
46:24They just got destroyed by Case Keenum.
46:27Stafford, Nakua, Adams, McVeigh.
46:31That defense, they dominate the Philadelphia Eagles.
46:35No excuse.
46:36But wait, there's more.
46:45I created a, you know, a city.
46:47And they spawned a city.
46:48And I just wanted to start around a body of water.
46:51At the time, I had no idea, you know, how big the city might get.
46:57Or whatever.
46:58But I kind of wanted densely populated buildings and so forth.
47:02And so, I started small.
47:03And, of course, over the course of 12 years, man, you develop neighborhoods and communities and so forth.
47:08We'll get into some of that.
47:10But this is kind of where it all started.
47:12Around this body of water.
47:13And I thought it was appropriate to kind of just give you that perspective.
47:18I think there are a couple of important things here.
47:21That, of course, Mike Tomlin, the former Steelers head coach, who's been phenomenal on NBC.
47:26And clearly, he's into television.
47:29He's been critical of coaches.
47:31He killed Christian Parker last week.
47:33Tomlin on NBC has been remarkable.
47:35Absolutely incredible.
47:36That's Tomlin.
47:37And the Internet's blowing up.
47:39He's, you know, on YouTube, live last night, discussing the Minecraft city he's been building.
47:47For the last 12 years.
47:51So, we went deep on this.
47:54You want to see the Steelers playoff stats for the last 12 years?
47:58I already gave you the stat about Thursday Night Football, right?
48:03Their 0-9 last nine division road games.
48:07Oh, I don't know.
48:09Maybe, just maybe, Tomlin should have been doing more in terms of the film study
48:17instead of Minecraft.
48:20Just throwing that out there.
48:22Last but not least, here on Shine Time, we'd like to keep you up to date.
48:26The latest on the culinary world.
48:27Today's entry comes from Truist Park in Atlanta, where you can get this
48:31at the Phillies Braves Game 3 tonight.
48:36It's the long ball.
48:38It is two feet of spiced beef, pork farmer's sausage, charred over hardwood coals, topped
48:47with peach bourbon mustard, crispy lemon pepper onions, bacon jam, Carolina gold sauce, a
48:57sweet kind of hot sauce, smoked cheddar, pickled green tomato.
49:05I want to be crystal clear on this, and I want you to pay attention, because the internet
49:10likes to get very hot and heavy when they see something like this.
49:16This is the greatest sandwich I've ever seen.
49:18I want this.
49:20I want this now.
49:21I want this always.
49:22Whoever put this together at a ballpark should get a raise, should get a lifetime contract.
49:29Whatever service the Braves are using, that's it.
49:34That is a great southern dish at a baseball game.
49:39I want to fly to Atlanta right now.
49:41I would devour the entire thing if it was right here in front of me, Shine Time.
49:47I would eat the whole thing.
49:49That is the perfect sandwich.
49:51All of it.
49:52Every element.
49:54Bring it on.
49:55Long ball for life.
49:56That's a show.
49:57If you missed any portion of the show, just do what I do and rewatch the show over and
50:01over and over again.
50:02Go to our new YouTube page at Shine Time.
50:04We'll see you tomorrow on Shine Time.
