00:05What did Ben's home run do for you there?
00:08I mean, you're in a tight game, trying to protect a 1-0 lead.
00:10He puts one in Monument Park.
00:12Does that feel like a big run in that game based on how close things were?
00:16100%.
00:16I mean, their guy was pitching really well.
00:19And, you know, Ben does an excellent job today.
00:22Obviously, caps it off there with the Grand Slam.
00:24You know, Wellesley starts us off there.
00:27So, I mean, he's been amazing all season.
00:29You know, obviously another local guy.
00:31So, it's a great feeling to see him go out there and dominate.
00:34Oh, baby!
00:35My New York Yankees!
00:37Your New York Yankees!
00:38Our New York Yankees!
00:41How ironic and awesome was it that Massachusetts natives, Cam Schlittler and Ben Rice,
00:47combined to absolutely own the Boston Red Sox in game number one.
00:52This was right out of central casting.
00:56Absolutely sensational.
00:57Wicked awesome.
00:58What a banger of a back page from the New York Post sports.
01:02Absolutely sensational as the two Massachusetts kids able to take care of business and rock
01:09and roll last night.
01:10Honestly, Ben Rice was awesome.
01:14Cam Schlittler was awesome.
01:15The MVP for the Yankees, arguably, was Red Sox manager Chad Tracy, who grady-littled the
01:22whole thing in the fifth inning.
01:25Ben Rice is up.
01:27Tolley has been absolutely terrific.
01:29Schlittler, Tolley, as advertised.
01:32He takes Tolley out of the game in the fifth inning when he's dealing for Eric Miller.
01:40Miller, and I understand Miller's a lefty specialist, and he said after the game, wanted to give him
01:44a different look.
01:45Well, take a look at this ball leaving the yard.
01:49Are you kidding me?
01:50And people in the fourth inning when he's dealing with Chad Tracy, absolutely, positively,
01:53and so on the parts of Chad Tracy.
01:57And we talked about this.
01:58Say what you want about Alex Cora, and he gets fired during the season.
02:02Alex Cora is going to the Hall of Fame.
02:04Alex Cora is a phenomenal manager.
02:06So, Ben Rice, the Massachusetts kid, the prodigious slugger with an unbelievable blast,
02:14absolutely cranked that baby to dead center field.
02:18Love that.
02:19Love when the sports gods answer an asinine managerial decision.
02:24That was awesome.
02:26And Benny Rice, Rice was cooking, baby, taking advantage of the theater of the absurd.
02:32And honestly, 2-0, that was it.
02:35Because Cam Schlittler was on fire.
02:38Cam, I am you freak.
02:40This was unbelievable.
02:42Schlitt happens.
02:43You look at Cam Schlittler and what he does in big moments, specifically against his hometown team, the Boston Red
02:50Sox.
02:51I mean, holy Schlitt, he did it again.
02:53This was perfection.
02:56And I got to give Aaron Boone credit.
02:58He lets Cam Schlittler continue to work, continue to pitch, because sometimes you have a perspective on a pitch count.
03:05You got to take a pitch count and stick it where the sun don't shine.
03:09117 pitches might, quote-unquote, be a lot.
03:12It's not like he was laboring.
03:14Cam Schlittler, his mound, his ball game, absolutely filthy, dominant stuff.
03:20Schlittler had it going on.
03:21Six and a third, ten strikeouts, one walk, two hits.
03:24He was awesome.
03:26And letting him go into the seventh, take him as long as he could go, his mound, his game, preserve
03:32the bullpen simultaneously.
03:34Schlittler was awesome.
03:36And Aaron Boone deserves credit for letting him rock and roll in the fashion that he did.
03:40And listen, Ben Rice, what a ball game.
03:44Absolutely incredible.
03:45Four hits last night for our guy Ben Rice.
03:48The grand slam to put it away.
03:50Also had that RBI to make it 3-0, which was a huge deal.
03:54Rice, Rice, baby!
03:56Let's go!
03:57Couple of homers.
03:58And look at this.
03:59Anytime you become the first in Yankee history, think about all the sluggers.
04:05Think about all the great moments when you start talking about Yankee playoffs and October magic.
04:12First player in Yankee history with multiple homers, including a grand slam in a postseason game.
04:19That's amazing.
04:21Absolutely incredible.
04:22That's why you absolutely love Ben Rice.
04:26Able to do this.
04:27I mean, the nuggets of domination and jubilation on your screen right there.
04:33Just incredible.
04:35You heard Cam Schlittler reference it in the sound to start the show.
04:38I thought after you move past Schlittler, after you move past Ben Rice, Austin Wells was an unsung hero last
04:46night.
04:46Listen, in a game featuring a couple of studs on the mound that I said yesterday on Shine Time that
04:52we were going to see a low-scoring game, high-intensity game.
04:56I wouldn't be surprised if the final score was 2-1 when it was all said and done.
05:01Austin Wells coming through after Lombard and Volpe were able to reach.
05:05Knocks in the first run.
05:07I tweeted it instantly.
05:08Feels like a big deal.
05:10That was huge.
05:11Lombard, first playoff game, three hits.
05:14Let's be honest.
05:15The first two were not exactly missiles or lasers.
05:18It doesn't matter.
05:20Watching Lombard and his confidence and watching him rake, I thought that was a big deal.
05:25And now, first playoff game in the books, he got three hits.
05:30That was outstanding.
05:31And now you move on with a little bit more breathing room to game two and then to the rest
05:36of the postseason.
05:37So I thought that was awesome.
05:39Let's give Aaron Boone credit for how he managed Schlittler last night.
05:43Listen, I thought the lineup was awful.
05:46Like the theater of the absurd.
05:48I disagreed with almost everything.
05:50The batting order, who was in, in what universe is Ramos batting third for the Yankees in a playoff game?
05:57I mean, that's as brutal as it gets.
06:00I never would have played Volpe.
06:01We could go on and on and on.
06:03But Aaron Boone, I got to give credit where credit is due.
06:06He managed in-game an excellent game.
06:10And whether or not I like the lineup, even if my first guess is some of them hid, listen, it
06:16worked.
06:16In a results-oriented business, it's his job to manage the Yankees.
06:19It's his job to win.
06:21And I love the way he handled Schlittler.
06:23So I give him a ton of credit.
06:24The Yankees had a couple of good challenges last night.
06:27A lot of positives across the board, including taking advantage of that major managerial miscue by Chad Tracy.
06:36So now, it's the job of the New York Yankees to eliminate the Boston Red Sox.
06:43It's best two out of three.
06:45And I don't want to see a third game.
06:48I want to see the Yankees, with my guy Max Fried on the bump, absolutely end the Boston Red Sox
06:54season tonight.
06:55And listen, I absolutely love Sonny Gray.
06:59And when I say I love Sonny Gray, look, I loved when the Yankees traded for him, because he was
07:05phenomenal in Oakland.
07:06Then, after he was no good wearing the Yankee uniform, he was great everywhere else.
07:11Cincinnati and St. Louis and Minnesota.
07:14And see the numbers on the screen right there?
07:17I mean, there's a real case to be made.
07:19We talked about it on Shine Time during the course of the season.
07:22Sonny Gray was the third best pitcher in the American League.
07:26Schlittler, Cease, Gray?
07:28I mean, I think that's a fair way to rank it.
07:31And if you're looking at how they performed during the season, it's fine and fair if you want to say,
07:38okay, Sonny Gray is better than Max Fried.
07:42Give me Max Fried tonight.
07:43This is why the Yankees signed Max Fried.
07:45This is why Max Fried is an absolute stud.
07:48Look at when he won a championship in Atlanta.
07:50Look at what he's done for the Yankees in the postseason.
07:52He is a bulldog.
07:54He's going to win.
07:55He has, and I love Sonny Gray's talent, the mental toughness to pitch at Yankee Stadium,
08:01to deal with playoff pressure.
08:03And you had Sonny Gray signing Boston in mid.
08:06He never wanted to be a Yankee in the first place.
08:09And he didn't like being in New York and didn't like wearing the uniform.
08:12And his agent lied to Brian Cashman and everything that goes into it.
08:16We talked about it on Shine Time.
08:17I couldn't believe that he said it.
08:19So I think that every single person who's going to be at Yankee Stadium tonight
08:23is going to be booing the hell out of Sonny Gray for his performance,
08:28when he was a Yankee, for those comments, when he signed with Boston.
08:31And Max Fried, he's going to rock and roll.
08:34Now, listen, this is supremely important here, okay?
08:38The Boston Red Sox have really had, if you think about it, three different seasons.
08:43Atrocious to start, they fired Alex Cora.
08:46Then they were arguably the World Series favorites how they played
08:50when they were on fire after Chad Tracy took over.
08:54And then August, September, they kind of became a mediocre baseball team.
09:00They're just not that good.
09:02The offense is not that good.
09:04They have injuries all over the place.
09:06Even Roman Anthony didn't talk to the press last night.
09:08That was really weak.
09:09You know, he got hurt again last night.
09:11So it's the Yankees' job to eliminate Boston.
09:15Boston, even the Yankees without Aaron Judge,
09:18I'm not worried about it for this specific series.
09:20The Yankees, as is on the field, are better than Boston.
09:24Don't give them any hope.
09:26Don't give them any hope.
09:28Win.
09:29Eliminate them.
09:30Bust out the brooms.
09:31I don't want to see the Boston Red Sox again until next season.
09:36That's a show.
09:37That's a short show.
09:38We've got much more Shine Time coming your way later this afternoon.
09:41We'll talk about the Padres smashing the Cubs.
09:43I'm going to defend our guy Don Mattingly's bullpen decision in game number one.
09:47We'll get into Jerry Jones taking issue with his coach
09:49and Jim Harbaugh taking issue with his quarterback.
09:52And the Liberty just became the first eight seed in WNBA history to knock off a one seed.
09:58Come back to our new YouTube page at Shine Time in a couple hours for all that and more.
10:03We'll see you in a bit.
