00:00See, here's the problem, because I'm hot, and I'm bothered, and I'm angry, and I'm pissed off.
00:05The Yankees aren't going to do anything.
00:08I don't even think Hal Steinbrenner had a bad night.
00:10Think about that for a second.
00:12I think Hal Steinbrenner saw the crowd, and he's good.
00:16He's fine.
00:18George would have fired everyone before the postgame news conference.
00:30It's all over.
00:33Back page of the New York Post.
00:37It's all over.
00:38It's all over.
00:40Honestly, I'm still angry.
00:44I can't.
00:49Here's Aaron Boone and Aaron Judge after the latest Yankee debacle.
00:53There's just no easy way.
00:54I mean, it's a broken clubhouse.
00:59It's just what you go through as a team, as a family, over the last eight, nine months,
01:05getting ready for this, and, you know, there's just – it's the worst.
01:14We're the Yankees.
01:15I feel like they should go all in and do what they need to do and find – if we
01:18got holes,
01:19if it's finding certain players or personnel, whatever we need, you got to go out there and get it.
01:23That's why I signed back here to play with the Yankees is to fight for a championship every single year.
01:28And to go all in, that's what I do every offseason is get ready to, you know,
01:33give this team and this city everything I got, so I expect them to do the same.
01:37The Yankees make me sick, physically ill.
01:40This team is an embarrassment.
01:42They can't hit.
01:43They can't field.
01:45They can't manage.
01:46This team is awful, absolutely awful.
01:50This was, you can make the case, eyeball test.
01:53Also, we have the stats to back it up, the single worst playoff series in Yankee history.
02:00They got swept.
02:02Didn't have a lead in three games against the Tampa Rays.
02:06The Yankees, before the season started, the payroll was 303 mil.
02:10Rays, 93 mil.
02:12Now, choose your favorite nugget of futility.
02:16They scored five runs in the series.
02:19Five freaking runs.
02:22They didn't have a lead.
02:24Didn't have a lead once in three games.
02:27This is the theater of the absurd.
02:30It's incredible.
02:32You look at it.
02:33They hit 130.
02:36130 against Tampa Bay.
02:38Their on-base percentage was 192.
02:41You can't make this up.
02:44This is now the largest gap between championships in the history of the franchise.
02:50Look at these sickly, gross numbers.
02:54The lowest numbers, worst percentages by every single measuring stick that matters
03:00in Yankee playoff history in a series.
03:05Damn!
03:07This is unacceptable.
03:09Losing to the Rays, we could have a discussion about it.
03:13Not even putting up a fight.
03:16Not being able to get a hit.
03:19Not being able to catch the ball.
03:23You want to know the turning point in this game?
03:24You want to know the turning point?
03:26I'm going to tell you the turning point.
03:28I'm going to tell you the line-up.
03:29When I saw the line-up with Trent Grisham leading off, I knew this thing was toast.
03:36I knew it was over.
03:37You know why?
03:38Because Trent Grisham is the single worst lead-off hitter in Major League Baseball.
03:43Hyperbole?
03:44No, we have the stats to prove it.
03:46Look at this.
03:47Look at this.
03:48Aaron Boone managed the Yankees.
03:51He had Trent Grisham as a lead-off hitter.
03:55And look at these rankings.
03:56With a minimum of 225 plate appearances, we're talking about the worst bottom of the barrel.
04:05You can't do this.
04:07You can't take a batter under the Mendoza line, hitting 199 as a lead-off hitter, and say,
04:16that's the guy I want getting the most at bats.
04:18That's the guy who's going to set the table.
04:20And Trent Grisham really pisses me off because he, and it's not his fault, he's the poster
04:26child, the snapshot of both Cashman and Aaron Boone being totally clueless.
04:32We went nuts when the Yankees gave Grisham the qualifying offer.
04:38Why?
04:38Because of course he was going to take it.
04:40Because no other team in baseball is going to offer him that money.
04:43Oh, he's not going to take it.
04:45We're going to draft pick.
04:46Nonsense!
04:47And Grisham, you let him go after a good year.
04:50There was no way.
04:51That was the best he was ever going to do.
04:53So not only do you foul that up, and I know fans of smaller market teams don't like to
04:58hear it, but it's going to prevent you from doing more because you have to pay Trent Grisham
05:02for $22, $23 million this year.
05:05But Aaron Boone doesn't know how to manage him.
05:08So what would I have done last night?
05:10Well, the short answer is anything else.
05:12But the real answer, first guess, Ben Rice first.
05:16Nobody else could hit.
05:17The Yankees with a $303 million payroll somehow don't have a leadoff hitter.
05:23There's no quintessential leadoff hitter on the New York Yankees.
05:26You know they've been batting Goldschmidt on occasion in the leadoff.
05:29I was philosophically opposed to Goldschmidt as the leadoff hitter.
05:33I didn't want him playing last night.
05:34They got that right with Garcia.
05:36The only thing that I was adamant on, you have to play Caballero.
05:38I can't look a big man ever again.
05:41Trent Grisham as a leadoff hitter?
05:43I didn't even think to rant against this.
05:46I didn't think it was a possibility.
05:47We interviewed John Hammond yesterday.
05:49I wasn't going to say, I wasn't going to waste your time by saying,
05:52John, do you think Trent Grisham should lead off?
05:54What kind of moron would think Trent Grisham should be the leadoff hitter?
05:59I got the guy, Aaron Boone.
06:03Aaron Boone.
06:06See, here's the problem.
06:07Because I'm hot, and I'm bothered, and I'm angry, and I'm pissed off.
06:11The Yankees aren't going to do anything.
06:14I don't even think Hal Steinbrenner had a bad night.
06:17Think about that for a second.
06:18I think Hal Steinbrenner saw the crowd, and he's good.
06:22He's fine.
06:24George would have fired everyone before the post-game news conference.
06:27And if you understand George Steinbrenner, and sometimes it's,
06:31oh, what would George do?
06:32Sometimes a guy asked him, what would George do?
06:34There were three teams he was going to lose against.
06:36Boston, Mets, Rays.
06:40He didn't like losing to the Rays.
06:42He lived in Tampa.
06:43The team offices were in Tampa.
06:44Spring training facilities in Tampa.
06:46Liked to go to his favorite Italian restaurant in Tampa.
06:49Didn't, you know, like beating the Rays.
06:51He always wanted to be superior,
06:53and was always pissed off when they put a team in Tampa.
06:57George would have fired everyone in the middle of the ballgame.
07:02He would have fired Boone a lifetime ago.
07:05I would have fired Boone.
07:07George would have fired Boone.
07:08When they lost to the Rays, we screwed it up with Davey Garcia in 2020.
07:13I mean, this is not a Johnny-come-lately opinion
07:15when it comes to firing Aaron Boone.
07:17Look at Boone's resume.
07:18It's atrocious, and all he does in the playoffs,
07:23beat the teams with inferior records.
07:25And let me tell you what that's code for.
07:28The AL Central.
07:30Then, if you have to face a team at the end of the day with, you know,
07:33that's a better team, you can't function.
07:37Think about this.
07:38If Kevin Cash was managing the Yankees,
07:42would they be this disorganized?
07:44Would they be this clueless?
07:46I'll tell you this much.
07:47They'd still be playing.
07:48Not having a legit manager is a problem.
07:50And, by the way, we're not absolving Brian Cashman to play him.
07:54I know they never fire him.
07:55He'll sign a new contract.
07:57He's got a lifetime job.
07:58But we went nuts on Shine Time when they didn't trade for an outfielder.
08:03We killed him.
08:05He traded for Ramos.
08:07Wasn't even good enough to crack this awful, pathetic, embarrassing,
08:10no-show lineup last night in a do-or-die game.
08:13I mean, think about that for a second.
08:14The Yankees' outfield is a disaster.
08:18Third base, a disaster.
08:20Volpe, a disaster.
08:21So what would I do?
08:23I'd fire everybody.
08:25Everybody.
08:26I'm not an idiot.
08:27I know they're not going to fire Cashman.
08:29Of course you should fire Boone.
08:30They're not going to.
08:32Because Hal doesn't care.
08:35That's the problem.
08:37Bothers me.
08:38Really bothers me.
08:39And you know what?
08:40That game pissed me off.
08:42I felt terrible for Max Fried, who's such a bulldog, made one bad pitch,
08:46and Mesa Jr. hit that bomb.
08:49And he strutted.
08:50And good for him.
08:51I would have done the same thing if I was him in that spot.
08:54Some guy I've never even heard of for the Rays, hit a Yankee Stadium home run.
08:57By the way, could Spencer Jones time his jump better in right field?
09:01Just throwing that out there?
09:03I mean, you know, I haven't mentioned Aaron Judge
09:07and what would have happened if he would have played in, you know,
09:09they should have won anyway.
09:10But in the outfield, he would have absolutely made that play.
09:13That was awful.
09:15Absolutely awful.
09:16And you pinch hit Giancarlo Stanton.
09:20Same Giancarlo Stanton that, at the end of the day,
09:23fell over when he was trying to put one foot in front of the other.
09:27Did anyone actually think Giancarlo Stanton was going to be able to make contact in that spot?
09:33And credit to Rays.
09:35The Rays were the better team.
09:37Yankees pitching should have put them in position, should have been great enough.
09:41I thought they catch the ball in Game 2.
09:43Didn't happen.
09:43I thought they'd get a couple of hits in Game 2 and Game 3.
09:46Didn't happen.
09:47But this is a bitter disappointment.
09:49This season's a failure.
09:50The New York Yankees won two playoff games in a wild card round.
09:55They regressed from last year.
09:57They didn't win a game in the division round of the postseason against a $93 million Tampa race.
10:03That is unacceptable.
10:04If Hal Steinbrenner was awake, he'd be angry.
10:07But he's asleep.
10:08And that's a problem.
10:09The whole thing makes me sick.
10:12A joke.
10:13A pathetic, grotesque, punchless puke of a baseball team.
10:20As far as it goes to Jeffrey Mayer getting involved in Anthony Volpe's potential game tie and home run last
10:26night.
10:27No.
10:28That wasn't it.
10:29Look.
10:30The Jeffrey Mayer situation with Derek Jeter and Tony Tarasco.
10:35And, listen, if you're an Orioles fan, earmuffs, I mean, obviously that was the wrong call.
10:42Right?
10:42Let's be crystal clear.
10:43No one loves the Yankees more than I do.
10:46Obviously, Tony Tarasco should have caught that ball.
10:48Jeffrey Mayer interfered.
10:50The Yankees got the break of a lifetime.
10:51And they took advantage of it.
10:53No regrets.
10:54Here's my hot take on what happened last night.
10:57The Ups got it right.
10:58And there's no controversy involved.
11:01It was not going to be a home run.
11:03It was not going to be an out.
11:04It was going to go off the wall.
11:06Lombard Jr. was going to score.
11:09He's fast.
11:09There were two outs.
11:10Took off.
11:11Crack of the bats because there were two outs.
11:14I thought TBS Jeff Francor did a great job in terms of explaining it and showing it.
11:19And there's no hot take here.
11:22They got it right.
11:24And if you're a Yankee fan, if you're a baseball fan, if you wanted to watch the Yankees in another
11:29game, you can't complain about this.
11:31This is exactly the way it was supposed to go.
11:34Now, those morons, the dope who interfered with the outfielder, thank goodness he was thrown out.
11:43And let me tell you something.
11:45You should be banned for life from Yankee Stadium.
11:49You should be banned from the Bronx.
11:51Banned from Stan Sports Bar.
11:53And let me tell you what you should ultimately, here should be your punishment.
11:57You're a Mets fan.
11:59That's it.
11:59You're done with the Yankees.
12:01You're not allowed to root for the Yankees ever again.
12:04Your punishment is you are physically going to be forced into burning all of your Yankees gear.
12:12We don't want you.
12:14Okay?
12:14You get season tickets.
12:16We'll buy them for you to Citi Field.
12:18You want to act like a loser?
12:20Enjoy the Mets for the rest of your life.
12:23There's, we talk about this.
12:25There's no more talented team than the Los Angeles Dodgers.
12:28The best organization in sports, top to bottom.
12:31We're smarter, we're better, and we're tougher.
12:36Let's roll, guys.
12:40I mean, spot the lie.
12:43Everything Dave Roberts said is accurate.
12:46They're smarter, they're tougher, they're better, and this is Dodger baseball.
12:51Because you could talk about payroll or galaxy of stars.
12:55How about Vestia coming out of the pen with a couple guys on, and he was so tough, and he
13:00was so clutch, and what he was able to do, getting Matt Olsen to ground outs in the fifth, when
13:06Glasnow was taken out of the game.
13:08Huge.
13:09Then you take a look at Max Muncy hitting a home run.
13:13Pajas with a bases-loaded single.
13:16I mean, absolutely, positively perfection.
13:20From the Dodgers, from the California Post, front page, back page, and the Dodgers are going to end up winning
13:27another championship.
13:28And the way that they bounced back from the game two loss and how it unfolded, playing so great, so
13:36tough, against a confident, plucky, talented, well-managed Braves team in Atlanta, that's Dodger baseball.
13:44And this is another example of why I firmly believe the Dodgers are going to win another World Series.
13:51The Dodgers-NLCS opponents, the Milwaukee Brewers, who knocked out the Padres and spent the night celebrating in San Diego.
13:59Hey, let's go, Brewers!
14:01Freak out!
14:02Let's go, Brewers!
14:03We need to make it three times.
14:05Yeah.
14:06We already know what two times feels like.
14:08It's a lot of fun.
14:09You know, it's even more fun the second time.
14:12And you said, Miz, it is so sweet to do it in somebody else's clubhouse.
14:15So what is this like, doing it in somebody else's house?
14:18It's a lot of fun.
14:19You know, you don't have to worry about the carpet.
14:20And you can just, you know, you can have fun with it.
14:24Good for the Brewers.
14:25And honestly, they earned it.
14:26They deserved it.
14:28And this series, if you paid attention, and I did, and I picked the Padres to win it, and I
14:33was absolutely wrong.
14:35But it was closer than how it reads where Brewers advanced, beating the Padres 3-1.
14:41I mean, even last night, Manny Machado hit that ball 406 feet.
14:45I thought it was gone off the bats.
14:47And then you saw Mitchell rob him of a home run.
14:51Same Mitchell who was phenomenal at the plate.
14:53Jackson Churio is an absolute superstar.
14:55He's a stud.
14:56Love Christian Yelich.
14:58Love Sal Freelich.
14:59Love watching these guys do their thing.
15:01You know, we've been through, obviously, what transpired.
15:04Game 1, the dopey beam and the Brewers-Miller park.
15:09Then, obviously, playing Ty Francis' bomb off the roof, which is crazy.
15:14Mason Miller blows the save.
15:15And Game 2, credit Churio and the Brewers.
15:18The Padres win Game 3, thought they'd win Game 4.
15:21A lot of things went right.
15:23Brewers are better.
15:23Now, I do think, if you're looking for the Dodgers to get the feet in, I still don't think it's
15:29going to be Milwaukee.
15:30I still think the Dodgers are going to end up winning a championship.
15:32I still think the Dodgers are the best team in baseball.
15:37I don't think there's any question about that.
15:39I do think, though, for the sake of honesty, conversation, and fairness, and last year, this series was a sweep,
15:46and the Dodgers busted out the brooms.
15:48Listen, I think that the Brewers are more equipped to hang or make this a series.
15:58Now, the Dodgers will be my pick.
16:00I'm going to sleep on it.
16:01We're going to ultimately, I believe, go Dodgers in 6.
16:05I think the Dodgers are a beautiful baseball machine.
16:07They're going to win another championship.
16:09But the way the Brewers dealt with adversity and created their own luck and pounced on good fortune,
16:17and I don't mean that in a critical way.
16:19I just got done talking about the Yankees and Jeffrey Mayer.
16:22Listen, that's how teams can find a way to get over the hump and win championships.
16:26I just think going up against the Dodgers, this team, these pitchers, these role players in October,
16:34that's a totally different scenario.
16:37Up next on Shine Time, the voice of Monday Night Football.
16:40There he is, Joe Buck.
16:42Keep it locked on Shine Time.
16:45Joining us right now on Shine Time, the voice of Monday Night Football on ESPN,
16:51a legend in the broadcast booth, a man who has called some of the biggest moments in sports history,
16:57and let's be honest, most especially, my guy, the great Joe Buck.
17:01Joe, how are you?
17:03I'm good, Adam.
17:04How are you, man?
17:04Good to see you.
17:05Great to see you.
17:06Doing wonderful.
17:07Can't wait for Monday Night Football with the Bills and the Rams on ESPN in Los Angeles,
17:12also known as the Adam Shine Preseason Super Bowl.
17:17And when this came out, I said, this is my pick.
17:20This is the game that I think you're going to call on Valentine's Day on ESPN.
17:25Now, I still think that these two teams can meet in the Super Bowl.
17:29Bills were rolling before that brutal loss to New England.
17:33Let's start with Buffalo.
17:34What's your read on Josh Allen and the Bills headed into this game?
17:38You know, you follow this stuff like I do, and I've done all the reading this week,
17:42and I think the problem is with the defense.
17:44And the defense has got to play better.
17:46They are thin in the secondary.
17:48They've got injuries.
17:50Some of that showed up in that New England Patriots loss that you talked about.
17:54The defense has got to get better, and I'm hopeful for them that it will.
18:01Russo is playing out of his mind and is having as good a season as any defensive player in the
18:08National Football League.
18:09They've got some injuries up front, too.
18:11So, to me, the linebacker level is good.
18:14Secondary has got some issues.
18:16Defensive front is injured.
18:18Defense has got to get better.
18:20I'm sure you're like me.
18:21You feel like every time Josh Allen's got the ball, they're going to go down the field and score a
18:25touchdown.
18:26And I don't know that that's going to change, but if they're going to get to that Valentine's Day game,
18:31they've got to get better in their secondary.
18:33And this is going to be a big test against Matthew Stafford and Devontae Adams and Fukunakua.
18:38Yeah, he summed it up perfectly.
18:39And, frankly, I think on the back end, it's a bad matchup for him.
18:43And, listen, I still have high hopes, and I still live for Josh Allen.
18:46You know, they need to play better on defense, no question about it.
18:49And, Joe, I was all in on the Rams before the season.
18:52The talent, the coaching, the expectations sky high.
18:55They've been a little flat to start.
18:58Now, for the record, I still very much believe in this team.
19:02What have you seen from the Rams, and what lies ahead?
19:05Because that division has legitimately three Super Bowl contenders.
19:11Yeah, I mean, you know, they're a third-place team right now.
19:14And, you know, the way they started the year in Melbourne and the way they approached that,
19:19you know, Sean McVay, after the Giants win, kind of alluded to it and said,
19:23well, you've got a dumbass coach that, you know, overthinks how they should travel.
19:27And maybe they did the right thing.
19:29Maybe they didn't.
19:30Had they won, everybody would be doing it that way going forward.
19:32But they didn't, and they looked flat.
19:34They gave a lot to get Miles Garrett.
19:37He's played one game, does not have a tackle for them.
19:40And hopefully he comes back soon.
19:43It feels like they've got to build during the course of the regular season.
19:47Get Miles Garrett healthy.
19:49I think they're going to take their time with that.
19:51He did have surgery.
19:52I think they're going to be very careful with Aaron Donald and not wear him out in October
19:57and November.
19:59And they're going to ramp him up.
20:01It's kind of like, I don't know, it's like one of those teams that is good enough to survive the
20:08regular season.
20:09And if they're a wild card, who cares?
20:11They're going to be so talented by the end of the year if they're healthy and rolling.
20:16Wherever they play, they play.
20:18And their ultimate home game would be Super Bowl 61.
20:21So I see it like you do.
20:24But, you know, from coaching to personnel to the ability to evolve as the season goes,
20:31I think they're right where they probably should be.
20:35I loved everything about your broadcast Monday night in New Orleans.
20:38And I told Ani Bosa, we had him on the show after the schedule was released,
20:42I was a great choice with the Falcons and the Saints, Monday night football, Superdome,
20:47the history, the emotion, 20th anniversary of the Saints' return after Katrina.
20:52And look, doing national radio, Shine on Sports, Sirius XM, Mad Dog Sports Radio,
20:57I know how much that rivalry means.
21:00I think it's a top four rivalry in the NFL.
21:03You have teams that hate each other, fan bases that hate each other.
21:06That ambiance felt special and unbelievable.
21:11How would you describe what we witnessed?
21:13It was a great night until the visiting team came in and just whooped up on the Saints.
21:20They ruined the party.
21:22But that's football.
21:23That's sports.
21:24And I think we can all realize how Atlanta, with Michael Penix Jr. back in,
21:30they still are thin defensively but playing great for Jeff Ulbrich.
21:37That's a dangerous team.
21:38And then coming off the night before, watching Carolina do what they did to Detroit
21:43and the way their offense went up and down the field with a 300-yard passer
21:47and a receiver with 150 and a running back with 100-plus,
21:52they seem to be dangerous all of a sudden.
21:54So maybe the NFC South that last year had Carolina winning it at 8-9 on the season
22:00is a little tougher than we thought at the beginning of the year.
22:04And I think it's because of the top two teams in the division.
22:07I don't know a lot of teams that want to go play that run game with the Atlanta Falcons right
22:11now.
22:12And I don't know anybody that's signing up for dealing with Bryce Young in the past game of the Panthers.
22:18So maybe that division's a little better than recent memory.
22:22And I'm anxious to see how that unfolds as we go forward.
22:26I'm with you completely.
22:27And listen, I'm still not even overlooking or discounting the Saints in that picture.
22:32They didn't have a good game.
22:33They have a plethora of injuries.
22:34But I'm with you here on the South.
22:37You know, it's funny.
22:37Leading up to that game, I had Drake London on the show.
22:40And I asked him, I said, I need a thesaurus.
22:42How do you describe B. John Robinson?
22:44And he said, I'll give you words that aren't in the dictionary.
22:47LeBron and Shohei.
22:49How do you describe what you see with B. John Robinson?
22:55I mean, yeah, if you want to go with just athletes and running backs in his sport,
23:02I would say the cut and jump cut ability of Barry Sanders.
23:06Now that's NFL royalty and, you know, he's still 24 years old and he's got a ways to go.
23:13But at least physically and athletically, that's all there.
23:18And then the ability to catch passes like Marshall Falk out of the backfield,
23:22line him up in the slot.
23:23I remember Troy forever, you know, talking about Marshall Falk,
23:27maybe Thurman Thomas before him saying, you know, if he wasn't a running back
23:30and just wanted to be a slot receiver, he'd be one of the best slot receivers in the NFL.
23:34And, oh, by the way, he can rush for 200 yards in a game.
23:37So he's got everything you want.
23:40He's a wonderful human being on top of all that.
23:44So, yeah, I mean, if Drake's saying that, comparing him to two greats in other sports,
23:50I'll stick within the NFL.
23:52But anywhere you want to look, he is a unique individual, great person, great player.
23:58Yeah, that's high praise in terms of those running backs coming from you,
24:01and I agree completely.
24:03Now, you and Troy were on the call, obviously, for the Rams and the Giants
24:06when Jackson Dart got hurt.
24:08Ah, awful moment for a young quarterback and for this Giants team.
24:12And it's kind of amazing.
24:14We look at the Giants there in first place.
24:16I don't expect that to hold.
24:18But, my goodness, John Harbaugh.
24:21Take us through, Joe, as you see it, the impact that he's had on these Giants.
24:25I think it was the biggest offseason move in the NFL.
24:29I think he brings instant credibility, stability to that organization.
24:33He knows how to win.
24:36He is everything you want in a head coach.
24:39I think he demands accountability.
24:41You know, if Malik Neighbors is yelling for the ball in more vertical routes,
24:45I think John's got the ability with his resume to sit him down and go,
24:50hey, let's do this in a constructive way.
24:52It was sickening to see that with that Week 2 game at the Rams.
24:58It was like there was just a pall over the whole game the rest of the way.
25:03And Jackson Dart is one of the stars of the league.
25:06He loves the game.
25:07He loves to play.
25:09You know, I think just by virtue of what he ended up having done to his knee
25:13and then they basically had to rip the uniform off him that night,
25:17he was trying to get back in the ballgame, tells you all you need to know.
25:20I think they've got special young talent on that team.
25:23They just got to keep those guys healthy.
25:25And, you know, we could go on and on with the J.J. McCarthy trade.
25:29And what's that going to mean going forward?
25:31But for that young man, you just hope for the best with the recovery.
25:36I wouldn't bet against him.
25:38But that's a big deal.
25:40Listen, before the season, I loved the Cowboys.
25:44And I thought it's not like, you know, offseason hype or hyperbole for Dallas.
25:48I really thought they did a lot of smart things.
25:50Joe, I kind of still do.
25:52And the defense hasn't looked great.
25:54But love Prescott.
25:56Love what CeeDee Lamb did.
25:57That's the kind of game against Houston historically over the last 30 years they lose.
26:02I agree.
26:03Right?
26:04I mean, doesn't this feel a little different even at 2-2 for the Cowboys?
26:08Yeah, I mean, they're injury-wracked in their secondary.
26:13I mean, everybody's talked about it.
26:14And they're in a new defensive system.
26:16And that takes time.
26:17It takes time.
26:18And what they have to hope is here early in the year, they can just, you know, win the
26:23scoreboard battle with their offense.
26:24And I'm with you.
26:26That is a game.
26:28Well, they did it the week before against the Ravens.
26:31They should have won that game, could have won that.
26:33Let's say they could have won that game very, I don't want to say easily.
26:38But they could have won the game, maybe should have won the game.
26:40Then they go to Houston, and that's a game they don't win, and they win.
26:44And that did feel different to me.
26:47Houston got on top.
26:48They go down the field.
26:50CeeDee Lamb all the way down.
26:52He's got 19 catches, whatever it was.
26:55He has the ability to uncover no matter who's across from him.
27:01And Dak is seeing everything, delivering the ball.
27:04I'm with you.
27:05I'm not off the Dallas Cowboys at all.
27:07And I think they've just got to kind of weather this storm with the injuries defensively.
27:12But my God, every team has just got a paragraph of guys that are hurt.
27:16You know, there's 15 guys on the injury report for the Bills that they're looking at right
27:22now.
27:22And it's October.
27:24So, you know, it's a lot for these teams to battle through these injuries.
27:30I'm with you.
27:31I'm not off the Cowboys at all.
27:33Kansas City's 4-0.
27:35You had them week number one.
27:36And honestly, when I saw that on the Monday Night Football schedule, I started, I'm like,
27:39is Mahomes going to be ready?
27:41Of course!
27:42It's Patrick Mahomes.
27:43He'll find a way to be out there.
27:44And every week, he just keeps getting better.
27:47Andy Reid, I think he's an all-timer.
27:50Mount Rushmore head coach.
27:51Kenneth Walker doing an amazing job.
27:53Just survived the Raiders.
27:55Are they the team to beat in the AFC?
27:58I think the Jags have been unbelievable.
28:01And if I was doing a power ranking, I'd put them number one.
28:044-0 is 4-0.
28:06Are the Chiefs the Chiefs once again?
28:09I think with regard to the Jags, I think you've got to get to the postseason and prove it.
28:14But yes, they can beat you a lot of different ways.
28:17Their defense is rolling.
28:19A lot of penalties.
28:20But they can throw it.
28:21They can run it.
28:22The quarterback looks fantastic.
28:24The head coach is really good.
28:26So yeah, I might put them number one, too.
28:29But then you've got the Chiefs, and you've got all that success, and you've got a healthy
28:33Patrick Mahomes.
28:35I don't disagree.
28:36Just with the pedigree and with the postseason success that they've had, Kenneth Walker should
28:41be in the MVP conversation right now with what he's been able to do.
28:45And I've changed the dynamic of that offense.
28:47But it's still Patrick Mahomes, and he is getting healthier, seemingly, as we go, stronger
28:53as we go.
28:54And I would say those are the top two with Buffalo right behind and needing to iron things
29:00out defensively.
29:01So yeah, we've got Jacksonville later in the year.
29:04I think we've got them against the Steelers down there.
29:08I believe that could be right.
29:10That could be wrong.
29:11But yeah, I'm anxious to see them.
29:14They got to the postseason last year.
29:16Bill's got them.
29:17We'll see what they can do.
29:19Clearly, they're the class of the AFC South.
29:22Four weeks into the season, give us a team that has surprised you in a good way, a great
29:27way.
29:27Flip side, a team that has been perhaps your biggest disappointment or surprised you in
29:33a negative way.
29:33I mean, the negative one is easier to probably answer, and that's Green Bay, and it's easy
29:39to understand.
29:40I mean, when you're offensive line, you're signing guys off the street that are going
29:43off the street right into the starting lineup.
29:45That's not good.
29:47And again, I mean, I think there's got to be a big study done, and this is for another
29:52podcast, another time.
29:53But the way these teams practice with what's allowed in the CBA, with how these teams approach
30:01the preseason, and then the season starts, and it's like, wham, and these guys are just
30:05they're not holding up.
30:08I don't know that these bodies are ready to start the year to get through healthy.
30:13So it's a problem because we want to see the best against the best, and it's just not.
30:20The good?
30:21I think Chicago.
30:22I think so.
30:23Let's stay in the division.
30:23I think Chicago and what they've done, they lost that crushing game at home to Minnesota.
30:28Then Case Keenum goes out and takes apart the Eagles the next week, and we got to watch
30:33that.
30:33And then, you know, they're good enough with Baygent against the Jets, and I think we're
30:41seeing just how good of a head coach and play caller Ben Johnson is.
30:44So they're weathering the storm without their star quarterback who's on the cover of the Madden
30:50game, and they're going plowing straight forward.
30:54So they're doing it with a ground game.
30:55I think we all, and I'm guilty of it too, you think Ben Johnson, trick plays, gadget stuff,
31:01pass, pass, pass.
31:02He is a run-first guy, and they can withstand the injury to Caleb because they can run the
31:09ball.
31:09And with those two running backs, I know Swift had the fumble.
31:12With those two running backs, they're a dangerous team.
31:16And I think Dennis Allen's got the defense playing really well.
31:18So it's maybe a cop-out because I'm staying within the same division, but I'll throw Chicago
31:24on that list.
31:25I love that.
31:25And they're stealing team souls.
31:28You're 100% right, the way they're running the ball.
31:30And listen, you and Troy have that right tone and demeanor with Case Keenum.
31:34It was appreciation and amazement in that game.
31:37And it was terrific, wasn't it?
31:39I mean, that's why you love sports, that kind of performance from Case Keenum.
31:43And thoughtful answers before the game and thoughtful answers after the game.
31:47I mean, that's not his job, but it makes you love the guy.
31:52And we've covered some big games of his.
31:54We got to do the Minneapolis Miracle.
31:56And it was the first thing he said when he got on our chat.
32:00And, you know, he was very open about what he was trying to do and talking about being
32:05more of a coach player instead of a player coach.
32:08And his wife's okay with him going into coaching.
32:10And he's hugging his kids.
32:11And I don't know.
32:12It was a great story that night.
32:14And, oh, by the way, not to be Berman, but, and, oh, by the way, he played great.
32:19So there was a lot to celebrate that night.
32:23It was fun to be there for sure.
32:25All right.
32:26Last one for you, Joe.
32:27Because all Yankees fans, myself included, we're feeling it today.
32:31And, obviously, you know, we've talked about this before.
32:33I miss Joe Buck as the soundtrack for Yankee baseball in October, October baseball in general.
32:39My all-time favorite Joe Buck Yankee call.
32:43This was my all-time favorite moment as a Yankee fan.
32:481996, the World Series, game number four, back at the track, at the wall.
32:54We are tied.
32:57There it is, Joe.
32:58There it is.
32:59Lairitz off of Waller's.
33:00Because at that moment, I had never seen a championship.
33:03I knew the Yankee was going to win.
33:05And you had the right tone of that call.
33:07Well, I just remember.
33:08And then we go through that.
33:09Then Lairitz gets around the bases.
33:11And then Tim, we've probably talked about this before.
33:13But Tim McCarver was so good with doing the pitch by pitch.
33:18And he'd go, you never get beat with your second best pitch.
33:21And it was fastball, foul ball, fastball, foul ball, fastball, slider, gone.
33:28And then it was just, you know, that was the beauty of it.
33:31Or whatever pitch he threw him.
33:33That was, everybody's like, what's your favorite?
33:35To be 27 and sitting in the Bronx before game one.
33:39And to be 27 and sitting in the Bronx for game six,
33:43after the Braves took the first two games of that series on the road.
33:48That was like, wow.
33:50This is as big as broadcasting gets.
33:54This is as bright as the lights can shine.
33:57And that's right there.
34:00That's at the top of the list.
34:02You never forget your first.
34:03You can fill in the blank.
34:05First whatever.
34:06You never forget your first.
34:08And for my first to be in the Bronx and for them to win
34:11and their return to greatness is, it was a gift.
34:14Joe, you're the best.
34:15We appreciate the time as always.
34:17Have fun on Monday night.
34:18And we'll do it again real soon.
34:20All right, buddy.
34:20Thanks, Adam.
34:21Appreciate it.
34:23Coming up, how much pressure are the Cowboys under tonight
34:26with the atrocious, winless, hapless Bucs visiting AT&T Stadium?
34:30And are the rival Eagles waving the white flag?
34:33Next on Shine Time.
34:36Understanding we've got a team coming here winless,
34:39how desperate they're going to be.
34:40And it's the NFL and the parity of it
34:42and just knowing that we've got to go prove it again.
34:44Nobody cares about the win that happened last Sunday.
34:46It's about what we do now.
34:48And it's about us putting out our best version of ourselves
34:50come Thursday.
34:51That, of course, Dak Prescott earlier this week
34:53out of the Cowboys welcoming the winless Buccaneers
34:56to Dallas tonight.
34:59Listen, you can't call it a must win,
35:02but it certainly feels like you better not lose.
35:05Let me tell you something.
35:06I think the Dallas Cowboys last week,
35:08we talked to Joe Buck about this,
35:10turned the corner.
35:11That's the kind of game against the Texans historically they lose.
35:16I expect the Dallas Cowboys tonight to dominate.
35:20I expect them to absolutely club the Buccaneers.
35:24I think the Bucs have no shot in this one.
35:27I think Prescott is going to dominate.
35:29I think he's going to throw for 300 yards.
35:31I think CeeDee Lamb's going to have a monster game.
35:34I think George Pickens is going to have a monster game.
35:36I think Javante Williams is going to absolutely run wild
35:39and control the clock.
35:41And I give the Bucs no shot.
35:43Jalen Daniels, rookie quarterback, undrafted free agent,
35:46making his first road star.
35:49This is why.
35:50And I never like to pick a Thursday night team
35:52as a survivor pick.
35:54I love the Cowboys tonight.
35:56I love them to win.
35:57I love them to cover the eight and a half point spread.
35:59And I firmly believe that we will be talking glowingly
36:04about Dallas handling success and their business
36:07and prosperity on Shine Time tomorrow.
36:10It's as simple as that.
36:12Lay the eight and a half.
36:13Prescott dominates.
36:15I can't stress enough how much I love the Dallas Cowboys.
36:19In two weeks, Cowboys are going to face the Eagles
36:22for the first time this season.
36:23Philly's going to look a lot different
36:25after that sudden retirement of Lane Johnson.
36:27And yesterday's trade,
36:30that broke my brain.
36:32It sent the pro bowler Cam Juergens
36:34at a 2027 seventh-round pick
36:36to the Ravens
36:38for a 2027 fifth-round pick
36:41and a 2028 second-round selection.
36:46If you're an Eagles fan,
36:48if you're a sports geek like me,
36:51this is what you live for.
36:53I think this is one of those
36:56win-win-lose-lose trades.
37:00Stay with me on this.
37:01I want you to look at the Eagles' offensive line,
37:03what it was in week number one.
37:05I want you to look at what the Eagles' offensive line
37:08is going to be this week
37:09going up against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
37:12The Eagles are broken, right?
37:15Lane Johnson retires.
37:17Obviously, we're in support of him,
37:19and we hope that he's doing okay.
37:22Now, obviously, he's a Mount Rushmore,
37:25Philadelphia Eagle.
37:27We've been through that.
37:29Dickerson getting hurt was a big deal,
37:31and they just traded their center.
37:34Is this Philly waving the white flag?
37:37No.
37:38This is Philadelphia being 9,000 steps ahead.
37:41The offensive line that's going to see the field
37:43against Jacksonville,
37:44and the Jags are going to absolutely beat the hell
37:46out of the Philadelphia Eagles,
37:47this is not a real offensive line.
37:50You know what?
37:51Last week, they didn't have a real offensive line either.
37:53Now, they're not going to have a real offensive line,
37:55and they're going to have an extra second-round pick
37:58with an extra first-round pick
38:01because of the A.J. Brown trade.
38:03Extra picks in 2027, 2028,
38:06when they might be in the quarterback business.
38:08We're allowed to have this conversation.
38:10And what does the NFL draft?
38:12It's the Howie Roseman Invitational.
38:14Nobody drafts or works the process
38:17making trades better than this guy, Howie Roseman.
38:20Now, this is not the Eagles giving up.
38:23This is the Eagles looking at it objectively,
38:26saying,
38:27this is what we have,
38:29this is where we are,
38:30and we're going to also simultaneously,
38:33while we're trying to win every single game,
38:35keep the eye on the prize for the future,
38:38which could be, this is me talking,
38:41their next quarterback.
38:42Jalen Hurts was terrible in the last couple of games.
38:46The line's been terrible.
38:47Saquon is hurt.
38:48His backup is hurt.
38:50Devontae Smith is hurt.
38:52Lane Johnson retired.
38:53Juergens is gone.
38:55So, this is an impossible spot here
38:58for the Philadelphia Eagles.
38:59Now, for Baltimore, listen,
39:02they just put two centers on injured reserve.
39:06They're going to Atlanta,
39:08which, by the way,
39:08I think they're going to lose,
39:10even if they had Lamar Jackson,
39:12and we don't know if he's going to play it.
39:13I don't think it's likely.
39:15I would have still picked Atlanta no matter what.
39:17So, Baltimore is sitting here saying,
39:20we have Derrick Henry,
39:21who's not getting any younger.
39:23We have Lamar Jackson,
39:24a new head coach,
39:25a new offensive play caller.
39:27We have to try and win as many games now.
39:30So, Baltimore is thinking very short term
39:33with a brilliant, aggressive general manager
39:35in Eric DaCosta,
39:37and I think it could pay off for them
39:39because they need help on the offensive line
39:41for a team that needs to run the ball
39:43and they're getting a pro bowler.
39:44I like this more for Philly, though.
39:46I think it's smarter, long-term, big picture.
39:49Because I don't know if Nick Sirianni
39:51is going to be there in a couple years.
39:52I don't know if, I mean,
39:53Sean Mannion has no shot.
39:54And who knows about Jalen Hurts?
39:57Howie Roseman, playing next-level chess.
40:00If you're an Eagles fan,
40:02the team is broken,
40:03you're on a road to nowhere,
40:04you're going to get smashed in London,
40:05going to be an international incident,
40:07going to have to call the authorities.
40:09But I think this is next-level here
40:11by the general manager.
40:13That's a show.
40:13If you miss any portion of the show,
40:15just do what I do
