00:00Shine time on a Friday.
00:02Should we be concerned after seeing Fernando Mendoza throw a pick six last night?
00:07I'll tell you why C.J. Stroud is the most important player in the league this season.
00:13More quarterback talk.
00:15Brock Purdy, Bo Nix, Geno Smith, Drew Aller,
00:19Drew Burrow running out of patience on a Super Bowl return,
00:23and are Jamar Chase and T. Higgins the undisputed best wideout duo in the league?
00:31Garrett Cole dominates.
00:32Jacob DeGrom makes history.
00:34All next on Shine Time.
00:36Don't stop.
00:38Keep it coming, baby.
00:40Don't stop.
00:43Are those going to stay there in this game,
00:46or are you kind of a little bit more complex than ever?
00:49I would say,
00:53I would classify jitters as over-the-top.
00:55Evidently, you're always feeling your nervous system activating.
00:58However, today, I thought I saw it very well,
01:00and evidently there was one unfortunate play,
01:04but even that play, I thought I saw it well,
01:08just didn't make the right throw.
01:10That, of course, is Fernando Mendoza discussing his first NFL interception,
01:15which is also his first pick six.
01:17That was officially his welcome-to-the-NFL moment,
01:21and the optics on it, not pretty.
01:24I mean, it's a Joe Buck, Troy Aikman, ESPN special, national TV.
01:29He's trying to check down, throw over the middle.
01:31Bam!
01:32It's a pick six.
01:33Let me tell you something.
01:34I think last night was another example of why Fernando Mendoza should start week one.
01:42I thought the way he responded after that pick six was absolutely sensational.
01:48The way he was able to calm his nerves.
01:51The way Max Crosby went right over to him and said,
01:54Kid, you're going to be okay.
01:57I absolutely love what Clint Kubiak had to say after the game,
02:01because it was a perfect opportunity,
02:03and the messaging has been,
02:05Kirk Cousins, veteran quarterback, Mendoza needs time.
02:08But after the game, Clint Kubiak said,
02:12no decision has been made at the quarterback position.
02:15Whoa!
02:16That's some news we could use,
02:18especially someone like me,
02:19who has been saying since the Raiders got the number one pick in the draft,
02:23it's got to be Mendoza,
02:24and Mendoza has to start week number one.
02:27And you saw this past week,
02:29Fernando Mendoza took reps with the first team for the first time.
02:32You saw Fernando Mendoza throw that first interception,
02:35and guess what?
02:36He was able to get off the mat and play solid football
02:39for a first half in a preseason game against the Houston Texans.
02:43And when Clint Kubiak said,
02:45we have another week,
02:46no one is getting handed any job,
02:48that to me was noteworthy here.
02:51Because to me,
02:52what I see on this screen,
02:54nothing but positives.
02:56Seriously.
02:57And I get it.
02:58Numbers not greats.
02:59And Mendoza last year at Indiana
03:01literally pitched the perfect game,
03:03perfect season,
03:04one of the great single seasons,
03:05Horatio Alger story
03:07for Indiana,
03:08for Mendoza,
03:09out of nowhere,
03:10Heisman Trophy,
03:11wins a natty,
03:12one of the great single seasons
03:14in the history of college football,
03:16one of the great stories
03:17in the history of college athletics.
03:19Fernando Mendoza's ready to rock and roll.
03:21And what Kubiak said postgame to me
03:25was noteworthy.
03:26As important
03:28or more important
03:29than anything that we saw
03:31when you take a look
03:32at the actual game.
03:34I want you to take a look
03:35at the Raiders'
03:37first five games
03:38of the season.
03:39And it starts with
03:40Miami.
03:41And I want you to stare at this
03:43as I talk for a second.
03:45Let me paint the picture for you.
03:48Dolphins lead
03:49Vegas,
03:50in Vegas,
03:517-6
03:52at halftime.
03:55Kirk Cousins gets the start.
03:57The offense is stuck in the mud.
03:58Cousins has been
04:00one of the worst quarterbacks
04:01in the NFL
04:02the last two years.
04:03If I'm Clint Kubiak,
04:05would I go to the bullpen
04:06at halftime?
04:07Not only would I do that,
04:09I'm demanding it.
04:10I'm calling for it.
04:11And even beyond
04:13the optics
04:14and who gets the start
04:15week number one,
04:16just because you're
04:17the starting quarterback
04:18and you lead the first team
04:19offense on the field
04:20to start,
04:21doesn't mean you finish
04:22the game.
04:23Fernando Mendoza
04:24should absolutely
04:26be a heartbeat away
04:27the second he's ready,
04:29the second this offense
04:31sputters.
04:32And look,
04:33I think the Raiders
04:34with their offseason
04:35with Lindenbaum at center,
04:37keeping Max Crosby,
04:38the additions they made
04:39on defense,
04:40with the great
04:42Clint Kubiak
04:42coaching the team,
04:44I look at these
04:45first five games,
04:46I see three and two.
04:48And I think they can
04:49split in the division games.
04:51I think they can
04:52absolutely beat a
04:53banged up New Orleans
04:54Saints team.
04:54And listen,
04:56last year,
04:56a terrible,
04:57poorly coached
04:58Raider team
04:59won week one
05:00of the season,
05:00got a jog
05:00to the Rolodex
05:01to remember this,
05:02in New England.
05:03So can the Raiders
05:05this year go to
05:06New England and win?
05:07Why the hell not?
05:09Listen,
05:09I think Mendoza's ready.
05:11I think Kubiak's
05:12commentary was
05:13unbelievable.
05:14I think the fact
05:15that he threw
05:15that interception
05:16and recovered
05:17from it brilliantly
05:18was just
05:19ridiculously impressive.
05:21So I'm not
05:22sitting here
05:23backing down.
05:23In fact,
05:24it went noted to me
05:25that Clint Kubiak
05:27not only didn't back down,
05:28he opened the door.
05:30So even if
05:31Kirk Cousins starts
05:32week number one,
05:33I want to see
05:34Fernando Mendoza play
05:36if, in fact,
05:39the Raiders offense
05:39is struggling.
05:40By the way,
05:42I demanded this
05:43last year
05:43from the Giants
05:44if Russell Wilson
05:45struggled
05:46in week number one
05:47against the Washington
05:49Commanders.
05:49Play Jackson Dart.
05:51I would have started
05:51Dart originally.
05:52And obviously
05:53they didn't
05:54and they didn't
05:54start him in the
05:55Dallas game
05:55and Brian Dayball
05:56got fired.
05:57So if I am
05:58and remember
05:59who Clint Kubiak
06:00is working for,
06:01the son of Al Davis
06:03from Mark Davis.
06:04Just win, baby.
06:06At some point
06:07for the Raiders,
06:08Mendoza,
06:09taste of the franchise,
06:11shiny new toy,
06:12you gotta win games.
06:14Mendoza is everything
06:15and gives the Raiders
06:17the best chance
06:18to win.
06:18And based upon
06:20what Kubiak said
06:21post-game,
06:22I'm more convinced
06:23than ever
06:24he knows it.
06:25Then you have
06:26C.J. Stroud
06:27who completed
06:27four of six passes
06:28for 27 yards
06:29last night.
06:30And that's a good thing
06:31because C.J. Stroud,
06:33this is his first time
06:34he's been on a football field
06:35since he threw up
06:37all over himself
06:38in the single worst
06:39playoff game
06:40we've ever witnessed
06:41a quarterback play.
06:42If they would have
06:43punted on third down,
06:44taken a knee
06:45on first or second down,
06:46Houston Texans
06:47would have won that game
06:48and ultimately
06:49gone to the Super Bowl.
06:51So I don't think
06:52it's hyperbole
06:52to say this.
06:54The single most
06:55important player
06:56in the NFL this season
06:58is C.J. Stroud.
06:59I think C.J. Stroud,
07:01if he is competent,
07:03the Houston Texans
07:04have a golden opportunity
07:05to play in the L.A. Super Bowl.
07:07If C.J. Stroud is bad,
07:09I think that this team
07:10is going to be toast
07:11and they're not going
07:12to be able to advance
07:13in the postseason.
07:14I really think
07:15that the offensive line
07:16is going to be improved.
07:18Three new starters.
07:19I don't think
07:20David Montgomery
07:21is necessarily great
07:22at the running back position,
07:24but he is a monster upgrade.
07:26I think Woody Marks
07:27is a perfect complimentary back.
07:29You saw him show some pop
07:31and show some sizzle
07:32last night.
07:33Nico Collins is a superstar.
07:35Love Nick Caley
07:35calling the plays.
07:37And again,
07:37let's not bury the lead.
07:39Texans have a championship defense.
07:42The single best defense
07:43in the National Football League.
07:45You can't waste it
07:47with C.J. Stroud
07:48hurting the club.
07:50Now, obviously,
07:51three years for C.J. Stroud.
07:53Year one,
07:54arguably the best rookie season
07:55by a quarterback
07:56in the history of the league.
07:57Year two, year three,
07:59he regressed.
08:00The Texans have not given him
08:02a contract extension
08:03because they want to see,
08:04especially on the heels
08:05of what happened in the playoffs,
08:07what he brings to the table
08:09for year number four.
08:10If C.J. Stroud protects the ball,
08:13Texans are going to be great.
08:15If C.J. Stroud turns it over,
08:17then you need to consider
08:18going to the bullpen
08:19with Davis Mills.
08:21If C.J. Stroud is great,
08:23this team's going to
08:24hoist the Lombardi trophy.
08:25That's what we're talking about
08:27and thinking about here
08:28when it comes to the Houston Texans.
08:30I don't think there is a player
08:32in the league
08:33that impacts a team's range
08:36as much as C.J. Stroud.
08:38And also, he's playing
08:39for his career
08:40and the bag
08:41and his next paycheck.
08:42So I really think
08:43at the end of the day,
08:44this is not hyperbole.
08:46And I believe in C.J. Stroud.
08:48C.J. Stroud is everything
08:50for the Houston Texans.
08:53Yeah, I want to meet Brock Purdy.
08:56I want to shake his hand.
08:57Hopefully Kyle will
08:58introduce me to him.
09:00Is there anything in particular
09:01about Brock Purdy's game
09:02that you appreciate from afar?
09:05Yeah, just how good he is.
09:07You know, his timing,
09:10his decision-making,
09:11his accuracy.
09:13You know, just how cool he is.
09:19You know, how cool he plays.
09:21Well, Jim Harbaugh
09:22did get to meet Brock Purdy
09:23last night.
09:24Purdy started for the Niners
09:25in their second preseason game.
09:26And he was ready,
09:28Purdy was,
09:29to Brock and roll.
09:32And it was kind of a big deal
09:33considering all the chaos
09:34and nonsense
09:35and injuries
09:35and guys who haven't
09:36been available
09:37and all the drama
09:39in the offseason
09:40and the summertime
09:40for the San Francisco 49ers.
09:42How about John Stribling,
09:44the rookie,
09:45the first pick
09:46in the second round
09:46of the NFL draft.
09:48Four catches,
09:4946 yards,
09:50and a couple of preseason games.
09:51That, to me,
09:52was encouraging.
09:53Debo Samuel,
09:54he got involved last night,
09:56catching passes once again
09:57from Brock Purdy.
09:58That was encouraging.
10:00Niners also got good news
10:01on George Kittle,
10:03who, according to our friend
10:04Adam Schefter from ESPN,
10:06Kittle has a great opportunity
10:08now to start and play
10:10in week number one
10:11in Australia
10:12against the Rams.
10:14Listen,
10:14this is great stuff.
10:16The 49ers have been
10:18so problematic
10:19and chaotic
10:20from all the Iuke nonsense
10:22to Shanahan
10:24and the car accident
10:25and when he couldn't coach
10:26at the beginning
10:26of training camp
10:27to Nick Bosa
10:29not practicing,
10:30Christian McCaffrey
10:30not practicing,
10:31and Pierce all out
10:32for the air.
10:32So, how about Brock Purdy
10:36representing the calm,
10:38the steady?
10:39And if you're a fan
10:40of the 49ers
10:41and you've had to deal
10:42with all these questions
10:43and issues
10:44and ambiguity
10:45and everything
10:47that goes into the mix,
10:48having this last night
10:50and seeing Brock Purdy
10:51in action
10:52with Kyle Shanahan
10:53on the sideline
10:54with that great new mustache,
10:55by the way,
10:56you just have to feel inspired
10:58because at some point
11:00you're going to get
11:01Christian McCaffrey
11:02in a real game,
11:03George Kittle
11:04in a real game,
11:05Nick Bosa
11:05in a real game,
11:06Mike Evans
11:07in a real game.
11:08The talent is there.
11:10The coaching
11:11is there.
11:12There's been a lot
11:13of bad luck,
11:15bad planning
11:16when it comes
11:16to the San Francisco
11:1749ers,
11:18but don't get it
11:20twisted here.
11:21San Francisco
11:22absolutely,
11:23when healthy,
11:24has a shot
11:24for everything.
11:26Brock Purdy
11:26represented
11:27some pretty amazing calm
11:28when you take a look
11:29at what transpired.
11:30And I thought
11:31when you see Brock Purdy
11:32last night,
11:34these numbers,
11:35the feel,
11:36the flow.
11:37If you're a Niders fan,
11:38you want the season
11:39to start right about now
11:40because you feel
11:41like you're ready
11:42to Brock
11:43and roll.
11:45Bo Dix returns
11:45to action tonight
11:46for the first time
11:47since his ankle injury
11:49back in January.
11:50And his teammates,
11:51Evan Ingram,
11:52is excited.
11:54Just the energy
11:55he brings,
11:55the aura that he has
11:57and he brings to the field,
11:58the camp that he's having,
11:59the throws that he's making.
12:01And obviously,
12:02you know,
12:02we all know
12:03what he's been through.
12:04So I'm definitely
12:05excited for him.
12:06He's been,
12:06you know,
12:07great,
12:08great guy,
12:08great teammate
12:09ever since I walked
12:09in this building.
12:10My relationship
12:11has grown
12:11and very mature
12:13and the sky's the limit
12:14for him.
12:14And I think,
12:15yeah,
12:16I think we're all excited
12:16to see Tim back out there.
12:19I don't want to be subject
12:21to hyperbole
12:22and exaggeration.
12:24This, to me,
12:25bar none,
12:26is the biggest thing
12:28to look out for
12:29this entire preseason
12:30in the NFL.
12:32Bo Dix returning
12:34to action tonight
12:35for the first time
12:36since two ankle surgeries.
12:40Remember,
12:41broke his ankle
12:42after the Bills game
12:43in the divisional round,
12:44couldn't play
12:44on championship Sunday
12:46and then needed
12:47cleanup surgery
12:48in April.
12:51So,
12:51the fact that
12:52Bo Dix is going
12:54to play,
12:54play in a few drives,
12:5714 snaps,
12:58I think this is
12:59absolutely terrific.
13:01It feels like
13:02everything.
13:03Bo Dix is a terrific
13:05athlete,
13:05super smart,
13:06makes every throw,
13:07has had this
13:08unbelievable clutch gene
13:09college,
13:11first two years
13:12in the NFL.
13:13Sean Payton loves him.
13:14He's got a ton
13:15of swagger,
13:16Bo Dix does.
13:17Listen,
13:18I think Bo Dix,
13:20if he's healthy,
13:21this Bronco team
13:22is capable
13:23of winning
13:24the division again
13:24and making a deep run
13:25and playing
13:26on championship Sunday.
13:27If we watch
13:28Bo Dix tonight
13:30and he's unsure
13:31physically,
13:32mentally,
13:34hobbling,
13:35limping,
13:36there's going to be
13:37cause for concern.
13:38So,
13:39I've been one
13:40of those talking heads
13:41that has kind of
13:42forgotten all about
13:43the Denver Broncos.
13:44And I love what
13:45they've done
13:46in the offseason.
13:46I think Jalen Waddell
13:47is going to be
13:48remarkable.
13:49And Sean Payton's
13:50talked about
13:50how he's going to
13:51be on the outside,
13:53be on the inside.
13:53If you have a fantasy
13:55pick this year,
13:56draft Jalen Waddell.
13:57He's going to catch
13:57100 passes.
13:58The Waddell-Sutton
13:59combination is great.
14:01Devin Ingram at tight end.
14:02The offensive line
14:03is strong.
14:03They have three backs
14:04who you love.
14:05And they've got
14:06an unbelievable defense,
14:07incredible on every
14:08single level.
14:09You look at
14:10Patrick Sertan,
14:12Nick Benito,
14:13Zach Allen,
14:14under Vance Joseph's
14:15watchful eye.
14:16This team has
14:17all the pieces
14:19to win a title.
14:20And I'm a huge
14:21Sean Payton fan.
14:22I think he's a
14:22Hall of Fame coach.
14:23One of my favorite
14:24coaches in the NFL
14:25in the last 30 years.
14:26If Bo Nix is compromised,
14:28they're dead on arrival.
14:29And I won't pick them
14:30when we lock in our picks
14:31in a few weeks
14:32here on Shine Time.
14:33I won't pick Denver
14:34to even make the playoffs.
14:35For me,
14:36they've been the
14:37forgotten team
14:38because of Bo Nix's
14:40ankle.
14:40And I don't really
14:41talk about them
14:42in high regard
14:43because their quarterback
14:44has been compromised.
14:46He's clearly ahead
14:47of schedule.
14:48And they're confident
14:49enough that they're
14:50going to play him
14:51in the preseason
14:53and play him tonight.
14:54So I think this feels
14:56like everything.
14:57As all the developments
14:59in preseason football,
15:01Bo Nix playing
15:02is a massive sign.
15:04Bo Nix surviving
15:06tonight is even bigger.
15:08And all I want to do,
15:09I don't care about
15:10a stat line.
15:11I don't care about
15:12touchdowns,
15:13interceptions,
15:14completion percentage.
15:15I want to watch
15:17Bo Nix tonight
15:18and I want to believe
15:19that he's going to be
15:21ready to beat
15:22Kansas City
15:23and Patrick Mahomes
15:24week one of the
15:25NFL season.
15:26I want to watch
15:27Bo Nix and believe
15:29that he's going to be
15:30100% healthy
15:32for week number one.
15:33If I feel that way
15:35after tonight,
15:36we'll pick the Denver
15:37Broncos
15:38to make the playoffs.
15:39Sticking with quarterbacks,
15:41Geno Smith
15:42is going to start
15:43for the Jets
15:44tonight in Pittsburgh.
15:46And honestly,
15:47I'm really fired up.
15:50Seriously.
15:51Geno Smith
15:52didn't play last week.
15:53It was a bit of a surprise.
15:54He was a little nicked
15:55and Kate Klubnick
15:56got the nod
15:56for Aaron Glenn's team.
15:58But I go back
15:59to when Brian Costello
16:00from the New York Post
16:01broke the story
16:02here on Shine Time
16:03on our first ever show,
16:05by the way,
16:06that Geno Smith
16:07was getting traded
16:07back to the Jets.
16:09And I thought
16:10it was unbelievable.
16:11Geno Smith,
16:13to me,
16:13right guy,
16:14right time.
16:15Geno Smith,
16:16forget about the Raiders,
16:17right?
16:17Everything was a mess
16:18for the Raiders last year.
16:20Geno Smith,
16:21Seattle version,
16:23that's the guy
16:23you're going to get
16:24this year.
16:24And I love
16:25the Jets' weapons.
16:26I love the energy
16:27for the Jets.
16:28And I'm excited
16:29to see Geno Smith
16:30under center.
16:31I think this is going
16:33to be refreshing,
16:34redemption.
16:35I think Geno's
16:36going to be strong.
16:37And listen,
16:38forget about preseason
16:39football when it comes
16:40to Geno.
16:41He's been around the block.
16:41I think he's going
16:43to be ready to win
16:44week one in Tennessee,
16:46week two at home
16:47against Green Bay,
16:48a defense that won't
16:49have Micah Parsons.
16:51I'm genuinely excited
16:53to see Geno Smith
16:54in a Jets uniform
16:55once again.
16:56As for the Steelers,
16:58no Aaron Rodgers
16:58tonight,
16:59no Mason Rudolph
17:00tonight.
17:00And the reps are going
17:02to be split between
17:032025 six-rounder.
17:04Former Ohio State star
17:06Will Howard.
17:07And this year's third
17:08rounder, Drew Aller.
17:10And it's interesting.
17:11If you know anyone
17:13who's ever went
17:14to Penn State,
17:15you know a Drew Aller
17:17truther.
17:17And everyone
17:18and their mother,
17:19including mine,
17:20I talked to her today,
17:21just loves what Drew
17:23Aller's brought to the
17:24table in the preseason.
17:25See, here's the thing
17:26about Drew Aller.
17:28I didn't like him
17:29in college.
17:30I don't think
17:30he played well
17:31in college.
17:32This is why I picked
17:33against Penn State
17:34every single year.
17:35And by the way,
17:36I was right.
17:36And he helped get
17:37James Franklin fired
17:38when it was all
17:39said and done.
17:40But I have so much
17:41respect for Mike
17:43McCarthy,
17:43who is a quarterback
17:45whisperer.
17:46And he picked
17:48Drew Aller
17:49in the third round.
17:51And if you're going
17:51to pick Drew Aller
17:52in the third round,
17:53that means Mike
17:55McCarthy thinks
17:56that Drew Aller
17:57potentially could be
17:59his starting quarterback
18:01next season
18:01after Aaron Rodgers
18:02retires.
18:04Also,
18:04and I've talked
18:05to Rodgers about this,
18:07talked to our friend
18:07Rich Gannon about this,
18:08I've talked to Joe
18:09Montana about this,
18:11no one in the NFL
18:12is better in terms
18:14of developing
18:15young quarterbacks
18:17and day two,
18:18day three draft picks
18:20than Mike McCarthy.
18:21So I was not a Drew
18:23Aller fan in college.
18:24I didn't believe in him
18:25at Penn State
18:26and I was right.
18:27I didn't love him
18:27in the draft.
18:28When McCarthy picked him,
18:29I said,
18:30okay,
18:31Mike McCarthy's famous
18:32quarterback school
18:33is ridiculously amazing.
18:35It's ridiculously incredible.
18:37He's going to develop
18:38Drew Aller.
18:39I'm not ready to take
18:40the cheese quite yet
18:41on Aller as the guy,
18:44but here's a prediction
18:45for you.
18:45Aller plays well tonight.
18:47Will Howard doesn't.
18:49Rodgers is going
18:50to be the starter.
18:51Mason Rudolph,
18:52you need to keep
18:52on the team
18:53because he's been there
18:54and, you know,
18:55he's navigated the waters
18:56of going on the road
18:58in the division.
18:58Heaven forbid,
18:59if you're a Steeler fan,
19:00something happens
19:00to Rodgers early
19:02in the season.
19:03Mason Rudolph is your starter.
19:04I don't see a scenario
19:06where Pittsburgh keeps
19:07four quarterbacks,
19:08so I think that
19:10Will Howard,
19:11drafted by Mike Tomlin
19:12a year ago,
19:13he will be the odd man
19:15out in the quarterback
19:16rotation for the
19:17Pittsburgh Steelers.
19:18Is Joe Burrow sending
19:19a message to Bengals
19:20management with his
19:21comments this week?
19:22Can our his boys
19:23tee in Jamar,
19:24the bonafide best
19:25wideout tandem
19:26in the league?
19:27Give him my top five
19:28next.
19:30Talk about chasing
19:32the championship
19:33in, what,
19:34mid-August.
19:34Why are you comfortable
19:35doing that June,
19:37July, and August
19:37right now?
19:38Trying to put it out.
19:39I'm trying to put it
19:40out into the world.
19:40I'm trying to manifest it.
19:41I'm trying to show our
19:45guys the urgency
19:46that I have
19:47and that I want us
19:48to have as an
19:49organization to go
19:51and make it happen.
19:54You can keep pushing
19:55it down the road
19:56or you can talk
19:56about it now
19:57and say this is the
19:58year and I'm tired
20:00of saying next year,
20:01next year,
20:01next year.
20:02This is it.
20:05Your life is too
20:06short to keep pushing
20:08things down the road
20:09and I'm trying to
20:12instill some urgency
20:13and some intensity
20:14in everybody
20:15to go and get,
20:17be great every day
20:18and try to go
20:18and make it happen.
20:20My guy, Joe Burrow,
20:23manifesting a return
20:24to the Super Bowl.
20:25And let me just
20:26tell you something.
20:27This is my single
20:29favorite soundbite
20:31of the entire
20:32NFL preseason.
20:33I am obsessed
20:35and I love the standard
20:37that Joe Burrow
20:38is holding himself,
20:39his teammates,
20:40the organization,
20:41the fans in Cincinnati
20:43too.
20:43And by the way,
20:44I don't want the
20:46media elite,
20:46the Twitter tough guys
20:48to say,
20:49oh, this is Joe Burrow
20:51trying at the end
20:52of the day
20:53to grease the skids
20:55here of ultimately
20:56if it doesn't work,
20:57he's going to demand
20:58out of Cincinnati.
21:00Nonsense.
21:01This is Joe Burrow
21:02professing his love
21:04for Cincinnati.
21:06Don't hate.
21:07Not on my watch.
21:08This is Joe Burrow
21:09saying,
21:10I want to win
21:10a championship
21:11in Cincinnati.
21:13The team is capable.
21:15The offense is capable.
21:17The defense is capable.
21:20Look at what Cincinnati
21:21did on defense
21:22during the offseason.
21:23Remember,
21:24they traded a first-round
21:25pick for Sexy Dexy,
21:27which is everything
21:28and so out of character
21:29historically
21:30for the Cincinnati Bengals.
21:32I loved it.
21:33Raved about it.
21:34Dexter Lawrence,
21:36one of the four best
21:37defensive tackles
21:38in the entire league.
21:40Look at Allen.
21:41Look at who they brought in
21:42from championship teams,
21:44from the Seattle Seahawks,
21:46from the New England Patriots,
21:48from the Kansas City Chiefs.
21:50They brought in winners.
21:52They brought in guys
21:53to get them
21:54to the next level.
21:55And by the way,
21:57Joe Burrow's healthy.
21:58By any measuring stick,
22:00Joe Burrow is,
22:02for 2026,
22:03a top five quarterback
22:05in the NFL.
22:06And I believe that
22:07Jamar Chase,
22:08is unbelievable.
22:09T. Higgins is unbelievable.
22:11The line is really good
22:13in Cincinnati.
22:14Chase Brown can run
22:15the football effectively.
22:17And Joe Burrow,
22:18when you look at this team,
22:20he is saying,
22:20guys,
22:21get on my back.
22:22You look at the Bengals
22:24and their odds
22:25for this year,
22:26I'm telling you,
22:27the biggest lock
22:27is Cincinnati
22:28to make the playoffs,
22:30Cincinnati over for the wins.
22:32And I'm telling you,
22:34I like Cincinnati
22:35to win the division.
22:36Everyone loves
22:37the Baltimore Ravens,
22:38Lamar Jackson,
22:39Jesse Minter,
22:40and I respect
22:41the hell out of them
22:41and I'll pick them
22:42to make the playoffs.
22:43But Joe Burrow's team
22:45is better than everyone else.
22:47I think that this Bengals team
22:49is absolutely going to win
22:51the very competitive
22:52AFC North.
22:53I love that Joe Burrow
22:55is not afraid
22:56of talking about
22:57how great he thinks
22:58this team can be
22:59and will be.
23:00I think Joe Burrow,
23:02there's a real shot.
23:03He leads the league
23:04in passing yards this year.
23:05I think this team,
23:07if you look at their schedule,
23:09if you look at
23:10the talent on the squad,
23:12if you look at the energy
23:13in Cincinnati
23:14after the incredible offseason,
23:17I'm telling you,
23:18they're winning at minimum.
23:19If things go wrong,
23:2112 games.
23:22That's how great
23:23I think the Cincinnati Bengals
23:25are going to be
23:25and I'm obsessed
23:27with our guy Joe Burrow
23:28talking big
23:29because he knows
23:30he's got the weapons
23:32on offense and defense
23:34to match.
23:35So, where exactly do
23:37Joe Burrow's weapons fall
23:39when you look at receiver
23:41tandems in the NFL?
23:43Let's rank them, okay?
23:45Sure there'll be
23:45no controversy here.
23:47Let's go over
23:48my top five receiver combos
23:50in the league,
23:51starting with number five.
23:53My fifth best receiver
23:55tandem in the National
23:56Football League.
23:57We're going to go with
23:58Waddle and Sutton
23:59for the Denver Broncos.
24:01And I think Jalen Waddle
24:03is absolutely terrific.
24:04I think he's going to catch
24:05100 passes this year
24:07from Bo Nix.
24:08Cortland Sutton
24:09is very underrated
24:10and I think this combination
24:12and this trade
24:12bringing in Waddle
24:13was absolutely incredible.
24:15This combo is going to be dreamy
24:18for the Denver Broncos.
24:19At number four,
24:21I really think that
24:22Justin Jefferson
24:23is best receiver
24:24in the NFL.
24:26Don't sleep on what Jordan
24:27Addison brings to the table.
24:28I think that,
24:29and again,
24:30we're going to wait it here
24:31and Justin Jefferson
24:32as your number one
24:33is everything.
24:34Jordan Addison,
24:35I think people sleep
24:36on his ability
24:37to stretch the field.
24:38By the way,
24:39I think that Kyler Murray
24:40is going to maximize
24:41these guys.
24:42That's going to take them
24:42to a different level.
24:43It's a ranking for 2026.
24:46We're going into
24:46the crystal ball.
24:48Jefferson is my guy.
24:49Taught me how to do
24:50the gritty.
24:50I really think that
24:52this combo is going to be
24:53incredible this season.
24:54At number three,
24:56when you look at it,
24:57Puka Nakua,
24:58Devontae Adams.
24:59And they very easily
25:00were in the mix.
25:01One, two, and three here.
25:02You can have a real
25:04intelligent discussion
25:05on how you rank it.
25:06Puka Nakua is unbelievable.
25:08Puka Nakua could end up
25:09leading the league
25:10in catches this year.
25:12Now, Devontae Adams,
25:13to me, is a first ballot
25:14Hall of Famer.
25:16Has a lot of gas left
25:17in the tank.
25:18Did get a little nicked
25:19at the end of last year.
25:21The only thing that maybe
25:22prevents me from putting
25:23them at one or two
25:24is age for Devontae Adams.
25:26But I expect the Rams
25:27to be incredible.
25:28Stafford delivers them
25:29the ball.
25:30Sean McVay finds a way
25:31to get these guys open.
25:33Obsessed with Puka Nakua
25:34and Devontae Adams.
25:36Number two for 2026,
25:38CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens.
25:39And I know CeeDee Lamb
25:40said that this duo
25:42is the best in the history
25:43of the NFL.
25:44I don't even have him
25:44number one in the league
25:45this year, but I'm putting
25:47him at number two.
25:48Lamb's healthy.
25:49Lamb has the chops
25:50for the big moments.
25:51I think CeeDee Lamb
25:52is going to be first team
25:53All-Pro.
25:53I think you need to draft
25:54CeeDee Lamb in your
25:55fantasy league.
25:56George Pickens is playing
25:57for himself, playing
25:58for his numbers,
25:59playing for the team,
26:00playing a win,
26:01playing for the bag
26:01on a franchise tag
26:02for his next contract.
26:04Monster year coming up
26:05for George Pickens
26:06and CeeDee Lamb.
26:08And my number one
26:08receiver tandem in the NFL
26:10for this year,
26:11Cincinnati, baby.
26:13I just am obsessed
26:14with Jamar Chase.
26:15And Tee Higgins,
26:16to me,
26:17is the most underrated
26:18wide receiver
26:19in the entire league.
26:21I mean, Tee Higgins,
26:22he's built like Kevin Durant
26:24and his hands
26:25and his height
26:26and his ability
26:27to out-grapple
26:28DBs is incredible.
26:29Jamar Chase
26:30is going to have
26:32a monster year.
26:34And that chemistry
26:35that Burrow and Chase
26:36have had for their entire lives,
26:38going back to LSU.
26:39Their friendship is special.
26:41Chase is a special player.
26:43I just love
26:44this passing attack
26:45and that's why
26:46when Joe Burrow
26:47starts talking about
26:48a championship,
26:48I love this.
26:50So we're going to put
26:51Chase and we're going
26:52to put Higgins
26:52number one on the list
26:54for receiver tandems
26:55for this upcoming season.
27:01Kings of the Hill.
27:03Derek Cole dominates
27:04as the Yankees sweep.
27:06Jacob DeGrom
27:07makes hurling history.
27:08We're going to wrap up
27:09the week on Shine Time.
27:10Next.
27:11Is there anything
27:12like the fans don't know
27:14about your celebrations
27:15or what you guys
27:16all did together
27:17or anything that's special
27:18that you kind of always like
27:20are like,
27:21yeah,
27:21that was a good night.
27:22That I went out
27:22in the public?
27:23Probably not.
27:24We're celebrating
27:26almost every night
27:29and enjoying
27:29each other's company.
27:30You kind of always
27:31do that
27:33at the end of the year.
27:34Last year,
27:35we did the same thing
27:36in terms of
27:38obviously we lost
27:39and it came out
27:41like,
27:41we were partying
27:42and then Tibbs got fired
27:43the next day
27:43or something like that
27:44or the day before.
27:45But it's like,
27:47you always want to
27:49go out
27:50and celebrate
27:51at the end of every year
27:53with that team
27:53because at the end of the day,
27:54like that team
27:56in its entirety
27:57is never going to be
27:58back together.
28:00You're not going to have

28:59My New York Yankees
29:00finished off a three-game sweep
29:02of the Orioles
29:02in Baltimore last night
29:04led by Garrett Cole
29:06who went six innings,
29:07giving up just one
29:08earned run
29:08with eight strikeouts.
29:10Another gem
29:11from our guy,
29:12Garrett Cole.
29:13And I want you to take
29:14a look at Garrett Cole
29:15and what he's done
29:16in his last nine starts.
29:17Garrett Cole is back
29:19and it's absolutely amazing
29:21if you're a diehard
29:22Yankee fan.
29:23And listen,
29:24you look at Cole,
29:26last nine starts,
29:27seven quality starts.
29:28Since the calendar
29:29flipped to July,
29:31he is really humming.
29:32He is ticking.
29:33He is vintage Garrett Cole.
29:35This is incredibly inspiring
29:37if you're a Yankee fan
29:38like me.
29:39Offense hit, miss.
29:41Last night,
29:41you saw Garcia
29:42and Elliot Ramos
29:44join the party
29:44and get some stuff done
29:46and that was obviously
29:47huge for the New York Yankees.
29:49Bellinger in a rehab
29:50assignment last night.
29:51That was great.
29:52Judge is finally swinging
29:54off a tee.
29:55Reasons to be optimistic here
29:57if you're a fan
29:58of the New York Yankees.
29:59Gotta get Max free
30:01and healthy.
30:02But Garrett Cole
30:03doing what he did last night,
30:05I thought that was just
30:06absolutely awesome
30:08when you look at it
30:09from a Yankee perspective.
30:11Finally,
30:13last night in Texas,
30:14my guy,
30:15Jacob DeGrom,
30:16made history.
30:18Becoming the fastest pitcher
30:20by innings pitch
30:21to reach 2,000 strikeouts.
30:24At age 38,
30:25his career
30:26is nearing the finish line.
30:28So the debate ensues.
30:30Is Jacob DeGrom
30:31a Hall of Famer?
30:33Let me give you
30:34a very strong take.
30:36Absolutely, positively,
30:38Jacob DeGrom
30:39should be in Cooperstown.
30:41Jacob DeGrom
30:42is one of the most
30:43dominant pitchers
30:44in the last 40 years
30:45in Major League Baseball.
30:46And injuries
30:48have been a factor,
30:49obviously, right?
30:51But Mets fans
30:52know better
30:53than anyone else
30:55that when Jacob DeGrom
30:56was Jacob DeGrom,
30:58Jacob DeGrom
30:59was the best
31:00in the business.
31:01Untouchable,
31:02unhittable.
31:03Cy Young's,
31:04top Cy Young finishes,
31:06must-see TV.
31:08Obviously,
31:09this guy
31:10is remarkable.
31:11And that's stats
31:12in terms of,
31:13in terms of innings pitch.
31:14Fastest to get to
31:152,000 strikeouts.
31:17It kind of hits at home.
31:19Look,
31:19this resume tells you
31:21everything you need to know.
31:23We're talking about
31:24a guy who has won
31:25the Cy Young
31:26a couple of times.
31:27Strikeout machine.
31:29Look at the win-loss record.
31:31Look at the ERA.
31:32Look at the whip,
31:33which shows you
31:34he didn't mess around
31:35and throw balls
31:36out of the strike zone.
31:37Look at the strikeouts
31:39for Jacob DeGrom,
31:40an all-star.
31:41Injuries, obviously,
31:43we're always an issue
31:44with DeGrom,
31:45but we are talking
31:47about a guy
31:47who was the guy
31:49for so long
31:50in Major League Baseball.
31:52Now, you know,
31:53let's combine it, right?
31:54In baseball,
31:55you always hear the word
31:56compiler for the Hall of Fame.
31:58Tommy John,
31:59rest in peace,
32:00unbelievable guy,
32:01great for the Yankees,
32:02Dodgers, other teams.
32:03Tommy John's not
32:04a Hall of Famer.
32:05Very good to great pitcher.
32:07When Jacob DeGrom
32:08was at his,
32:10the height of his powers,
32:11he was the best pitcher
32:12in baseball.
32:13Over a short period of time,
32:15but for five years,
32:16he was the absolute
32:17best pitcher in baseball.
32:19Even a Ranger fan
32:20will tell you
32:20whenever he's been healthy,
32:22he's been untouchable,
32:24unhittable,
32:25everything you want
32:26in a surefire,
32:28all-time great.
32:29You know every single time
32:31Jacob DeGrom
32:32would tow the rubber.
32:33Mets, Rangers,
32:35your team had a chance
32:36to win because he was
32:37the best damn pitcher
32:39on the planet.
32:40So, every situation
32:42is different.
32:43You know,
32:43I was banging the drum
32:44for years.
32:44Finally,
32:45Terrell Davis got in.
32:46Shorter career in the NFL,
32:48running the football.
32:49You know,
32:49I appreciate great long
32:51careers as well.
32:52Jacob DeGrom is an exception
32:54to the rule.
32:55He was untouchable.
32:56He absolutely,
32:58positively goes to Cooperstown.
33:00That's the show.
33:01If you missed any portion
33:02of the show,
33:02just do what I do.
