00:30uh it doesn't it changes things in that he keeps his job uh but and and it may buy himself

00:39bit of time here but the the question is instantly well can he sustain this can he do this week

00:47week out or the majority of weeks and look guys like ultimately 238 yards and two touchdowns you
00:56know we're not sitting here setting nobody expected him to do 400 yards and five touchdowns i i don't
01:01think that's in his arsenal but the most frustrating part about this whole saga has been we haven't
01:08gotten that what he did on sunday in tampa bay we haven't gotten close to that and that was a

01:15game you know was it was it otherworldly was it extraordinary was it spectacular if you call it
01:22those things you're diminishing those words but i give him credit because he stepped up he made some
01:29big throws he avoided a couple of sacks and he found blake whitehart when he needed to in this game
01:34and the ball to boss denzel boston was terrific deshaun deserves credit for that performance but to be a
01:44starting quarterback in the nfl you have to be able to do it the majority of the 17 games that
01:51you play in not once every two or three years and that's not me taking a shot it's me saying
01:58you
01:59follow it up on sunday at home and we are going to be sitting here on on tuesday of next
02:07week and we're
02:08saying man did we're we're some of us wrong we're some of us wrong because he's done it now back

02:15back weeks do you think the browns that we saw in week two is the real version of the browns

02:20you think it's closer to the one we saw in week one i would still say it's well it's it's

02:28closer to week one in reality of the record i don't think that that jonathan that that we're going
02:35to be watching week one type performances throughout much of the season uh i i i think that the the
02:42offensive operation okay the offensive operation uh and the defense uh are are closer to week two the
02:51defense is definitely closer to week two the results i i am i'm not adjusting my win total based off

03:41the season like their first week but guys they became they they were able to and you have to in
03:46the nfl they caught the bucks on a on a on the right day they really did um baker was

03:54clearly has nerves with cleveland baker clearly hasn't gotten over that whole breakup he has
03:59he's a uh a lot of bark no actual bite when the game's on the line and when things get

04:07quarterback uh and that was embarrassing for todd goals and embarrassing for the buccaneers
04:11who i mean people's jobs are on the line in tampa bay um i i just i think it's it's
04:17in reality
04:19it's closer to week two but i don't know how many of the browns opponents are going to play as
04:24poorly as tampa bay did in the second half of sunday's game only time will tell it's why sunday
04:29is so big i mean if they win on sunday then you can adjust your your win total i'm okay
04:35with that
04:35but i'm skeptical and i think they have a reality check coming for them on sunday in the form of
04:40the carolina panthers john uh there's been a big narrative emerging certainly this week uh because
04:47kevin stefanski's falcons look completely lost at quarterback meanwhile deshaun looks found at least
04:53for one week uh under todd munkin is the kevin stefanski is to blame narrative correct
05:02well uh not not not uh no it's not correct um because kevin stefanski uh has uh his work cut
05:16out for him in atlanta and he has pretty clearly lost his fastball um and and has to either figure
05:24out a way to get a new fastball guys or he's going to go down with the flames they're not
05:28helping him
05:29at the quarterback position but guess what you can't lose 34 to 3 in the in the national football
05:33league i mean uh ali crow on that i was a stefanski liker uh and he looks terrible right now
05:40i mean let's
05:41just call it what it is it the the responses of the podium i mean tom munkin wins that that
05:47race every
05:48time and tom munkin uh is so refreshing the locker room video was was awesome uh but is kevin stefanski
05:55to blame well he certainly isn't worth crediting and he certainly um he certainly isn't worth saying
06:03that he was for the good you know in the final two years of his tenure but i i said
06:09players have to
06:10play like was watson that much different than what we've seen uh on sunday his depth of passing was
06:203.6 you know he he threw a lot of balls that i have seen him throw i don't know
06:26what tampa was doing
06:27defensively i still don't know what they were doing defensively but i'm not going to sit here and say
06:31oh yeah the browns have solved all issues because kevin stefanski is no longer their coach
06:36if the browns go 4 and 13 then you can't sit here and say that it was only the coach
06:41who caused all
06:41the crap uh john you know what does make it impressive though and i agree with your larger
06:46point is that it's not like we've saw anything groundbreaking from deshawn necessarily but he
06:50did he did do that game with no run game attached to the browns name and so uh 12 carries
06:5621 yards
06:56for quinchon he just hasn't had it going is it is it quinchon's fault is he the problem now two
07:01weeks in or is that the offensive line learning how to gel together yeah that offensive line has
07:07the pass blocking down and i i this is just my my educated guest guys when top munkin took this

07:13he had to have watched you know tape of the of the season and if you watched any tape of
07:19the brown
07:19season uh you you quickly said good lord almighty this this offensive line can't pass to save their
07:26lives and look there's a guy who knows what it means to block for your passer it's todd munkin
07:32because when lamar jackson hasn't been healthy it's cost the ravens a lot of football games and even when
07:38he has been healthy and they haven't blocked for him it's cost the ravens games uh it's pretty clear
07:43watch this offensive line i mean the offensive line i i would say and i i know that their protection
07:49at times and late in the game when watson had to escape that wasn't great but the offensive line
07:54has kind of exceeded my expectations i mean if you look at pff and analytics in the preseason there
08:00are people who said that the browns offensive line was was going to be brutal and they've been in the
08:05past blocking game they've been pretty solid to good on the run blocking side i think there's a
08:11little bit of trying to figure each other out guys at least it feels that way watching them run the
08:16football it also i thought that um robert turbin brought up the point on the broadcast like the
08:22browns were trying to get to the outside and turbin said that's playing right into the bucks
08:28tendencies like they want to take away the outside run the ball up the middle so i found that pretty
08:33interesting on on sunday because that's exactly what was happening and it did feel like when the
08:38browns tried to run it up the middle they actually were able to get you know three four or five
08:42yard
08:43chunks i'm i'm gonna say this i think it's the most important factor in sunday's game how the
08:48browns run the football because if the browns are going to win this game i just don't think that
08:53they're cut out to win a 38 to 35 game i don't even know if they're cut out to win
08:57a like a 30 to 27
08:59game the browns need to win kind of similarly to how they beat tampa bay and if you're going to
09:05be
09:05carolina who has shown the ability to put up some electric offensive plays if you're going to beat the
09:11panthers guys you need to possess the football and in order to do that you better get chunks on the
09:17ground so the browns run game may be the biggest factor in determining how sunday goes because if
09:22they don't run the ball on sunday they're going to lose all right john we got to look at the
09:26guardians
09:26they're fighting for second place in the al they're fighting for the al central crown worst case scenario
09:33right now feels like that last wild card spot uh what does the guardians record need to be in the
09:39final six games of the regular season for them to get the two seed and the al central division crown
09:47well i don't see chicago losing to the rockies okay so i'm just going to put it out there
09:53chicago's got three wins there uh i i'm going to say you know i i think to to be safe
10:01five and one
10:02i mean i i i know that that might come off ambitious but i'm very fearful of the guardians going
10:08four and
10:08two and the white socks going five and one and you know the royals have better pitching lined up for
10:14the guardian series i don't know if that's intentional or not but it kind of i don't know
10:17it kind of feels like and the city would like to see chicago win a division and not this cleveland
10:22club that they keep that they've been losing to for years on end uh i i think the guardians i

10:27to be safe five and one you know if if they're if they're going four and two i'm fearful of
10:35chicago
10:36taking two of three from kansas city and sweeping the rockies so you know four four and two um
10:44i i would be a little uneasy because colorado's so bad as we all saw a few weeks ago i
10:52just have a
10:53hard time believing that but anything can happen in baseball i think you know four and two to feel
10:58solid five and one really makes you feel safe and we talk about you know every game is big guys

11:07let's let's not let's call it what it is tonight you've got parker methic on the mound i know they've
11:15got payton toley and i know how good toley's been but if you're the guardians we don't want to be
11:21sitting here on your show tomorrow thinking they've started the week going one and we said four and two
11:26would feel pretty solid if you match with chicago but if you've already got one loss the pressure
11:32like doubles then going into tomorrow because then your room for air has really decreased so uh
11:40momentum it's everything the worst thing for cleveland might have been if they had an off day
11:45because they were just over the weekend they found ways to win but this is a big boy game for
11:50parker
11:51messick here and if he wants to be resting next week he pitches his tail off tonight uh what does
11:57it say about steven kwan the the fact that you look up and he's got not only the highest wins

12:01replacement on the team but it's also by almost two full wins over chase the water and almost three
12:07full wins better than j-ram when this is all said and done i think there's a lesson there what

12:12think the lesson is john well that baseball's a marathon it's a marathon and that that the amount
12:19of of hate that we give to the guardians hitting system it's it's fair to a uh point but i

12:28that this shows that like i'll and i'm gonna put myself on the spot here okay i'm gonna i'm gonna

12:34gonna so so as not to i i don't like um i don't always like like going at you know
12:39people following the
12:40the the ball club on x and whatnot because there's no good of that like i i myself included i

12:51manager and i'm gonna give steven vote credit because there's something about vote that has
12:57he he was getting heat guys i mean every day people are saying why is this guy having the role

13:03has he's been the worst hitter in baseball he can't do it he can't do like give vote a lot

13:08this guy's in his third year as the skipper of the team and he has he he's matched the organization's
13:15culture and steven kwan matches that to a t like there are just some guys that when you watch them
13:20on a ball club they're meant to be on that team steven kwan epitomizes the guardians he's just a
13:26chippy gritty a defensive guy who on the offensive side doesn't what's that gamer it's a real gamer
13:34gamer high iq gamer and he's tough he's a gamer he's tough he's got great iq and he's just he
13:40just plays hard and that reverberates when we talk about leadership you know ramirez leads by example
13:45uh kwan's got all of it and you know i i just it's amazing jp and nick i mean when
13:52i was in your studio
13:53uh back a couple months ago nick and i were on the side of this offense is going to find
13:58their way
13:59and then for the ensuing four weeks we look like idiots but uh and maybe we still are but i
14:05could
14:05tell you this much the reason why cleveland can make a run in october is because they've got an
14:09offense and you know i was talking with some baseball people over the weekend uh and and the
14:14consensus was like uh the guardians are scary because we know they've got parker messi and
14:20gavin williams but there's kind of a 16 17 vibe of like the the casual is going to be like
14:26well who's
14:26this guy who's that guy but if you're watching this ball club every day right now when when travis
14:31bazana joe adele chase delauder steven kwan and now jose ramirez when they're coming up to the play
14:37right now you're not saying no this isn't out you're saying they got a real chance to make something
14:42happen the offense has turned it on and that gives cleveland a real opportunity here to be sitting in
14:50an american league championship series but you got to go at least four and two this week john i'm an
