00:52And if it weren't for that touchdown to Denzel Boston,
00:57he would have thrown for 130 yards against Jacksonville.
01:01So, I mean, that's what got him over the 200-yard mark.
01:07But just getting him to throw for 200 yards in a game is climbing Mount Everest.
01:13Getting him to have a positive touchdown to interception ratio
01:16or touchdown to turnover ratio is like climbing Mount Everest.
01:20He's completely self-unaware, and he's trying to play this victim card
01:26that doesn't exist, that he's not qualified to play at all.
01:31He deserves all the criticism that he gets.
01:34He's earned it.
01:35And I don't know.
01:38I guess he wants everyone to feel sorry for him or something.
01:41I don't get it, but, yeah, I was a little befuddled by his media availability today.

02:02I feel like the Browns and the way that they've been talking about this
02:05and the way they've been – basically the way they've been handling this
02:08and the national media has been handling this.
02:11This is not – they're not acting quickly for a reason.
02:15Yeah, they're committed to the bit no matter how bad it is.
02:19And so I think when we talked going into the season about his leash,
02:25I had said four weeks, I stand by that through that Pittsburgh Thursday night game,
02:32and then you reevaluate from there.
02:36I think in week six they played Baltimore,
02:39which is Todd Munkin's return to the land of crab cakes.
02:45I don't know if that is another potential line of demarcation
02:48for a potential quarterback change or not.
02:52But, yeah, and it's not even expecting him to throw for 400 yards
02:58and five touchdowns.
02:59It's can you just look competent?
03:02Can you look average?
03:04We'll even settle for below average at this point.
03:07Anything above what fans have watched in the 20 starts that he's been on the field.
03:14I mean, he's yet to throw for 300 yards as a Cleveland Browns quarterback.
03:19That's done in the National Football League by guys with their eyes closed effortlessly,
03:23and this guy can't even do that.
03:26So, yeah, he completely misunderstands his lot in life right now.
03:34All right, so let's get to Sunday because we are starting to turn the page there
03:39to this Tampa Bay game.
03:41You and the Browns, Nick.
03:42You and the Browns.
03:43Well, you see you can't do anything about the other game,
03:46so now you've got to get on to this next one.
03:47If you just coach better and play better and execute better and operate better,
03:54well, then everything will be different.
03:56What do you think from week one are you most positive that you don't think
04:04will go wrong again in week two?
04:06Well, I think that the offensive line will continue to gel.
04:12I liked what I saw from them in the season opener down in Jacksonville,
04:19despite some of the pressure that I feel like Deshaun kind of created himself
04:23with some of his drops.
04:26But Austin Barber is going to start again at right guard.
04:29We did not have Tevin Jenkins at practice again today,
04:34but Todd Munkin told us before practice that Barber was going to start
04:40regardless of Jenkins' availability.
04:43So you're going to have some stability there up front on that offensive line.
04:48So I'm confident that that group is going to continue to grow together
04:53and get an opportunity here to show that they can be a very solid unit
05:01for them offensively in the trenches.
05:03I feel like you guys on the beat, and there's no other way of really,
05:08I'm not saying anything bad.
05:09I just want you to know that.
05:10But like you guys on the beat, you guys tend to be like the canary in the coal mine.
05:13You'll call things out before we see it, right?
05:15You'll be like, ah, Deshaun looked bad in practice.
05:17And so then the expectation is then he looks bad,
05:20and then you see him in the games, and then he looks bad,
05:22and we go from there, right?
05:23But you guys did not sound the alarm on the defense at all.
05:26Should that give fans out there some sort of impression
05:29that the defense is just a week one lapse and it'll be fine?
05:33Or was week one something that really just came out of left field for everybody,
05:37and this is very concerning?
05:39And I guess I'll just let you take it from there.
05:42Well, I mean, they weren't playing the Browns' offense.
05:44I think that that was part of the problem,
05:46and I don't mean to sound so facetious about it,
05:48but I do think that that's part of the equation.
05:51The other part, too, is the amount of zone that they played.
05:54This is not a zone secondary,
05:55and I don't know why Mike Rutenberg feels like zone is the way to go
05:59because when the Browns typically play zone.
06:01Because he's in the zone.
06:02Yeah, well, so was Trevor Lawrence on Sunday against that zone.
06:07So, yeah, when they typically play zone,
06:11it does not go well for the Browns.
06:12I don't know why.
06:13I asked Denzel Ward about that today,
06:15and he gave a thoughtful answer.
06:17He said, listen, this is just one game.
06:18We're not going to sit here and bail on an entire season
06:21because we had a bad afternoon or whatever.
06:23It's not that we can't play zone, so let's not go there.
06:27And I understand that, but I don't know.
06:29You guys need to show us you can play zone then
06:31if that's what you're going to do.
06:32If the majority of your defensive snaps,
06:34you're going to be in that alignment,
06:35then you've got to show that you're competent at it.
06:37And they just weren't on Sunday.
06:41And so I think that that was part of it, too.
06:45And I use Tyson Campbell as the prime example.
06:48Part of the reason Jacksonville traded him to the Browns last year,
06:50they were playing zone.
06:52He was not playing well.
06:54When he came to Cleveland,
06:55we were told to have very low expectations
06:57about his productivity in the secondary.
06:59He comes here, starts playing man-to-man under Jim Schwartz,
07:02and boom, all of a sudden, we're sitting here talking like
07:04the Cleveland Browns just totally ripped Jacksonville off
07:09and had another heist on the trade market here.
07:15So I think that that's a big part of it,
07:17and I am going to ask, or one of my colleagues
07:19will ultimately end up asking Mike Ruenberg tomorrow
07:22about playing zone, the decision to play majority zone,
07:26because I think that that's a big reason why they got cooked.
07:29And there was a bunch of miscommunication
07:32on that side of the ball, playing zone.
07:34And going back even before the Jim Schwartz era,
07:38under Joe Woods and other defensive coordinators,
07:41when they were playing zone,
07:42they were getting cooked because of miscommunication.
07:45So I'm not a big fan of them playing a lot of zone
07:48with this particular secondary.
07:49I don't know why they're not good at it,
07:52but they're clearly not good at it.
07:54So stop doing it.
07:55Yeah, the one upside to playing this much zone
08:00is you can watch a lot of Cavs basketball into zone.
