00:24What do you think Baker Mayfield's thinking this morning?
00:27That he would like to beat the Browns badly?
00:31Why won't he say it, then?
00:33He's been very reserved this week, Nathan. I don't like it.
00:36A little too quiet, Nathan.
00:38Maybe he's just trying to be focused and locked in at the task at hand,
00:42just like the Cleveland Browns are. Both of these teams are 0-1.
00:44Both need to get to 1-1, and they both have an opportunity to do that on Sunday.
00:49And, you know, people who know each other very, very well.
00:52Todd Munkin's offense in Baltimore hung about 480 yards on Todd Bowles
00:56and the Bucs last time he faced them.
00:58Obviously, different personnel. Baker Mayfield has not beaten the Browns.
01:02In fact, the Bucs have lost eight of their last ten.
01:05So, I think there's a lot at stake for both of these teams.
01:07Both need to get a win.
01:09Yeah, he's quiet, all right. Quiet like a fox.
01:12No, okay.
01:14Nathan, how do the Browns go out and get a win on Sunday?
01:17Because, you know, I'm picking against them.
01:20I'm not rooting against them.
01:22But how do they go out there and they get themselves a win?
01:26They've got to be a lot better.
01:27I mean, you've got to be better operationally.
01:29Pre-snap. You've got to be better post-snap.
01:30People need to understand their assignments.
01:32People need to run the right routes.
01:33Guys need to go the right direction in the run game.
01:35The offensive line's got to play better.
01:36They're going to have to handle the blitzing of Todd Bowles.
01:40Todd Bowles is going to blitz.
01:41Last week, 48%.
01:42He's going to blitz as much as anybody in the league outside of Brian Flores.
01:45And the Browns, with a brand-new offensive line,
01:48are going to get a lot of exotic blitzes.
01:50And it starts right there.
01:50If you cannot handle the blitzes on offense,
01:54the Browns are really going to have a tough day down in Tampa.
01:57Now, defensively, you've got to be so much better than you were
02:00in that game against Jacksonville.
02:02The Browns have got to figure out a way to generate a pass rush.
02:04They've got to figure out a way to play more man coverage
02:07because that's their specialty.
02:08Now, last week was a bit of a tough matchup.
02:10We highlighted it on Friday last week.
02:12Parker Washington and Miles Harden.
02:13I think that matchup went so decidedly in the Jags' favor early
02:17that the Browns tried to get into a little bit more zone
02:19than they probably would have otherwise.
02:21And so, it just has to be better.
02:24I mean, that was not a good football performance.
02:26That was not a good result.
02:27And, you know, hopefully it's better this week
02:30because that's the good thing about the NFL.
02:32Whether you lose by one, whether you lose in the fashion the Browns did,
02:35it all counts the same.
02:37Now you've got an opportunity to go back to get to one-on-one.

02:41So, I love having you on because you mix it up a little bit with the film.
02:45You also talk to people within the building that are observers of the film.
02:49So, I know there's a war on PFF right now,
02:52but they did not think highly, obviously, Deshaun Watts' performance.
02:56I don't think anybody did.
02:57But they graded it like his worst performance ever.
02:59And I'm like, well, I've seen him play worse.
03:01And I thought there were some at least steps in the right direction in the second half.
03:06What did you think after analyzing the film of his performance overall?
03:12Yeah, I agree with you.
03:13You've got to build on some of the things in the second half.
03:14The rip on the deep comeback to Denzel Boston.
03:17The deep over to Casey Concepcion, which was a great throw,
03:20beating man coverage of Jordan Lewis.
03:21And then, obviously, the last one, the 46-yard touchdown, was a good throw as well.
03:26It's, you know, he's just got to stay calm.
03:28He's got to stay confident.
03:29I think that early interception, certainly, whether, you know,
03:33whether consciously or subconsciously, that has to affect a quarterback, right?
03:37And so, we've got to avoid those kind of plays.
03:39It was not his worst form.
03:40So, I was talking with Great Cosell.
03:41We have a great segment now on Browns Daily every Friday where Great Cosell joins us,
03:44breaks down the film the week before, looks ahead to the matchup of this week.
03:47And he said, you know, I really didn't think Deshaun Watson played all that bad,
03:50and especially from the second half on.
03:52Todd Munkin yesterday said, you know, we've got to build on those things in the second half.
03:54So, was it his best?
03:56No.
03:56Was it as good as 16 of 22 looks?
03:59Also, no.
04:00So, there's context to both sides of it.
04:01But Deshaun Watson's got to build off some of those good things that he did,
04:05and the Browns are going to have to get going.
04:06Now, the Bucs last week gave 101 yards to tight ends.
04:09Harold Fannin last week just 21 yards.
04:11You've got to get Harold Fannin involved.
04:12But I think this is a good opportunity to do so against those linebackers and safeties in Tampa Bay.
04:16All right, offensive line.
04:17That was the next part of this because there's a big debate in the film community.
04:21How responsible was the offensive line for the sacks?
04:24What did you make of that performance?
04:27I think it all goes hand in hand, right?
04:28I mean, on one we saw in the shotgun drop where I think Deshaun Watson got a little bit too
04:32deep out of the shotgun.
04:33On some of the other ones we saw guys, you know, maybe not necessarily hold up on speed to power.
04:38I think it was a good learning experience for Spencer Fano.
04:41But, look, it all goes hand in hand.
04:43I think the offensive line has got to be better, especially in the run game.
04:46That's where I really want them to get some room for Quinshawn Judkins.
04:49We still have this kind of deja vu all over again where he's getting hit at or behind the line
04:53of scrimmage on half of his carries.
04:54So that's something to me that's got to be improved in a big way.
04:57But, listen, this is a brand-new offensive line.
04:59The Browns had eight of their 11 starters.
05:01We're not starters a year ago.
05:03So there's a lot.
05:04I'm not as surprised about the offense.
05:06I was certainly more surprised about the defense.
05:07But George Warhop has already gotten this group going in the right direction.
05:11And I think it's going to take some time.
05:12It just does with offensive lines.
05:14But I think the Browns' offensive line will get there.
05:16You mentioned the deep drops out of the shotgun.
05:19And this set off a firestorm of a debate, whether this is being coached, whether he's had these tendencies back
05:27since the days of Houston.
05:29What did you see when you saw him sprinting backwards at least 10 steps out of the gun?
05:36It just makes it very hard on the tackles because, you know, they're pushing people up the field.
05:42And when you go and take a drop that deep, you're really not letting there be a pocket.
05:47You're putting those tackles in a very tough position.
05:49And so, look, on the one where they blocked it up on the touchdown, they did the same thing.
05:54And that looks great, right?
05:55But when they don't, I think it makes it very difficult.
05:57So that's not something – and I don't know if that's coached up or not.
06:01That's not something that you see a lot of.
06:03But we had two plays with it.
06:05One was a sack.
06:06One was a 46-yard touchdown.
06:07So we'll see how that goes going forward.
06:09Because if that was not what they wanted, then that will be coached up in a different way.

06:23Well, it looked great on TV.
06:24I really did.

06:26That was an awesome atmosphere.
06:28I thought it was a fun game.
06:29Josh Allen is spectacular right now.
06:32And that was good to see.
06:34But I thought the stadium looked really, really good on TV.
06:35I really did.
06:36But, look, I think, should they have a dome?
06:38Yeah.
06:38But you also understand it's a Buffalo.
06:40Like, what events would they really be able to get there with a dome?
06:44But I thought it looked beautiful.
06:46And the blue lighting.
06:47It was very cool.
06:48Very good atmosphere.
06:50Ben Johnson.
06:50How badly do the Lions miss him?
06:54Clearly.
06:55Quite badly.
06:56Now, Drew Petsing is a good offensive coordinator.
06:58He spent some time here with us with the Browns down in Arizona.
07:01And I really don't think their offense was the issue, right?
07:04Like.
07:05Well, their defense was way worse.
07:07The defense is way worse.
07:08But it's just hard when you score, you know, one of your first three possessions and you're
07:12down 21 to seven.
07:13And then it changes the way that you approach the game the rest of the game.
07:16So, that makes it very difficult.
07:17I think their defense, and you go back to the second half against New Orleans, their defense
07:20is a much bigger problem right now than their offense.
07:25Well, is that a, then do I go back, do I go back to the top?
07:29Do I look at Dan Campbell about this, about his assistance?
07:32Or is it just like, hey, like some of this is just the way it goes.
07:35You're going to go through a roster transition.
07:37I just think teams are going to have to start looking at what do you do in situations like
07:41that when you have somebody who is a master motivator, but we know over time, maybe that
07:45doesn't necessarily work.
07:48Do you let a Ben Johnson leave?
07:49Do you let a Liam Cohen leave?
07:51You know, for Todd Bowles, I think these are, I think what those two guys are doing are
07:55going to make organizations question how they handle those situations in the future.
07:58Let me ask you this, and I'm not trying to set you up on anything, I swear to God, okay?
08:02But you're going to get a little sensitive.
08:04We're all going to be a little sensitive because I'm going to mention the Rams.
08:06You know, McVay says, you know, he's hopeful that Aaron Donald's going to be able to play
08:12this week.
08:13You have Miles Garrett, who just officially went on IR.
08:16Are they on notice?
08:17Because I know they were out in Australia, but are they on notice of kind of being a
08:24disappointment this year?
08:26And it's week one.
08:28Is that a, is that a serious question?
08:29Yeah.
08:30Why wouldn't it be?
08:31They went to Australia because it's week one.
08:33Okay.
08:33Well, they gave up a first round pick for a guy who's going to be on IR.
08:36I mean, in five weeks, you can be out of the running in that division.
08:40I think that to me, the more concerning thing that they did is the fact that they didn't
08:44have a single draft pick in this draft class, including a first and a second rounder that
08:49was active on game day.
08:50That's more for a team that's all in.
08:52I think the more so that it is, so that it is a serious question.
08:55So it's a serious question that I don't think they're out of it at all.

09:04What do you make of the league-wide trend?
09:06It's only one week, as you just stressed to Ken in your discussion, which I thought got
09:11a little personal, and it's very sad to see that between the two of you.
09:14Nathan, under center.
09:17It's so funny.
09:18Every other year, it seems like we've got a new trend in the NFL.
09:20Now we're back to under center.
09:23Yeah, under center was the highest rate that it had been in the league in quite some time,
09:28and you're seeing teams adjust to that with some of the blitzes.
09:31That blitz that led to the interception there, that is a blitz that is becoming
09:34prominent around the league to address under center dropbacks.
09:37So it's the cat and mouse game always.
09:40Teams are so fast right now.
09:42Teams are trying to get under center, trying to give that look of run, trying to get heavier
09:44personnel on the field.
09:46And so we'll see.
09:47That's one of the fun back and forth of it.
09:49And now you're seeing, guys, week one, it's hard to kind of judge over the course of the
09:52season what is a trend and what's not.
09:53For example, Todd Bowles last week played 70% middle of the field close against Cincinnati,
09:57which on its head would seem like a strange scenario to be one-on-one on the outside.
10:01Yet, somehow, they did a very good job against T. Higgins and Jamar Chase.
10:05Now, Todd Bowles, historically, is much more balanced middle of the field open and middle
10:08of the field close.
10:09The only thing that he did consistent from 2025 to 2026 in week one was the blitz rate.
10:14So week one is a tough thing to maybe understand.
10:18Maybe people are doing more understand it because they hadn't been on tape yet.
10:21So they wanted to show that this week.
10:22That's what you don't know.
10:24And I think that's what's fun about week two.
10:25Week one is often a liar in this league.
10:26That's what's fun about week two, week three, week four.
10:28We start to see, okay, what are the actual trends around the league and what was a one-off?
10:33Monfrere joining us here on the show.
10:36Nathan, actually, I'm out of questions now.
10:39So I guess that's it.

10:42Well, listen, I just hope the Browns play better.
10:44I hope that they can turn it around and, you know, just put a product as we come home here.
10:49You know, that people are excited to come up there and see.
10:52I know there's a lot of young guys on the team.
10:55I wish you could put it on the ground.
10:56But if you can step down to Boston, very much look real to me.
10:59We've got some talented players.
11:01It's got to kind of put it together for 60 minutes down there in Tampa.
11:04And in an environment that's going to be difficult against a team that is probably feeling very desperate down there.
11:10Now, their division is 0-4, so that gives the Bucs a little bit of, you know, confidence.
11:14But they're going to want to win this game.
11:16There's no doubt about it.
