00:00we head out of the wise art right we make it right call kyle wright hotline and welcome on
00:04browns analyst nathan zaguro joins us right now nathan welcome to the show
00:09good to be with you guys obviously not as fun this week as it has been in the past but
00:14you know it happens and the browns are still here's the good deal i'm gonna start with the
00:19good news and we'll get into everything you know obviously that was not as good from sunday but
00:22the good news is and i think if we all take a step back we would have signed up for
00:25this
00:26when the browns play the ravens on sunday that game will be for sole possession of first place
00:33in the afc north browns win that game at four and two no matter what anybody else does they will
00:38be
00:38in sole possession of first place in the afc north so that's a good place to be you've already beaten
00:42the sealers at home now let's try to take care of business against the ravens but you'll have to do
00:46a heck of a lot better than you did on sunday in new york or new jersey i should say
00:49so it's
00:50interesting nathan uh because now we'll get to the other part uh you know on one hand i just yeah
00:55okay you lost a game there were some flukish things like like the weather the bork is thing
01:00some of the drops that i think happened that were kind of flukish but i mean todd munkin has said
01:05for
01:05you know eight months now he hates bleepy football that was a lot of bleepy football how much of that
01:11was conditions and how much of that was a team that just hasn't cleaned up the things that have
01:16struggled with off and on this season oh i think they cleaned up some of the penalties but the
01:21conditions were poor but we dealt with the conditions worse than the jets did you heard
01:27todd munkin say that we did not handle the conditions as well as the jets did and that's a
01:30that was a big reason for the outcome of this game the other big reason was they were able to
01:36run the
01:36ball effectively with braylon allen and the cleveland browns once again were not able to run the ball
01:41effectively or generate any push up front and they also struggled in pass protection this game deshaun
01:46was running for his life and i'm sure there definitely were times where deshaun probably
01:50could have gotten the ball out a little bit sooner and been able to make a play but at the
01:54same time
01:54at the same time deshaun the plays we did make most of them were second play plays where deshaun
02:00was doing something honestly rather incredible with his legs and then getting out of the pocket making
02:06the throw to isaiah bond making the chunk play so it was the ground game remains frustrating and the
02:12fact that it feels like on every time we have a run blocked up pretty well by the majority
02:16of the people out there that somebody misses a block that a tight end struggles and that's
02:21really been the tight ends have really struggled in the run game that's been a big part of it
02:25austin barber with the boundary sweat was a tough matchup this week but they've got to find a way
02:30to get any kind of consistency you think about the glory days of the cleveland browns and i said glory
02:37is recent 2020 you know we were the one of the best four-minute offensive teams in the league with
02:41that line and nick chubb and kareem hunt just pounding people late in games and it was so
02:47unfortunate to be in a four-minute situation and not take any time off of the clock in fact
02:52lose after the punt snap over that lose a bunch of yards and really set the jets up for for
02:56their
02:56game winner from braylon out hey then i wanted to read on the minka fitzpatrick hit on concepcion
03:02obviously munkin after the game said he thought it was a bang bang play and whether that's him being
03:07courteous i don't know but i'd love your advantage or your vantage point on that did you think it was
03:11a
03:11bang bang play or did you think it was a little dirty i think our history with minka fitzpatrick
03:16for rather obvious reasons clouds not clouds our judgment but it certainly gives us a very strong
03:24bias against him for what he did to nick chubb and it's very fresh knowing that nick chubb just had
03:29to
03:29end his career as a member of the cleveland browns on that drive he ripped casey concepcion's helmet off
03:34of his head by the face mask and drew a 15-yard penalty and then that hit drew a 15
03:38-yard penalty
03:39as well i do think it was a bang bang play i also think he launched himself i think he
03:44he led to
03:46make a big hit and and he did that and i did i like it at all no uh i
03:51think if you were to ask my just
03:52my personal opinion on what i've seen at some point it becomes too much of a coincidence you know so
04:03at some point it feels like it oh it was mika fitzpatrick i get oh it was mika fitzpatrick oh
04:08it was mika fitzpatrick some point there's a reason why that's a trend rather than an isolated incident
04:15all right i there's so many things offensively to get to uh just specific to the offensive line let's
04:20let's kind of zone in on that um i hate sacks is a lot there were more quarterback hits and
04:27pressures
04:28how much of of what you saw from the offensive line was was just their execution versus what was
04:36going on behind them so like deshaun quinshaun and those guys responsibility in the run game in
04:43particular i think that it would you'd be hard pressed to have any running back be having a lot
04:48of success behind what what they're getting provided for them by an offensive i'll give you a stat that
04:54to me kind of sums it up in a way braylon allen yesterday had 92 percent of his yards after
05:02contact quinshaun judkins had 91 percent of his yards after contact braylon allen ran for over 100
05:08yards in the game quinshaun ran for 50 the browns have quinshaun judkins 31 percent of his runs have
05:12gone for one yard or less he's been hit on more than 50 percent of his runs at the line
05:17of scrimmage or
05:18behind the line of scrimmage that's untenable i don't care who you are you know maybe the great
05:24barry sanders who's the whole thing was the unbelievable escapability but that is an untenable
05:30situation for just about any running back to operate and does that then begin to affect perhaps
05:38his vision or his confidence in what's happening in front of him how could it not and so i think
05:43it's
05:43important for everybody involved to get that turned around as for the blitzes we knew the jets were going
05:48to blitz we faced a lot of high blitzing teams they brought pressure from everywhere they often were
05:52able to manipulate it in a way that they got a free rusher i thought deshaun did a great job
05:56on
05:56some of them avoiding plays i thought on others had he thrown to the hot route or gotten it out
06:01quickly immediately there were chances to avoid some of the pressures um but that's really never
06:06who deshaun watson has been you know you think about the aaron rogers the tom brady's the drew
06:10breezes the guys who just say matt stafford right now matt stafford sees those pressures boom the
06:15balls out quickly well deshaun can beat some of the pressures by himself with his legs and then that's
06:19where the huge plays happen and we even saw that yesterday that's the good and the bad of it but
06:25as a whole offensively we were dominated at the line of scrimmage and it's going to be very difficult
06:30to be a consistent offensive football team if that's the case uh can you go to the game that
06:35quincy williams had i mean obviously he was everywhere he was forcing fumbles he was making
06:39big time plays it wasn't just him going against his former team though nathan
06:45quincy williams was a first team all pro we talk a lot about pro bowlers and and that's kind of
06:51gotten lost and i know it's you know now defunct it'll just be an honor but that's kind of gotten
06:55lost in the alternates and this that whatever and you know some people have pro bowls you're like what
06:59they that person was a pro bowler when you're a first team all pro you are the best in the
07:04league
07:04at your position that year period and that is true that's truly the barometer that they use for the
07:09hall of fame much more than pro bowlers they talk about all pros quincy williams was the first
07:13team all pro quincy williams can play quincy williams was benched by the jets last year prior
07:17to the game against the browns believe it or not and i think he wanted to make a statement and
07:21boy
07:22did he 11 tackles three force fumbles we should have recovered two of them but we did recover one
07:27of them he was everywhere and he and carson and are special we have one of the best second levels
07:32and
07:32man it's hard not to imagine what if jok was out there running around with them as well
07:36but this is that is a special starting unit there we do not have much depth or much proven depth
07:42i
07:42should say but man quincy williams can play carson swessinger can play those guys are absolute
07:48dudes i'm glad you mentioned carson swessinger i know he's banged up with the ankle too so
07:52hopefully he can go against baltimore but he made a couple insane plays late in that game
07:56i i feel like i feel like there's more love to be given out for this defense that obviously we
08:03haven't gotten to what are the other names that really stood out to you defensively yesterday
08:09malik collins should get a lot of praise for the way that he played malik collins one and a half
08:14sacks three quarterback hits i mean he's playing like a man possessed since he's come back from that
08:19injury that's been great to see i am he is it's really really cool how he is playing to come
08:26back
08:27and that was a very significant injury and and i think that he even contemplated like do i want to
08:30go through what it's going to require to get back and i'm glad he did but you know two and
08:34a half sacks
08:34the last two weeks he's been everywhere emmanuel mcneil warren is a budding superstar with his
08:39ability to close and the way that he plays on the back end so those are guys that i certainly
08:43would
08:43single i thought grant delpin had a very nice game as well in the run game in the past game
08:46had a nice
08:47pbu um but overall it was a very good defensive effort i mean other than the opening drive then you
08:52wish that they weren't able to just walk down the field but other than opening drive we just we got
08:56we we dominated them i let me ask about the first quarters offensively uh you know you enter yesterday's
09:02game you think you were negative 24 and point differential and then you you lost four in the
09:06point differential yesterday uh as well what do you think's happening with the slower starts for
09:10this browns offense it's a good question and it's one of those things that you want to get figured out
09:16you know we we've had as i said glimpses i've been saying this every week we have glimpses the second
09:20half in tampa we have the fourth quarter in carolina against carolina the fourth quarter or the second
09:26quarter against pittsburgh we have these glimpses of what it can be the conditions were terrible in this
09:30game but yeah you've got to start faster that would be a great thing we have not really seen
09:34this team start fast and you know those are the scripted plays that's what you think that you've
09:38got dialed in there and you know this week the very first play of the game was blown up before
09:43it even
09:43got started that was a play where deshaun's got to keep it but i think after last week and tj
09:48watt
09:48forcing it out in that read option bailey goes unblocked he's there before the mesh point even happens
09:53and he's like you know let me just give it and hopefully maybe quenchon can run away from him but
09:56but he couldn't and tough situation all right nathan so i obviously we've talked a lot about
10:02what happened on the field on sunday just big picture harold fanon jr has just not gotten the
10:07touches that i think somebody like myself who thought maybe we'd get a thousand yard receiving
10:13season out of him still time by the way but you know how much or what's going kind of on
10:18with
10:18harold fanon jr's role within the offense and why we just kind of haven't seen the same production out
10:23of him so far through the first five years five games as we might have hoped yeah i think at
10:29times
10:29he he's been in as a blocker against some of these blitzes and and we just haven't done a good
10:32job
10:33sustaining drives and running a lot of offensive plays you know i mean what our leading receiver
10:37had three catches isaiah bond last game and obviously had a drop that would have been massive
10:42for the cleveland brown said he'd been able to make it a couple of drops honestly that were pretty big
10:45but showed he's a big playability harold fanon is an excellent player he had three touchdowns the two
10:50games prior to this one so it's not like he is a forgot man but the browns really haven't been
10:54able
10:54to get him going at that level because they they really just haven't been able to sustain drives
10:59and there are periods where we go three and out three and out and that happens in every game and
11:03that's one thing you have to clean up and hopefully you can get harold fanon more involved and part of
11:06it is i think harold fanon's got to do a little bit better job in the run game not to
11:10earn opportunities
11:11he's not on this team because of his run block he wasn't asked to do that at all in college
11:15but that's kind of the life of a tight end right now in the nfl and it kind of goes
11:19hand in hand
11:19but i do think that you'll get harold fanon more involved as this season goes on you have to
11:24nathan great stuff as always buddy hopefully next monday we're talking about first place
11:28browns and a win over the ravens uh but you know this this week did happen so hopefully that leads
11:35to next week right yes let's go if you have as i said opportunity to be four and two and
11:43atop the
11:43afc north and sole possession of first place after six weeks defend the home field beat the
11:47baltimore ravens it's still right there for this cleveland browns team but they're gonna have to
11:50play a lot better all right buddy appreciate you nathan zagura there browns analyst on the wise heart
