00:00We are approaching history in the Atlantic. During the satellite era, the record for the last
00:05occurrence of the first hurricane was September 11th. That happened in 2002 and 2013. But if you
00:11look at the records prior to the satellite era, so prior to the middle 60s, the record for the
00:18last occurrence of the first hurricane was September 21st, 1941. It says Hurricane 2,
00:24but the way they did that back in those days, Storm 1 and Storm 2. Storm 1 was not a
00:29hurricane
00:31until later in September. So the second storm of the season was a hurricane, and that was the
00:37latest occurrence of the first hurricane. Now, we have two areas we're watching this week.
00:42The one that we're most likely to see a named storm, which would be the sixth named storm,
00:48would be this area circled south and east of Bermuda. We have a moderate risk for development
00:53with that. This does have a better than 50-50 chance of becoming a storm. Could it become a
00:58hurricane? It could. It could break the streak. It's a lower chance, but it is possible.
01:04The other area to keep an eye on will be in the Gulf later this week, although right now
01:09we think this has only a very low chance of becoming a storm.
