00:00We are on the cusp of history in the Atlantic Basin for this hurricane season.
00:05We have not had a hurricane yet.
00:07Well, the latest occurrence of the first hurricane since the satellite era is September 11th.
00:14That was set twice in 2002 and 2013.
00:18And we're not expecting a hurricane this week.
00:21What does history tell us about early September?
00:24Well, history tells us that the heart of the hurricane season is right now.
00:29In fact, the hurricane season peaks tomorrow, September 10th.
00:33That's where we typically see the most storms and the most hurricanes.
00:37But we are not forecasting a hurricane at all this week.
00:42The reasons?
00:44Two.
00:44Dry air, number one.
00:46Look at all the dry air in what we call the MDR, the main development region between Africa and the
00:52islands.
00:52And in addition to the dry air, strong wind shear, which rips apart tropical waves.
00:59Look at all of the dark purple.
01:01So we are not anticipating any hurricanes this week.
01:05And in fact, through mid-September, don't look for much of anything to develop in that main development region.
01:12We have to keep an eye out for the Gulf and the Southwest Atlantic.
01:15But through this week, it remains hurricane-free.
